Designers Paras and Shalini of ‘Geisha Designs’ are known for their ultra-glam creations each season. Their cocktail and evening wear 2024 collection called “Profusion” at Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI, unveiled textures that will enchant the Indian and global buyers.  The ‘Geisha Designs’ label launched in 2001 retails from 200 high end stores across India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, USA, Europe, and South Africa as they have mastered the art of re-creating traditional Indian silhouettes that reflect old world romantic looks.

The “Profusion” collection was a harmonic tapestry of nature’s symphony of clothes that would fit the requirements of not only festive couture but also occasion wear and luxury resort creations. The inspiration was the multitude of colours seen in crystallised stones. So, there was a palette of fuchsia, jade, aqua, blush, pale blue, deep blue, and lilac that was sprinkled through the collection. There was a kaleidoscopic, poetic merger between the vibrant tones and the many textures for the ensembles. It was an amazing concept that projected a perfect harmony of hues that turned into a fashionable symphony when icy cool blue shades moved in unison with the brilliance of metallic designs.

The “Profusion” collection had a creative fashion stanza of sheer poetry, which was in the language of threads, beads and intricate designs as the ensembles proved to be a bouquet of stylish dreams. There was marked evidence of delicate embroidery, striking textures vibrant motifs and immaculate construction. The silhouettes moved seamlessly from modern reinterpretations of drapes that at times offered a new twist of inspiration for the traditional sari. Evening wear moved from lush creations with intricate embellishments, to creatively constructed ensembles with just the right amount of elegance.  The one-shouldered gown with an ornate bodice flowed into a dramatic sheer floor sweeping ensemble, while the swirls of the embroidery caressed and flowed down the will-power evening gown.

In a beautiful co-ord ensemble that shimmered and captivated the eye, Alaya F dazzled the audience as the showstopper for Geisha Designs by Paras and Shalini at Lakme Fashion Week 2023. She made a bold statement as she became the star of Geisha Designs by Paras and Shalini's runway appearance at Lakme Fashion Week by showcasing her boss lady flair. The 'Nocturnal Enigma: The Tassel Tempest Ensemble' from the brand's most recent 'Profusion' collection was worn by Alaya F. She is wearing a matching bralette top and trousers with abstract beaded embroidery. Pink lips, sparkly eyes, coral blush, and highlighter all complemented Alaya's outfit's dark tint.

Malavika has always attracted attention with her slinky gowns and stunning ethnic looks, and this time she is putting on a show with a statement look.

Malavika Mohanan is accustomed to being in the spotlight for her style. Her off-screen fashion consistently makes news. She is a fashion icon in her own right, with a frame that can pull off any dress and a perfect sense of style. Her outfits while on vacation certainly scream celebratory fashion goals. Malavika's most recent appearance from her adventure in London is stunning. She radiated effortless chic in a white crop top with a deep V-neckline. She added a touch of sophistication by wearing a full-sleeved black coat over her top and a short black leather skirt. Malavika chose a simple chain, open hairstyle, and a "no-makeup" makeup appearance. But hold on! Veteran actress Ratna Pathak Shah, who is promoting her upcoming film Dhak Dhak, recently spoke about the lack of senior female actors in the film industry and how it made her feel that this career had a shelf life. In a conversation recently, she talked about how they felicitated someone as senior as Waheeda Rehman with a prestigious award but she doesn’t get the offers she deserves.

Waheeda Rehman, who was last seen in The Song of Scorpion, was recently felicitated with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. In a conversation with Film Companion, Ratna Pathak Shah said, “When I see a Meryl Streep and a Helen Mirren, I feel if they can do it, so can I. And I'm sorry that a Waheeda Rehman in our country doesn't get the parts that she deserves. What a fabulous woman, and what a fabulous actress she is! All they want to do is give her a little award and stick her in one corner. Really? Give her a good role for Christ's sake. Keep the award.”

Ratna Pathak added, “All of us have had to come to terms with the way we look. And the fact that your body is changing. And if I don't want to fiddle with it too much, I need to accept what I am. The most revealing thing to me, as stupid as it seems considering who my mother was (Dina Pathak), that I thought acting has a shelf life, as a woman. That I'll act until I'm pretty, and then I'll do something else. I can't imagine I thought like that, but I did.”

Meanwhile, Dhak Dhak releases in cinemas on Friday, October 13. ALSO READ: Dhak Dhak Trailer: Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, Sanjana Sanghi and Fatima Sana Shaikh embark on a biking expedition to Khardung La, watch

When he left his job in a private company in Kolkata to go to Mumbai to become a film actor, Amitabh Bachchan took his driver’s licence along in case he needed to forget his celluloid dreams and come down-to-earth to make a living driving a taxi.

