Late filmmaker Guru Dutt’s sister Lalitha Lajmi, noted painter, has passed away at the age of 90. The news of her demise was shared by the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) on Monday. "With Profound grief and sorrow NGMA, Mumbai, Ministry of Culture, Government of India shares the news of demise of veteran artist and printmaker Smt. Lalitha Lajmi who left for heavenly abode this morning (13.02.2023). Our Deepest Condolences. RIP," NGMA wrote in the post on Twitter. The note read, “Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India , we were honoured to present "The Minds Cupboard" - a retrospective of Lalitha Ji's large body of work at the NGMA on January 12th, 2023.” “Lalitha Lajmi was born to a poet father and a poly-linguist writer mother in Kolkata in 1932. Coming from a family involved in the arts, Lajmi was very fond of classical dance and painting. She found her calling in painting. An unparalleled watercolourist, through her works she narrates a layered history of the modem Indian woman in the decades that followed Independence. Often her vvorks reflect the hidden tensions that exist between men and women, captured in the different roles they play. Yet, her women are not meek individuals, but assertive and individualistic, with a strong autobiographical element. Lalitha Ji was a regular at all our NGMA opening receptions and we will miss her gracious presence,” the note concluded. Lalitha Lajmi’s last work The Mind's Cupboard is on exhibition at the NGMA in Mumbai till February 26, 2023.

The makers decided to up the Valentine’s day celebrations by launching the romantic track of the film during the week. And hence they announced the release of the song on the sets of Bigg Boss 16, which is hosted by the superstar. With the release of his most recent talk show, The Invincibles, actor-producer Arbaaz Khan is becoming more well-known. The six-part talk series' guest is Javed Akhtar. He is renowned for being straightforward in life, recently shared his secret to quitting drinking. When probed about his former binge drinking during a conversation with Arbaaz Khan on Bollywood Bubble, the author revealed that he thought he would have had an untimely death if he hadn't controlled his alcoholism. Javed admitted that he did not drink to drown his grief but rather for enjoyment. He said, “I drank because I enjoyed it. It was a pleasure. I was not drowning any sorrow in it. But I understood one thing; common sense dictates that with this kind of drinking I would die by 52-53. Javed acknowledged that he drank a large bottle of rum on July 31 and stopped drinking entirely on August 1. He continued by saying that in all those years, he had never even sampled champagne. When Arbaaz praised his resolve, Javed remarked, “Willpower is nothing. It is the intensity of desire.” According to him the biggest addiction is living and there is no bigger addiction than that. In a 2012 episode of Aamir Khan's Satyameva Jayate, Javed Akhtar talked openly about his battle with drinking. He said, “I started drinking at a very young age of 19. When I came to Bombay (now Mumbai) after completing my graduation I started drinking with friends and later it became a habit. Earlier I didn’t have enough money, but then after my success, money flow was also taken care of. Veteran actor Neena Gupta claims that four decades after beginning her career, she has now reached a point where producers see her as a bankable performance. After the box office success of her 2018 film Badhaai Ho, Gupta's career took a turn for the better. In a recent interview Neena spoke about getting leading lady roles in her sixties being a huge thing for her. Neena told PTI, “This is a big deal for me. This is what I wanted throughout my career. You need that break where your film, in which you have a pivotal role, becomes a hit. That never happened to me in films, it happened on TV. When Badhaai Ho, in which I had a solid role, became successful, things changed. Then suddenly I became a very good actor. My market value rose. It is a business... If your market value is good then you will get lead roles.” After making her film debut in 1982 with Saath Saath, starring Farooque Shaikh and Deepti Naval, Gupta claimed she had expected filmmakers to line up outside her home. However, fate had different ideas for her. She didn't achieve her goal of being a heroine, and for the majority of her career, she was cast in minor parts. She said, “There