Rani Mukerji's blockbuster Mardaani franchise, in which she essays the character of Shivani Shivaji Roy, has won her unanimous love and acclaim. The film completed 9 years earlier this week. Rani says, “I’m very proud of the Mardaani franchise. As an actor, I have tried to project women very differently through my films. I realised I could contribute towards showcasing women as real agents of change for society to look at.”

She adds, “I have tried to show women as ambitious, self-reliant, courageous, go-getters who are uncompromising, feisty and upright individuals. Mardaani fits into my vision for women in cinema aptly and because of this synergy, I think I have been able to give 200 percent to this character.”

Rani feels there is a lot of similarity between her Mardaani character, Shivani Shivaji Roy and how she is in real life. Rani says, “Shivani and I are the same. There is no difference. I have never let anyone tell me how to lead my life and I have fought all my battles by myself. Shivani Shivaji Roy is exactly the same. Maybe this is why people love the franchise and my character so much because I’m actually playing myself through this cop.”

“Mardaani franchise is quite a glass-ceiling-shattering one as it’s a blockbuster franchise with a woman as the lead. I hope the success of this franchise will help in many more films being made with women at the forefront,” she says.

Mardaani was a 2014 action thriller film directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar and starring Rani Mukerji. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it earned Tahir Raj Bhasin a lot of praise for his performance as the villain. Now, both actresses are celebrating their prestigious wins at the 69th National Film Awards 2023 which took place on August 24. Duped and sold to a brothel, Gangubai Kathiawadi is a story of a young woman who fearlessly reclaims her power, using underworld connections to preside over the world she was once a pawn in. Directed and written by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Gangubai Kathiawadi is produced by Bhansali Productions and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios.) The film features a remarkable lineup of actors, including Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Jim Sarbh, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Bhargava among others.

On the other hand, Mimi, helmed by Laxman Utekar, is the story of a girl who decides to become a surrogate mother. The story is inspired by a Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy. It stars Kriti Sanon, Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar, Supriya Pathak and Manoj Pahwa.

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt has signed YRF’s female-driven spy movie. She also has another Dharma Productions’ in the works with Vasan Bala.

Bollywood actors Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel are back on the big screen with their latest release, Gadar 2. A sequel to the 2001 release Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, the film helmed by Anil Sharma also stars Utkarsh Sharma. The film entered Rs. 400 crore club at the Indian box office on August 23. However, 'Main Nikla Gaddi Leke' and 'Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava' music composer Uttam Singh has slammed the makers.

In an interview with Amar Ujala, Uttam Singh said in Hindi, “They didn’t call me for Gadar 2 and I don’t have the habit of calling and asking for work. They have used two of my songs in the film and I have also heard that they have used the background music that I composed. They should at least have the etiquette to ask me once and talk to me before using my songs in the film.”

After the film crossed Rs. 400 crore mark at the box office, Sunny Deol took to Instagram to share a video to thank the audiences. In the video, he said, "Hello everyone. First and foremost, aap sab ka bahut bahut dhanyawaad. Aapko picture pasand aayi. Maine socha bhi nahi tha. Hum log 400 cross kar chuke hai, aage jaenge. But yeh sab aapke wajah se hua hai, aapko film pasand aayi, Tara Singh pasand aya, Sakeena pasand ayi, pura parivar pasand aya. So, thank you, thank you, thank you."

Renowned Indian actress Seema Deo, celebrated for her memorable performances in classic Hindi films like Anand and Koshish, breathed her last today at 81. Her son, filmmaker Abhinay Deo, confirmed the news of her passing, who revealed that she had been battling Alzheimer's disease.

Abhinay Deo shared with indianexpress.com, "Mom passed away earlier today. She was fine, she was suffering from Alzheimer’s, but otherwise, she was fine." In 2020, Abhinay publicly shared his mother's medical condition, calling for prayers and support from well-wishers.

Seema Deo, who appeared in over 80 films during her illustrious career, was not only a prominent figure in Hindi cinema but also a celebrated name in Marathi cinema. Her contributions to Marathi cinema included roles in films like Jagachya Pathivar and Vardakshina. She continued to enchant audiences with her talent, with her last appearance in the 2021 Marathi film Jivan Sandhya.

Reflecting on her career, Seema Deo had credited her guru, Raja Paranjape, for her success. In a past event in Pune, she remarked, "Whatever I could achieve in my career, it’s all because of my guru Raja Paranjape. He not only taught me to act but also trained me so rigorously that it became very natural."

