EXCLUSIVE: Vijay Deverakonda confesses his love for hip hop during the Breezer Vivid Shuffle campaign; says, “I'm tripping on the song ‘Jalala’ and it's on loop”

The massive fan following of Vijay Deverakonda definitely left everyone surprised when the actor featured in Liger and went on to a city tour for promotions. While we have seen many of his talents, did you know that the actor a lot into music, especially hip hop music. Vijay is the brand ambassador of Breezer Vivid Shuffle and in a recent exclusive interaction with Bollywood Hungama, the South superstar spoke about what music means to him and his love and fondness for hip hop.

Speaking about how he likes to listen to music in his free time, Vijay said, “When I'm not shooting I'm working on for like three hours a day and those three hours I need music to motivate me. It helps me feel good and sometimes you resonate with the philosophy of the song. When I'm in my caravan when I'm at shoot, sometimes I listen to it. Music is beautiful, music is important.” Further speaking about hip hop he added, “It is the genre that I listen to the most. And if you go to my playlists, nine out of 10 songs will be from this genre. It’s the kind of music where you're drawn to a certain width and style of it. You have to listen to it first.”

Recalling how he got his hands on this kind of music, Vijay continued, “I don't remember if I heard it from friends, or I heard it on TV. I know that it happened around the age of 17-18 (years old). Because before that, I was in a boarding school where we didn't have access to the world as much we have now, it was like a very strict religious school. So when I moved back to Hyderabad, from the boarding school, I think I got exposed to hip hop. It was Eminem and Dr. Dre in those days and I just took to their style of music.”

Giving us a glimpse of his Hip Hop playlist, Vijay added, “I enjoy Black Eyed Peas. Eminem, Kanye. Travis Scott. Recently, a lot of Indian artists have been making their way into in to my playlist. The latest song that I'm tripping on a lot is a song called ‘Jalala’. It's on loop.” He also discussed how the influence of hip hop is present everywhere from clothes to dance. He shared, “Hip hop is freeing. You can express yourself in any way. In terms of fashion, before hip hop, you couldn't write stuff on clothes. There was never a culture of expressing yourself through text and graffiti on clothes or a formal shirt or suit. But once hip hop came into the scene, people started expressing their feelings through the clothes, colors, speech and even through bars and drawings. So it's a creative world where they express themselves freely and I'm attracted to it.”

The actor not only loves the music but also expressed his fondness towards the dance form. “I enjoy watching it a lot. I can spend hours watching it. I enjoy doing it also a little bit,” he said.

Speaking about his recent block party that he attended in Hyderabad, Vijay revealed that it was BVS aka Breezer Vivid Shuffle’s one of the first ground events after the pandemic. He said, “The last two years BVs was digital. And this is the first year we went ground. But it was time and I was excited about. And this time we could see everything happening but personally. So it was the first big on ground event because till then we were mostly digital, the last couple of seasons. I loved soaking in the atmosphere of the hip hop festival and seeing all the talent and meeting all the fans.”

Talking about how he loved his association with BVS, Vijay added, “I enjoy it. I'm happy with the Association. And that's why we are in two years three. And I look forward to a lot more. It's easy Association. It's a nice match.” Further elaborating on the campaign, Vijay explained, “We've already shot the majority of the marketing campaign and I had a lot of fun. It's always fun shooting the marketing campaign of Breezer.”

In the concluding statement, Vijay dedicated an important message to hip hop fans saying, “To express yourself confidently and, and put yourself in everything. We can very easily go into a sort of imitation. But I think the guys who stick the guys who you'll find a natural magnetic attraction towards are the ones who are true to everything. There's something very original about them. So be confident and just do original.”
