Sonakshi Sinha opens up about her intimate wedding with Zaheer Iqbal: 'We wanted it simple and emotional"

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal's simple yet emotional wedding at the former's house was the talk of the town. Sonakshi recently spoke openly about her wedding and explained why she chose to keep it small and uncomplicated.

Sonakshi told Bollywood Bubble that she and Zaheer always intended to keep their wedding intimate. She said, “We had each other and this is something that we wanted to do for so long and we were very clear how we wanted it to be. We wanted it to be small and intimate.”

Sonakshi and Zaheer's reception was held in Mumbai's iconic restaurant Bastian, where numerous film industry stars, including Salman Khan, Rekha, and Anil Kapoor, danced their hearts out. During the conversation, the Lootera star confessed that she has always wanted her reception to be a joyful affair. She said, “We also wanted our reception to be one big party where everybody just has fun. I didn’t want to take any stress, so my house was an open house. Everybody was coming and going while I was getting my hair and makeup done. Friends are chilling in the wardrobe, decor is going on, the food is being set up. So, it was literally like an open house and that’s how I wanted my D-Day to be like. It felt so homely and beautiful. It was perfect.”

Sonakshi Sinha donned her mother's old Chikankari saree to her wedding and a vivid red Varanasi silk brocade sari for the reception. Her decision not to wear an expensive dress was to guarantee that she was comfortable and could dance the most at her wedding. “I dressed simply because I wanted to be comfortable and I wanted to dance the most at my wedding, which I did,” she said.

Sonakshi and Zaheer married on June 23, capping off a seven-year relationship. The couple is said to have met at Salman Khan's celebration. This first meeting is claimed to have generated a friendship that eventually blossomed into a romantic partnership. Their first professional collaboration was in the 2022 Netflix feature Double XL, which also stars Huma Qureshi.
