Superstar Aamir Khan is all set to release Sitaare Zameen Par on June 20. Usually, the actor has just one or no other project in hand before his immediate release. He decides his next only after his current release is out of the system. But this time, Aamir has made an exception. Last month, it came to light that he’ll play the role of Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema and that it would be directed by blockbuster filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani. There have also been reports of him working with popular South director Lokesh Kanagaraj and also in talks for the sequel to PK (2014).

During a group interaction with journalists, Aamir Khan talked about his slate. He began by saying, “PK 2 is a rumour. I don’t know anything about it.” He added, “Dadasaheb Phalke film is definitely being made. Raju and I are working on it.”

When asked about a film with Lokesh Kanagaraj, he replied, “Lokesh and I are working on a film. It belongs to the superhero genre. It’s a big-scale action film and will go on floors in the second half of 2026.”

When asked more about it, he replied, “I can’t say more than this. Yeh do saal aage ki baat hai!”

Aamir Khan also opened up on his ambitious venture, “Mahabharat has been my dream for the last 25 years. When you are making Mahabharat, you are not making a film. Aap yagna karne nikal rahe ho. You need to prepare, which I am trying to do. Whether my dream will be fulfilled or not, I can’t say right now. Until I don’t walk on that path and I don’t have a basic foundation in front of me, I can’t answer this question. Also, I can’t tell you who will be cast in the movie. Whatever I’ll answer will be wrong. I don’t have the right information right now.”

Aamir continued, “Mera mann hai 25 saalon se ki main Mahabharat pe kaam karoon. But as I said, it’s a different journey. Where this journey will reach, I don’t know. But I’ll surely start the journey. It's just a dream right now.”

The teaser of Param Sundari was attached with Bhool Chuk Maaf and it was met with a positive response. On May 29, it was released digitally and further added to the film's hype. However, fans of Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor might have to wait a little longer as the producers, Maddock Films, are contemplating postponing its release.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Param Sundari is scheduled to release on July 25. Dinesh Vijan had a meeting with his team and is discussing whether they should stick to the date or arrive later. There are too many releases next month and this is one of the reasons behind the team having second thoughts.”

The source continued, “The Maddock team is looking at August 29. No film has taken this slot. They are also considering other dates.”

The source cautioned, “The USP of Maddock is the way they take swift decisions. We have seen that in the past when they decided to suddenly release Zara Hatke Zara Bachke within 3 weeks or when they pushed Bhool Chuk Maaf not just by a week but also decided to cancel its theatrical release. Hence, with Dinesh Vijan, you never know. He might push the release or he might also stick to July 25. A clearer picture would emerge in a few days.”

If Param Sundari gets pushed, Son Of Sardaar 2 will get a solo Bollywood release. The grand comic caper is also scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 25. It stars Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur, Sanjay Mishra, Kubbra Sait and the late Mukul Dev.

Overcrowded July

Meanwhile, trade is concerned as there are far too many releases in the month of July. The month will begin with the musical Metro…In Dino, the Pan-India film Kingdom and the much-awaited Hollywood biggie Jurassic World: Rebirth clashing at the box office on July 4. On July 11, Vikrant Massey-Shanaya Kapoor starrer Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan and Rajkummar Rao’s action drama Maalik would release along with another Hollywood biggie, Superman.

On July 18, Mohit Suri and Yash Raj Films will present their romantic saga, Saiyaara, also the debut vehicle of Ahaan Panday. The same day, two Hollywood flicks are also scheduled to be released – Smurfs and I Know What You Did Last Summer. While the former can attract kids in hordes, the latter is a slasher film and after Final Destination Bloodlines, this can be another A-rated box office surprise. Lastly, besides Param Sundari and Son Of Sardaar 2, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will also have a release on the big screen on July 25.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has never shied away from treading the road less taken. Whether it was backing a film about a dyslexic child (Taare Zameen Par), making India’s first official Oscar entry with Lagaan, or turning wrestling drama Dangal into a global phenomenon, Khan has consistently rewritten the rules of Hindi cinema. And now, with his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, he may be on the brink of disrupting the digital distribution model altogether.

YouTube pay-per-view: A potential game-changer Sources confirm that Aamir is seriously considering releasing Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube Pay-Per-View, roughly eight weeks after its theatrical release on June 20, 2025. In doing so, he would bypass the traditional OTT giants that dominate post-theatrical distribution today.

This move isn’t just bold - it’s seismic.

If implemented successfully, it could dismantle the status quo of how films are monetized after their theatrical run. YouTube’s pay-per-view model offers audiences a one-time, affordable viewing option without being locked into monthly subscriptions. This becomes particularly powerful in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, where expensive OTT platforms often fail to penetrate at scale.

Less dependence on OTT, more control for filmmakers Over the years, leading streaming platforms have grown increasingly influential in the film ecosystem, not just acquiring content but shaping it. From dictating release windows to influencing star cast, runtime, and genre choices - creative freedom has often taken a back seat to algorithmic assumptions.

Aamir Khan’s move challenges that very dynamic. By taking his film directly to audiences, Khan not only retains control over how the film is distributed, but also how it’s priced, promoted, and consumed.

A trade insider puts it bluntly: “For decades, filmmakers have depended on middlemen - be it TV syndication or OTT - to reach audiences. If Aamir pulls this off, he cuts out the middlemen and opens a direct revenue channel between filmmakers and viewers and also retains the IP.”

Longer theatrical runs, less OTT pressure One of the biggest changes in the OTT era has been the shrinking of theatrical windows. Today, most Bollywood films are compelled to release on streaming platforms within 6 to 8 weeks of theatrical release -regardless of whether they are still drawing crowds at the box office.

