How do you feel about Anaarkali of Aarah eight years down the line? It’s been eight years since Anaarkali of Aarah was released, yet it feels like it happened just yesterday. The memories from that time—the sounds, the images, the emotions—still echo within me with undiminished clarity. In some corner of my mind, time seems to have stood still, and I remain that same first-time filmmaker, watching the world I created unfold on a screen for the very first time. For me, Anaarkali of Aarah wasn’t just a film. It was a flight, a dream, a defiant poem woven from the threads of resistance, truth, and longing. A debut film is always a landmark in a filmmaker’s life, but this one—this one was a declaration of intent. It wasn’t only a story I wanted to tell; it was the voice I had carried in me for years, waiting for its moment to burst forth.

Tell me about the genesis of this compelling film. Crossing over from journalism into filmmaking is no small leap. Journalism gave me my politics, my lens, my empathy, and my instinct to dig deeper into the reality behind appearances. But the dream of holding a camera and telling a story with moving images never let me go. When I first wrote the story of Anaarkali of Aarah, I didn’t know if anyone would take it seriously. A folk singer who retaliates after being molested on stage and takes on the system—this logline alone made many people uncomfortable. It was considered "non-commercial," "too local," "too bold." But I wasn’t interested in market metrics; I was interested in truth. And I knew this film had to be made.

How did Swara Bhasker come into the picture? At the heart of any film is its protagonist. And I needed someone who could embody Anaarkali—bold, vibrant, unapologetic, rooted. A woman who could set the screen on fire and still make you feel the earth beneath her feet. Swara Bhasker was that woman. Our initial conversations were filled with passion, questions, and an intense commitment to the character. Swara didn’t just play Anaarkali; she lived her. She stepped into the mud, danced in the cold, screamed with fury, and carried the burden of every woman who had ever been wronged and silenced. It was not just a performance; it was an act of rebellion.

The shooting was really tough, wasn’t it? We shot the film in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi—not Aarah, as some might assume. The bitter cold of North India during the winter made every day a challenge. We had a limited budget, limited resources, and almost no margin for error. But what we had in abundance was passion. And sometimes, that is enough. There were days when the camera wouldn’t roll smoothly, nights when the fog was too thick to shoot, mornings when we were running on two hours of sleep. But there was fire in everyone’s eyes—the actors, the technicians, the spot boys, the costume girls. We were all chasing something that felt bigger than ourselves. Every shot had sweat behind it. Every scene had truth.

Pahlaj Nihalani and the censor board clamped down on the film? Once the film was complete, we faced a quiet but calculated hurdle—the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) awarded Anaarkali of Aarah an ‘A’ certificate. There weren’t loud objections or dramatic demands for cuts; instead, it was a more subtle move—a classification that would directly impact the film’s reach and visibility. Our producers were clear—they didn’t want a prolonged battle with the board. The focus was on ensuring that the film, as we had envisioned it, reached the audience in its true form—even if that meant accepting the limitations imposed by the ‘A’ certificate. As a filmmaker, I felt the frustration. Anaarkali was not a film of vulgarity or titillation; it was a film of resistance, of voice, of power. And yet, it was boxed in. But sometimes, you pick your battles. We chose to let the film speak louder than the label it was given. And it did.

The film found a strong niche audience? Despite the restrictions, Anaarkali of Aarah resonated. People found it, watched it, talked about it, and embraced it. The audience saw beyond the certificate, and perhaps that’s the greatest victory—that Anaarkali reached hearts, even when the system tried to limit her wings. When the film finally released, I didn’t expect what happened next. We were a small film with no big budget or marketing blitz. But we had honesty. And honesty speaks. People began writing to me—some emotionally moved, some stirred, some awakened. One message said, “We saw our sister in Anaarkali.” Another said, “For the first time, we saw our dialect, our struggles, our anger on screen.” No award could compare to that. So when you asked me what I feel now, eight years later—I found myself unable to speak for a moment. It all came rushing back—the nights I cried while writing the script, the mornings I forced myself to believe, the afternoons when no one returned my calls, the evenings when I wondered if this film would ever see the light of day. Since Anaarkali, I have made three more films and directed two web series. I’ve even started my own production house. But nothing ever quite feels like the first time.

Why? Because a debut film is not just a project. It’s a mirror. It shows you who you really are. It introduces you to your own voice—your fears, your courage, your politics, your pain. Even now, when someone hums Mann Baqaid Hua or Dunaliya Mein Jang Laaga Ho, or quotes a dialogue from the film—it touches something deep in me. I realize then that we created something enduring. Something that did not fade away with time. Anaarkali of Aarah gave me more than recognition. It gave me responsibility. It taught me that cinema is not just for entertainment—it can be a language of protest.

I owe everything to the people who walked with me on this journey—my producers, my co-writers, the cast and crew, the technicians, the spot boys, the costume department, the drivers, the chaiwala—each and every one who believed in a film that had no safety net. And I thank the audience—for embracing a bold, unapologetic woman from the heartland and making her a part of their own hearts.

Today, as I work on new projects—bigger sets, bigger ideas—I still carry Anaarkali inside me. She hasn’t left. She still sings, she still dances, and she still dares to speak truth to power. Anaarkali of Aarah was not just a film. It was the first song of my soul. And such songs don’t fade. They become echoes. They become memory. They become a legacy.

Bollywood filmmaker and producer Karan Johar recently shared a heartfelt and thought-provoking review of the Netflix mini-series Adolescence, calling it a “gut-wrenching” reflection on parenting and the pervasive influence of social media. In a detailed note posted on his social media, Johar praised the four-episode series as a “blasterclass for parents,” speaking of its relevance in today’s digital era and its profound impact on him both as a filmmaker and as a father to twins.

A Personal Reflection on Parenting Johar began his review by delving into the complexities of raising children. “I have always known that raising a child is as much a blessing as it is an arduous responsibility,” he wrote. “No book or podcast can prepare you or teach you to be the best version of yourself as a parent … what you need to first be is the best version of YOURSELF.” He highlighted how a parent’s words, actions, habits, and beliefs inevitably shape their children, noting, “They are embodiments of your soul … you may not realise the reflection but they will mirror you.” Adolescence: A Mirror to Modern Parenting In his note, Johar described Adolescence as a “wake-up loud call” for parents raising children in the age of social media. He contrasted his own upbringing with the realities of today’s youth: “I grew up on conversations, they speak in emojis … I grew up on books, they scroll reels … I grew up on self-discovery, they are surrounded by comparisons.” For Johar, the show exposes a hidden “pandemic” of disconnection and pressure that defines the current generation—a crisis amplified by platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

He praised Adolescence for tackling pressing issues such as “the gaze of perceived masculinity,” bullying, and the tendency to overlook children’s habits and behavioral patterns. “The pandemic is NOW! We just don’t see it,” Johar warned, urging parents to confront these challenges head-on. A Filmmaker Moved by Technical Brilliance Beyond its emotional depth, Johar lauded the series as a “technical marvel,” particularly its innovative use of four groundbreaking long shots. “The technical marvel of 4 ground-breaking long shots moved me as a filmmaker but broke me as a parent,” he wrote.

