Bollywood Hungama has been at the forefront to report about the reopening of cinemas in Kashmir. The first multiplex in the beautiful state was opened on September 20, 2022. Two days earlier, on September 18, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated Multipurpose Cinema Halls, located in Pulwama and Shopian districts. RRR (2022) was the first film shown in Kashmir in these theatres and also the first film to be screened in Kashmir in three decades. Last week, we also reported on how Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (2023) will be the first film to be screened at the newly opened theatres in Kashmir’s Baramulla and Handwara.

And now, Kashmir theatres are back in the news, thanks to Oppenheimer. The Christopher Nolan directorial is done beyond expectations across the country, and Inox Srinagar is no exception. It emerged as the biggest Hollywood opener and could possibly emerge as the highest Hollywood grosser in the state, beating other recent Hollywood biggies like Fast X (2023), John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023), Avatar: The Way Of Water (2022) etc.

Social media has been of the opinion that Oppenheimer is the first Hollywood film to get sold out in Inox Srinagar. However, Vikas Dhar, clarified, “Oppenheimer is the first Hollywood film to get such a massive response in our theatre. Avatar: The Way Of Water got sold out and so did a couple of other films. But to have such a sustained response and house full shows for three days is a first. For Avatar: The Way Of Water, we got a few enquiries before it was out. However, for Oppenheimer, we began to be flooded with enquiries four weeks before its release. The moviegoers asked us to release the film in our theatre on the same day as the rest of India.”

Looking at the response to Oppenheimer, exhibition sources feel that it won’t be a surprise if it manages to cross the collections of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan in Inox Srinagar or come close to it.

Vikas Dhar reacted to these claims, “I don’t think so. I’ll be really surprised if it happens. Shah Rukh Khan’s fan following here is unparalleled. We are already getting enquiries for his next film, Jawan. Some of the comments we have got recently are, ‘I will come and see Oppenheimer but I am actually waiting for Jawan’!”

In Inox Srinagar, Oppenheimer is playing four shows a day in the English version and one show is of the dubbed Hindi version. Vikas Dhar continued, “Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy have such a hardcore fan following here. It is a lesson for us that even in Kashmir, people are following these artists. Our audiences have acquired an international taste. It’s quite fascinating.”

Meanwhile, Oppenheimer has collected nearly Rs. 30 crores in two days in India and has a shot at crossing the Rs. 100 crores mark.

On the work front, while Tiger Shroff is gearing up for the dystopian action drama Ganapath Part 1 and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Disha Patani has the futuristic sci-fi drama Kalki 2898 AD, Yodha as well as the South project Kanguva in the pipeline.

The 14th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) is all set to kick off from August 11 to 20. Apart from the many movies that would be screened at the festival, the other attraction that the festival offers is the presence of a number of Indian film celebrities. Like previous editions, this time also a list of Bollywood celebrities would be gracing the occasion.

Interestingly, during the opening of the IFFM, filmmaker Karan Johar and star actor Kartik Aaryan would be present. Not just that, the two would also be sharing the stage! This is going to be a big moment that is sure to get heads turned.

For the unversed, there was an alleged fallout between Karan and Kartik in 2021 over the making of Dostana 2, the second film in the franchise. Kartik was cast in the film but he walked out of the project after starting it off. Hence, there were reports of a major fallout between the two. However, neither Karan nor Kartik confirmed the same.

In June last year, Karan and Kartik were spotted sharing the same table at an awards function. It will be interesting to see if there will be any interaction between the two when they share the stage together at the 14th IFFM.

The other guests that are expected to grace the festival include, Shabana Azmi, Mrunal Thakur, Rana Daggubati, Anurag Kashyap, R Balki, Malaika Arora, Saiyami Kher, Sunny Leone, among others.

Balaji Motion Pictures of Ektaa R Kapoor is gearing up for the release of the much-awaited sequel, Dream Girl 2, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday in the lead. After teasing the fans and the audiences with voiceover teasers featuring different stars, the makers have released another fun teaser where Ayushmann's character, Pooja, is seen interacting with Ranveer Singh as Rocky. With the release date of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani nearing, it seems that the producers Ektaa and Karan Johar acted as cheer leaders for each other recently.

As a part of the celebrating the arrival of both films, producers Ektaa R Kapoor and Karan Johar have now gotten involved in a fun banter where they are also seen lauding each other's upcoming prominent theatrical releases, Dream Girl 2 and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, respectively. Dream Girl 2 is produced by Ektaa R Kapoor under her production house Balaji Motion Pictures and features an ensemble cast of Ayushmann Khurrana, Ananya Panday, Abhishek Banerjee, Manjot Singh, Paresh Rawal, and Annu Kapoor. The much-awaited sequel is ready to hit the big screen on August 25, 2023.

On the other hand, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani marks the return of the Gully Boy couple Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt on the big screen after four years. The film also stars Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, and Jaya Bachchan in pivotal roles. It is slated for release on July 28.