Aamir Khan’s approach flips that logic. By opting for a PPV model on YouTube - a platform not bound by exclusivity contracts or rigid timelines - producers can afford to extend theatrical runs without pressure from OTT partners.

This strategy aligns perfectly with Aamir’s deep-rooted commitment to cinema halls. A staunch advocate of the big screen experience, he has long believed that films deserve to be consumed in theatres first, without the looming threat of a digital release cannibalizing collections.

“He wants the theatre experience to be the primary mode of cinematic consumption,” says a close associate. “The PPV model offers a flexible, non-intrusive digital follow-up, rather than a replacement.”

A visionary at work, again This isn’t the first time Aamir Khan has dared to swim against the tide. In an industry where opening weekend collections often dictate a film’s fate, Aamir has consistently chosen content over commerce - and won. Lagaan, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, PK, Dangal - each was a risk at the time. Each redefined what Bollywood could achieve, both artistically and commercially.

What makes this current move particularly significant is that it’s not just about Sitaare Zameen Par. It’s about paving the way for a future where filmmakers are not dependent on a handful of platforms to dictate the terms of storytelling.

If successful, Khan’s model could open new revenue streams, encourage more experimental content, and democratize digital film access - especially in rural and low-bandwidth areas where OTT apps are still a luxury.

The Netflix counterattack That’s precisely why streaming giants like Netflix are rattled. As reported exclusively by Bollywood Hungama, Netflix has upped its offer from Rs. 60 crore to a staggering Rs. 125 crore to acquire Sitaare Zameen Par, in an attempt to block this YouTube PPV rollout.

But for Aamir, it’s not just about the money - it’s about pioneering a path that others can follow.

Conclusion: A crossroads for Bollywood The Indian film industry is watching closely. If Khan’s YouTube Pay-Per-View strategy succeeds, it could catalyze a wave of decentralization in film distribution. Filmmakers may no longer feel compelled to chase streaming deals that compromise their vision. Theatres may get more breathing space before films go digital. And most importantly, audiences - especially in underserved regions - could gain greater access to new films without costly subscriptions.

Aamir Khan, once again, isn’t just acting in a film. He’s scripting a new chapter in the business of cinema.

In a candid moment at a recent NDTV event, Sara Ali Khan opened up about her thoughts on fellow actor Alia Bhatt and the feelings of envy that can arise when witnessing someone else's success. Speaking with refreshing honesty, Sara acknowledged the tendency to view others' accomplishments through a narrow lens, without fully understanding the effort and challenges that may have led to them.

Reflecting on Alia Bhatt's recent National Award win, Sara said, “When Alia got the National Award, I was like, ‘God, she got it, she has a kid also, her life is set’. But I don’t know what she went through to get that. I, as an actor, dehumanised her.” Sara further elaborated on how success is often seen in isolation, without recognizing the struggles that come with it. “You don’t know, she must have had challenges and disappointments too, to reach where she has. But I didn’t realise what went into it. There are two sides to every coin.”

The actress, known for her grounded persona and openness, spoke about how envy often stems from incomplete understanding. “Most often, when we are envious of other people, we feel so without all the information. We are envious because we just see that success and then we want that. We don’t see what goes behind it; we never see it. Envy means blindness.”

Sara’s words resonated with many who struggle with comparing themselves to others, especially in a high-pressure industry like Bollywood. Her statement serves as a reminder of the importance of empathy and perspective in both personal and professional spaces.

Alia Bhatt, who was honoured with the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi, has often spoken about the dedication and hard work that has shaped her journey. She welcomed her first child with actor Ranbir Kapoor in late 2022 and continues to balance personal milestones with professional success.

Meanwhile, Sara Ali Khan is also carving her own path in the industry and recently she celebrated the immense love she received for her character Sowmya in the romantic comedy Zara Hatke Zara Bachke which completed 2 years a couple of days ago. The actress has also frequently used public platforms to speak about mental health, self-reflection, and the challenges of being in the public eye. Her latest remarks are being appreciated for their sincerity and depth.

In his note, Gurmeet wrote, “Today, a new worker stole some items from our home and ran away. Thankfully, we always verify anyone who comes to work, so we could act quickly. I'm especially grateful I was home, and my babies were safe in their room. With prompt action and a few calls, we recovered most of the items - and most importantly, everyone is safe. Just a bit of bad luck, but a strong reminder: Stay alert. Always verify anyone who enters your home for work.”

Tarun Gahlot was recently seen in Raid 2 in the role of Chote. This is his third venture with Ajay Devgn and he has previously worked with the talented actor in Rudra – The Edge Of Darkness (2022) and Bholaa (2023). He also features in Ajay’s upcoming romcom, De De Pyaar De 2, the much-awaited sequel to De De Pyaar De (2019). In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, he opened up about his film.

Tarun Gahlot began by saying, “I can’t say much. The film has shaped up well, and is in the same zone as Luv Ranjan sir’s other films.”

When asked what we can expect, he replied, “It has a double dose of entertainment, comedy and drama. It’s going to be an amazing film. I am confident that people are going to love the movie.”

Tarun Gahlot then spoke highly of Luv Ranjan and director Anshul Sharma saying, “Luv sir has a great command over his writing. Anshul sir has also done very well. His human understanding is very tremendous. We have worked in a very relaxed manner. For the first time, I had that experience where you are in such a comfortable space that you are not afraid of making mistakes. When you don’t have this fear, nothing can be more relaxing for an actor. Aise aur log hone chahiye, so that as a filmmaker, you can grow and deliver better.”

Besides Ajay Devgn, De De Pyaar De 2 also stars Rakul Preet Singh and R Madhavan.