Today 54 years after he made his acting debut in K.A. Abbas’ Saat Hindustani, Mr Bachchan is regarded as the single-most influential star-actor of the Indian cinema.

If his Angry Young Man persona revolutionized the image of the Hindi film hero in the 1970s and 80s, his miraculous makeover in the new millennium as the host of India’s most avidly watched television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati and as the seasoned trouper in Yash Chopra’s Mohabbatein, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Aks, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black, Shoojit Sircar’s Piku, and Aniruddha Bhattacharya’s Pink has left all cynics and disbelievers agape.

Looking back on his career we see the Allahabad-born Amitabh Bachchan’s sustained and unparalleled superstardom as a triumph of gentlemanly intelligence over the habitual games of one-upmanship that are played in the film industry.

Being the son of the distinguished poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, how did the Superstar adjust to the crude and often deleterious atmosphere of showbiz?

Here’s what he had to say in a past interview to this writer: “Once I decided to be part of the acting profession and accepted that one has occasionally to behave in an outlandish fashion for the camera, I tried to overcome my inhibitions. I must admit I was a little apprehensive about it all when I entered the profession. I went back to my father in Delhi and told him about my reservations. He said, ‘Well you must follow Balraj Sahni’s pattern of working. He was in the film industry and yet outside it’. Balraj ji and my father were very good friends. I realized there was no point in getting disturbed by the dichotomies that existed not only in the acting profession but in all walks of life.”

Having spent most of his adult life in the film industry, Bachchan Saab had only words of appreciation for the industry. “I’m proud to say most of my friends are from the film industry and I enjoy their company. The film industry is a wonderful place. It has given me no reason to feel negatively about it. Everything depends on the way you conduct yourself and what you want your relationship with your profession to be. You can go berserk or stay calm and sober. It’s your choice entirely,” he once said.

About the wonderful career choices AB had said, “You are always on your own. Sometimes, you get good opportunities, not just in films but in other walks of life as well. You could be the son of a successful businessman taking up the business empire. That’s a hereditary advantage which I never had.”

Aamir Khan has been a name synonymous with Indian cinema for a long time, but with his most recent interview, he stole the spotlight not as the unparalleled actor he is but as a father, as the superstar opened up on his experience with fatherhood at a conclave with a news channel. During the interview, the actor also opened up about his eldest child, Junaid Khan who is all set to make his own debut in Bollywood. But, before his acting debut, Junaid Khan will turn producer with Pritam Pyaare in which Aamir will have a special appearance.

Speaking to News 18, Aamir Khan said, "Junaid is now entering Bollywood as a producer like my father. With a new director and new team, I am happy with his work. I am doing a cameo in his movie for 5 minutes."

Talking about Junaid Khan’s interest in theatre and being an introverted, shy child, Aamir shared, “He is very interested in theatre. Junaid ke baare mein, main aapko bataun toh woh bahut he zaheen hai. Class mein joh bacha first aata hai na, joh bhi subject pucho toh har cheez ka jawab aata hai, uss type ka bacha hai, Junaid. Lekin jab woh bada ho raha tha, 10th mein aaya toh Reena aur main kaafi concerned aur pareshan the ki woh academics mein, padhai-likhai mein bahut tez tha, har subject mein, lekin woh logo se baat-cheet karne mein bohot sharmata that [About Junaid, what can I say? Let me tell you that he is very intelligent. Junaid was the first person in the class to answer whatever subject he was asked. But when he was growing up, when he was in 10th, Reena and I were very concerned and worried that he was very good in academics, in studies, in every subject, but he was very shy in talking to people].”

