Zeenat Aman opens up about feeling intimidated by Rajesh Khanna: "I mugged up all my lines so that...”

In a candid interview with Film Companion, Zeenat revealed that she was "totally intimidated" by Khanna when she started her career. Despite her nerves, she made sure to be well-prepared, memorizing her lines meticulously to avoid any mistakes on set.

Recalling her first scenes with Rajesh Khanna, Zeenat shared how she coped with her intimidation. "I mugged up all my lines so that I wouldn’t flub a single thing," she said. Despite her fears, she never showed them, approaching Khanna with professionalism and confidence. "I went to him and I performed," she recounted. Reflecting on her experience, she noted, "When I went back to my makeup room, I was like, ‘Wow. I just gave a shot with a superstar.’ I think that’s the right attitude to have.”

A collaborative approach to acting

Zeenat also discussed her collaborative approach to acting, emphasizing the importance of working closely with co-actors and directors. During the interview, she praised her co-star Shabana Azmi, calling her the "queen of performance." Zeenat expressed her admiration for Shabana's ability to elevate any given material, describing the experience of watching her work as "delightful."