Although Ranbir Kapoor recently was missing from the Manish Malhotra show where Alia Bhatt walked the ramp as a part of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani promotions, it seems that the actor took some time off to chill with his friends. Talking about Oppenheimer, the film is an autobiographical encounter of Robert Oppenheimer essayed by Cillian Murphy while it also stars Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr., playing pivotal role. The film is set against the backdrop of World War II and revolves around Oppenheimer being appointed as a physicist in a secret Manhattan Project that gave rise to the invention of the nuclear weapons.

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh walked the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra on Thursday night in Mumbai. At the bridal couture show, the actor was joined by his Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani co-star Alia Bhatt. Billed as a new era of love, the film is helmed by Karan Johar who was also present in the audience.

To support her husband, Deepika Padukone attended the event in a gorgeous white saree with a mirror work blouse. She was seated next to her mother-in-law Anju Bhavnani. While walking the ramp, Ranveer stopped midway to go and kiss his wife. He also touched his mother's feet and even gave a kiss to Karan Johar.

Viacom18 Studios and Dharma Productions present A Dharma Productions film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, and Apoorva Mehta is all set to hit the big screen on 28th July 2023.

Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh will reportedly reunite with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the next historical drama Baiju Bawra. He has also signed Don 3, taking the baton from Shah Rukh Khan who played the role in two movies after Amitabh Bachchan played the same role in the 80s.

She is all about action – ready to go and kill Thanos on her own without their help. An especially big moment that was a standout leading up to the release of Endgame is her exchange with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. He calls his hammer just shy of her face and she doesn’t even blink. The scene ends with the God of Thunder putting his stamp of approval on her, saying “I like this one.” ‘EPIC’!

Captain Marvel Greets Peter Parker During The Endgame Battle Marvel Studios’ most ambitious sequence yet is in Avengers: Endgame, where the final battle forces audiences to sit on their seats with bated breaths. One edgy scene for Captain Marvel comes right after Tom Holland’s Spider-Man swings and flies across the battlefield to keep the Infinity Gauntlet safe from Thanos’ reach. A fun moment is when Captain Marvel approaches the scared webslinger and calmly says “Hey, Peter Parker” before assembling with all the female Avengers in an epic team-up moment.

Captain Marvel Forces Ronan And His Army To Retreat Right before her confrontation with Yon-Rogg, Captain Marvel flies into space and debuts her mohawk helmet, all while giving off a glow throughout her body and defeats a fleet of Kree ships Ronan Accuser was about to set off next to Earth. The scene is almost something out of Star Wars, except the resistance is a singular Avenger as she blasts their ships into dust in just minutes. This scene really shows off the scope of Captain Marvel’s powers and proves to fans how valuable of an asset she is to the Avengers’ fight against Thanos.

Captain Marvel will next be seen in MCU’s The Marvels alongside Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau. The film stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon in pivotal roles. Directed by Nia DaCosta, and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios India's The Marvels hits Indian theatres this Diwali, on November 10 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Gadar (2001) is one of the biggest hits of Indian cinema and hence, a lot is expected from Gadar 2. The excitement over the re-release of Gadar on June 9 made it clear that even after 22 years, the film is close to the hearts of the people and that the sequel can open with a bang. Until now, the makers released the teaser of Gadar 2, which was incidentally attached to the prints of Gadar. This was followed by the rearranged version of the song ‘Udd Ja Kaale Kaava’ followed by the soulful number ‘Khairiyat’. Meanwhile, fans have been eagerly asking for the trailer for a long time.

Bollywood Hungama has got an update about when the much-awaited Gadar 2 trailer will be out. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Exactly a week later, that is, on Thursday, July 27, the trailer will be launched. The makers feel that releasing it 15 days before the film’s release will work well and further enhance the hype of the highly awaited sequel.”

When asked if there’s going to be a trailer launch, the source replied, “The makers are toying with the idea but nothing is concrete yet. A clear idea will emerge in a few days. Nevertheless, the makers have come up with an interesting promotional plan. The actors and director Anil Sharma are expected to ensure that Gadar 2 creates enough noise so that awareness is spread far and wide about its release on August 11.”

Just like Gadar, Gadar 2 also stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma. Directed by Anil Sharma, it is produced by Zee Studios and Anil Sharma Productions.

Meanwhile, the team of the film are also expected to release a few more songs before Gadar 2 hits the theatres. Anil Sharma said in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama that besides ‘Udd Ja Kaale Kaava’, the dance number ‘Main Nikla Gaddi Leke’ will also have a reimagined version in the sequel. At a press conference involving Anil, music director Mithoon and singer Udit Narayan, it was announced that the makers will soon organize a musical concert where Udit Narayan, Arijit Singh and other singers will sing the songs of Gadar 2 live.

Ever since the news of Rohit Roy participating in Khatron Ke Khiladi 13 was broken, he has been constantly in the headlines. Recently, while speaking about his experience on the show, Rohit candidly revealed that her daughter Kiara Roy was approached for The Archies, directed by Zoya Akhtar. 