was a desire and dream... Like in Saath Saath, although I had a small comic role, I would think I have done such a good job that people would queue up outside my house (to work with me). But it is a different business. You cannot do a small comedy part in a film and expect to become a heroine because there is a thappa (tag) on you for small parts. We would yearn to get a good part and I never got it.” Gupta claimed that, whether in commercial or independent film, it was challenging to land main roles during the 1980s and 1990s based only on talent. She thinks the majority of the directors sought out saleable faces when casting. “There was no chance of meeting the producer and director in commercial cinema. There was this parallel cinema and there again the main roles were going to Shabana (Azmi), Smita (Patil) and if it's a small (film), then Deepti (Naval). We had no chance in these films also. Shyam (Benegal) never gave me a major role. I have always played smaller parts in his films. So, the situation was similar in commercial cinema. It is a business, they want to take a saleable face," said the actor. Gupta stated that as an actor, her current objective is to act as a bridge between mainstream and independent cinema. She makes it clear that she is not choosing any conventional mother roles. “I say no to stereotypical roles. And no mother roles. It is good that people are looking at women in different spaces," she said. Meanwhile, on the professional front, Neena last appeared in Shiv Shastri Balboa starring alongside Anupam Kher in the lead role. It also featured actors like Jugal Hansraj, Nargis Fakhri, and Sharib Hashmi. The film hit the theatres on February 10. When asked how excited is he to be at Mumbai Comic Con, the actor told Bombay Times, “I’m super excited because it’s been a while since I attended one. I came here years ago with my brother who’s a huge Marvel fan. The energy and frenzy is bringing back a lot of memories from my college days.” The actor also revealed who has been his favourite superheroes over the years, he said, “I’m a big fan of the X-Men series... especially Wolverine. I used to watch its animated series after school every day. Another favourite is Batman, I love the series Batman of the Future. I am waiting for DC to make a film on that soon.” Further Siddhant went down memory lane and recollected his childhood memories from the time his fascination for superheroes and comics began. He said, “When I was younger, I used to travel to my native place, Ballia (in Uttar Pradesh) a lot. On the way, I would buy Raj comics at the train station. Indian superheroes like Doga, Nagraj and super commando Dhruva became my heroes, before any of the rest came along. I still have a collection of these comic books and they are my most prized possessions and memories. I also have a soft corner for Shaktimaan. If given an opportunity, I would love to play masked vigilante Doga on screen. It’s my childhood dream. I am also drawn to Chakra from the Marvel universe, who’s an Indian character. I’m hoping that they make a film on him, and cast an Indian actor.” When Siddhant was asked if he were to possess a super power, what would that be, he replied, “I would love to be blessed with the power of teleportation! Young Bollywood star Bhumi Pednekar is one of the most sought after actors in the Hindi film industry because of her towering performances in every film that she has done so far. I believed that he loved me and will keep me happy for long life.” “At that time, he did not even had money for food hence I and his brother Mr.Shamas-Uddin managed everything without any personal benefit. Then we got married in the year 2010 and post 1year I deliver a child. Known for some of the biggest chartbusters in Hindi cinema, the musical duo of Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani hit jackpot with Pathaan. Readers, by now, would be aware that the film is doing record-breaking business at the box office and its songs, ‘Besharam Rang’ as well as ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’, which are picturized on Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, have topped the global charts. Describing the feeling, the musician-composer duo Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar recall moments of how the film’s success have impacted them in this exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama. Musician-singer Vishal Dadlani described the madness and how love and appreciation are pouring on from all quarters in the society. He told Bollywood Hungama, “This is a legit celebration. In all our careers, we have done so many films and still, we have never seen anything like this. This has happened for the first time.” However, Sheykhar joked about it adding, “You should have said humne banayi hai picture. Woh Siddharth Anand hai na, woh music director hai. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap remarked about his experience working with Abhishek Bachchan, saying that the actor has evolved dramatically in the years since his debut. Anurag collaborated with Abhishek as a dialogue writer in Mani Ratnam's film Yuva, and then directed Abhishek in Manmarziyaan, and had noticed a massive change in him. Anurag recalled anecdotes of working with Amitabh Bachchan in an interview with The Lallantop, which prompted him to discuss Abhishek. Amitabh, he claimed, was always open to constructive criticism and a man of his word. In an interview with The Lallantop, Anurag Kashyap stated, “We (Abhishek and Anurag) worked together on Yuva. I wrote the dialogues for that film. My brother was also an AD on it, and we worked quite a bit with Abhishek on the dubbing of that film as well... He’s a very hard-working person. He’s cultured, loves food. But he was very brattish in the beginning. He’d make fun of everything, not take things seriously. But people grow, and he grew. That Abhishek and the Abhishek I worked with on Manmarziyaan are two entirely different people.” Speaking of Amitabh, Anurag highlighted the actor's reaction to being requested to tone down the Amitabh Bachchan-ness of his portrayal in Yudh. When the song ‘Besharam Rang’ from Pathaan was released in last December, it gradually because a topic of controversy. A section of the netizens were offended to see Deepika Padukone, who appears in the song, in orange swimsuit. A few politicians even went on record to state their offence on the visuals of the song. However, the controversy slowly died down and the song started gaining appreciation. And by the time Pathaan released and instantly became a rage world over, ‘Besharam Rang’ got transformed into an anthem, not just in India but also abroad. In an exclusive video interview with Bollywood Hungama, the film’s music composers Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani, popularly known as Vishal-Sheykhar, got candid about the film’s music. They revealed that ‘Besharam Rang’ was the first song they composed for Pathaan. During the course of the conversation, Vishal asked Sheykhar, “I think we did ‘Besharam Rang’ first na?” To this, his partner replied, “Yeah, that was the first song.” After the release of the song, Vishal had shared his thoughts behind its making saying, “‘Besharam Rang’ is a unique song. It is a confluence of genres that makes it very exciting musically. It is almost an old-school melody paired with a modern beat that is influenced by Afro beat but is electronic. What I love most is how a true melody transcends language, because while (singer) Shilpa (Rao) is singing it, it sounds like a very traditional Indian melody and (singer) Caralisa (Monteiro) and I are singing a Spanish version of that melody and it sounds authentic there too.” Meanwhile, Pathaan is still going strong at the box office and is now in the race to reach the mammoth number of Rs 500 crores nett in India. Film producer Nazim Hassan Rizvi passed away late on Monday in a hospital in Mumbai due to certain health issues. He was recently admitted in the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri, Mumbai for undisclosed ailments, as reported by the news agency IANS (Indo Asian News Service). Rizvi’s mortal remains were flown to his native place in Uttar Pradesh, where his last rites will be performed. Rizi is known the most for producing the Salman Khan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta starrer Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, which was directed by the Abbas-Mustan duo. Some of his other Bollywood films as a producer include Majboor Ladki, Apaatkaal, Angaar Vadee, Undertrial, for which he also wrote the screenplay, and Hello Hum Lallan Bol Rahe Hain. Rizi also tried his hand at direction in the Marathi movie Laden Aala Re Aala. Starring Vijay Patkar and Saksham Kulkarni, he also wrote the writer and producer of this movie. He was associated with the Bollywood movie Qasam Se Qasam Se only as one of the writers.