Remembering Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar

One of the films that stands out in Tarun Gahlot’s filmography is Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar (2021), directed by Dibakar Banerjee. The film took a while to be made. It was all set to be released on March 20, 2020. However, due to the pandemic, it was pushed indefinitely. It was released on March 19, 2021, at a time when once again, the cases had started to rise. As a result, the film didn’t get much of an audience. It finally got its due on Amazon Prime Video.

Tarun Gahlot began by saying that he was seen in a crucial scene in the opening. He revealed, “The whole scene was written by me and Dibakar. I was also the Haryanvi dialect coach for Arjun Kapoor throughout the film.”

On the tumultuous journey of the film, he stated, “I didn’t have much to do as an actor in Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. But I was involved in the whole process as Arjun trained with me for three months. Dibakar and I had worked on the Haryanvi dialogues. I guess every film has its own destiny. Its release date got pushed. Finally, it did release in theatres but due to rising COVID cases, it didn’t reach out to the audience. However, it was a very honest film made by a hard-working team. Hence, it was heartening that finally it reached out to people through OTT. I got the same feeling for Raid 2’s success as well though with Raid 2, the response is far more.”

Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar starred Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra in leading roles. Tarun Gahlot continued, “Arjun and I formed a great bond. He wrote a very nice note for me on Instagram. I was quite touched. It helped people know that I have worked as an actor and coach on the film. Hence, a lot of people then reached out to me.”

Aamir Khan is gearing up for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par. The film is in the news for many reasons, one of it being that Aamir plans to release it on YouTube after its theatrical run and not on any OTT platform. As part of the promotions of the film, he organized a Taare Zameen Par Fan Meetup featuring the team of the 2007 classic in the presence of hundreds of fans. Interestingly, another YouTube connection emerged with regards to Taare Zameen Par at this event.

The host Laksh Maheshwari said that in the scene where Aamir Khan is seen with a boat, the photograph seen in the room is that of the actor’s mother and father, as per trivia on the internet. Aamir Khan clarified, “No, that’s not my mom and dad. I guess, it is someone else’s mom and dad (smiles)! Maybe it’s Amole Gupte’s parents. I don’t know. But it's not my parents at all.”

The host expressed the desire to show the scene but then revealed that he couldn’t do so as Taare Zameen Par is not available on any streaming platform. Aamir Khan agreed, “Yes, the film is not anywhere.” He then said, “Ek kaam karte hai. I have started a YouTube channel called Aamir Khan Talkies. I’ll tell my team that let’s upload Taare Zameen Par there free of cost. It can be available for 1-2 weeks.” The audience clapped loudly, indicating that they approved of the idea.

TZP team goes down memory lane

Aamir Khan was then joined by Darsheel Safary, Tisca Chopra and Vipin Sharma and they went down memory lane. Aamir Khan revealed, “For a scene, there was a tear on my face; I didn’t want it. Hence, we removed it. But now, with VFX, such changes are a cakewalk.”

Darsheel Safary spoke about the song ‘Bumm Bumm Bole’, “It was a great experience shooting this song for sir. I was the only one who couldn’t dance. You can see me being upset in the song. I was upset in real life too as everyone around me was dancing. Shiamak Davar sir himself had come to choreograph the song and I was upset about it. Later on, Aamir sir and I did dance together.”

Aamir Khan talked highly of Darsheel, “When I used to explain the shot to him, he used to keep dancing continuously. I used to not mind it as I knew he was absorbing the whole scene. He was not distracted. As soon as we would go for a take, he would get into character immediately.”

Vipin Sharma opened up, “After the film, wherever I used to go, people used to say, ‘Where is Darsheel? You didn’t bring him’. Darsheel was asked the same question.”

Vipin raised laughs as he said, “He used to call me Vipin; it was the most cherished memory of the shoot! One day, I came in the vanity van. He sat on my lap and told me, ‘Vipin, they (people in the unit) will go to hell’. I asked, ‘Why’. He said, ‘They are all eating chicken. You are a vegetarian. You and I are safe’!”

A visibly embarrassed Darsheel Safary clarified, “I was 8 years old then!”

Vipin Sharma, on a serious note, added, “I am not married. I don’t have a family. I never experienced what it means to have a child. He (Darsheel) gave me that experience to feel like a father. I’ll always be there for him!” As expected, Darsheel was quite touched by this confession and so were all the attendees.

Ranbir Kapoor is all set to take the Dhoom franchise forward, as reports suggest he will headline Dhoom 4 in a slick new avatar. The fourth instalment of the popular action-heist franchise is being planned as a reboot, with Brahmastra director Ayan Mukerji likely to helm the project under the Yash Raj Films (YRF) banner.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, YRF’s head honcho Aditya Chopra is personally invested in shaping the new vision for Dhoom 4 and is currently in the process of locking a script that matches with the legacy of the franchise, along with screenwriter Shridhar Raghavan. “Aditya Chopra has been closely involved in developing the story and screenplay of Dhoom 4 with Shridhar Raghavan. They are currently working on the story draft that’s worthy of the hype around the reboot with Dhoom 4,” a source said.

The franchise, known for its suave anti-heroes, looks to continue the trend with Ranbir playing the antagonist. “Ranbir is the apt choice for Dhoom 4, and the character is also designed keeping his aura and personality in mind. The new Dhoom film is being designed keeping the global action standards in mind, and the visual pallete, as also storytelling will be very different from the already established YRF Spy Universe,” the source added.