Talking about how Junaid wants to be a self-made person, Aamir adds, “Actually he is very introverted, Junaid joh hai, aapne shayad uski photo bhi nahi dekhi hogi. Bahut saare log bolte hain ki humne aapke bete ka chehra hi nahi dekha. He is very shy, woh jyada bahar nahi jata, woh alag kisam ka banda hai. Jaise ke abhi woh 30 saal ka hai, aur matlab bachpan se jaise har parents chahate hain ki woh apne baccho ke liye behtar se behtar cheez karein, toh main chaha raha tha ki main uske liye jab woh school jaye, kahin bhi ghumne jaaye toh main gaadi le loon and aaj tak usne mujhko allow nahi kiya gaadi lene ke liye. Woh aaj tak public transport use karta hai, bus mein jata hai, train mein jata hai. Abhi 2-3 mahine pehle woh, Pondicherry mein tha; usne kaha, 'Papa main jaa raha hoon Bangalore mere dost ki shaadi hai'. Toh I said, 'Flight kitne baje ki hai?' And he said, 'Nahi, main overnight bus mein jaa raha hoon, state bus mein.' Toh uska totally, apna apna khud ka andaaz hai. He is a very independent person, he likes to live life in his own way and I am very proud of him because he wants to be a self-made person. Toh woh khud apne aap har cheez karta hai, woh theatre karta hai, pichle chaar paanch saal se [Actually he is very introverted. You might not have even seen his photo. Many people have said that we have not seen your son's face. He is very shy, he doesn't show much, he is a different kind of person. Now he is 30 years old, and every parent since childhood wants to do the best for their children, so I wanted to be there for him when he went to school, wherever he went. I wanted to buy him a car and till today he has not allowed me to purchase him the car. Till today he uses public transport, travels by bus, travels by train. He was in Pondicherry 2-3 months ago; He said, 'Papa, I am going to Bangalore because it is my friend's wedding.' So I said, 'What time is the flight?' And he said, 'No, I am travelling in the main overnight bus, but in the state bus.' So that's totally his own style. He is a very independent person, he likes to live life in his own way and I am very proud of him because he wants to be a self-made person. So he himself does his own thing, he does theatre, since last four-five years].”

When asked by the anchor as to how he does theatre as an introvert, Aamir clarifies, “Introvert hai, creative hai, lekin matlab woh party-warty mein nahi jata. Kaam mein introvert nahi hai, kaam mein ek dam josh, kaam karta hai, lekin jyada bahar nahi jata. But something happened in his life actually, which changed him and this is a very odd thing, bahut chhoti cheez bhi hai,  Jab college usne join kiya 11th mein toh, bade achhe marks laye the, top college mein gaya lekin, mujhe phikar thi issi baat ki. Lekin ek hafte mein, maine dekha ki uska behaviour change ho raha hai dheere dheere, aur maine pucha ki kya hua toh usne ek club join kiya tha, ‘Rotaract Club’, jaise Rotary club hota hai na, waise Rotaract club join kiya usne. Aur uss Rotaract club join karne ke baad, usme itne activities hote hain, social cheeze organise karte hein bacche, college ke events organise karte hein, 365 din mein kuch unke 400 events hote hain, woh ek saal mein maine usme badlav dekha. I think that meeting children his age, interacting with them, and working on the streets with everyone, really made him confident and that is a big change in him. Toh woh itna introvert tha ki mujhe takleef hoti thi, lekin ab mujhe lagta hai ki woh sahi ho gaya, usne film produce kar li toh ab toh tension hi nahi hai [He is an introvert, he is creative, but that means he does not go to parties, he is not an introvert in his work. He has enthusiasm for his work. But something happened in his life actually, which changed him and this is a very odd thing. He went to college in 11th grade. But within a week, I noticed that his behaviour was gradually changing, and I asked him what had happened so he had joined a club, ‘Rotaract Club’, just like Rotary club is, so he had joined Rotaract Club. After joining our Rotaract club, they were doing so many activities, organizing social things for children, organizing college events. They had about 400 events in 365 days, that is the change I have seen in a change in him in a year. I think that meeting children his age, interacting with them, and working on the streets with everyone, really made him confident and that is a big change in him. Then he was so introverted that it used to bother me, but now I feel that he has done the right thing. He has produced a film and now there is no tension].”

Before stepping into the world of cinema, Junaid Khan dedicated six years to the world of theatre. His journey began in August 2017 with director Quasar Thakore Padamsee’s adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s ‘Mother Courage and Her Children,’ a biting satire on the absurdity of war. This marked the beginning of a passionate pursuit of the craft of acting.

On the work front, Junaid’s debut Maharaj is an untitled love story set in the enchanting Japanese winters, with Sai Pallavi. ALSO READ: Aamir Khan confirms daughter Ira Khan and Nupur Shikhare are getting married on January 3, 2024: “I’m going to cry a lot that day”

Shaheen acknowledged that, while there will always be individuals who attempt to trivialise or misinterpret mental health issues, she views depression as neither a negative nor a dirty word. Instead, she embraces the opportunity to have meaningful discussions about it. She finds solace in knowing that she has contributed to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health.

Bollywood facing the wrath of the underworld has been a rather infamous 90s phenomena and it seems that it has returned to haunt the superstars yet again, especially Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. While the blackbuck case resulted in Salman and his family receiving death threats until today, the threats for Shah Rukh Khan seems to have returned after his stupendous success post Jawan and Pathaan. And now the actor has been provided with Y+ security.