For Johar, Adolescence transcends the realm of mere entertainment. “This is more than a series, it’s a forever lesson,” he declared, crediting the show with heightening his “awareness and responsibility quotient” as a parent. He expressed gratitude to the creators—led by Stephen Graham—and Netflix for delivering a project that doubles as both a storytelling triumph and a societal mirror.

“I am raising twins … and I thank this show for building my awareness,” Johar added, emphasizing how the series has influenced his perspective on parenting in a digitally dominated world.

Actor Deepika Padukone recently sparked a conversation about the Academy Awards’ treatment of Indian cinema, calling out what she perceives as a recurring oversight of deserving films and talent. In a candid Instagram reel shared while preparing for the Louis Vuitton show in Paris, the actress expressed her frustration, stating that “India has been robbed of the Oscars many times.”

Deepika’s Emotional Connection to RRR’s Oscar Win In the video, Deepika was responding to the question, “What’s an Oscar win that felt personal for you?” Reflecting on the monumental success of RRR, directed by S.S. Rajamouli, she shared how its 2023 Oscar win for Best Original Song (‘Naatu Naatu’) struck a deep chord with her. “I remember being in the audience, and when they announced RRR, I got emotional,” she said. “Outside of being an Indian, I had really nothing to do with that movie, but that was a huge, huge moment. That felt very, very personal.”

While celebrating RRR’s historic victory, Deepika didn’t shy away from critiquing the Academy’s broader track record. “Many, many deserving movies, I feel, have been snubbed. Whether it’s movies, whether it’s talent…” she remarked, hinting at a pattern of exclusion that she believes has overlooked India’s rich cinematic contributions. Highlighting Snubbed Indian Gems The Instagram reel didn’t just stop at words—it included a powerful visual tribute to Indian films that have earned critical acclaim but failed to secure Oscar nominations. Among the showcased titles were Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light, Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, Rahi Anil Barve’s Tumbbad, and Ritesh Batra’s The Lunchbox. These films, celebrated for their storytelling, innovation, and cultural depth, represent the kind of work Deepika feels has been unjustly ignored by the Academy.

India’s Oscar Journey: A Mixed Legacy India’s relationship with the Oscars has been a topic of discussion for decades. While films like Lagaan (2001) earned nomination and Slumdog Millionaire (2008)—the latter a British production with Indian roots—won more than one Oscar, many argue that the Academy often fails to appreciate the diversity and depth of Indian cinema beyond mainstream narratives. With over 2,000 films produced annually across multiple languages, India’s film industry is one of the world’s largest—yet its Oscar haul remains disproportionately small.

Actor Salman Khan recently made headlines during the trailer launch of his upcoming action-packed film Sikandar, where he addressed the ongoing social media chatter about the 31-year age difference between him and his co-star Rashmika Mandanna. The actor took a firm stand against critics, asserting that the age gap should not be an issue if the actress herself is unbothered by it.

Salman’s Bold Response to Social Media Trolls Speaking at the event, Salman Khan responded to the trolling and scrutiny that often accompanies such pairings in Bollywood. “Social media wale log aaj kal peeche pad jaate hai. Now they are saying that there is a 31-year difference between the heroine and me. Arey jab heroine ko problem nahin hai, heroine ke father ko problem nahin hai, toh tumko kyun problem hai bhai?” he quipped, translating to: “When the heroine has no problem with it, and her father has no issue, why should it bother you, brother?” His witty response was met with cheers and applause from the audience.

The actor didn’t stop at defending the age gap. He spoke about the evolving nature of an actor’s career, particularly for women in the industry. “Tomorrow when she gets married and has kids and becomes a big star, even then she will continue to work, right?”

This isn’t the first time Salman Khan has starred opposite a significantly younger actress. Over the years, he has worked with leading ladies like Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani, and Sonakshi Sinha, often facing similar criticism. Rashmika Mandanna: The Rising Star Rashmika Mandanna, often referred to as the "National Crush," has carved a niche for herself in both South Indian cinema and Bollywood. With blockbusters like Pushpa: The Rise and her Bollywood debut Goodbye, she brings a fresh energy to Sikandar. While Rashmika has not publicly commented on the age gap controversy, her pairing with Salman is already generating buzz, with fans eager to see their on-screen chemistry. The Age Gap Debate in Bollywood The discussion around age differences between male and female actors in Bollywood is not new. Veteran actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan have frequently been paired with actresses half their age, while female actors of similar age brackets are rarely cast in lead romantic roles opposite younger heroes. Salman’s blunt dismissal of the criticism at the Sikandar trailer launch has once again brought this topic into the limelight, prompting mixed reactions online. While some netizens praised Salman for calling out unnecessary trolling, others argued that the industry should focus on more balanced representation. What to Expect from Sikandar Sikandar marks Salman Khan’s return to the big screen after his 2023 film Tiger 3. Directed by AR Murugadoss and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film will be released on March 30. The advance booking window will be opened on March 25, which is tomorrow.

Speaking about her puberty journey, Avneet shared, “I feel like I’ve grown up in front of the camera. She explained, “I don’t get fillers, but I do get facials, and I definitely take care of my skin. I do everything to tighten my skin. I haven’t done anything to change my features, like getting a different nose. Nothing like that has happened to me. I have decent features.”

Avneet started her career in 2010 by participating in Zee TV's dance show Dance India Dance Li'l Masters, but was eliminated just before the semi-finals. Over four years after taking over the investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, sources revealed on Saturday.

Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was discovered dead in his Mumbai Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. His passing stunned numerous fans and led to various conspiracy theories, including claims of black magic involvement, which triggered an inquiry.

Officials confirmed that the closure report was filed for two cases: the accusations made by Sushant Rajput's father against his then-girlfriend and actress Rhea Chakraborty, and Ms. Chakraborty's claims against Sushant's family.