Details of the rest of the cast continues to stay under wraps including the names of the actors who will be seen in the roles of police officer Jai and Ali, originally played by Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra in the film series. YRF is planning to take Dhoom 4 on floors by April 2026, with a target wrap by the end of the same year. The makers are eyeing a 2027 release.

Ranbir Kapoor, who is currently working on Love & War with real-life wife Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, will reunite with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali after 2007’s Saawariya for that period romance. Meanwhile, Ayan Mukerji is in the final stages of post-production for War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani. The action thriller is slated for release on August 14, 2025.

With Ranbir’s charisma and Ayan’s storytelling sensibilities coming together for the fourth time, Dhoom 4 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated action spectacles in the coming years.

Directed by Siddharth Anand and written by Sujoy Ghosh, the film is positioned as a high-octane action drama.

Fans flooded the comments section with reactions such as “Superb,” “Good look,” and “Love & Respect Mr. Shah Rukh Khan King of Bollywood.” One fan gushed, “It is a killer look after Don 2,” while another wrote, “Bhai kehdo ke ye video 30 saal purana hai bhai, 27 year wale SRK hai ye (Bro, say this video is 30 years old, this is SRK from when he was 27)”.

wthhhhhhh khaaan saaaab pic.twitter.com/gEY3wL1gmS — Aryan (@tumhidekhonaa) June 1, 2025

The video has not only reignited comparisons to Shah Rukh’s Don 2 era look but also built anticipation for his character in King, which appears to be dark, stylish, and action-heavy. While his arms feature several dark spots, rumours suggest that they are marks for body ink as a requisite for the styling of his role – which is being hailed as a refreshing shift from his recent characters.

Adding to the hype around King is the star-studded cast. The film also marks the theatrical debut of Suhana Khan, Shah Rukh’s daughter, who reportedly plays a pivotal role, albeit not his daughter. Abhishek Bachchan is set to play the antagonist, while Munjya actor Abhay Verma will also be seen in a key part. A cameo from Deepika Padukone is also expected to add to this starry affair.

With such a powerful ensemble and SRK’s dramatic transformation, King is fast becoming one of the most anticipated films of the year. The viral video has only fuelled curiosity about what promises to be a gripping cinematic experience.

Aamir Khan has opened up about his first marriage to Reena Dutta, offering a rare and heartfelt reflection on the decision they made at a very young age. The actor, who recently announced his relationship with Gauri Spratt, shared candid insights into how their journey together began and evolved as he gears up for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par.

In a podcast with Raj Shamani, Aamir discussed his personal life and recalled his first marriage saying, “Reena aur maine bahut jaldi shaadi kar li (We got married very early). Legally the day that was possible for me to get married – which was April 18, a month’s notice after I turned 21 on March 14 – we got married on that day. Reena was only 19 at the time. We only knew each other for 4 months and that too we had only spent very little time with each other. We did love each other a lot but now when I think back, I feel like a step like marriage should have been a well-thought decision. Uss waqt jawani ke josh mein aap bahut saara cheezein aap nahi samajte ho, halaaki baad mein aapko ehsaas hota hai (At that time, when you are young, you don’t think about many things but you do understand it in the later stages of your life)”.

Despite the impulsive start, Aamir stressed that the relationship was meaningful and enriching. “However, I must say that our marriage was very good. I do not mean that Reena or the marriage with her was a mistake. That is not at all what I am saying. To be honest, Reena is an amazing person because of this early marriage, we actually ended up growing together. Even today, we respect and love each other a lot. But I believe that no one at such a young age or in a hurry should take a huge step in their lives,” he shared.

The actor, who shared 16 years of marriage with Reena before parting ways amicably, acknowledged the impact that period had on shaping his life. He added, “Having said that, I don’t think I would be sitting here if I would have not done that. So I cannot ever call it a ‘mistake’. In fact, another reason why I can’t accept that it was a mistake is because the marriage gave me two most priceless gifts – my kids – Ira and Junaid. I also got to spend about 16 years with Reena.”

Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta got married in 1986 and separated in 2002. Despite their split, the two continued to share a strong friendship and co-parented their children. While Ira is currently married to Nupur Shikhare and she has been working towards social causes, Aamir’s son Junaid made his acting debut in films last year with Maharaj.

The trailer of Housefull 5 is out and during the launch, producer Sajid Nadiadwala confirmed that 2 versions of the comic caper will be released. He said, “So, if you see at Gaiety, you'll see a character playing a killer but in Galaxy, the culprit will be somebody else. In PVR Audi 4, you'll have one killer but in PVR Audi 5, you'll see a version with a different killer. Even in the same audi, different show timings will have different actors playing the killer. This is happening in the world for the first time.” We asked the trade experts if this move could be a game-changer or will it backfire?

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “It remains to be seen how people react to it. I don’t think it has happened before. People have shot two endings, like what happened with Sholay (1975). But with Housefull 5, there are two versions and they’ll also be available to the audience. That would be very interesting.”

He added, “I’d love to watch it twice as I would want to know what the second ending would be. However, it all boils down to the content. Otherwise, people might watch it only once. The film needs to have repeat value. After all, the identity of the killer comes only towards the end. Hence, for the remainder of the film, you need to have a very gripping screenplay.”

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, said, “It’s a novelty. It’s not something that happens every week. The idea behind it is to create conversation to get people talking about the film. The worst thing about a film is being royally ignored. If people don’t talk about a film in a positive or negative manner, then you have a problem in hand.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan explained, “This has never happened in the history of cinema. It is novel but there are also doubts. Today, people hesitate to watch a film in cinema even once and here, there are 2 endings, with the hope that the audience would catch two versions.”

He also appealed that there should be complete clarity on the two versions to avoid confusion. He noted, “There’s an apprehension that one might go watch the second version, to see who the alternate killer is and that person might end up watching the same version for the second time!”

Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal, meanwhile, said, “With my experience as a film distributor and exhibitor, I don’t think such an idea can work and guarantee success at the box office.”

Bollywood actor Neha Dhupia discussed how her early decisions in the film industry resulted in her being typecast. In a chat with Abhay Deol and comedian Sumukhi on The Durex Podcast, Neha shared that she gained 25 kg after pregnancy and faced trolling, but her husband, actor Angad Bedi, helped her feel beautiful and confident in her own skin.

Neha talked about being trolled for her “It’s her choice” comment on Roadies and how she was typecast in Bollywood. She explained, “Without social media also I was also kind of judged for those kind of films I did early in my career, even when I did only one or two of them. I had to change paths, and that hard part was to make people believe in me. Just because I did a movie like Julie back in the day, doesn't mean I can't do a mainstream comedy film. I felt like I was walking on eggshells later. It’s been eight years since the ‘It’s her choice’ thing happened, and even now, if I go wrong anywhere, trolls flood the comments with the same thing. Nobody understood the context of what I was trying to say.”

She clarified that the message she wanted to convey was that a woman has the right to make her own choices, which represents true freedom. This was in response to her comment on MTV Roadies, where she was misunderstood as defending a woman having five boyfriends.

She shared that now in her 40s, she’s begun prioritizing herself and feeling more comfortable in her own skin. Reflecting on how Angad supported her after pregnancy weight gain, she said, “As an actor, when I gave birth, I gained 25 kgs, but my husband made me feel beautiful. He constantly complimented me. In my mind, I felt like I was jobless, I’d get trolled every time I stepped out, and my clothes didn’t fit. Coming from a beauty pageant background, those things mattered to me, I’m not going to lie. But now, finally in my 40s, I realize those things don’t matter, and I feel like the best version of myself. Today, I feel my sexiest.”

Angad and Neha got married in a private ceremony at a gurudwara that took many by surprise. The couple welcomed their first child, Mehr Dhupia Bedi, in November 2018, followed by their second, Guriq Singh Dhupia Bedi, in 2021.

Meanwhile, Neha is currently serving as a gang leader on Roadies XX, alongside Prince Narula, Elvish Yadav, Rhea Chakraborty, and Gautam Gulati. Hosted by Rannvijay Singha, the show is scheduled to wrap up on June 1.

While Disha Patani may be known for her high-octane performances on screen and disciplined fitness routines, her downtime paints a much more grounded and relatable picture. Away from the camera and choreography, the actress finds joy in quiet Sundays, travel goals, and a handful of quirky hobbies.

“I train, then lie in bed and eat – a lot,” she laughs, describing how she likes to slow down on Sundays. For Disha, these days off are less about glam and more about geeky pleasures. She enjoys watching movies or playing video games like Pokémon and Tekken on her Nintendo Switch or PlayStation. “I’m a bit of a geek,” she admits.

Her love for Japanese culture isn’t limited to anime and gaming. A trip to Japan left a lasting impression on her. “It was like I stepped inside an anime; it was surreal,” she recalls. Enchanted by the vibrant culture and food, Disha even dreams of living there someday. “I’d love to live in Japan at some point – have one house there and one in India. That would be amazing.”

The wanderlust doesn’t end there. Antarctica has been a long-standing dream for her, inspired by countless childhood hours spent watching documentaries. “One day, I’ll go there,” she says, calling it a destination still parked on her bucket list.

When she’s not travelling or training, Disha dabbles in creative outlets — though only if they keep her interest. “I tried drums, piano… but I get bored if I don’t learn fast,” she admits. She’s also painted and played basketball in the past but hasn’t had much time for either lately. What has stayed consistent, however, is her need to keep things tidy. “I think I have OCD,” she jokes. “I’m always fixing things, arranging cupboards.” While she doesn’t call herself a perfectionist, she confesses, “I like things a certain way.”

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal turned 70 yesterday. Filmmaker and producer Mahesh Bhatt, who has worked with the actor on quite a few films like Naam, Sir and Tamanna, spoke about him in an interview with us.

Your association with Paresh Rawal is long and rewarding. When did you first meet him?

It’s difficult to peer through the mist of time and pinpoint the exact moment you meet someone, who looks like the guy next door but carries within him a volcanic talent. And yet, I vividly remember the first time I met Paresh Rawal. It was at Salim Khan Sahib’s house during the casting of Naam. We were struggling to find an actor for a particularly challenging role, the villain who becomes the roadblock in Sanjay Dutt’s path, a role that would eventually help catapult Sanjay to stardom.

What was your reaction on meeting Paresh?

I am coming to that. “This is Paresh Rawal,” said Salim Sahib. I looked up to see a shy, almost meek-looking young man, who stood up respectfully and shook my hand. I was told he had a bit part in Arjun, a film starring Sunny Deol and directed by Rahul Rawail. But do you know what gravitated me to Paresh?

Tell me?

What drew me in was not his resume—it was his passion for theatre. That was enough for me. Here was a newcomer, thirsty and trained by the stage, someone who would bring an earthiness to the role that was essential. The character was a drug baron, settled overseas but deeply rooted in India. Paresh carried that dust, that fragrance of the land, in his very soul.

You went on to together bleed brilliancy into several projects

His performance in Naam—especially the chilling scene where he warns Sanjay Dutt’s character that this business is a one-way street with “no entry” on the other side—remains etched in people’s memories. The menace in that delivery still resonates. But it was in Tamanna, Pooja Bhatt’s first National Award-winning film, that Paresh truly stole my heart. He played the role of Tiku, a transgender who raises a girl child rescued from the streets of Mumbai.