Seema Deo was married to the legendary actor Ramesh Deo, who passed away last year on February 2. Ramesh Deo also played a prominent part in Anand.

Imran Khan, the charismatic actor who recently stirred a social media storm with his hints about a Bollywood comeback, once again captivated his Instafam on Wednesday. Bollywood actor Ameesha Patel is back on the big screen with the latest Gadar 2. The film stars Sunny Deol and Utkarsh Sharma. It has collected Rs. 388.60 crores at the Indian box office. In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, the actress spoke at length about her career, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and more. During the conversation, she recalled how after the release of Gadar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali asked her to retire right.

“Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, after watching Gadar, wrote a really beautiful letter, a complimentary letter to me. And when I had a meeting with him, he said, ‘Ameesha, you should retire now.’ I said, ‘Why?’ He said, ‘Because you’ve already achieved in two films what most people don't achieve in their entire career. Once in a lifetime, a Mughal-e-Azam, a Mother India, a Pakeezah, a Sholay gets made. You had it in your second film. So what's next?' I didn't understand it at that time because I was a kid, so new to the film world," Ameesha Patel told Bollywood Hungama.

In the same conversation, she added, “Gadar set the bar so high that anything in my films that were superhits after that, whether it was Humraaz (2002), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) or Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007), it was a straight comparison to Gadar.”

Gadar 2 is currently running in theatres. The film, helmed by Anil Sharma, is closing at Rs. 400 crore at the box office.

Back in October 2022, Vidyut Jammwal and Aditya Datt announced their next project Crakk - Jeetegaa Toh Jiyegaa which is scheduled to release in 2023. It was presented by Reliance Entertainment and produced by Action Hero Films & PZ Pictures, and will be jointly produced by Vidyut Jammwal, Parag Sanghvi, and Action Hero Films and is written as well as directed by Aditya Datt. The film also stars Arjun Rampal with Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead role. However, it seems like Fernandez has now been replaced in the movie by Nora Fatehi.

In recent times, T-Series took over the production of the project. Jacqueline Fernandez has been in the headlines since her alleged involvement with Sukesh Chandrashekar. The actress had reportedly kicked off shooting in October itself. Now, as per a report in Hindustan Times, Nora is on board as the female lead. Interestingly, she is also mired in the same controversy and they are currently at loggerheads over a defamation case.

Crakk - Jeetegaa Toh Jiyegaa is going to be India’s first-ever extreme sports action film and revolves around the journey of a man from the slums of Mumbai to the world of extreme underground sports. It will have Vidyut Jammwal performing a variety of extreme sports stunts and action sequences all on his own.

Crakk is co-produced by Adi Sharmaa and Aditya Chowksey, written by Aditya Datt, Sarim Momim, Rehan Khan with the additional screenplay - dialogue by Mohendar Pratap Singh. Crakk - Jeetegaa Toh Jiyegaa has commenced shooting in Poland and is scheduled to release in 2023. The action entertainer Major Saab recently completed 25 years. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and Sonali Bendre, it was released on June 26, 1998, and was one of the few hits of Big B before he changed gears with Mohabbatein (2000). The film is remembered not just for its performances and plot but also for the chartbuster song ‘Sona Sona’. As Major Saab celebrates its 25th anniversary, we bring to you two fascinating trivia from this Tinnu Anand directorial.

According to Komal Nahta's Film Information Magazine's June 27, 1998 issue, ‘Sona Sona’, sung by Sudesh Bhosle, Sonu Nigam and Jaspinder Narula, was originally meant for Amitabh Bachchan’s 1999 release Lal Baadshah. Music director Aadesh Shrivastava composed the dance number for K C Bokadia’s film. However, the producer-director realized that there was no situation for ‘Sona Sona’ in Lal Baadshah. By then, Amitabh Bachchan had heard it and loved it a lot. This is when K C Bokadia decided to part with the rights to the songs. ‘Sona Sona’, thus, became a part of Major Saab, which was produced by Big B’s AB Corp Ltd (ABCL).

That’s not all. Producer Vashu Bhagnani also had a heartfelt contribution to Major Saab. As per Film Information Magazine's June 13, 1998 issue, the publicity materials of Major Saab were not ready as late as three weeks before the scheduled date of release. This was a matter of concern at a time when social media was non-existent. Hence, makers had to rely on hoardings to get the public aware as well as excited about their product. The situation was so grave that ABCL even contemplated postponing Major Saab’s release.