Readers would be aware that Shah Rukh Khan has received record breaking success in 2023 with him being the only Indian actor to have garnered to two massive blockbusters consecutively. Post that, the actor seems to have approached the Mumbai police to seek protection wherein he revealed that he has been receiving death threats, after which the police sprung into action and provided him Y+ security cover, The said cover includes six armed personnel around the clock unlike his usual security which only included two officers. After Salman Khan was provided with the same security earlier this year after he received death threats from Lawrence Bishnoi and his gang, Shah Rukh Khan is the next actor to have received this recently.

Earlier, in a post shared by Sanjay Gupta, the filmmaker had appreciated Shah Rukh Khan not only in his film Jawan but also his ability to stand up and speak up against wrong doings. He had also recalled the time when Bollywood including Shah Rukh Khan received several threats from the underworld in the 90s, and how the superstar refused to bow down. He had written in his tweet, “I saw JAWAN. I feel compelled to share this. Back in the 90’s when the underworld bullying of the film stars was at its peak @iamsrk was THE ONLY star who never gave in. “Goli marni hai mar do, par tumhaare liye kaam nahin karoonga. Main Pathan hoon.” He said. He’s the same today.”

Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan showcases the superstar in the role of a police officer who takes drastic steps to seek justice by raising an army to fight the war in the most unconventional ways.

I’m happy that the film and my performance have got unanimously positive reviews and people across genders are giving it so much love.”

Bhumi adds, “As an actor, I have tried to lend my voice to important social topics for women like how a girl has the right to be happy in her body type in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, the right for a woman to demand proper toilets within her home in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, the need for society to treat women and gender equally in projects like Lust Stories, Badhaai Do that speaks about the relevant rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and empowers them.”

The heart-warming film Tumse Na Ho Payega was released with minimal buzz but has managed to be the number 1 film on Disney+ Hotstar. It is adapted from Varun Agarwal’s life experiences, documented in the novel ‘How I Braved Anu Aunty & Co-Founded A Million Dollar Company’, and tells the story of a coder who creates a path-breaking app after getting fired from his job. The app shown in the film is killer and it won’t be surprising if it soon gets launched in the market.

Tumse Na Ho Payega’s producer Siddharth Roy Kapur spoke about this film during an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama. He also discussed about the positive box office performance in 2023.

The first thing that came to my mind while watching Tumse Na Ho Payega was that it reminded me of the golden days of UTV Motion Pictures and UTV Spotboy. This is because the film is meant for a certain audience and also it talks about doing things you love. Moreover, with this film, you have collaborated with Ronnie Screwvala and Nitesh Tiwari, with whom you worked when you were at UTV Disney. Did you also feel the UTV connection while working on this film? That’s a lovely way of putting it! I can’t say that’s the reason we decided to make the film. You are quite right about the spirit with which we strive to do things in terms of the cinema we make. We try to push the envelope and do something that’s against the norm. What appealed to Ronnie, Nitesh and me about the book was that it talks about what the youth are going through but in a fun and irreverent way. When they are told, ‘Log kya kahenge, tumse na ho paayega’ or ‘why not take the safe route and stay in a secured job’, they don’t really adhere to it and try to break boundaries. Not many films have been made on this topic. Also, Nitesh Tiwari and Nikhil Mehrotra then wrote a great screenplay.

Was Tumse Na Ho Payega meant for a digital release since day 1? Yes. I have to give credit to Disney+ Hotstar for coming on board at the script stage itself. We wanted this film to reach out to the youth of our country. The platform that Disney+ Hotstar is in terms of penetration gave us the opportunity to reach that audience successfully. The fact that it’s trending on number 1 since the time it dropped proves that we made the right decision.

Also, when you release a film on digital, it becomes easier to have abuses. Had Tumse Na Ho Payega released in cinemas, the abuses would have been muted… Yes. If we hadn't made it real and authentic in terms of how the youth talk to each other, it would have seemed artificial. We had to get right the lingo that the youth uses. We had the advantage of doing that (on OTT).

In real life, Varun Agarwal started a merchandising company called Alma Mater. In the film, Gautav (Ishwak Singh) starts a food-based app named Maa’s Magic. Could you tell us what made you and the team of this film to make this change? We wanted to show that the business has an emotional edge. I think the idea of maa ke haath ka khana and mothers feeding bachelors and bachelorettes in a city had an emotional angle to it. Moreover, Varun’s app is an online merchandise store. It was an interesting concept. But the book was written years ago and we wanted something more relevant to the present day.