When I narrated the story to him, he was visibly shaken. He said he would give his heart to the role—and he did. I have rarely seen such total surrender to a part. He became a devotee. I recall a particular scene with Nadira ji—who plays a fading actress slipping into madness—where he gently tries to feed her. That moment, tender and heart-breaking, stands among the tallest performances I have witnessed in Indian cinema.

In my opinion, the piece de resistance of your collaboration was Sir

Sir—prior to Tamanna—where he played Veljibhai, opposite his favourite actor, Naseeruddin Shah. Naseer was stunning in the film, but it was Paresh’s grounded, layered performance that astounded everyone. He played a gangster whose hands were drenched in blood, but who remained in awe of the teacher who came to tutor his daughter. His reverence for Naseer was real, and it showed. In Kubzaa, too, again as Veljibhai, he created a semi-cult classic. Another menacing gangster, rooted in Kutch, with the scent of the earth captured on celluloid.

Your closing thoughts on one of finest actors?

As Paresh turns 70, I look back with deep fondness and gratitude. I recall how he supported a young, struggling theatre director and producer trying to stage a play in Delhi, how he never forgot his roots in NSD (National School of Drama) and the stage, and how the legacy continues through his son, Aditya Rawal. Aditya’s brilliant turn as a terrorist in Hansal Mehta’s Faraaz made me believe that the stream is flowing strong—he will not just carry the legacy forward, he might just surpass it. So here’s to you, Paresh. Seventy years young, still burning bright. You have the vitality, the bite, and the fragrance of the soil in every role you inhabit. And I have a feeling your greatest performances may still be ahead of you.

Happy Birthday, my friend.

Buckle up for the biggest laughter riot of the year as Housefull 5 hits cinemas on 6th June 2025! Helmed by celebrated director Tarun Mansukhani, this film marks a monumental cinematic milestone, bringing together 19 of Bollywood’s most loved stars in one epic comedy franchise.

Housefull 5 continues the legacy of India's longest-running comedy franchise, and this time it’s bigger, bolder, and packed with more madness than ever. Known for his vision and flair, Tarun Mansukhani has achieved what few filmmakers dare to dream, uniting 19 A-list actors in a single high-voltage entertainer.

The stellar ensemble includes: Akshay Kumar, Abhishek A Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Chitrangada Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Dino Morea, Ranjeet, Soundarya Sharma, Nikitin Dheer, and Akashdeep Sabir — promising a power-packed rollercoaster of comedy, chaos, and charisma.

Speaking about the film, director Tarun Mansukhani said,"Bringing together 19 A-listers sounds insane on paper, and it was just as mad in real life, in the best way. As director, I knew I had my work cut out. There was no ego or flair, just pure love for the story from every actor bringing madcap energy to the set. The three boys were the soul, the girls brought spark, and legends like Nana Sir, Jackie Sir, and Sanjay Sir showed why they’re icons—effortless charm and presence, it’s unreal! We improvised, laughed, and through all that chaos, my job was to hold it together and shape it into something that truly connects. Now I just hope the audience enjoys watching it as much as we did making it."

Saif Ali Khan’s versatility isn’t just limited to screen roles. Off-screen, he balances an equally demanding set of characters: father, husband, professional, son, and wears each of them with quiet grace. Recently, while speaking at the Arab Media Summit, Saif opened up about what success truly looks like to him: being present. In an industry that celebrates the non-stop hustle, Saif’s idea of success is refreshingly different — one rooted in stillness, routine, and choosing family over frenzy.

He spoke about the moments that matter, the everyday ones that rarely make headlines but define who we are when the cameras stop rolling. He came home before his children fell asleep, took time off during school holidays, and called both his mother and his kids because that’s what this chapter of life demands. “I hate coming home and seeing the kids already asleep. That’s not success. Success is being able to say, ‘No, I need to go home now to catch that half hour with them.’”

“We get four holidays a year, and when my kids are on break, I don’t work. That time is sacred.” Reflecting on this phase of life, Saif said, “I’m at that crazy age where I have to call both my mom and my children. You think it’s just your parents you have to check on, then you realise it’s both.”

A post shared by Kareena Kapoor Khan (@kareenakapoorkhan)

But more than just being there, Saif spoke about the importance of showing up in the little ways. The kind that don’t get documented, but hold everything together. “Working is important, yes. But so is cooking pasta together, having a meal, and focusing on the kids. That’s the real glue of life.” His perspective is clear and grounded. Real success lies not in the spotlight but in the quiet moments. At the dinner table. On school breaks. In choosing time over attention. “Success and privilege, for me, is being able to say no to work and yes to time with my family.”

Sonakshi Sinha is back on the big screen with a vengeance. On May 29, the actress took to social media to unveil the official poster of her upcoming psychological thriller, Nikita Roy. The film, which marks her return to theatres after 2024's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, is set to hit cinemas worldwide on June 27, 2025.

The poster features Sonakshi in an intense close-up, exuding a serious, almost ominous presence. Alongside her, the ensemble cast includes Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal, and Suhail Nayyar. The film is directed by Kussh S Sinha and produced under the banners of Nicky Vicky Bhagnani Films, Kratos Entertainment, and Nikita Pai Films Ltd. A New Chapter in Sonakshi Sinha’s Career While Nikita Roy will mark Sonakshi’s first theatrical lead since Double XL in 2022 and the ensemble action film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in 2024, the actress hasn’t been away from screens. In recent years, she expanded her repertoire with digital ventures, including the horror-comedy Kakuda (ZEE5) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar on Netflix.