This is when Vashu Bhagnani, producer of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1999), also starring Amitabh Bachchan, came to the rescue. He took charge of getting the posters prepared in the shortest time possible. At the same time, he also ensured that the quality of the publicity materials was not compromised.

Anil Sharma took to his Instagram handle to share that Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas sent him a note and flowers on the success of the movie. For unversed, Priyanka made her Bollywood debut in Anil Sharma’s 2003 film Hero: Love Story Of A Spy starring opposite Sunny Deol. The director captioned the post, “Thx @priyankachopra and @nickjonas for your warm wishes…it really touched my heart #Gadar2."

Ever since his last release Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan has not announced any of his future projects. Earlier I used to produce very few films, but now we are planning to produce a lot of films).”

He further added, "As a production house ek platform ban saku young logo k liye, unka kaam saamne rakhne ke liye ek zaariya ban saku. Toh uss soch se maine thoda waqt diya hain apne production house ko taaki main systems create karu production house mein taaki phir se joh subject mujhe achha lage jaldi se jaldi ban sake aur hum ek saath do teen films bana sake. Uss sabka main planning kar raha hoon taaki platform mile logo ko, youngsters ko (As a production house, it could become a platform for young people to showcase their work. Filmmaker Karan Johar has returned to the big screen as director after seven years with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, the film also stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Churni Ganguly. The film has unanimously received all the love and support from audiences and critics alike. Karan admits that the film is a result of all the pent-up anger over the years.

When asked if the film was a result of his life experiences, Karan Johar told Indian Express, “You know, when I was a child, I was raised by very progressive parents. They gave me the freedom to be who I was. I was a very feminine child, very different from kids in my class or my neighbourhood. Everyone else grew up on pop culture or Western music. I grew up on Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Mohammed Rafi and Kishor Kumar. I sang those songs loudly in a tone-deaf voice. I danced to those songs in my room and my father would think it was great and he would actually ask me to dance in front of his friends. He thought I was expressing myself. He did not realise that I was being feminine or being unusual or different from the other boys. The other kids were not exactly welcoming to this kind of personality.”

Karan Johar continued, “In those days, there was no term that was about your sexual orientation. There was this word ‘pansy’, and it got stuck in my head. Then I was overweight. I seek refuge in food because I could not handle this term that was thrown at me when I went out and met boys, girls from other schools. It was traumatising. I was raised to be this kind of person by my parents and I don’t want to apologise for it to anybody. And I think this film is an expression of that.”

He added, “This film is a lot of me rebelling, not only my childhood, but there is a latent anger that you build with what has happened in the last couple of years and then you have a way of saying that ‘nothing else matters but your individuality.’”

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol is basking in the success of his recent release Gadar 2. Returning with a sequel after twenty years, the film has collected Rs. 336.20 crores at the box office in India. While the collections are soaring, rumours are rife that Deol has signed Border sequel. But, the actor claims he hasn’t signed any project yet.

On his Instagram stories, Sunny Deol wrote, “Some news has been circulating of me signing a few films, I would like to inform that currently I am only concentrating on Gadar 2 and receiving all your love. I have not signed any film and would be announcing something special soon at the right time. Till then keep showering your love on Tara Singh and Gadar 2.”

As per a report in Pinkvilla, the web portal said, “Border is among the most historic blockbusters of Indian Cinema and is easily a film that warrants a part two. The team has been discussing the probability of making a Border sequel for the last 2 to 3 years and everything has now finally fallen into place as the team is all set to make an official announcement of Border 2 in a fortnight.” The source further informed them that the makers are gearing up to tell the story of the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

The source added, “Being a heavy-on action film, the team will be casting actors from the younger generation rather than bringing together the entire troop of Border. Sunny Deol will probably be the only actor from Border, who will be a part of Border 2 as well. It’s all in the early stages at the moment and more updates shall come our way once the film is officially announced very soon.”

Bollywood Hungama was the first one to report yesterday that Sunny Villa, owned by actor Sunny Deol and situated in Mumbai’s Juhu area, will be e-auctioned for non-payment of dues amounting to Rs. 55.99 crores. The information came out in public after Bank Of Baroda published a notice in The Times Of India dated August 20. The notice further said that the e-auction will be held on September 25, 2023. The ad also informed readers that Ajay Singh Deol aka Sunny Deol is the borrower and guarantor, Vijay Singh Deol aka Bobby Deol and Dharmendra Deol are guarantors and Sunny Sounds Pvt. Ltd. is the corporate guarantor. After the news went viral, Sunny Deol’s spokesperson released a statement, “We are in the process of resolving this issue and the issue will be resolved. We request for no further speculation on the same.”