A heartening track in the film is that of the chaiwallah investing in the app. Did that happen for real? There are certain liberties that we have taken. What was great is that we might never imagine that a chaiwallah might have the money to invest in a business. But sometimes, these are the people who shed their blood, sweat and tears to collect money for their children’s education. And there’s an emotional arc where we feel that he invests in the business and we feel that he has lost the money. But the dignity that he shows is lovely.

Any chances of a sequel to Tumse Na Ho Payega? It’ll be interesting to know what happens next… You are right. It’s a little early. I thought of it just now when you mentioned it! I think right now, the team is just enjoying the great feedback that’s coming in.

There was a lot of negativity surrounding Bollywood in 2022. But in 2023, we saw back-to-back hits and even blockbusters releasing in cinemas. Do you think that we are in a much better position today? There’s no question about it. Last year, a section of people was writing the obituary for cinema and were wondering if the audience would ever come back to theatres. There was the ‘Boycott Bollywood’ trending on social media. The audience is back in huge numbers and it proves that the box office is back. Just the last 9 months have been testimony to the fact that the audience really enjoys the theatrical experience. If we deliver good content, they’ll come. It’s upto us filmmakers to be able to give great cinema and keep the numbers coming.

Your production Dangal (2016) was the first Indian film to collect Rs. 1000 crores at the box office. This year, two more Hindi films, Pathaan and Jawan, also entered the Rs. 1000 crores club. Do you feel that the box office is not just back but is going places we never imagined before? For sure. Dangal was a great example of the fact that Indian films can work in a market like China and make $200 million worldwide. This proves that our films can really break through and appeal to the audiences of the non-Indian markets as well. We don’t need to assume that our movies will work only among the South East Asian diaspora. Our films can work with the global audience and Dangal is the best example. Hopefully, we'll only be pushing boundaries from here on.

A trend that emerged this year is the buy-one-get-one ticket-free scheme. It has its share of supporters and critics. What are your thoughts? The filmmakers feel it works and hence, they implement it. There’s nothing wrong with experimenting with it. This is especially when the film is at its last leg at the box office and you want to give it another uplift. If you do it at that point in time, then you bring in the audience who might not have otherwise not watched your film in the cinemas. If you do in the release week, then it’s a call that a filmmaker can take, but then maybe you are not exploiting the full revenue potential of your film. But again, there’s no right or wrong answer. Every filmmaker has to take his/her call. If they feel their film is in danger of being overpriced, then going for a buy-one-get-one offer makes sense.

Which are your upcoming films? We have Pippa and Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan. We are yet to announce the release dates of these films. A call will be taken very soon. We also have some films in post-production. Then we have a film with Shahid Kapoor that goes on floors in October. It’s an action thriller and directed by Rosshan Andrrews. Lastly, we are making a few series that the platforms will announce at the right time.

Would you like to revive your space film Saare Jahan Se Accha, especially looking at the hype around Chandrayaan-3? The film has never gone away. It’s something that we are working on in the background and we’ll be ready to announce it at the right time. Director Mahesh Mathai and I are convinced that we’ll make it. But sometimes, films have their own destiny. Hence, I am sure that this is a story that will be told at the right time. The story is timeless. It’s not in danger of getting dated at any point.

You are a big Amitabh Bachchan fan. Interestingly, you made so many films but none of them have starred him… I was the junior member of the marketing team at Star Network. That was the time when I worked with him, during the first season of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ in 2000. This was when I was and still am in awe of the man. I hope to work with him soon (smiles).

One of the biggest singing sensations Sonu Nigam recently said that he was put in a box after he delivered a chartbuster sad song. He was being offered only sad songs after ‘Achha Sila Diya’. It was only when he was offered Pardes track ‘Yeh Dil Deewana’ for Shah Rukh Khan, that music composers thought of him for new age tracks.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sonu Nigam recalled how he was only offered to croon sad songs after his popular track ‘Achha Sila Diya’ from the 1995 film Bewafa Sanam. “I was fed up! After ‘Achha Sila Diya’, I was only offered sad songs. I always joke on stage that I started getting songs with the words, ‘kafan, dafan, laash, shamshaan ghat, kabristan’. I would only get such sad songs! I wished that I would get some up-tempo songs as well, and that finally happened with Nadeem-Sharavan,” Sonu told Bollywood Hungama.

Sonu revealed that his career took a turn when he sang ‘Yeh Dil Deewana’ in Pardes for Shah Rukh Khan. “I had told them I can do it. I can do Western also. When they had an opportunity with ‘Yeh Dil Deewana’, they suggested Subhash Ghai my name. So, I started getting new age songs thanks to Nadeem-Sharavan,” he added.