The official synopsis of Nikita Roy is still under wraps, but the poster hints at a dark, possibly psychological narrative with mystery elements.

Earlier, the producers, in a joint statement, said, “This film is very close to our hearts. It dares to tread where most mainstream films don't and explores a genre we truly believe audiences are ready for. With a powerful cast, a gripping narrative, and Kussh S Sinha's unique vision, we can't wait for the world to experience Nikita Roy on the big screen.”

As Indian cinema approaches the 100th birth anniversary of Guru Dutt, plans are underway to commemorate his life and legacy on a grand scale. Ultra Media & Entertainment Group, which owns the rights to his filmography, has revealed a multi-layered tribute. It will also include the possibility of a biopic and web series adaptations of his most celebrated works.

Biopic in the Pipeline; Vicky Kaushal a Potential Lead Rajat Agrawal, COO and Director at Ultra Media, confirmed that early discussions have begun for a full-length biopic on the legendary filmmaker. A report by Mid-Day quoted Rajat saying, "Biopics are always challenging because they need to emulate an individual’s greatness and achievements. We would be happy to collaborate with producers and a modern-day director who is a fanatic of Guru Dutt," while noting that the company is in talks with two prominent directors.

When asked about who could portray the complexity and sensitivity of Guru Dutt on screen, Agrawal pointed to Vicky Kaushal as a possible candidate. “Naming one actor would be difficult as there is a plethora of talent, but I feel Vicky Kaushal can bring Guru Duttji’s emotional depth,” he added.

In addition to the biopic, Ultra is exploring the idea of adapting some of Dutt’s acclaimed films into web series. While no formal announcements have been made, Agrawal revealed that two well-known directors have shown interest in reimagining the filmmaker’s stories for the digital space. Restored Versions Unveiled at Cannes 2025 Earlier this month, Ultra Media presented restored versions of Guru Dutt's cinematic landmarks — Pyaasa (1957), Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960), and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962) — at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, receiving warm response from global audiences. The move is part of a larger initiative to reintroduce Dutt’s works to contemporary viewers while preserving their original charm.

Agrawal emphasized that the restorations stay true to the original black-and-white aesthetic, though a few songs might be colourised as an experiment. “All his movies have been restored in the original black-and-white version to give the same nostalgic feel. However, we are looking at colourising a few songs to see the audience’s reaction.” Nationwide Tribute Ahead of Birth Anniversary In the run-up to Guru Dutt’s birth centenary on July 9, a week-long celebration is being planned across India. The initiative will include theatrical re-releases of the restored classics, curated exhibitions, and panel discussions featuring leading voices from the Indian film industry. The aim is to revisit the genius of a filmmaker who captured human emotion with rare sensitivity and cinematic innovation.

I was going aaram se listening to songs when suddenly he came in front of me and said ‘Master chahiye mujhe abhi ke abhi’!” Bhushan Kumar, too, couldn’t stop laughing over this incident.

Another special highlight was when the whole team of the film came on stage and performed on ‘Zamaana Lage’. This was followed by an unplugged version by Pritam and a performance of an unreleased track from the film.

In a candid new interview with Hindi Rush, actor Sooraj Pancholi spoke at length about his mother, veteran actress Zarina Wahab, praising her for being the emotional and financial backbone of their family. The Hero actor described her as self-made, resilient, and unwavering in her decisions, despite the many personal challenges she has faced over the years.

“I would love to be a father like my father, and I would love to be a partner like my mother," said Sooraj. “She holds the whole family together, and she has really been through a lot because of us. I have never, ever seen her break down. She has never complained about anything… She’s making her own money, she has never taken even one rupee from my father," he continued.

Highlighting her professional journey, Sooraj pointed out that Zarina Wahab has been working since she was a teenager. “She’s been acting since the age of 16; she’s almost 65 now. She is self-made. She has four homes of her own. She doesn’t come from money. If she wanted to leave, she could have done it long back. Sometimes, women don’t leave because they don’t have backup… She had a route to go to Hyderabad; she has a home in Bandra also. She has her mother’s home in Bandra. She has four sisters, one of them is in America. She has four brothers. She could have left any time, but it’s her decision to stay. I can’t judge their arrangement," he stated hinting at the complex dynamic between his parents.

In an earlier interview, Zarina Wahab had indirectly acknowledged husband Aditya Pancholi’s extramarital affairs, sparking debate. She had shared that while he doesn’t get his affairs home, when he enters the house, he is an excellent father and husband. Wahab further added that how many men, despite having affairs, run their family. The veteran actress had insisted that she doesn’t take these things seriously, a revelation that had surprised many.

Despite past controversies, Sooraj Pancholi’s tribute paints a picture of a woman who chose to stay on her terms, without ever compromising on her dignity or independence. Meanwhile, speaking of Jr. Pancholi himself, the actor, who himself faced several controversies himself, made his big screen comeback with Kesari Veer last week, as the film hit theatres on May 23.

A day after celebrating his 53rd birthday, Karan Johar unveiled the release date of his next production, Dhadak 2. Starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii

Dimri in lead roles, the film is slated to hit cinemas on August 1, 2025. The announcement came alongside two emotionally charged posters, offering a glimpse into the film’s intense narrative.

In both posters, Siddhant and Triptii are seen in a tearful embrace, set against a moody blue backdrop. The tagline, “Marne aur ladne mein se ek ko chunna ho… to ladna,” signals a story steeped in resistance and resilience. The rawness of the visuals suggests that Dhadak 2 will diverge significantly from the tone of its predecessor.

CBFC Roadblock Cleared With Cuts Earlier this year, Bollywood Hungama was the first to report that Dhadak 2 had run into trouble at the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film, based on caste oppression, was initially stuck due to its sensitive content. It has now been cleared with a U/A 16+ rating, though not without significant alterations.