Some news outlets also mentioned that since a settlement is possible in this case, Sunny Deol is ready to go all out to save his property. And now, it has come to light that superstar Akshay Kumar has come to the rescue of Sunny Deol.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Akshay Kumar had a meeting with Sunny Deol on Sunday, August 20, hours after the news of the notice spread like wildfire. He immediately decided to help the Gadar 2 (2023) actor. As part of the deal, Akshay Kumar will be paying a huge chunk of the debt. Sunny Deol will then repay the loan to Akshay Kumar in a stipulated time. The next step for Sunny Deol is to immediately initiate a meeting with the bank officials.” The exact amount to be loaned by Akshay Kumar is not confirmed though sources claim it’s around Rs. 30-40 crores.

An industry insider commented, “If this is true, it shows how our film industry is indeed like a family where people come to help in times of need. And it also shows Akshay Kumar’s large-heartedness. He’s truly one of its kind.”

Recently, Sunny Deol-starer Gadar 2 and Akshay Kumar-starrer OMG 2 released on the same day, on August 11. It was heartening to see that both wished well for each other. Akshay, in fact, promotes Gadar 2 in OMG 2 as he sings Gadar’s classic song ‘Udd Ja Kaale Kaava’ in an important scene.

A few days after the release of these movies, Akshay Kumar promoted the hashtag #OhMyGadar and put out the ‘Udd Ja Kaale Kaava’ scene of OMG 2. The text in the post was, “A big thank you to our audiences for all the love for #OhMyGadar and giving us the greatest week in Indian Film History! प्यार और आभार #Gadar2 in cinemas #OMG2 in cinemas”. It was rare to see an actor promoting the film of another actor in such a manner and it immediately won hearts.

Interestingly, Sunny Deol and Akshay Kumar have worked in just one film together, Jaani Dushman (2002). Akshay also appeared in a song in Blank (2019), featuring Sunny Deol and also Akshay’s wife Twinkle Khanna’s cousin, Karan Kapadia.

Sunny Deol, who is basking in the success of Gadar 2, has been in the headlines for the past few weeks for the box office collections of the movie. However, recently, it was reported that the Bank of Baroda had put up his Mumbai bungalow on the block for auction after he defaulted Rs. 55.99 crore loan since December 2022. Now, reports suggest that the auction notice has been withdrawn by the bank.

NDTV reports that the state-owned Bank of Baroda released a statement which stated, “Corrigendum to e-auction notice with regards to sale auction notice in respect of Mr Ajay Singh Deol alias Mr Sunny Deol stands withdrawn due to technical reasons.”

On Sunday, the bank said that the auction of the Sunny Villa in Juhu of Mumbai would commence at Rs. 51.43 crore with the minimum bid amount set at Rs. 5.14 crore.

The notice sent on Sunday stated that Sunny Deol, actor and BJP MP from Gurdaspur, can still settle the debt with the Bank of Baroda and prevent the auction under the SARFAESI Act of 2002.

An insider earlier told Bollywood Hungama, “The notice states that the buyer, after paying the amount, will get ‘symbolic possession’. After the amount is deposited, Bank Of Baroda will approach the District Magistrate. Once the DM approves, the buyer will get physical possession of the property. However, this process can be slow and can take months or even years. Until then, Sunny Deol can operate his business from Sunny Villa.”

Sunny Villa houses Sunny Super Sound, the office of the actor, a preview theatre and two other post-production suites. The preview theatre is extremely famous and most of the big releases have their cast and crew and industry screenings at Sunny Super Sound. Several press shows for journalists are also held here. And now, his next is also about the Indian Army and will star superstar Salman Khan as an Army Officer," a source told Bollywood Hungama.

The shooting will begin in November and Salman will be preparing to get a lean shape for the film. The Indian Army Officers have a certain physique and Salman will be working towards attaining a perfect body type and physique for the film. He will also be sporting an Army Cut, the look he was spotted in recently. According to a source, he is very excited to play an Indian Army Officer in the film.