The CBI took over the investigation from the Bihar Police in August 2020. After more than four years of inquiry, sources said the agency found no evidence that anyone had caused Sushant Rajput's death, clearing Ms. Chakraborty and her family of any wrongdoing. The CBI absolved all individuals named in the two FIRs filed in the case, including Ms. Chakraborty, her parents, and her brother.

A forensic team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had also concluded that Sushant Rajput's death was not a murder, but rather a case of suicide.

Following Sushant Rajput's death, the Bihar Police filed a case of abetment to suicide based on a complaint lodged by his father, KK Singh, in Patna. The actor's family accused Ms. Chakraborty of mentally tormenting him, administering medication to him, exploiting him financially, and being involved in his death.

When the CBI assumed control of the investigation, the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) was instructed to conduct a forensic examination of the crime scene. A laptop, hard drives, a Canon camera, and two mobile phones were confiscated and thoroughly analyzed.

Ms. Chakraborty was one of more than 20 individuals questioned during the investigation.

Following the submission of the closure report, the Bandra magistrate court has set the next hearing for April 8. Once the court approves the closure report, the case can be officially closed.

In a statement, Rhea Chakraborty's lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, expressed gratitude to the CBI for thoroughly investigating every aspect of the case but criticized the false narratives surrounding it, calling them "totally uncalled for."

He stated, “Due to the pandemic everyone was glued to the TV & social media in the absence of anything happening in the country. Innocent people were hounded and paraded before the media and investigative authorities. I hope this does not repeat in any case... Rhea Chakraborty had to undergo untold miseries and was behind bars for 27 days for no fault of hers until Justice Sarang V Kotwal released her on bail.”

Sooraj Barjatya had an interesting conversation with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day, during which he spoke about his films, his journey and also that of his production house, Rajshri Productions, started by his grandfather, Tarachand Barjatya. The Pan-India phenomenon is quite huge right now, which usually involves a Southern language film being dubbed into Hindi. Sooraj Barjatya revealed that it was his grandfather who probably began this trend.

Sooraj Barjatya began by saying that Tarachand Barjatya used to work as a manager in Kolkata in a Bengali film company, Chamaria Pictures. This production house allowed him to start a small side business and this is how Tarachand began distributing films.

Sooraj Barjatya said, “Whenever I used to talk to him (Tarachand Barjatya), he used to have tears in his eyes when he would speak about Gemini Pictures. He started a small distribution company in CP-Berar. He was wondering how to start his business. He went to the South and met S S Vasan, who had made Chandralekha (1948), a Tamil film. It was a big hit film. He told Mr Vasan, ‘Why don’t you dub it in Hindi and release it all-India?’. Vasan asked, ‘Who would watch it? For them, it’s a non-star cast’. But my grandfather insisted that he should attempt. It was a big film; it was like Baahubali of those times.”

Sooraj Barjatya continued, “They (Chandralekha makers) dubbed and even reshot some portions with actors to match the lip movement. When the dubbed version was ready to be released, Mr Vasan told my grandfather to meet him to ‘talk business’. Mr Vasan asked him what he would like in return for the idea that he gave him. My grandfather said, ‘Whatever you feel like’. He replied, ‘I want you to open the all-India distribution with this film. Abhi nahin toh kab karoge? I want you to become as big as me’. Hearing this, my grandfather began to cry.”

Sooraj added, “Chandralekha was released by us and it was a huge hit. It was as huge as a Pushpa today; that kind of business it did.”

National Cinema Day and Cinema Lovers Day had a huge impact on footfalls at one point. But the last Cinema Lovers Day, which was held on January 17, failed to entice and this had led to a question mark on whether it still has the same pull. Nevertheless, today, Friday, March 21, is the day when most theatres across the country are selling tickets for cheap rates. But unlike the previous instances, there has been no declaration by the theatres or Multiplex Association of India about this scheme.

Yesterday, the makers of The Diplomat announced that the John Abraham-starrer’s tickets would be available for flat Rs. 99 on March 21. The offer is valid on normal seats and not on luxury format classes or screens. A few hours before the announcement, Chhaava makers also informed the viewers that their film, too, can be watched at reasonable prices.

Soon, it came to light that the tickets for all the new and holdover releases would be priced reasonably. The maximum ticket price of Superboys Of Malegaon, Crazxy and the new films like Tumko Meri Kasam and Pintu Ki Pappi are available for Rs. 150 while the morning shows are priced at Rs. 99 or Rs. 112. Those venturing out to see Tumko Meri Kasam, starring Anupam Kher, Ishwak Singh, Esha Deol and Adah Sharma, will be in for a treat as besides cheap tickets, they can also avail of the Buy One Ticket Get One Free offer. The BOGO scheme is available until Sunday, March 23.

This is probably the first time that BOGO and Cinema Lovers Day offers have been given to moviegoers. Another first is that the IMAX tickets of the new Hollywood release Snow White and the successful re-release Interstellar are available for just Rs. 149. This price point is fixed only for morning shows and that too in select IMAX screens like PVR Lower Parel, Eros Churchgate and Inox R City Ghatkopar. Yet, it’s significant as during the previous National Cinema Day and Cinema Lovers Day celebrations, the IMAX tickets were sold for Rs. 199.

Meanwhile, some multiplexes will see a heavy rush this weekend due to the Red Lorry Film Festival 2025. It’ll be held from March 21 to 23 in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Besides old classics, it’ll also be showing Oscar-winning films, Anora and Emilia Pérez. These films were never released in India theatrically due to Censor issues. Hence, this is a golden chance to see them on the big screen.

On the other hand, the dry period effect is kicking in for some cinemas. The management of Mumbai’s iconic theatre, Gaiety-Galaxy aka G7 multiplex, has shut the biggest screen, Gaiety, until March 29 due to a lack of exciting releases. As per sources, Gaiety will resume operations with the release of Salman Khan’s grand Eid release, Sikandar.

There is something ineradicably moving about Firaaq, isn't there? Yes, Firaaq will always remain very special to me because it was my first film and because the subject is very close to my heart. It was one of the most challenging experiences of my life. You know, as a first-time filmmaker, handling five different stories with five sets of actors and five different locations was not easy.

Didn’t you feel that was too much on your plate for your first film? I didn't realize what I was getting into, but I was driven by the desire, the passion, and the intent to tell that story. Violence deeply disturbs me—physically, psychologically, and emotionally. I believe we can create empathy when we understand why people feel fear or are vulnerable. One of the most powerful things cinema can do is to invoke empathy for a more compassionate world. That’s my hope—that I can contribute, even if just a drop, to that ocean.