On Koffee With Karan last year, Kiara revealed that she and Sidharth met for the first time after the wrap-up party of the 2018 Netflix film, Lust Stories. She starred in Karan Johar’s film from the anthology Lust Stories. Recalling the time, she said, “Sid and I know each other from before we were cast in Shershaah.” Karan Johar revealed, “Yes, much before”, to which Kiara said, “Yes at the wrap party of Lust Stories which we crashed.” Karan further added, “We crashed a friend’s house and the cast of Lust Stories as we had and Sid also came to the party and that’s where you and Sid met for the first time.” In another episode of KWK last year, Karan asked Sidharth about his Shershaah co-star and girlfriend Kiara Advani, and whether he has plans to marry her. Sidharth dodged the question and said, “I am manifesting a happier and brighter future.” When asked, “With Kiara?” Sidharth smiled as he answered, “If it was her, it would be great.” On the work front, Kiara Advani was last seen in Govinda Naam Mera. Farzi is your first foray into the OTT space. How would you describe the experience? Is it any different from doing the films for the big screen? I’m very excited to be doing my OTT debut, as everybody calls it. I think I did it because I love the directors Raj and DK and their work, and I actually really, really liked the idea and the concept behind Farzi, the world of counterfeiting. I felt Sunny was a character that was as challenging as some of my most challenging characters as I’ve done yet. So I immediately wanted to do it. And was it any different shooting for an OTT series? Of course, it’s different because you’re watching the character over five to six hours as opposed to maybe two to two and a half hours. So it’s a deeper, wider opportunity to bring a character to life, that’s it. Farzi gave you the opportunity to work with the great Vijay Sethupathi and also the creators Raj and DK. So what was that experience like? With Raj and DK, I’ve loved Family Man very much and we’ve met over time and always wanted to collaborate. So I was really looking forward to it. In fact, I asked them if they have a show because they were calling me for a movie because they didn’t really expect… they didn’t think after Kabir Singh, I’d like to do something like that, or whatever. But I actually asked them for it and probed for it, and then they actually told me about this concept which we had discussed as a movie earlier. So why was the feature film converted into a digital series? It was just too elaborate to turn into a movie, to fit into a movie. It was only extremely sensible of them to turn it into a show because it deserves that much screen time. What was it like working with Vijay Sethupathi? With Vijay sir, it’s been a pleasure. And I want to see how people receive the show. He’s a fantastic actor who has always rediscovered himself and given people completely different experiences when he has come on the big screen. So it’s a privilege to have him on the show. And I had a blast working with him. Shahid, it’s been twenty years since you started as a leading man. How do you look back on your career so far? I feel very fortunate to still be here. And I feel grateful that people find my work relevant. I feel there’s a lot more that I would like to do. And I think I am as charged as I was at the age of 21, giving my first shot, as I am today. And I think that’s the best part of the entire journey, that I still am as excited and as curious to get on that film floor and give my next shot. I think that’s what drives any artist. Tell me about your forthcoming projects? I’ve got Farzi coming out on February 10. And then there’s a movie with Ali Abbas Zafar, which is an action thriller, a slick action fun film, which will come out in the middle of this year. And then there’s a high-concept quirky love story that I’m doing with Maddock Films, which is directed by a new director. His name is Amit Joshi. It has me and Kriti Sanon in it, and Dharam ji and Dimple ma’am and various other very talented people. Late Sridevi-starrer English Vinglish will be released in China on February 24 to mark the fifth death anniversary of the actress. The Bollywood movie, directed by Gauri Shinde, will be screened in 6,000 theatres in the country. The film premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, followed by a theatrical release on October 5, 2012, in India. As per a report in Hindustan Times, Kumar Ahuja, COO of Eros International, said in a statement, “Indian films have gradually gained a foothold in the competitive Chinese movie market, the second biggest in the world. We have seen a rising demand for Indian films in China Mainland, especially the ones which are culturally driven. We are excited for the audience in China to marvel at this masterpiece showcasing one of the most memorable performances by the late Bollywood superstar Sridevi.” English Vinglish is a story about a housewife and caterer, Shashi, who is often made fun of by her family for not knowing English. She goes on to learn the language and in her attempt, she discovers more about herself