Directed by Vishnu Vardhan, Salman Khan, and Karan Johar's yet-to-be-titled film is slated to release during the Christmas 2024 weekend. There is a lot of irony all around us and, more than this kind of checklist if we look at the base of the show, which is about two wedding planners creating these beautiful weddings – one is going through a divorce and the other can’t legally marry. It’s not about checklisting evils in our society, it sounds a very reductionist way of looking at it.”

Zoya Akhtar added, “No, but it’s also a drama. You can’t have a wedding and nothing goes wrong and everybody is happy. That’s so boring.”

In recent times, an author called out the makers for using her story for the Dalit storyline in the storyline without crediting. Designer Tarun Tahiliani also called out the makers for using his designs in the show without proper credits.

Made In Heaven 2 premiered on Prime Video on August 10, four years after season 1. The blockbuster success of Gadar 2 has made Sunny Deol one of the hottest actors of Bollywood. The superstar created a frenzy in cinemas with his mass avatar in the Anil Sharma-directorial and made it clear that he still has an enviable fan following. As a result, it seems like producers are now jumping on the bandwagon and announcing sequels to his popular films in the 90s and early 2000s. Yesterday, there were reports that Border 2 is in the offing. Today, the announcement poster of Maa Tujhhe Salaam 2 was launched.

The poster was exclusively tweeted by veteran trade analyst Atul Mohan on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. The poster consists of the film’s title, a tricolour and a massy dialogue. The first part, Maa Tujhhe Salaam (2002), had the famous saying, ‘Doodh maangoge toh kheer denge, Kashmir maangoge toh chheer denge’. Maa Tujhhe Salaam 2’s poster, however, takes this dialogue one step further. It says, ‘Doodh maangoge toh kheer denge, Kashmir maangoge toh Lahore bhi chheen lenge’. Although the star cast is not unveiled, Sunny Deol, who featured in the first part, is expected to be a part of the sequel as well.

Besides Sunny Deol, Maa Tujhhe Salaam also starred Arbaaz Khan and Tabu. It is the story of Major Pratap Singh (Sunny Deol), stationed in Kashmir, who’s fighting the enemies from across the border. Albaksh (Arbaaz Khan), an illiterate man staying on the Indian side, works religiously for Lala Sultan (Tinu Verma). Lala, however, is hand-in-gloves with Pakistan’s Gul Mastan (Sudesh Berry) and they wish to liberate Kashmir from India. Albaksh leaves Lala once he learns of the latter’s anti-national activities. He has to pay a heavy price for it and this is when Major Pratap Singh comes to his rescue. Tabu features in the film as Captain Sonia Khanna.

Maa Tujhhe Salaam was released on January 25, 2022, a day before Republic Day and around six months after Gadar – Ek Prem Katha (2001). As a result, it got the benefit of its blockbuster success, patriotic fervour and decent word of mouth. However, many complained that Sunny Deol was missing in the middle of the film. Coincidentally, Gadar 2 also had the same issue and yet, it’s on its way to breaking records. It now remains to be seen whether Maa Tujhhe Salaam 2 features Sunny Deol from start to finish and which other actors will be cast.

Moreover, the poster of Maa Tujhhe Salaam 2 only mentions the name of producer Mahendra Dhariwal. The director’s name, too, hasn’t been announced yet. Maa Tujhhe Salaam 2 will release in cinemas soon.

The much-awaited comedy entertainer of the year Dream Girl 2 has been garnering eyeballs after the makers unveiled the trailer a few weeks ago. Furthermore, they have continued to give sneak peek into the film by releasing two songs 'Dil ka Telephone' and 'Naach'. By now, audiences are well aware that the makers have retained Pooja aka Ayushmann Khurrana in his girly look, as the main centre of attraction in the promotional campaign. And now, besides that, it is speculated that all the prominent names in the industry with the name of Pooja to assemble under one roof for something special that has never seen before.

While the character of Pooja is creating a sensation in the industry and a source close to the film has informed, “To indulge the essence of the Pooja’s character the makers are planning to rope in Pooja’s under one roof and the names that are being in discussions are Pooja Hegde Pooja Banerjee, Pooja Batra, Pooja Bhatt, Pooja Dixit and Pooja Gor.” However, nothing much has been revealed about this gathering, but the speculations are strong that the makers are planning to create something big this time.