Shooting with so many accomplished actors, and that too in tough locations—how was the experience? The shooting was definitely quite challenging, but it also brought many cherished memories. I’m so grateful that so many actors had faith in me and agreed to be part of the film without knowing whether I could even direct. I also had a stellar crew. I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with such eminent actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Deepti Naval, and Raghubir Yadav, as well as younger actors at the time like Sanjay Suri, Tisca Chopra, and newcomers such as Shahana Goswami and Nawazuddin Siddiqui—some of his earliest work. Amrita Subhash too! Being an actor myself, it was such a delight to work with artists of that calibre.

Don’t you feel Firaaq should be re-released? In today’s wave of film releases, I really wish Firaaq could be re-released. That would be amazing, even though it’s available for free on YouTube in a good-quality copy and has been watched by many over the years. I’ve always believed that any art of true substance will survive, and time is the greatest judge of all art—cinema included. But there’s something so immersive and collective about watching a film in a theatre. I hope someday it will be re-released because, at the time, not many people could watch it in cinemas. Also, social media wasn’t as widespread back then, so spreading the word was much more difficult. I believe many would be interested in watching it today if it were re-released.

Bollywood fans are in for a double treat this Eid as Ajay Devgn gears up to unveil the much-anticipated teaser of Raid 2 alongside Salman Khan’s action-packed Sikandar. According to an exclusive report by Pinkvilla, the Raid 2 teaser is set to make its grand debut both digitally and on the big screen, promising to kick off the promotional campaign for this high-stakes sequel with a bang. Here’s everything we know about this exciting development.

A Strategic Big-Screen Launch with Sikandar Scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1, 2025, Raid 2 is poised to be one of Bollywood’s biggest releases of the year. The makers, including Ajay Devgn, Kumar Mangat, and Bhushan Kumar, leave no stone unturned to ensure maximum reach. A source quoted by Pinkvilla revealed, “Ajay Devgn, Kumar Mangat, and Bhushan Kumar are reaching out directly to the audience with the communication of being the next big-ticket releases for the big screen. Being a quintessential Hero vs Villain story, the makers are aiming to reach out to the least common denominator.”

To amplify its visibility, the Raid 2 teaser will be screened alongside Salman Khan’s Sikandar, which is slated to hit theaters on March 30, 2025, during the Eid festivities. This strategic move leverages Salman Khan’s massive Eid audience pull, ensuring that the teaser reaches a wide and diverse crowd. The source added, “While a digital launch will take place towards the end of next week, audiences will get to see it on the big screen from March 30.”

The Raid 2 team has reportedly secured a lucrative deal with multiplex owners to ensure the teaser gets prime visibility across major cinema chains. Additionally, the Key Delivery Message (KDM) for the teaser will be shared with single-screen theater owners, giving them the flexibility to screen it at their discretion. Raid 2: A High-Stakes Hero vs. Villain Showdown Directed by Rajkumar Gupta, Raid 2 is a sequel to the 2018 hit Raid, which saw Ajay Devgn portray the unflinching IRS officer Amay Patnaik. Based on a real-life income tax raid from the 1980s, the first installment was a critical and commercial success. Building on this legacy, Raid 2 promises an even more intense narrative, pitting Ajay Devgn against Riteish Deshmukh in a gripping face-off. Digital Drop and Release Timeline Fans won’t have to wait long to catch a glimpse of Raid 2. The teaser’s digital launch is slated for the end of next week, giving audiences an early taste of the action and drama to come. Following its theatrical screening with Sikandar on March 30, the buildup to the May 1 release is expected to intensify, with a full trailer reportedly dropping by mid-April. What to Expect from Raid 2 Shot across multiple locations including Mumbai, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi, Raid 2 is currently in post-production. The film promises a larger-than-life experience with high-octane action, a complex case, and Ajay Devgn’s signature intensity as Amay Patnaik. As the countdown to Eid begins, Bollywood enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement for both Sikandar and the Raid 2 teaser.

In a recent interview with The Dirty Magazine, acclaimed actor Ali Fazal engaged in a profound discussion with Gillian Anderson, delving into topics such as the historical significance of erotica in India and the societal challenges surrounding women's freedom of expression.

Fazal highlighted India's rich heritage in erotic art and literature, noting, "Erotica is old to India. Of course, now we don't like to even use the word sex before education." Anderson probed deeper into the societal apprehensions, asking, "Where does the fear come from of a woman being able to either speak up or to speak about things that she may want?" In response, Fazal observed, "The men have not been taught to listen. We were never taught to be able to talk to women about what they really want."

The conversation further explored the necessity of advancing cultural perspectives. Anderson remarked, "That's kind of the only way that cultures can move forward, right?" Fazal concurred, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive sex education: "Sex education, right? Have more fun ways to understand what that is, that entire world. I mean, yeah, this is an endless topic. We can just go on and on and on."

This conversation is part of The Dirty Magazine’s Dirty Talks series and marks the final piece in Anderson’s collaboration with the magazine and her platform, G Ode. The discussion centers on the freedom for women to explore, define, and express what they want—whether in the bedroom or the boardroom—and why this conversation must also involve men, particularly in societies where outdated stereotypes still dominate. Fazal, an acclaimed actor, director, activist, and producer of Girls Will Be Girls, shares his perspective on how cultural change can be driven through the arts, aligning with Anderson’s mission to challenge norms and reshape societal narratives.

The much-awaited wedding of television’s beloved couple, Karan Kundrra and Tejasswi Prakash, is finally on the horizon. The couple, who have been dating for quite a few years now, are reportedly set to get married this year. While the reports about their wedding have been doing the rounds for quite some time now, the actress’ mother has dropped a major hint during a recent episode of Celebrity MasterChef, where filmmaker and host Farah Khan directly asked Tejasswi’s mother about their wedding plans.

“Shaadi kab hogi?” (When will the wedding happen?) Farah inquired, to which Tejasswi’s mother responded jokingly, saying, “Issi saal ho jaaegi.” (It will happen this year itself.) However, this comment left fans not only surprised but also delighted as their supporters have been eagerly waiting for the couple’s wedding announcement. As soon as Farah congratulated Tejasswi, the actress, who was visibly blushing, tried to downplay the statement. “Aise kuch baat nahi hui hai,” (Nothing like that has been discussed) she said, attempting to maintain secrecy around their plans.