He also recalled the adlib he did for the song ‘Ah’ which was him copying Michael Jackson. “The ‘ah’ in the song, that was me copying Michael Jackson’s style. I wouldn’t understand what he would sing except for his ‘ahs’ in the songs. So, during ‘Yeh Dil’, I thought it could go perfectly well here. Subhash ji really liked it and said, ‘Yeh toh bada badmaash ladka hai!’ He liked that I was singing with so much power,” he added.

Sonu Nigam went on to sing for Shah Rukh Khan in several movies including Kal Ho Na Ho, Om Shanti Om, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, among others.

In a candid revelation on the 'Timeout with Ankit' podcast, veteran Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor recently shared the heartwarming story of his love life and how his wife, Shivangi Kolhapure, made a significant sacrifice for their relationship.

Shakti Kapoor shared that their love story began on the sets of a film, where Shivangi was working as a child artist. Despite being 12 years younger than Shakti Kapoor, she was an ardent fan of his. They first crossed paths when she took photos with him on set, and destiny played its part in bringing them together.

Kapoor reminisced, "Then we met and fell in love. I realized I would not find such a beautiful and homely girl elsewhere. That's how we started seeing each other." However, the intensity of their love initially distracted Kapoor from his work, causing him to fear that it might negatively impact his career. He decided to communicate his concerns to Shivangi, which left her furious. In response, she accepted an offer to act in Sawan Kumar Tak's film, Laila.

This decision created turmoil in Kapoor's life, as he humorously recalled, "Meri halaat kharab hogayi (I was worried), as I was the Majnu in her life." He added, “I went to her and begged that don’t work. I want you as a housewife.”

Shakti continued, “It’s been 40 years with her. She gave up her career for me. I still fold my hands in front of her. I got married at the peak of my career, and she brought me more luck and prosperity. We then had a son and daughter, and built our own family.”

Their love story culminated in a court marriage in 1982, as their parents had not yet accepted their relationship due to cultural differences. It wasn't until the birth of their son that Shivangi's parents finally embraced their relationship. Over the course of 40 years of marriage, Shakti and Shivangi built a loving family, which includes their son Siddhant and daughter Shraddha Kapoor, both of whom have followed in their father's footsteps as actors.

Hansal Mehta and Pratik Gandhi’s collaboration in Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story turned out to be one of the most iconic Hindi web shows. The web series told the life story of the stock market scamster Harshad Mehta. The two also collaborated for the short film Baai in the anthology Modern Love: Mumbai.

Mehta and Gandhi’s next collaboration in the form of a web series on Mohandar Karamchand Gandhi aka Mahatma Gandhi is keenly awaited as it is the first show of the duo after Scam 1992. The web series is adapted from historian Ramachandra Guha’s books ‘Gandhi Before India’ and ‘Gandhi: The Years That Changed The World.’ The show will see Pratik play Gandhi while it will be produced by Applause Entertainment, which had also produced Scam 1992.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Hansal Mehta revealed that the show is all set to commence shoot soon. “We are very heavily into pre-production. We will be commencing shoot within maximum of a month. We are preparing to begin shooting,” he said.

Interestingly, Pratik has played Gandhi before in Manoj Shah’s Gujarati play Mohan No Masalo. He also starred in the Hindi and English adaptations of the same play. Although Hansal has seen the play, he said that that wasn’t the reason why he cast Pratik to play Gandhi in his show. “Pratik was cast in the show by Applause (Entertainment). I came into the show a month after Pratik was cast. After Pratik was cast and after I came in, we all went together to watch the play,” said the filmmaker.

Hansal pointed out that the play is hugely different from the show they are set out to make, although both are based on Gandhi’s life. “They are two different interpretations,” he said. “One, it is theatre. And it’s an interpretation of his life through a monologue. It’s a one-man act. It’s incredibly well performed. It’s incredible! But what we are doing right now is something far beyond that. It’s a different interpretation and a different medium altogether. We are doing our best to do something that we have never seen before.”

Certain people effortlessly exude grace, style, and refinement in the world of fashion. A notable example of this is Sushmita Sen, whose portrayal of Aarya Sareen in the acclaimed web series Aarya not only grabbed the viewers with its compelling plot but also left a lasting impression with her flawless sense of style. Aarya, played by Sushmita Sen, not only exemplified strength and fortitude but also flaunted an incredible wardrobe. From her throughout the series, we can get the following helpful fashion advice:

Indian Wear Wardrobe ( Saree) The series' bright green saree and sharp blouse that Sen wore for a joyous family gathering drew our eye. The actor's saree by Aarya was a solid shade of emerald green with a deft sequined border. But it was her blouse, with its rows of subtle gold stripes that created drama without being garish, that made the outfit pop. Sen chose a bulky pearl necklace set as an accessory, but you could dress it down by eschewing the choker and opting instead for a pair of earrings or perhaps a little maang tikka.