Dream Girl 2 is directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and produced by Ektaa R Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor. Along with Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday as the lead couple, the film also stars Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, Seema Pahwa, Vijay Raaz, Manjot Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Ranjan Raj, Manoj Joshi, and Annu Kapoor in supporting roles. The film is all set to release next week on August 25.

Sunny Deol is on a high right now as his latest film, Gadar 2, is doing record business at the box office. In 9 days, it has earned nearly Rs. 336 crores, surprising the trade and industry. However, on the other hand, it has come to light that he is facing financial difficulties. As per a notice in The Times Of India dated August 20, a notice published by Bank Of Baroda states that Sunny Villa, owned by the actor and situated in Mumbai’s Juhu area, will be e-auctioned for non-payment of dues.

The notice states that Ajay Singh Deol aka Sunny Deol is the borrower and guarantor and that the total amount owed by him to the bank is Rs. 55,99,80,766.33. In other words, he owes Rs. 55.99 crores or nearly Rs. 56 crores which he failed to pay on time. As a result, the property will be auctioned on September 25, 2023. The auction won’t be held physically and will be done virtually.

An insider told Bollywood Hungama, “The notice states that the buyer, after paying the amount, will get ‘symbolic possession’. After the amount is deposited, Bank Of Baroda will approach the District Magistrate. Once the DM approves, the buyer will get physical possession of the property. However, this process can be slow and can take months or even years. Until then, Sunny Deol can operate his business from Sunny Villa.”

Sunny Villa houses Sunny Super Sound, the office of the actor, a preview theatre and two other post-production suites. The preview theatre is extremely famous and most of the big releases have their cast and crew and industry screenings at Sunny Super Sound. Several press shows for journalists are also held here. Established in the late 80s, the theatre and the post-production studios have been equipped with modern technology.

As per a report in Bombay Times in February 2016, Sunny Deol had mortgaged his studio to raise money for his directorial venture, Ghayal Once Again (2016). This report stated that to repay the dues he owed to his financiers; he decided to take a loan against his property.

Recently a lot was written about the relationship between the Deol brothers and Deol sisters after the latter were missing at Karan Deol’s wedding. Recently, Hema Malini was seen coming out of the multiplex and she couldn’t stop smiling after watching Gadar 2. In fact, she couldn’t stop praising the film and the work of Anil Sharma as she said, “Gadar dekh kar aayi hun. Bohut hi achha laga. Jo expected tha waise hi tha. Bohot hi interesting hai. Aisa lag raha tha ki 70s aur 80s ka us zamane ka film ke jaisa ek daur hai. Uss daur ko leke aaye hai Anil Sharma ji ne bohut beautiful direction kiya hai (I just watched Gadar. It is fantastic, It was exactly as expected and is quite interesting. I felt like I was transported to the 70s and 80s era. I am glad that Anil Sharma brought those days back on screen. The direction is truly beautiful.)

Furthermore, she also went on to gush about Sunny’s performance as she added, “Sunny is superb, Utkarsh, Anil Sharma ji's son unhone ne bhi bohot sundar acting kiya hai. Jo nayi ladki hai, woh bhi bohot achhi hai. Yeh picture dekh kar ek dum rashtra ke prati jo bhav hone chahiye, patriotism, woh bohut hi hai. For the unversed, Gadar 2 features Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel who reprised their role of Tara Singh and Sakeena after over two decades. With Utkarsh Sharma as their son Chiranjeet and debutant Simrat Kaur Randhawa as his leading lady, the film showcases the Indo-Pak relations during the 70s and released in theatres on August 11, marking the occasion of India and Pakistan’s Independence Day.

By now, all those who follow (or even those who don’t follow) Bollywood are aware that Gadar 2 has emerged as an all-time blockbuster. After Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan earlier this year, it’s Gadar 2 which has created ripples at the box office. The film is set to cross the 500 crores mark in India, a feat accomplished only by Pathaan and Baahubali: The Conclusion (Hindi version) before.

So what are the corporate lessons learnt?