and values her life as a wife and a mother. Sridevi passed away on February 24, 2018, in Dubai. She was found dead in the washroom of her hotel room. She was in Dubai to attend the wedding of her nephew Mohit Marwah. Married to producer Boney Kapoor, the couple have two daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Nushrratt Bharuccha is all set to headline another solo lead project Akelli. Well, prior to this, she had the solo lead in Chhorii 1 & will also be seen in the sequel. While the second part is yet to release, the first part of Chhorii became one of the most critically acclaimed projects of her. Taking to social media, she shared a sneak peek into the shooting of Akelli on her social media. Akelli is helmed by Pranay Meshram, who has worked as an associate director for various projects and will debutant as a director with this film. The film is produced by Dashami Studioz' Nitin Vaidya, Ninad Vaidya, Aparna Padgaonkar along with Vicky Sidana & Shashant Shah. Ever since its release, the promo of Shrenu Parikh starrer Maitree captured everyone’s attention. The glimpses of the show featured her as the best friend of Bhaweeka Chaudhary and showed a drastic change in their relationship with their bond going sour. However, while many fans were afraid that the show will feature yet another love triangle between Shrenu and Bhaweeka, especially considering that it featured one of them in a wedding attire and the other as a married woman, Shrenu clarified to Bollywood Hungama that it is not one. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Shrenu Parikh stated, “After the fire-wala promo released, people got a clarity on what the show is about because initially they imagined that it's going to be a typical triangle.” For the unversed Zaan Khan will be introduced as the love interest of Maitree aka Shrenu Parikh. Further talking about female bonds and friendships, the actress opened up on how everyone can resonate with the show, “Not just me there but there will be a lot of girls who will resonate with Maitree because we do have best friends and we do go to an extreme extent for them. Shah Rukh Khan – Deepika Padukone – John Abraham starrer Pathaan has become the highest-grossing film worldwide, thereby surpassing Dangal. The film has also breached Rs. 400 crore nett in India, the first Hindi film to do so in the history of Hindi cinema. As the film continues its run in theatres with the audience celebrating the win, actor Prakash Raj says that the boycott calls that were made prior to the release were just people barking. At the Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters in Kerala, Raj said, “They wanted to ban Pathaan. It’s doing Rs. 700 crore. These idiots, bigots…who wanted to ban Pathaan, did not run Modi’s film (PM Narendra Modi) for Rs. 30 crore. They are just you know… barking, won’t bite. Sound pollution.” The actor then went onto criticize Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files saying, “Kashmir Files is one of the nonsense films, but we know who produced it. Shameless. International jury spits on them. The director is asking why I am not getting Oscar. He will not even get a Bhaskar. I tell you because there is a sensitive media out there. Here you can do a propaganda film. According to my sources, they have invested around Rs. 2000 crore to only make films like this. But you can’t fool people all the time.” The actor attended the festival as one of the speakers along with Kabir Bedi, Amitav Ghosh and Sudha Murthy. Another Bollywood pair is getting hitched today. Shershaah co-stars Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, who have been quietly dating for a couple of years, are all set to tie the knot on February 7. The bride-to-be Kiara reached Suryagarh Palace on February 4 afternoon ahead of the wedding festivities. She was joined by designer Manish Malhotra. Sidharth Malhotra and his family reached Jaisalmer on Saturday evening whereas several celebrities reached on Sunday. It seems like the wedding festivities began on February 5. On Monday, the mehendi ceremony was lit by DJ Ganesh, Mishaal Advani, and Hari-Sukhmani who entertained the guests. Reports suggest both Sidharth and Kiara set the dance floor on fire with their performances. Both families put up performances during the ceremony. More than 100 dishes from 10 countries will be served at the wedding. The menu reportedly includes Italian, Chinese, American, South Indian, Mexican, Rajasthani, Punjabi, and Gujarati cuisines. It is also being reported that Jaisalmer’s Ghotwan Ladoo are being served amongst the sweets. Sidharth Malhotra has ensured special care for the guests who arrived from Delhi and Punjab. Bollywood Hungama reported on Saturday that Kiara Advani’s brother Mishaal Advani is set to perform a special song for the couple. “As it is known that Kiara is very close to her brother Mishaal, the latter has made a song for the Shershaah pair. He will perform it during the sangeet ceremony.” Mishaal is a rapper, composer and music producer and he released his first track ‘Know My Name’ in November 2022.