Tortoise shell frames, brown, shaded lenses, and oversized proportions. Akshay Kumar’s courtroom drama OMG 2 was released after suffering negativity due to the insane number of cuts imposed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Despite the cuts, the film was awarded an ‘A’ certificate. Akshay Kumar, during the promotions of his latest release, Mission Raniganj, was asked about it and whether it upsets him that the under-18 youngsters couldn’t watch such an important film.

Akshay Kumar replied, “Well, rules are rules. They (Central Board of Film Certification) felt it was an adult film. But did you guys feel it was an adult film? It was a film that should be shown to youngsters because I made it for them. Thankfully, it’s going to come tomorrow on Netflix. The important thing is that people should know about it.”

He further discussed this topic while also opening up about whether he faces pressure when backing such unconventional films that might probably not score at the box office. Akshay opined, “When I made Toilet – Ek Prem Katha (2017), everybody told me, ‘Yeh koi title hua? Are you mad? Are you telling me that you are making a film on shauchalaya?’. I went ahead and made it. Don't discourage me by making me think how much business my films will do. Give me courage that I should think at least, these kinds of films are made so that we can enlighten the audience that it’s time to change the society.”

He further said, “I made a film on sanitary pads (Pad Man; 2018). Kisi ke baap mein dum nahin tha ki sanitary pad pe film banaye. Koi haath bhi nahin lagata tha pad ko. I won’t name the person but I was standing with someone. We all stood with pads. He also was handed one pad. His PA whispered in my ear, ‘Yeh inke haath mein mat dilao. Accha nahin lagta’.”

Akshay Kumar spoke to a group of journalists for the promotion of Mission Raniganj about the film and a lot more. He made an important comment about doing multi-city tours and how it can prove to be a futile exercise. He even gave the example of his film Selfiee (2023) which was promoted in several cities and yet, bombed at the box office.

Akshay Kumar said, “This (Mission Raniganj) is a word of mouth film. Aisa nahin hota hai ki mere kisi shehar mein jaane se meri film chalegi. Maine dekh liya Selfiee mein. Sab jagah ghoom liya. Aisa kuch nahin hota.”

Akshay continued, “It’s not like the audience will watch a film because I have paid their city a visit. Agar logon ke padosi ne bola ki acchi film hai, toh woh jaayenge film dekhne. Somebody asked me whether my family members liked the film. Unko toh acchi hi lagegi. Buri hongi toh bhi acchi lagegi. Unke bolne se thodi koi faayda hota hai. Public ke bolne se faayda hota hai. All the actors who promote their films would claim ‘Maine badi acchi film banayi hai. Yeh film zaroor jaake dekhna’. It is about 1 person telling the other and forwarding an appreciation message to 4 others. That is the tried and tested method.”

Akshay Kumar further said, “Promotion is important, but how you do it is more important. Today, you all are asking so many questions as you guys have seen the film. If we had met before the release and I would have tried explaining what the film, sach bolta hoon, aap log bahar jaa ke bolte ‘Yeh toh bolega hi aisa’!”

Lastly, he added, “I have done 150 films. I have understood one thing. Even the media knows that when an actor is giving gyaan, how much of it is true and how much of it is false. Unke saamne gyaani banne ki koshish mat karo. Let them decide. I am so happy that I am meeting you all after you guys have watched Mission Raniganj. Nahin toh mujhe itna zor lagana padta ki ‘film mein aisa hai, fir aisa hota hai’. You won’t feel the hardship faced by the miners in the film until you watch it.”