1. Never underestimate experience: A 67 year old Sunny Deol comes and destroys all major box office records. The guy who delivered his last hit a decade back (Yamla Pagla Deewana 2) and faced a flurry of flops and disasters in years to follow returned to deliver an all-time blockbuster

2. Respect your product: Gadar - Ek Prem Katha was an all-time blockbuster too. The makers didn’t rush up to make a sequel. They waited for 20 years to find an ideal follow up and created a product which was much loved all over again

3. Don’t overspend: It’s the big idea that matters, not the big spend. In the times when even love stories are being made at a budget of around Rs. 200 crores, here comes an action film which has been made at just Rs. 70 crores. That’s the kind of moolah that’s being spent on so-called ‘content based films’ these days, and Gadar 2 makes an out and out mass masala commercial film out of it

4. KYC - Always the most important point - Know Your Customer: The makers (Anil Sharma, ZEE Studios) knew that they were catering to the length and breadth of the country, especially the interiors, and not just those 5-6 major cities. They didn’t make a classy feel for the multiplexes to earn quick money; they made a massy film to reach out to the lowest common denominator. The ticket price would be less, but the footfalls would be exponential, and that will take care of the revenue

5. Same, same but different: The product needs to be a mix of what the consumer wants and what they could potentially need. Give them something new but don’t deprive them of something that they have loved. They want Sunny Deol? Give them that. They want enemy bashing? Give them that. They want patriotism? Give them that. However, add a pinch of something new. This time, let the son (Utkarsh Sharma) go to Pakistan to hunt his father (different), but then eventually let the father save his son and bring him back to India (same same)

6. Save the USP: Every product worth its salt has a USP to it; something that distinguishes it from everything else, and just can’t be replicated. That’s where the hand pump scene comes into picture. You can make an entire Gadar 2 to Gadar 10, but you need to have the USP intact. Bring it at just that point of the narrative when audiences can no more bear the agony of the legendary moment make a comeback. 21 gun salute to the person who conceived the hand pump scene and ensured that the USP lives on for next two decades as well

The blockbuster success of Pathaan (2023) has enhanced the hype for Shah Rukh Khan’s next Jawan considerably. And as expected, the film has been picked up by distributors at a huge price. Bollywood Hungama, in this story, will inform readers about the various distributors and studios that have picked up Jawan’s theatrical rights in different circuits of India.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “In North and West India, PEN Marudhar has bought the theatrical rights to the film for a whopping amount of Rs. 150 crores in advance. Looking at the buzz, the PEN Marudhar team decided to shell out this huge amount as they are confident that the film will achieve record footfalls.”

Yesterday, Sree Gokulam Movies made it official with its tweet that they will distribute Jawan in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. A source down South revealed, “While Tamil Nadu territory was sold to Sree Gokulam for Rs. 15 crores, the studio shelled out Rs. 7 crores for the Kerala rights.”

A trade source shared, “Sree Gokulam Movies have further handed over the rights to Red Giant Movies in Tamil Nadu. As for Nizam/Andhra, Rajshri Films has been entrusted with the rights while Mysore territory rights have been picked up by Panorama Studios. The price at which the rights are sold has been a closely guarded secret. But it’s definitely one of the highest figures paid for a Hindi film in these regions.”

Talking of the East, the source said, “Prakash Films was going to release Jawan on a commission basis in Bihar. But now, they will release the film on MG (Minimum Guarantee).” While the exact figure given out by Prakash Films is not sure, sources peg the figure in the range of Rs. 5-6 crores. The source added, “If this range is true, then it’s the highest amount given by a distributor in Bihar for a Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, outside Pathaan.”

The source continued, “Odisha has been picked up by Rajshri Films at a record MG price of Rs. 4.5 crores. The state has been receptive to Shah Rukh Khan films and also to films with South touch. Jawan has both these factors.” The source also revealed that Shree Venkatesh Films (SVF) will release the action entertainer in West Bengal but on a commission basis.

Interestingly, Assam territory is still not closed. The source revealed, “A bidding is going on for this circuit. The deal is expected to be locked in the coming week.”

Overseas, meanwhile, Yash Raj Films will be releasing Jawan, on a commission basis.

Just yesterday, we had reported that the Netflix original film Do Patti produced by Kanika Dhillon under her banner Kathha Pictures would be helmed by Shashanka Chaturvedi. Now we hear that the film starring Kajol and Kriti Sanon will in fact, mark the first venture of a three-film deal between Dhillon and Chaturvedi.

Revealing details, a well-placed industry source reveals that while Do Patti will be a Netflix Original Film, the other two ventures are yet to be announced, “Do Patti is a suspense-thriller and will mark the start of a three-film collaboration between Kanika Dhillon and Shashanka Chaturvedi. While the film went into production yesterday, the other two ventures are yet to be announced. An official announcement of the deal will be made soon, wherein the other two projects will be revealed”.