In an interview with Indian Express, Rohit said, “About a year and a half back, I was at a fashion event hosted by Shabana Azmi. There was a great amount of media and paps and of course many stars. Later, Excel called me for The Archies. I told them that she is studying at Brown University but I will check.”

He further recalled, “I did tell her but she couldn’t give it a thought given the space she is in, where competition is intense. I have told her that once you finish your education and want to give it a thought, we would wholly support you.”

Given that he is also a writer and director, Rohit was asked if he is planning to launch her daughter. While saying no, he elaborated, “I think it’s one of the biggest mistakes of filmmakers to direct their own kids. It’s the worst thing. I may produce for her but not direct her. The point also remains that she would want to be directed by Karan Johar more than me (laughs).”

He added, “But I will never helm her first film as I would not be able to push the envelope. It would be best if she’s directed by someone who works with her only as a creative collaborator. I think filmmakers should never launch their kids.”

In an exciting development, Karan Johar is set to turn his hit film franchise Student of the Year into a web series. The series, which will be produced by Dharmatic Entertainment and streamed on Disney+Hotstar, will launch Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor's daughter, Shanaya Kapoor, according to a report by Pinkvilla. 

This is not the first time that Karan Johar is launching a new talent with the Student of the Year franchise. The first film in the franchise, which was released in 2012, introduced Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra to the world. The second film, which was released in 2019, launched Ananya Pandey and Tara Sutaria.

With Student of the Year 3, Karan Johar is looking to take the franchise to the next level. The series is currently in the writing stage and is scheduled to go on floors in the last quarter of this year. The director for the show is expected to be finalised within a month. However, Karan has not made any official announcement to confirm the same. 

For the unversed, Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, has been waiting for her big break for a while now. She was initially set to make her debut with Karan Johar's film Bedhadak, but the project was shelved due to script issues.

Having said that, it is worth mentioning here that Shanaya is all set to make her acting debut with Mohanlal’s recently announced Pan-India epic action entertainer, Vrushabha.

Filmmaker Kedar Shinde and Jio Studios’ multi-starrer Marathi movie Baipan Bhari Deva is not only doing well at the box office but also breaking records. However, before starting the film, there was a time when Shinde wasn’t finding a producer.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker revealed, “For around nine months, I didn’t get a producer for this film. You might not believe this. I had cried for several nights. Whoever used to read the script would say, ‘Who will go (to the theatres) to watch six women, Kedar?’ I used to try to tell them that there is fun in the story; do listen. But then everything fell into place, and we got a producer. The biggest triumph for the film was that Jio Studios took it. Nikhil Sane placed this film at a high level.”

Although Baipan Bhari Deva has achieved such glory, Shinde said that he wasn’t thinking about the end results. “We only do our work without thinking about the expectations,” he said. “It has already been written in the Gita, ‘Karam karo, phal ki apeksha mat karo.’ I personally worship Swami Samarth. All the things he has given me is because of my hard work. I did plays, television shows and movies. I have presented some important works in front of the audience, to which they have given an excellent response.”

The team, however, had to wait long for the film to release after it was shot back in 2020. “It was a tough period,” said Shinde. “But I used to feel that we have done well. At that time, I didn’t know what Swami Samarth’s wish was. This was His wish. Sometimes when things don’t go as per your wishes, you should leave everything to God.”

Baipan Bhari Deva has six actresses of different age groups – Rohini Hattangadi, Vandana Gupte, Sukanya Kulkarni Mone, Suchitra Bandekar, Shilpa Navalkar and Deepa Parab. One would assume that getting all six actresses on board would be a challenge, but Shinde says that wasn’t the case at all.

“After our writer Vaishali Naik narrated the story to me, the six actress I thought of were exactly these six,” he said. “It wasn’t the case of me approaching another actress after I didn’t get the one I wanted in a particular role. It was a tailor-made role for each of them. If you win over 50 % in the casting, the remaining journey becomes easy. But in my case, I won 100% in the casting. All of them are good actresses, so they will act well. They have that much sense.”

The challenge for Shinde, however, was to bring all six actresses together on the set from the make-up room. “When two women are in each other’s company, you know how much they talk. In this case, there were going to be six, who would be chatting a lot in the make-up room. The difficult task of bringing all of them on the set was completed by my daughter Sana Shinde, who was the assistant. I wouldn’t have been able to do the film in this time without her,” he said.

Shinde revealed that Naik got the story idea from the situation of her mother who retired from work and had one regret that she never got to do manglagaur, the dance form explored in the movie.

Shinde has been a part of the Marathi industry for over two decades. Sharing his take on the state of Marathi cinema currently, he said, “Marathi cinema isn’t lagging behind. The problem is too much competition from Hindi, south, Hollywood, Punjabi, Gujarati, etc. Films of all languages release in Maharashtra, especially Mumbai. And if 4-5 Marathi films are lined up for release in the same week, it becomes a bigger problem. At the end of the day, the audience is very smart. They know what to see. My film Maharashtra Shaheer ran for a short duration as it couldn’t get theatres. But that was the fate of that film. For Baipan Bhari Deva, we got everything.”

