EXCLUSIVE: Priyanka Chopra Jonas recalls first visit to the US; reveals she “couldn't afford double digits at that time”
For the launch of her new haircare line Anomaly in India, Priyanka Chopra Jonas collaborated with Indian beauty e-commerce business Nykaa. The association aims to revolutionise India's hair care industry with a range of gender-neutral, vegan, and innovative products. In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Priyanka Chopra discussed her struggle of finding affordable haircare products when she moved to the United States of America while recalling that she was not able to afford double-digit shampoo when she was a schoolgirl.
While talking about Anomaly, PeeCee asserted, “It's at an affordable price with superior formulas that you would have what you're paying for to buy Anomaly and the formula and the experience of it, you would have paid at least four times to be able to get that with another brand. And that was the idea was to democratise beauty to everyone who can afford it.”
The ‘Desi Girl’ further added, “When I first went to the States, I would go into retail stores. All the good stuff was in double digits. I couldn't afford double digits at that time in school. And then I sat in the chairs of the most incredible hair and makeup artists in the world who use the most luxurious products ever on my hair. So my standards were really high.”
Explaining how it inspired her in conceptualising her brand, the Bajirao Mastani actress said, “So when I started thinking about creating a brand, I couldn't lower that standard. So when I spoke to Mesa about wanting to create a brand, it was always supposed to be under $10. The best formula is under $10. And that's what we're doing here is best formulas under 1000 rupees.”
Coming on her professional front, the 40-year-old actress has a bunch of projects in her kitty, including a Bollywood film, titled Jee Le Zara, co-starring Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt.