MUMBAI DIARIES SEASON 2 is the story of doctors in a government hospital struggling to save lives during a deluge. After the events of the first season, Dr Kaushik Oberoi (Mohit Raina) is accused of failing to save ATS Anant Kelkar’s life by his wife Savita Kelkar (Sonali Kulkarni). She files a case in the court. The matter gets complicated when Dr Diya Parekh’s (Natasha Bharadwaj) testimony over the death of her mother goes against Dr Kaushik. The verdict on the case is all set to be delivered on July 26, 2009. Dr Kaushik reaches the court along with his pregnant wife Ananya (Tina Desai). Due to extreme rainfall, the judge fails to reach the court and the hearing is postponed to July 31. Ananya leaves for Pune to deliver a lecture. Dr Kaushik resumes work at Bombay General Hospital. As the first round of flood survivors get admitted, Dr Kaushik finds it difficult to treat them as he’s tormented with media coverage on his case, especially by News Today where Mansi Hirani (Shreya Dhanwanthary) has started a campaign against him. Meanwhile, Dr Ahaan Mirza (Satyajeet Dubey) has feelings for Chitra Das (Konkona Sen Sharma) and wants to take her out for a movie. But he’s too scared to ask her out. Chitra, who’s still struggling with her traumatic past, gets a shock of her life when she sees her abusive ex-husband, Dr Saurav Chandra (Parambrata Chattopadhyay), as part of a delegation that has come from UK to visit Bombay General Hospital. Dr Diya is being judged for testifying against Dr Kaushik while Dr Sujata Ajawale (Mrunmayee Deshpande) gets in trouble after getting caught forging the signature of the hospital's CMO, Dr Madhusudan Subramaniam (Prakash Belawadi). And the madness has just begun and it increases as the rains wreck havoc in the city. What happens next forms the rest of the series.

The story is excellent and peppered with captivating moments. Yash Chhetija and Persis Sodawaterwalla’s screenplay is gripping. There are multiple tracks and chaos is happening in all of them. To bind them together and at the same time to ensure that the narrative seems sensible and engaging is no easy task. But the writers come out with flying colours. Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh’s dialogues are simple and sharp.

Nikkhil Advani’s direction is exemplary. One of the strengths is the way he has used long takes where the focus shifts from one character to another and the emergency they are attending to. The flood angle further adds to the drama. And he has inserted tons of nail-biting moments. One can feel the pressure under which the doctors function in the hospital where there’s no chance to rest even for a second. On top of it, the tension levels go to another level in the last 2 episodes thanks to the tracks of Dr Kaushik-Ananya and that of Dr Saurav-Chitra-Dr Ahaan. The show ends on a justified note and will make you respect doctors even more. The comment on how news channels manipulate the aam junta is an eye-opener.

On the flipside, the initial episodes are dragging. One might even question the makers that why did they incorporate those tracks that have nothing to do with floods. Of course, later on, it makes sense but initially, one might get restless over the pace and the number of tracks. Secondly, it’s bewildering why the makers never showed the courtroom scene of Dr Diya; it would have given more weightage. Lastly, the scene of Dr Sujata blasting Dr Kaushik in the morgue in front of the deceased’s husband is plain silly.

Mohit Raina yet again scores a sixer. He displays his vulnerability with perfection. Konkona Sen Sharma is terrific and especially nails the scenes of the trauma. Parambrata Chattopadhyay is flawless as a manipulative, abusive person. Satyajeet Dubey, Natasha Bharadwaj and Mrunmayee Deshpande are too good as doctors who now have experience but are still new to this world. Prakash Belawadi is adorable and one can’t help but root for him. Tina Desai is a surprise. The way she has acted proves that she is a stupendous performer. Shreya Dhanwanthary is dependable as expected. Sonali Kulkarni shines in a cameo. Balaji Gauri (Cherian) is fine but to make her shout in all scenes gets on the nerves after a point. The others who deliver fabulous performances are Akshar Kothari (Inspector Mayank Bhat), Amit Jairath (Sachin; Mansi’s cameraman), Adithi K S (Vidya; nurse), Vasundhara Kaul (Mallika; Mansi’s boss), Pushkaraj Chirputkar (Samarth), Samaresh Das (Sandeep Raut), Jaimini Pathak (Prashant Raut; Sandeep’s father), Kalyanee Mulay (Shaalu; Sandeep’s mother), Sharad Ponkshe (Yogesh Kulkarni) and Milind Vijay Phatak (Jaywant; juvenile home in-charge). Sanjay Narvekar (Jadhav) is a bit over the top.

Ashutosh Pathak’s music is nothing special. ‘Rab Ne Sab Ke’ registers a bit due to the haunting feel. Ashutosh Pathak’s background score enhances the thrill. Malay Prakash’s cinematography is splendid. However, the scene where Ananya is being taken on an inflatable bed is bad. The camerawork could have taken better angles in what could have been the money shot of the series. Priya Suhass’ production design is rich and detailed. The VFX is also superb, especially the scenes of the city under water. Sheetal Iqbal Sharma’s costumes are non-glamorous, as per the requirement. Mohammed Amin Khatib’s action is limited. Maahir Zaveri’s editing could have been sharper in the initial episodes.

On the whole, MUMBAI DIARIES SEASON 2 is a nail-biting thriller that deserves a watch due to its script, execution, message and outstanding performances by the lead and secondary cast.

Rating: 3.5 stars