Recently, Bollywood Hungama did a story on whether Marathi films aren’t getting many theatres, which is regularly alleged by people from the industry. Sharing his take on the issue, Shinde said, “What to say about it after Baipan Bhari Deva? We are getting 21 shows (in one multiplex). The screens are directly proportional to the audience. If there is audience, we will get everything. The need of the hour is to think on how to bring the audience to the theatres.”

Shinde has made plays, TV shows and movies. Is OTT next? He said, “I have never approached anyone for work. Till now, I have always found work through my previous works. I am interested in doing an OTT show, but I haven’t found a suitable opportunity. If I like what I am offered, I will surely do it. I also want to do Hindi films, but I am not offered anything. I had done a Hindi film Toh Baat Pakki with Sharman Joshi and Tabu in 2008, but it didn’t quite do well. In Hindi, if your first film doesn’t do well, it becomes difficult.”

As per latest updates, Baipan Bhari Deva has reached Rs. 50 crores at the box office in less than 20 days, which is a phenomenal achievement.

Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Bawaal will have its global launch on July 21 on Prime Video. The cast along with the producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Nitesh Tiwari hosted a star-studded blue carpet celebrity screening on Tuesday. While the film arrives in two days, Japan has requested the makers to dub the movie in the local language as it has a connection to World War 2.

As reported by Pinkvilla, a source said, “The requests have come in from the Japanese audience. They have expressed their interest to dub it in the local language as due to the World War 2 connection, the film has the potential to resonate with the audience in Japan. There are conversations in Japan taking Bawaal as the subject matter of the film touches upon the themes and events surrounding World War 2, which also forms a part of Japan’s history.”

At the trailer, Nitesh Tiwari had spoken about the connection and said “World War II is humongous. There’s so much that had happened and you can’t take everything. You’ve to pick and choose things which would probably impact the journey of the characters and that’s precisely why it [World War II as a backdrop] has been taken. Hitler also happens to be a part of it and you can’t not have him in World War 2.”

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, and starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, Bawaal is a timeless love story by Sajid Nadiadwala’s production banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment in collaboration with Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari’s Earthsky Pictures. Bawaal will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in India and across 200 countries and territories worldwide on 21st of July. In a big relief to Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty, the Supreme Court was informed by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) that it is not challenging the bail granted to the actress in the drugs case. The drugs case was registered against Rhea Chakraborty after the untimely death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. It was alleged that the actress was part of a ‘drug dealers’ syndicate who facilitated the purchase of drugs for Rajput. The actress was arrested on September 8, 2020, by NDPS and received bail on October 4, 2020.

As reported by Live Law India, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, who appeared for the NCB, told Justices AS Bopanna and MM Sundresh the grant of the bail is not being challenged. The bench stated in their order, “At this stage the challenge to impugned order may not be required. However, the question of law would be kept open. This judgment of HC would not be taken as a precedent for any other case.”

At the time in 2021, the High Court bench of Justice SV Kotwal said, “She is not part of drug dealers. She has not forwarded the drugs allegedly procured by her to somebody else to earn monetary or other benefits.” The bench observed that the actress was not guilty of any punishable offence under Section 27A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act). The actress is joining the YRF Spy Universe with a special female-led Spy Film joining super agents like Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and Shah Rukh Khan. And now, Bollywood Hungama has another exclusive scoop on the YRF Spy Universe.

Alia Bhatt will be joined by YRF's homegrown talent, Sharvari, in the female-led spy film and the shooting will begin by the middle of 2024. "Sharvari impressed everyone with her performance in Bunty Aur Babli 2 but unfortunately, the film didn't do well at the box office. However, Aditya Chopra has identified the hidden talent of Sharvari and is betting big on her to be the next big star of the Hindi Film Industry, He will be reintroducing Sharvari in an action-packed avatar as a spy in the YRF Spy Universe. She will be joining Alia Bhatt in the female-led Spy Film of YRF," a source close to the development told Bollywood Hungama.

The yet-untitled film will be the 8th film of the YRF Spy Universe after Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3, War 2, and Tiger vs Pathaan. It will go on floors next year and the director's name has been kept under wraps for now. According to sources, Aditya Chopra is planning to mount this female spy film as big as any other in the franchise and will be making a statement about gender equality that his studio follows.

The film would mark the first collaboration between Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. Both the actors will slip into the prep mode soon and the prep would also include some combined workshops for them. The yet untitled film will be led by Alia Bhatt as a super spy, whereas the character track of Sharvari has been kept under wraps for now. "Sharvari plays a key role with Alia Bhatt on the mission," the source further told Bollywood Hungama.

The film will be produced by Yash Raj Films.