Interestingly, this statement comes just days after Tejasswi herself hinted at the possibility of a simple court marriage with Karan. While speaking on the same reality show, she shared her personal views on weddings, suggesting that she prefers an intimate and low-key ceremony. “I am not big on that. I am okay with a normal court marriage. Hum log phir ghumenge, phirenge, aish karenge types,” (We will travel, roam around, and enjoy life instead) the Naagin 6 actress had said.

Karan Kundrra and Tejasswi Prakash, fondly known as ‘TejRan’ by their fans, have been one of the most adored couples in the entertainment industry. After meeting on the sets of Bigg Boss 15, the couple have always been in the limelight and have never attempted to hide their relationship. While an official announcement from the couple is still awaited, Tejasswi’s mother’s statement has fueled excitement and speculation about their impending nuptials. Fans now eagerly await the wedding date and further details from the couple themselves.

Filmmaker AR Murugadoss recently opened up about the challenging shooting process of his upcoming film Sikandar, starring Salman Khan. Due to death threats against the Bollywood superstar, the production faced intense security measures, adding to the complexity of filming.

Speaking about the experience, Murugadoss shared, “Salman sir is completely different. The scale of Sikandar was massive, with scenes often involving 10,000 to 20,000 people on set. Managing such large crowds required high security and intense coordination. Our schedule was demanding, and the looming threat made it even more hectic.”

The director further revealed that security protocols were significantly heightened following the threats. “Post that, security was tightened, and checking all extra artistes on set took 2-3 hours daily. Their entries and exits consumed most of our time, often delaying our shoots until the early hours of the morning. Our biological cycles were disrupted, but once we adapted, it became a routine. Despite the challenges, the set maintained a very positive energy,” he added.

Salman Khan has been under constant security threats, leading to heightened protection around him. On November 5, 2024, Mumbai Police received a threatening message allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, demanding that Khan either apologize at their community temple or pay Rs. 5 crore for his safety. Failure to comply, the message warned, would result in his assassination. The situation escalated further in April 2024, when two assailants opened fire outside Khan’s residence in Bandra West. Authorities have been actively investigating these threats to ensure the actor’s safety.

Sikandar, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, is one of the most anticipated films of the year. Alongside Salman Khan, the film features Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, and Prateik Babbar Patil in pivotal roles. The high-octane action drama is slated for release on March 30, 2025.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur recently took to social media to voice his frustration over the unauthorized editing of his iconic 1994 film, Bandit Queen, for its OTT release on Amazon Prime Video. In a series of impassioned posts, Kapur highlighted the painstaking effort that goes into crafting a film, only to see it "carelessly butchered" by an unknown hand for streaming platforms. Fellow filmmaker Hansal Mehta joined the discussion, amplifying Kapur’s concerns, while Sudhir Mishra’s earlier remarks set the stage for this ongoing debate.

The Heart of the Controversy: 'Bandit Queen' Edited Beyond Recognition Kapur’s grievances center on the OTT version of Bandit Queen, a biographical drama based on the life of Phoolan Devi, which he claims has been altered without his consent. In a tweet, he reminisced about the months spent perfecting the film alongside editor Renu Saluja. "The anguish a director and editor go through when editing their films... And then some random person carelessly cuts the film for OTT release?" he wrote, questioning whether the individual responsible considered the love poured into the project, the impact on Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s haunting soundtrack, or the performances delivered under grueling 50-degree heat.

The filmmaker didn’t hold back, pointedly asking, "Did you even think about the love we give for our art?" He tagged peers Sudhir Mishra and Hansal Mehta, signaling a call to action among India’s cinematic community.

The anguish a director and editor go through when editing their films. The days/nights spent arguing, fighting over each edit, each cut. I remember those months with Renu Saluja and myself on #BanditQueen. And then some random person carelessly cuts the film for OTT release? I…

Hansal Mehta’s Response: A Cry for Artistic Integrity Hansal Mehta responded with a scathing critique of the systemic issues plaguing Indian filmmakers. "It is sad to know that a film that should always be India’s pride gets treated this way," he wrote, lamenting the lack of pushback against such practices. Mehta argued that Indian filmmakers have become accustomed to being "slaves of the West," submitting to the whims of streaming platforms without protest. He pointed to the absence of a robust guild or association to protect directors’ rights, noting that existing bodies are more focused on political agendas than safeguarding artistic integrity.

Mehta expressed hope that Kapur’s stature— bolstered by his Padma Bhushan award and global recognition—might spur change. However, he concluded with a grim reflection: "Until then, back to our submissive selves? Members of the new content-driven colony that creates cattle feed to drive subscriptions while fulfilling the artistic ambitions of its Western masters."

It is sad to know that a film that should always be India’s pride gets treated this way. But then what’s new? We’ve become so used to being treated as slaves of the west. No protest. No pushback. Total submission. Because they are doing us a favour. Our integrity as artistes is… — Hansal Mehta (@mehtahansal) March 19, 2025

The Spark: Praise for Netflix’s Adolescence The controversy traces back to Kapur’s earlier praise for Netflix’s British miniseries Adolescence, which he lauded as "next-level storytelling." In a tweet, he wrote, "I’m not the first one to say this but #Adolescence from #Netflix redefines what truly great series can achieve. It defies the regular 3-act structure of cause and effect and plunges you deeply into the minds of the characters."

The post caught the attention of Sudhir Mishra, who responded, "Nobody will let us do something like that. One should do it as an independent film. Something of our own which wanders, then stops, digs, and goes where the smell takes us." This exchange prompted Kapur to reflect on whether he could even make Bandit Queen—a film celebrated for its raw, unfiltered narrative—under today’s OTT landscape.

Nobody will let us do something like that . One should do it as an independent film . Something of our own which is wanders , then stops , digs and goes where the smell takes us . https://t.co/BiHTjrwSfd — Sudhir Mishra (@IAmSudhirMishra) March 18, 2025

A Broader Debate: Creative Freedom in the OTT Era Kapur’s ordeal with Bandit Queen isn’t an isolated incident. The film, which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and was India’s official entry for the Oscars in 1995, has long been a symbol of fearless storytelling. Its gritty depiction of caste violence and sexual oppression stirred controversy upon release, yet it earned global acclaim.