For the uninitiated, Shashanka Chaturvedi aka BOB has done some remarkable work over two decades and has made a significate impact in filmmaking in India. Co-founder of Good Morning Films, BOB gained international; recognition in 2009 by securing the first two Gold Lions for India at the Cannes Film Festival. His expertise has earned him numerous awards, including D&AD, Grand Prix in Spikes Asia, One Show, Kyoorius, and Campaign India Awards, among others. He has also worked with renowned brands and directed over 100 commercials in India.

In a past report, speaking about her collaboration with BOB Kanika had said, “As I step into the shoes of the producer, having a credible director like BOB on board is the beginning of this exciting journey for Kathha Pictures.” Further talking about their maiden production venture, Do Patti Kanika added, “The film not only has celebrated actors like Kajol and Kriti Sanon, but also a trustworthy and reliable director like BOB. Cannot wait for everyone to see the magic he creates on this film!”

Similarly, BOB had nothing but praise for Kanika saying, “Kanika’s stories have always made me want to think and wonder if I can be a part of her vision, so this is going to be a special collaboration with her and Kathha pictures. As for their maiden production, Do Patti is a suspense-thriller produced by Kanika Dhillon and Kriti Sanon, starring Kajol and Kriti Sanon. The film will release on streaming giant Netflix.

Through this initiative, the festival welcomes the #LollaSquad back for a significantly more spectacular edition of the trailblazing music festival in India. The General On-Sale of tickets for Lollapalooza India 2024 will be live for everyone starting August 27th, 2023.

under #LollaForChange driven by BookASmile led several impactful measures at scale. Keeping sustainability, inclusivity and accessibility at its fore, the festival was wheelchair-friendly, featured sign language interpreters for select headlining performances, provided reusable glasses and was gender inclusive. Almost 22,500 kgs of waste were segregated and sent for recycling, composting, re-use and co-processing as per fitment. This included 1,890 kgs of food that was donated through waste management measures executed at the festival.

Lollapalooza India co-produced by BookMyShow Live has ushered in an era of thriving live music created by some of the most head-turning global and home-grown artists. Connecting with 60,000 fans over two days through high-impact energetic performances, cutting-edge stage production and immersive festival experiences, the festival has been a melting pot of musical genres, featuring everything from pop, rock, hip-hop, indie, Electronic Dance Music (EDM), techno and a host of new Indian sounds that were discovered by thousands of music lovers in its debut edition.

The festival also saw several indie artists perform during the specially curated #RoadToLolla pre-festive and after-parties that travelled across Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Hyderabad. Lollapalooza India’s first edition put India on the global festival circuit map and boosted the international artist roster flowing into the country, setting new benchmarks and raising the bar for the Indian music festival and entertainment ecosystem.

Lollapalooza India has not just been the hotbed of live music culture but also opened up a never-seen-before, magnanimous Lolla Food Park, several experiential zones such as festival-look glam stations and customized tailor shops & art installations for infinite flex-worthy grabs! OMG 2, although has been receiving rave reviews from many quarters, the box office earnings of the film is yet to achieve the standard Rs. 100 crores. Furthermore, there are several reports about the film going over budget because of the high fees of Akshay Kumar. However, clarifying on the same, the COO of producers Viacom 18, Ajit Andhare maintained that Akshay never charged any fees for his role in the movie.

For the unversed, Akshay Kumar is seen in an extended cameo of that of Lord Shiva’s messenger and the actor’s new look too has received a lot of love from his fans. Clarifying on the reports claiming that the film was made on a high budget because of the added remuneration of Kumar, Ajit Andhare told Pinkvilla, “The reports of the budget of OMG 2 are grossly exaggerated. On the contrary, Akshay didn't charge a rupee in fee and in fact, walked alongside us in both the financial and creative risk involved in such a courageous film.”

Furthermore, in the same report, Ajit also opened up about how their previous collaborations have always been smooth ones, adding that he is also grateful for the superstar for his extensive involvement in the film in every way. He continued, “We share a long history and understanding with him as a studio since OMG, Special 26, and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. I have been totally in lockstep with him in taking up scripts that are unconventional but stand for something larger and meaningful.” It is being said in these reports, that the film may not have exceeded the budget of Rs. 50 crores but there is no confirmation about the same.

Speaking of OMG 2, the film is directed by Amit Rai and it revolves around the subject of importance of sex education. The film features Pankaj Tripathi in the lead role along with Yami Gautam as a lawyer, and it released on August 11.