During an interview with Film Companion, Kiara Advani was asked if she would audition for a role which isn’t a norm for many mainstream actors in the industry. Kiara said, “Yes, absolutely. In fact, I also auditioned for Laal Singh Chaddha. At that time, I didn't know it was for Laal Singh Chaddha. I really don't want to see that audition though. I really must have been terrible. It was many many years ago.”

Kiara continued, “Casting is such an important part of filmmaking. The right cast can add so much value. It's not about who's a better actor. It's about who's better suited for the part. It's always teamwork and it's so important to get the right cast for a film. It's absolutely wonderful to audition, great to know if you are suited for the part.”

Several films have been shot in the beautiful locales of Kashmir for several decades. However, after the rise of militancy in 1990, theatres in the state were shut down. Things improved last year after Inox opened the first-ever multiplex in Srinagar on September 20. Around the same time, on September 18, 2022, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated Multipurpose Cinema Halls, located in Pulwama and Shopian districts. A company called Jadooz is managing these halls.

Yesterday, on July 14, Manoj Sinha similarly inaugurated two more Multipurpose Cinema Halls, one in Baramulla and one at Handwara. Just like the Pulwama and Shopian theatres, these newly opened theatres will also be run by Jadooz and will have a cafe, conference and seminar facilities. According to reports, both the theatres are 100-seaters.

It has also come to light that Pathaan (2023), starring Shah Rukh Khan, will be the first film to play in these two new theatres.

The videos of Manoj Sinha inaugurating the Baramulla theatre are out. This theatre has been opened in what was once the Sherwani Community Hall. The poster of Pathaan can be seen in the videos and pictures of the theatre's inauguration. Along with Pathaan, posters of Shah Rukh Khan’s next film, Jawan, and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 can also be seen, which indicates that these two much-awaited films will also play in the cinema halls.

Besides Shah Rukh Khan, Pathaan also starred Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. It is the biggest Bollywood grosser of all time, collecting more than Rs. 500 crores at the domestic box office and nearly Rs. 1000 crores worldwide.

The government’s idea behind opening cinema halls in Kashmir is to expand entertainment options in the state and send a message of normalcy after the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019.

Last year, S S Rajamouli’s RRR (2022) became the first film to get a screening in Kashmir after nearly three decades, in the theatres of Pulwama and Shopian. This was followed by Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), which was played on the day Inox Srinagar was inaugurated.

Bawaal promotions are on in full swing. The cast Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor along with director Nitesh Tiwari recently sat down with Bollywood Hungama to talk about the film taking the digital route, the importance of OTT platforms and their film as a whole. Varun Dhawan mentioned how he ended up re-watching Aamir Khan starrer Dangal and kind of scared himself about the transformation he had to undergo.

Varun Dhawan said, “When I got on board eventually for Bawaal, I went back and I put on Dangal. I saw what Aamir sir has done. I scared myself and then I would keep calling sir (Nitesh Tiwari) and ask, ‘What do I do?’ He would be like ‘Ajju is little bigger and he should have muscles.’ He is a teacher but he's so much into his image that he carries that persona. So I really got into lifting heavy weights and all that time and I would keep sending him pictures till he said okay.”

He added, “But the thing was, I had psyched myself so much because like, I'd seen the transformation which Aamir sir did was wonderful. So I just kind of put that pressure on myself that I had to do it. You know, I don't know whether he was expecting.”

Then Nitesh Tiwari said, “I had to tell him at one point of time that this is good enough, because he's not really a bodybuilder. He just makes muscles just so that he can wear tight shirts, and impress people and that just shows up.”

The cast Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor along with director Nitesh Tiwari recently sat down with Bollywood Hungama to talk about the film taking the digital route, the importance of OTT platforms and their film as a whole. Varun Dhawan mentioned how the industry shoves box office numbers in everyone’s faces and that it has become a part of perception building.

The conversation began around how Bawaal was made for the big screen and eventually ended on the digital platform. Eventually when talking about movies in theatres vs released digitally, Varun said that all that mattered was the audience’s response. However, he admitted that the industry loves to throw box office numbers instead of wondering if the movie was appreciated or not. He said, “Back in the day, we would enjoy simply watching films. At that time, the numbers for such a great, iconic, cult classic like Andaz Apna Apna weren’t great. Now when you remember it, you're like wow. But which I feel is our fault only as an industry is that today we are shoving numbers in everyone's faces. We all are doing, even I'm doing it. I'm not saying I'm holier than thou but I'm just saying the shoving of numbers has become so much for perception, for image. We are doing that a lot that the discussion of good and bad is becoming secondary.”

Yami Gautam is heartbroken amid the ongoing floods that has greatly affected the state of Himachal Pradesh where she hails from. The actress is disheartened and says that the balance between nature and development is important.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Yami said, “It’s really unfortunate, people lost their lives. That’s not how you ever imagined... it’s really painful. There is no amount of words that can heal that wound. But just so that it doesn’t happen to someone else at this scale, I hope necessary steps are taken.”