Aamir Khan celebrated his 60th birthday and on this occasion, the Aamir Khan film festival was held in cinemas across the country. As part of the celebrations, his 22 memorable films were re-released - Dangal, 3 Idiots, Lagaan, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Raja Hindustani, Ghajini, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Andaz Apna Apna, Taare Zameen Par, Sarfarosh, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Talaash, Fanaa, Dil Chahta Hai, Dil, PK, Dhoom 3, Rang De Basanti, Ghulam, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Secret Superstar and Laal Singh Chaddha. Dil Chahta Hai was one of the films which was expected to get the maximum footfall due to its comic moments, cult following, music etc. Sadly, very few shows of the film took place across the country, disappointing fans.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Dil Chahta Hai’s shows were available for booking on the ticket booking apps. But its show wasn’t played on the first two days. It is said that the KDM wasn’t issued. A few shows of the film finally played on Sunday post-noon and that’s about it. There was a heavy demand for the film. The theatres had to issue refund to those who booked their tickets. In some cinemas, Taare Zameen Par and other Aamir Khan classics were shown in its place and patrons were given the option to watch those films instead of Dil Chahta Hai. Some agreed but most of them opted for a refund.”

The source continued, “This is the reason why there are no videos on social media of people dancing to ‘Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe’ or ‘Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan’ in the cinema halls, the way it happened with ‘Balam Pichkari’ (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani) or ‘Mahi Ve’ (Kal Ho Naa Ho) because barely any shows were played in the country.”

On the weekdays, no show of Dil Chahta Hai has been scheduled anywhere. Patrons are hoping that it’ll be back in cinemas in the coming weekend. The Aamir Khan festival will go on until March 27.

An industry insider commented, “Not just Dil Chahta Hai but even the other cult film, 3 Idiots, is no longer playing anywhere. On the other hand, films that are not as exciting as these two are playing with multiple shows like Dil, Talaash etc. The organizers should have planned this in a better manner and ensured that films with high demand have daily shows.”

Even Andaz Apna Apna didn’t get many shows but patrons are not complaining as its full-fledged release will be happening in April, as confirmed by Priti Sinha, the daughter of its producer Vinay Sinha.

When Priyanka Chopra Jonas announced her roka with American singer Nick Jonas in 2018, fans were pleasantly surprised. One of India's most beloved stars was set to marry a Hollywood pop sensation. After just a few months of dating, Nick realized Priyanka was the one and proposed in Greece. But before the wedding, he won hearts by asking Priyanka’s mother, Dr. Madhu Chopra, for her hand in marriage in the most respectful and heartfelt way.

In a chat with Filmygyan, Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Madhu Chopra, recalled, “Ek din Nick mujhe bola ki main aapko lunch pe leke jaana chahta hun. Leke gaye lunch pe. Wahan poochne lage ki kaisa ladka aapne socha hai Priyanka ke liye. Maine bataya falana, falana boxes hone chahiye tick. Toh mera haath pakad ke kehta ‘Main woh aadmi hun. Can I be that person? Aur main aapko promise karta hun ek bhi aapka box untick nahi hoga’. I was so like, amazed and unprepared. But I was very happy because itna suthhar ladka (handsome or nice boy) hai. Very like a... describe karna bohot difficult hai, I barely knew him that time but toh bhi ek impression aata hai ki solid hai.”

How adorable is that? Priyanka and Nick’s proposal story is even tied to their matching tattoos. In an interview, Priyanka said, “When he proposed, he asked me, that I checked all his boxes, and would I check another one.”

To mark this milestone, the couple got matching tattoos—Priyanka has a check and a box behind each ear, while Nick has the same design on his arms. Not only did they check each other’s boxes, but Nick also passed the checklist Priyanka’s mother had in mind for her future husband.

Harman Baweja is happy with the super-success of his film Mrs. The Sanya Malhotra starrer has amassed considerable viewership and has also become a huge talking point on the internet. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to the producer about this film and then also about his father, the reputed producer-director Harry Baweja.

Harry Baweja did several memorable films with Ajay Devgn. Since the current trend is to re-release older classics, we asked him if he also plan to bring back his father’s films in cinemas again? Harman Baweja replied, “I have thought about it for sure, of getting Dilwale (1994), Diljale (1996) and Qayamat (2003), the three films of Ajay Devgn back on the big screen. But as of now, there are no concrete plans as such.”

Harman Baweja has spoken about working on Qayamat but his name doesn’t appear in the beginning and end credits. When asked about it, he said, “I used to sit beside my dad’s desk. I was his EA, his PA, his assistant director, assistant producer, production controller and assistant editor. I was the jack of all (laughs). I had just come back from film school and it was my training ground. That was when he was finishing a film named Deewane (2000) after which we got into Qayamat. In between, I produced Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai (2002).”

He continued, “I was in office and I was doing everything that you are supposed to do for those 7 years. Also, when you are working under your dad, no one cares about all these things (being credited). You are training more than anyone. Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai (2002) was one film where I had worked hands-on. I also produced as well as wrote a film called Speed (2007).”

When asked about the bond that Harry Baweja and Ajay Devgn shared, Harry Baweja replied, “They had a great bond and a great understanding. It used to be great seeing them interact. The conversation would be minimal and yet, they would get each other since they had done so many films together. Ajay sir anyway is known to be minimal in his conversation. My dad is also a very to-the-point guy. That’s what they loved about each other – they discussed what they needed to discuss and that was the end of it. Both made some blockbuster films. I hope and pray that one day, I can make such blockbuster films too. If I could pull off half of what my dad did, I’d be a very content man!”

Ajay Devgn is known to be a prankster. Did he play pranks on him too? Harman Baweja laughed and stated, “I was the kid on the set. Also, I was more protected than anyone else. Moreover, my dad was a tough taskmaster. I don’t think anyone had the heart to pull a prank on me. They must be thinking, ‘He’s anyway suffering a lot. His father is making him work like a maniac. Let’s leave him alone and catch someone else’ (laughs).”

When asked about how his father Harry Baweja was doing, Harman Baweja revealed, “He’s good. He’s chilling. I have a son and a daughter. Both are under 2 ½ years of age. He’s enjoying being a grandfather a lot and that makes me happy. He started from scratch, worked all his life and built the banner. At least, now he’s spending time with his grandkids and other extended family members. If I come home late, he now asks me, ‘Have you eaten your dinner? I am like, ‘When was the last time you ever asked me if I ate?’ (laughs)! It was always ‘Kaam khatam kiya ki nahin?’! Now, I see a different side of my father and it's sweet (smiles). It’s also a wholesome experience to watch mom and dad evolve into overtly loving grandparents.”

The fact that Mrs and his other projects have got acclaim must have also made Harry Baweja proud. Harman nodded, “I update my father on everything I am doing. Once or twice, I run him through everything – every song I record and every script we are working on.”

