Jimmy Shergill breaks free from the ‘Chocolate Boy’ image: “Yeh he naach-gana karta raha, 3-4 saal mein ghar pe baith jaunga”
Jimmy Shergill recently discussed his decision to break away from the “chocolate boy” image. In an interview, the actor shared that he actively sought out diverse roles to avoid being typecast. He emphasized that moving beyond the “chocolate boy” persona was crucial for maintaining a long-lasting career in the film industry.
Jimmy Shergill shared with Hindustan Times, “I felt that agar yahi naach-gana karta raha, 3-4 saal mein ghar pe baith jaunga (if I continued doing this song and dance, I would be sitting at home in 3-4 years). It will be over and done with.”
He added, “That is when films like Haasil, Munnabhai MBBS, A Wednesday, and Tanu Weds Manu came. I tried to make my look more real, without makeup, and bring more hardness to my face. Ab itna hard ho jayega, yeh nahi socha tha (I didn’t realise my look would become this hard). Now, the challenge is to try and to go back and bring that innocence back.”
In the early days of his career, Jimmy Shergill appeared in films such as Mohabbatein, Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar, and Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, among others. He later earned recognition for his performances in movies like Munna Bhai MBBS, Umar, Mannat, A Wednesday, and Chhodon Na Yaar. Recently, Shergill was seen in Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba alongside Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey, and also starred in Ajay Devgn’s Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha.
Jimmy Shergill is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Sikandar Ka Muqaddar, where he will portray the role of a police officer. The movie is a mystery thriller and also stars Tamannaah Bhatia and Avinash Tiwary in key roles. Sikandar Ka Muqaddar will be available for streaming on Netflix starting November 29.