She added, “It is disheartening to watch those videos of the situation due to the rains, and some I actually couldn’t believe are real. But people there must be prepared now, to avoid it in the future. This is what nature is telling us, it is a red alert. It’s a sign that something needs to be done at various levels, and that we all are equally responsible.”

When asked about her family and friends who live in Himachal Pradesh and how they are grappling with the situation amid the floods, she said, “They are away from the river belt. Whatever I am talking about is nothing people aren’t aware of already. The climate change is the first and foremost reason for this, the temperatures have been changing, and there’s more moisture, so more rainfall. Now there are multi storey buildings on the river bank to cater to tourism too. There are many reasons that have gone into making it what it is right now. Nature gave us something beautiful, we have to maintain its sanctity and serenity, what you always associate Himachal with. No matter how many rules and regulations are made, but it’s also on us. Everyone wants commercial progress in life, but we have to strike that balance without disturbing the core of what this land stands for.”

The Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan is one of the biggest Indian films to hit the screens this year and the movie is making all the right noises. There was excitement galore ever since the project was announced and it kept getting higher by the time the prevue of the film was nearing. And once it was out, the anticipation for Jawan went sky high. The prevue literally took the SRK fans by storm with its action-packed visuals and style.

But along with the excitement, some unconfirmed news also made their way about the Atlee Kumar directorial venture. Over the last few days, it has been reported that Jawan will have a cameo by the latest heartthrob of the nation Kiara Advani in a song sequence. Several publications went onto report this.

However, the news about Kiara having an appearance in Jawan isn’t true. A well-placed industry source told us, “These rumours are absolutely baseless. No song has been shot, nor Kiara Advani has any cameo in the film. Jawan is such a huge film, everyday one hears of one rumour or the other.”

Jawan is produced by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment and the film also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, Ridhi Dogra and Sanjeeta Bhattacharya. The movie is all set to hit the theatres on September 7.

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan is reflecting on his last release Bhediya and how the film found its audience on the digital platform. The film released in theatres last November. Though it was appreciated for its efforts, the film didn't perform as per expectations at the box office.

In an interview with Indian Express, the actor said, “You pick yourself up and move on. You have to hit back, you can’t sulk. Take a few days and get back to work. With Bhediya, my expectations were huge but we came in that period… However, the film found its audience on OTT and three months after the release, the studio surprised me with the news that there will be a sequel. I love that character and am really looking forward to playing it again.”

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan is gearing up for the release of Bawaal. It stars Janhvi Kapoor and will release on Prime Video on July 21.

There has been a whole lot of buzz about director Subhash Ghai, who has been away from the scene for long, doing a sequel to his 1993 film Khal Nayak. All untrue, sadly.

So no reprise to Madhuri Dixit’s ‘Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai’? “Not that I am aware of. I don’t think a sequel to Khal Nayak is possible after so long,” laughed the ever-affable Jackie Shroff, who played an upright cop named Ram Kumar in Khal Nayak.

Jackie confirms that his character in the film was based on Rama in the Ramayan while Sanjay Dutt played a variation on Ravana. Jackie said, “If you look at our cinema, fifty percent of it is based on the Ramayan. It is our most beloved story.”

While shooting down any possibility of a Khal Nayak sequel, Jackie lets out that he will be starting a new film Subhash Ghai soon. “It’s a film called Salaakhen. I think he wants to start it in October. Working with Subhash Ghai is like coming home,” said Jackie.

Jackie Shroff was seen in as many as five Bollywood films last year in the form of Om: The Battle Within, Atithi Bhooto Bhava, Phone Bhoot, Mili, and Life Is Good. He has a biggie coming up in the form of Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, which stars Ajay Devgn in the titular role.

Veteran Marathi and Hindi film actor Ravindra Mahajani was found dead yesterday in his rented apartment at Talegaon Dabhade, which is on the outskirts of Pune. He was 77. As per reports, Mahajani was staying in the rented apartment alone for about eight months.

Reports also stated that Mahajani’s neighbours contacted the police on Friday evening after they noticed a foul smell from his apartment. As the door was locked, the police had to break open the door. After entering the house, they found Mahajani’s dead body.

As per a report in Indian Express, the police suspect that the death might have occurred two or three days before the body was found. After informing the family of the deceased, the police sent the body for post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

Mahajani started acting in Marathi films from the mid-1970s after making his debut with V Shantaram’s Zunj (1975). Some of his other noteworthy films include Mumbaicha Fauzdar, Kalat Nakalat, Devta, Gondhalat Gondhal, Jeeva Sakha, Sarja, etc.

Mahajani also acted in some Bollywood movies. In fact, his very last appearance in a movie was in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Panipat in 2019. The film also starred his son Gashmeer Mahajani, who is a noted actor in the Marathi arena since around a decade. The latter is also known for his Hindi TV show Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal.