Forthcoming projects

Harman Baweja then shared details about his upcoming The Boy From Andamans. Not much is known about it. Harman said, “That is with Imagine Entertainment; they have made some phenomenal films in the West. Richie Mehta has also come on board. I am very excited about this collaboration. We are trying to break boundaries. It’s a story from India but with Richie’s vision, it just helps as we take this Indian story to the world.”

Will The Boy From Andamans be released on the big screen? He answered, “Yes. I’ll reveal more about it later.”

He’s also excited about Dil Ka Darwaaza Khol Na Darling, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi, Wamiqa Gabbi and Jaya Bachchan. He exulted, “It’s a fun film and has a great star cast. Vikas Bahl is one of the few directors at present who can cut across so many genres. From Shaitaan to Super 30 to Queen, the guy has managed to switch genres successfully. It also has romance apart from comedy and it’s a feel-good film.”

Harman continued, “We also have Maharagni with Kajol. Both these films have been targeted for the big screen. I am also working on a couple more projects which will be announced soon.”

Finally, would he like to act again after his bravura performance in Scoop? Harman Baweja said, “Honestly, I am kind of loving this space I am in right now. In the near future, I want to keep my blinders on and focus on creating beautiful films (smiles).”

Bollywood diva Malaika Arora found herself at the center of an unexpected controversy during the filming of Hip Hop India Season 2. The popular dance reality show, judged by Arora alongside choreographer-director Remo D’Souza, took an awkward turn when a 16-year-old contestant made suggestive gestures toward her during his performance. The incident, which left Malaika visibly uncomfortable, was captured on video and has since gone viral.

What Happened on Hip Hop India Season 2? The incident unfolded during a recent episode of Hip Hop India Season 2, which streams on Amazon MX Player and showcases India’s top hip-hop talent. While judging a contestant’s performance, Malaika noticed the young dancer directing inappropriate gestures her way, including winking and blowing flying kisses. Clearly taken aback, the actress and fitness icon didn’t hold back her disapproval. In the now-viral footage, she can be heard reprimanding the teenager, sternly demanding, “Mummy ka phone number do!” (Give me your mother’s phone number!).

Malaika’s reaction was laced with disbelief as she questioned the audacity of the 16-year-old contestant. “He is winking. He is giving flying kisses,” she exclaimed, highlighting her discomfort with his behavior. The moment quickly escalated into a teaching opportunity, with Malaika addressing the inappropriateness of his actions, especially given his young age.

Renowned filmmaker Imtiaz Ali recently opened up on the underwhelming performance of Love Aaj Kal (2020), starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan, during an insightful conversation on the YouTube channel Game Changer. The director candidly admitted to missteps in the film’s execution, offering a glimpse into his creative process and the lessons he’s taken from the experience.

Love Aaj Kal Lost Its Ease In the interview, Imtiaz acknowledged that he tried to pack too much into Love Aaj Kal, a successor to his 2009 hit of the same name starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. “I could have done 2-3 things differently,” he confessed, noting that the film’s ambitious scope compromised its simplicity. “The ease of the film was compromised. It became thick, people didn’t understand what happened. It seemed like this didn’t come from the heart,” he explained. This lack of clarity, he believes, left audiences disconnected from the narrative—a stark contrast to the effortless charm of his earlier works.

The director also pointed out a critical flaw: the film lacked freshness. Despite featuring a new story and a younger cast in Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan—two actors riding high on popularity at the time—Love Aaj Kal failed to capture the magic of its predecessor or resonate with viewers. Released on Valentine’s Day 2020, the film received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office, marking a rare stumble in Imtiaz’s otherwise celebrated career. No Blame on Kartik and Sara Notably, Imtiaz refrained from attributing the film’s failure to its lead actors. Kartik Aaryan, fresh off successes like Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, and Sara Ali Khan, who had debuted with Kedarnath, were seen as a promising pair, especially amid rumors of their off-screen romance during filming. However, Imtiaz’s critique focused solely on his directorial choices rather than the performances of his cast.

Delving deeper, Imtiaz shared his thoughts on the challenges of making sequels. “Whenever a sequel is made, there must be a strong reason behind it,” he remarked. While he believed he had a compelling new story for Love Aaj Kal, he admitted that he failed to communicate its essence effectively—particularly during the film’s promotional phase. “In a way, yes. Though I had a new story in Love Aaj Kal 2, still, the film didn’t work,” he said. This realization has made him wary of revisiting his past successes unless the justification is undeniable. “Unless it is really necessary, I am not interested in making sequels,” he added.

That said, Imtiaz left the door ajar for future possibilities, hinting at a potential exception. “But never say never—Rockstar 2 may be nice,” he concluded with a glimmer of optimism, sparking curiosity among fans of his 2011 cult classic starring Ranbir Kapoor.

The re-release era is going on in full force and films of various genres are coming back on the big screen. Most of the re-releases are not getting the desired response. Yet, the trend continues, more so after the surprise success of films like Rockstar, Laila Majnu, Tumbbad, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and above all, Sanam Teri Kasam, which is the highest re-release grosser. Now, it has come to light that one more film is getting ready to be back in cinemas – Hunterrr (2015).

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Hunterrr will complete 10 years on March 20. The film has a recall value due to its subject, sex scenes, performances and ensemble cast. Hence, the makers are planning to re-release the film on this joyous occasion.”

The source continued, “Once the plan is confirmed, the makers will look for an apt release date. It now remains to be seen if it arrives this Friday – March 20 – or on a later date.”

An industry insider commented, “Until now, family-friendly films have mainly got a re-release. Very few ‘A’ rated films have had a re-run like Sarfarosh, Satya, Gangs Of Wasseypur, Ghulam, etc. Moreover, Hunterrr stands out from these adult films as it’s a sex comedy. In fact, this genre hasn’t produced any significant film in a long time and there’s an audience for it. Hence, it won’t be a surprise if Hunterrr also becomes a sleeper re-release success.”

Hunterrr starred Gulshan Devaiah, Radhika Apte, Sai Tamhankar and Veera Saxena and was about a sex addict man and his various adventures. It was directed by Harshvardhan Kulkarni, who later made Badhaai Do (2022).