Following the release of the trailer, Prime Video recently dropped the second song ‘Dil Se Dil Tak’ from the much-awaited film, Bawaal. A breathtaking tune in the soulful voices of Laqshay Kapoor, Akashdeep Sengupta and Suvarna Tiwari, the song is composed by Akashdeep Sengupta with lyrics written by Kausar Munir. Starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles, the film is helmed by Nitesh Tiwari.

Enjoying the romantic song, Varun Dhawan shared a video of himself posing with Janhvi Kapoor. He gives a sweet kiss to the actress in the adorable video. The actor was donning a peach t-shirt whereas the actress wore a shimmery dress with a white jacket. He wrote, “Ajju aur Nisha ka Bawaal ❤ 21 st july.” A window into the love story of Ajay and Nisha as they journey through the picturesque backdrop of Europe, ‘Dil Se Dil Tak’ reminisces their romantic memories of them.

With the 13th season of Khatron Ke Khiladi, Rohit Shetty will be back as the host of the reality show. Featuring several TV celebs, the show will kick off today. Prior to that, the director did several interviews where he talked about the show. He also said that he is excited for Jawan and was happy to see Pathaan become tremendously successful.

Rohit Shetty, who has worked with Shah Rukh Khan in Chennai Express and Dilwale, told News18, “I loved the promo. I love director Atlee and he is superb. I don’t think I have missed any of Atlee’s films. I’m loving it. I’m loving that Pathaan did so well and now there’s a blockbuster written in Jawan in every frame.”

When asked if he wishes to direct Shah Rukh Khan in an action genre, he added, “Most definitely, if some good script comes up we will for sure.”

Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty will also make his digital debut with the web series Indian Police Force starring Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi. He has Singham Again with Ajay Devgn and Deepika Padukone.

On the other hand, Jawan is a Red Chillies Entertainment presentation, directed by Atlee, produced by Gauri Khan and co-produced by Gaurav Verma. The film will release worldwide in theatres on September 7, 2023 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. Shetty said that he made Cirkus during the pandemic keeping the audience in mind at the time. “I know what we did. We, obviously, went wrong somewhere. It was made right after Sooryavanshi and in the middle of the pandemic for the workers. It was a small film meant for the audience of that time,” the filmmaker said to India Today. 

The filmmaker added that it was the same audience that made Sooryavanshi a hit during the pandemic. He said that he takes ownership of the failure and such failures ground you. “Every 5 years, you are grounded by such failures,” he said.

THE TRIAL is the story of a woman’s personal and professional struggles. Noyonika Sengupta (Kajol) is a homemaker who is married to Additional Judge Rajiv Sengupta (Jisshu Sengupta). Both are parents to young girls, Ananya and Anaira. All is going well in their life until one day, it comes to light that Rajiv slept with an escort, Tina. Their intimate video clip goes viral on news channels and social media. Rajiv is also accused of bribery and is arrested. The assets of Sengupta’s get frozen. As a result, Noyonika and her daughters shift to a smaller house on rent. She is also compelled to practice law once again. Vishal Choubey (Alyy Khan), her ex-flame, offers her the position of a junior lawyer in his law firm, Ahuja Khanna Choubey & Associates (AKC Associates). It is run by Vishal, Malini Khanna (Sheeba Chaddha) and Kishore Ahuja (Kiran Kumar). Malini is not very welcoming of Noyonika as she feels that she has got the job because of her proximity to Vishal and not on merit. Besides Noyonika, Dheeraj Paswan (Gaurav Pandey) also joins the firm as a junior lawyer. Both are on probation for six months and only one of them will get a permanent position in AKC Associates. While Noyonika adjusts to her workplace, she also has to face allegations and mud-slinging, thanks to her husband’s clip. How she tackles all of it and ensures her daughters don’t lose hope forms the rest of the show.

THE TRIAL is based on the American show The Good Wife. Its first season had 23 episodes while THE TRIAL consists of just 8 episodes. In each episode, Noyonika fights and tries to win a case. The writers (Abbas Dalal, Hussain Dalal and Siddharth Kumar) have done a good job of Indianizing this bit. Most of the cases shown in the show are not taken from the original series. Abbas Dalal, Hussain Dalal and Siddharth Kumar's screenplay is fine. There’s a lot happening and the writing doesn’t allow any scope for boredom. However, several developments are unconvincing. Abbas Dalal, Hussain Dalal and Siddharth Kumar's dialogues are simple but a few one-liners are clapworthy.

Suparn S Varma's direction is decent. He keeps the narrative simple and engaging. Every episode is only 35-40 minutes long and moves at a nice pace. Moreover, THE TRIAL is not just any other courtroom drama. It is the story of a family facing a crisis and this track is moving. The research is also spot-on and some of the tactics used by lawyers to win is well depicted. The track of a news anchor being sued for defamation is the best part of the web series. What also works is Noyonika’s bond with her ex-lover and how it complicates matters. The series ends on an intriguing note, with the promise of a sequel.

On the flipside, the first 6 episodes are devoid of any high points. One doesn’t mind the goings-on and viewers will even be gripped. But they won’t be overwhelmed or won’t have tears rolling down their cheeks over the problems faced by the Senguptas. Some of the cases don’t have the desired impact. The track of the dead music composer is the weakest of the lot. The dead cricketer and the dead security guard cases are very convenient. The culmination of the track of the HR having an extra-marital affair is not well-explained, especially Noyonika’s actions. Lastly, Kishore Ahuja’s sudden decision to leave the firm is difficult to digest, especially when he had no solid grounds to do so.

Speaking of performances, Kajol is in top form as always. This role required a powerhouse performer like her and she does a fine job, be it in the emotional or in the dramatic scenes of the court. Kubbra Sait (Sana) shines. Her character is quite cool and she does complete justice to it. Aseem Hattangadi (Ilyas Khan) is the surprise of the show. He’s natural and his character, too, is damn good. In fact, one would wish for a problem-solver like Ilyas in one’s life! Jisshu Sengupta is decent but gets overshadowed. Alyy Khan leaves a huge mark. Sheeba Chaddha is dependable. Kiran Kumar is over the top, as per the requirement of his character. Gaurav Pandey delivers a splendid performance. His dialogue delivery is powerful. Aamir Ali (Inspector Pradeep Shinde) is okay and is hardly there. The same goes for Rituraj Singh (Sharad Jadhav). Manasvi Mamgai (Juhi Bhatia) is fine while Atul Kumar (Daksh Rathod) is too good. The other actors who do well are Shruti Bisht (Ananya), Suhani Juneja (Anaira), Aditi Singh (Tina), Arjun Kachroo (Rajat Kakkar; the school boy accused of murder), Suchitra Pillai (Shivani Bahl), Karim Hajee (Anand) and Flora Saini (Anisha Menon).

Siddharth and Sangeet Haldipur's music in the opening credits is catchy. Siddharth and Sangeet Haldipur's background score is classy. Manoj Soni's cinematography is neat. Priya Suhas’ production design is praiseworthy. All the courtroom sets seem straight out of life. Theia Tekchandaney's costumes are in sync with the characters’ personalities. The ones worn by Kajol are appealing. Ninad Khanolkar's editing is appropriate.

On the whole, THE TRIAL is worth watching for the performances, storyline and some powerful emotional and dramatic moments.

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has announced the nominations for its highly anticipated 14th edition. As the largest Indian film festival outside of Indian soil, IFFM continues to captivate audiences worldwide. The winners of the prestigious IFFM 2023 Awards will be announced during the festival, at their annual gala night on 11th August 2023 which is set to be hosted at the iconic Hamer Hall in Melbourne, one of the world's most sophisticated concert halls.

Hrithik Roshan is celebrating the birth anniversary of his grandfather, music director Roshan. The actor said that he never got to meet him as he had passed at the age of 40 but his music remains a treasure for him. Along with the photo of his grandfather, the music playing in the background is ‘Oh Re Taal Mile Nadi Ke Jal Mein’ from the 1968 film Anokhi Raat starring Sanjeev Kumar. The lyrics were by Indivar and sung by Mukesh.

Hrithik Roshan took to Instagram to pen a heartfelt note. He wrote, “Today marks the 106th birth anniversary of my Daduji - Roshan, whose name I inherit. Although I never had the honor of meeting him, learning from him or physically experiencing his love, I am blessed with a priceless treasure: his work... his music. Legends have a way of transcending time through their art. His songs are the foundation of the Roshan family’s journey and I am immensely proud to be a part of his extraordinary lineage. Celebrating my Daduji’s immortal legacy through one of my favourite songs by him ♥️ I celebrate this song even more because my Daduji never got to celebrate its success… he passed away soon after he recorded this brilliant track. He was 40 years old.”

On the work front, Hrithik Roshan will next star in Fighter. Helmed by Siddharth Anand, the film stars Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor. It is set for January 25, 2024 release. National award-winning filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari is currently gearing up for the release of Bawaal. The film’s trailer was launched at the iconic Queen Elizabeth II in Dubai. The film stars Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor. However, he also has an ambitious project in the works in the form of Ramayana. But, the filmmaker isn’t worried about the backlash even after the fate of Adipurush.

In a chat with Zoom Entertainment, Nitesh Tiwari spoke about Ramayana and whether he is worried about a mythology subject after the controversies surrounding Adipurush. He said, “My question is very simple. I am also a consumer of the content that I create and if I’m not going to offend myself than I’m very confident that I might not end up offending anybody else.”

While the film is yet to confirm its cast, rumours are rife that after Hrithik Roshan’s exit from the project, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have been offered the lead roles.

Meanwhile, Tiwari’s Bawaal is a timeless love story by Sajid Nadiadwala’s production banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment in collaboration with Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari’s Earthsky Pictures. Bawaal will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in India and across 200 countries and territories worldwide on July 21.