Meanwhile, this Friday saw the re-release of memorable Aamir Khan films like 3 Idiots, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Dangal, Dhoom 3, Dil, Dil Chahta Hai, Fanaa, Ghajini, Ghulam, Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Laal Singh Chaddha, Lagaan, PK, Raja Hindustani, Rang De Basanti, Sarfarosh, Taare Zameen Par, Talaash etc. The Aamir Khan film festival has been held to celebrate the superstar’s 60th birthday. Next week will see the re-release of Yaariyan (2014). Half Girlfriend (2017) is expected to be released in April. Awarapan (2007) and Aashiqui 2 (2013) are also in the queue to arrive in cinemas again. Bollywood Hungama broke the news a few days back that Sanjay Dutt-starrer Jung (2000) will re-release on May 9 to coincide with its 25th anniversary.

Sonam Nair’s Amazon Prime Video show Dupahiya has been getting a positive response from the audiences and critics alike. Starring Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, Sparsh Shrivastava, Bhuvan Arora and Shivani Raghuvanshi, it is a humorous show set in a village. Nair talks about the show and more in an interview with us.

From Gippi (2013) to Dupahiya, you have come a very long way. Has it been an arduous journey?

It has had its ups and downs, but I can safely say I always stuck to my guns, and worked on projects that I felt passionate about instead of chasing stars or budgets. A slow and steady approach pays off better in the end, I feel. And the ride has been rewarding.

How did Dupahiya come your way?

Shubh and Salona, our producers and co-creators, reached out to me for the project. The script was almost all done, and had been developed at Amazon Prime already. It was a gift that was handed to me, and I’ll always be grateful. Especially because no one was thinking of me for such projects before, figuring I could only do urban setups and women-led projects. Shubh and Salona knew that I could balance quirky humour with emotions and thankfully reached out.

Were you at all familiar with the Bihari milieu?

The exact milieu wasn’t familiar to me, but I have grown up in a very small town in Bengal called Rishra. So, the first eighteen years of my life were very simple and peaceful, away from any hustle-bustle. Somewhere, I was craving that again when this project came to me, and took me back to the simple joys of life. We did grow up with quite a few Bihari neighbours around us, as Bengal is close to Bihar. But for this particular dialect we hired a coach who not only trained all the actors, but trained me too.

The humour and the plot is so fertile and original, how closely did you work with the writers in getting there?

That is all credit to the writers Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg, and the guiding hands of Shubh and Salona. When the script came to me, it was 90 percent done. I just came my small inputs as a director, just asked them to edit or shuffle around a few things. When you’re already handed gold, you don’t want to mess with it. I was blown away by how fresh the script was.

The actors are mostly bang on. How on earth did you zero in on these irreplaceables?

We got very lucky with our cast, I have to agree. I have never worked with such a talented ensemble before where we just can’t choose who has done the best job. They’re all so good! Our casting director Romil was a huge boon as he had access to some of the most terrific actors from the heartland. For the primary casting, besides the obvious parameters of everyone fitting their roles and having some good work behind them, I had two parameters. One was that whoever we cast must be as excited about this script and project as I am. I didn’t want anyone who is doing this as just another job. And the second was that they have to be good human beings. Once these two things are sorted, I knew the audience would he happy because we were all happy making it. Rest was just on instinct, really.

Was it tough acclimatizing yourself to the characters’ milieu and language?

All the actors did about two months of dialect coaching, and I sat for almost all those sessions with the actors. So, that I could just inhale the dialect and even start thinking in it. By the time we got to shoot, I knew the dialect and then the challenge was to make it authentic but also accessible to the rest of the audience, who are Hindi speaking. As far as village life goes, we really took notes in prep during our visits to the different villages in MP and UP, where we shot the series, pertaining to production design, costumes, props, etc. However, because this village was supposed to be the ‘Belgium of Bihar’, we definitely chose to make the village look aspirational and vibrant.

How do you respond to the comparisons with Panchayat?

We are all very flattered by the comparison, as to be compared to one of the most successful and loved shows on OTT is a big compliment. We’ll be more than happy to have the Panchayat fans come and watch our show. Amazon Prime will have to decide about a second season, but I know I would love to return to Dhadakpur. In the meantime, I’m developing a few ideas. Though I want to take in all the learnings from Dupahiya post release, and only then decide which way to go next.

Expanded Screen Time and Action as Ashwatthama A source close to the production revealed, “He begins shooting in May, and his screen time has been increased. Filming is expected to continue till June 15.” Bachchan, who portrayed the immortal Ashwatthama from the Indian epic Mahabharata in the first film, will dive deeper into the character in Kalki 2. The insider added, “As Bachchan plays an immortal being, he will also be seen doing more action with weapons.”

The sequel will pick up from the events of Kalki 2898 AD (2024), focusing on Ashwatthama’s journey alongside Bhairava/Karna (Prabhas) as they work to rescue Sumathi’s (Deepika Padukone) unborn child. The stakes are higher this time, with the duo facing off against the sinister Supreme Commander Yaskin, played by Kamal Haasan. “It will be grander than the last one as Prabhas and Bachchan also confront the evil Yaskin. So, three titans will clash,” the source teased. New Worlds and Tribes in Kalki 2 Kalki 2 is set to expand the universe introduced in the first film with the addition of a fourth world, Flux Lands, and a new tribe called the Nomens. While a 30-day filming schedule was completed last year, the team still has significant action portions left to shoot. A massive set has been constructed on the outskirts of Hyderabad, where the crew will film key sequences. Notably, the first film was shot in Shankarpally, and this time, the production is scaling up for an even more ambitious vision. The Diplomat has released today in cinemas and is the grand Holi release of the year. It stars John Abraham and Sadia Khateeb in leading roles and is inspired by true events. When moviegoers venture out to see this acclaimed film, they’ll be surprised to see blockbuster producer Dinesh Vijan being mentioned in the opening slate under ‘Special Thanks’. Bollywood Hungama decided to find out the reason behind it. Turns out that there’s a Chhaava connection to it.

Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to The Diplomat’s director Shivam Nair and asked him the reason behind Dinesh Vijan’s mention. He replied, “He is mentioned because he agreed to attach the teaser as well as the trailer of The Diplomat with Chhaava. He agreed to do so at John’s request. John then asked me to thank Dinesh Vijan in the film in the opening disclaimer.”

Shivam Nair added, “We were very excited about Chhaava. We knew that it was a film which was surely going to work. Hence, it was the perfect film to showcase our assets.”

Chhaava was released on February 14, that is, exactly a month before The Diplomat. Coming back to The Diplomat, it is based on the life of Uzma Ahmed and how she got trapped in Pakistan. How India’s High Commission helps her forms the crux of the film.