According to The Hindu, several dialogues were revised, especially those referencing caste history and discrimination. Phrases like “3,000 years of backlog” and caste-specific slurs were replaced or muted. A scene involving public urination was removed entirely, while another sequence showing the humiliation of a character’s father was trimmed. The CBFC also modified a poem recital and requested a revised disclaimer, now extended to 1 minute and 51 seconds and to be read aloud during the film. Run Time and Background Dhadak 2 is a Hindi adaptation of the 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, directed by Mari Selvaraj. The remake is helmed by Shazia Iqbal, who makes her directorial debut with the project. With a runtime of 2 hours and 26 minutes, the film aims to bring caste-based social injustice to the forefront, a thematic pivot from the romanticism of the original Dhadak (2018).

It is produced by Dharma Productions in association with Zee Studios and Cloud 9 Pictures.

John Abraham launched the graphic novel, ‘Lakadbaggha: The Prologue’, written by actor-filmmaker Anshuman Jha and illustrated by American Comic book artist Brittain Peck. The novel is based on the film Lakadbaggha (2023), which starred Anshuman in the lead role of an animal vigilante. Ridhi Dogra, who also featured in the film, also graced the launch. At the event, John Abraham gave some headline-worthy quotes and also confirmed his upcoming projects.

John Abraham revealed, “Very interestingly, my director has written a comic book called ‘Munkeeman’. We are making a film on it now. It's interesting to talk about it. The name of the director is Abhishek Sharma. I have done a film with him called Parmanu (2018). He's a very smart and intelligent guy. The subject matter is something very interesting. I love animals and that's why we are doing that movie.”

‘Munkeeman’ was launched in 2012. It is inspired by the Monkey Man incident that occurred that year in Delhi. The synopsis of the book on the internet is as follows, “In the summer of 2001 a strange creature created panic and chaos in the city of Delhi. No one had an explanation or clue about his true identity. Then suddenly one day he vanished, never to return until today Munkeeman is back. And he wants you to know that he is not a monster, but India’s own authentic superhero.” Abhishek Sharma also directed films like Tere Bin Laden (2010) and Ram Setu (2022).

Meanwhile, John Abraham looked dashing, especially with his new moustache look. A reporter asked if it was his look for the Rakesh Maria biopic. John Abraham said, “Ji.” When asked about his experience of doing the film, he replied, “Very good,” and refused to speak further. The Rakesh Maria biopic is directed by blockbuster director Rohit Shetty.

Bipasha Basu is revisiting one of the boldest and most defining roles of her career — her 2003 film Jism. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, the actress shared how her decision to take up the film was met with strong opposition from everyone around her, including her own manager.

“Jism was the time when I was at the peak, and everyone told me you cannot do adult content film. You are like the typical Hindi heroine who is established in people's hearts now. And I said, I just like the story so much. I said I'll go ahead and do it. Everybody stopped me from doing it. My manager thought I had gone crazy,” Bipasha recalled.

The film, which co-starred John Abraham and featured a sultry narrative, went on to become a critical and commercial success. It not only pushed the envelope in terms of content but also redefined Bipasha's image in the industry—from a conventional Bollywood heroine to a risk-taker who wasn’t afraid of breaking stereotypes.

Looking back, Bipasha believes Jism didn’t just change her career trajectory but also sparked a style revolution among women at the time. “It worked for me and then things changed. Women suddenly were tonging their hair. They wore a bronze look. There was no stereotypical (thing) that the woman can't play the negative character. It all changed after that. So, it's been path-breaking for me. That has been one very important film,” she said.

Directed by Amit Saxena and produced by Pooja Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt, Jism marked a new chapter in Bollywood’s portrayal of sensuality and female characters, with Bipasha taking on a bold and complex role that few actresses at the time were willing to explore. Her performance in Jism received widespread acclaim, and the film is still remembered today for its bold storytelling, music, and aesthetic visuals. More importantly, it opened up space for female actors to explore darker, more layered roles without being confined to traditional portrayals.

Speaking of her current work commitments, Bipasha Basu has been exploring multiple avenues along with motherhood. The actress is yet to announce about her comeback projects.

The ongoing controversy surrounding Hera Pheri 3 has taken a fresh turn with veteran actor Paresh Rawal's legal team addressing claims against him. In a conversation with Times of India, Rawal’s lawyer clarified that the actor was never presented with a script or any substantial content from the team working under Akshay Kumar’s production banner.

Rawal’s legal team has also questioned the grounds on which the production house is claiming losses when, according to them, no material—script or agreement—was in place in the first place. According to recent reports, a legal notice has been sent to Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal by none other than the original producer – Firoz Nadiadwala. The notice reportedly prohibits all four from participating in any promos, endorsements, or activities related to the Hera Pheri franchise. It further claimed that proceeding with such activities will be considered a wilful breach, asserting that the intellectual property (IP) rights to all characters, including Babu Bhaiya, lie with Nadiadwala.

Sources close to the actor also revealed that Akshay Kumar had assured Rawal, saying, “Don’t worry, trust me. You’ll see it later in the longform agreement.” Based on this assurance and his longstanding rapport with Kumar, Paresh Rawal is expected to have signed the term sheet in good faith. The promo for Hera Pheri 3 was eventually shot on a modified version of the Bhooth Bangla set. However, it was initially intended for a 2026 start, and Rawal had suggested postponing the promo shoot to the following year. As of now, the actor has not received any long-term agreement, script, or formal production information, sources added.

Reports also suggested that the actor has a deep-rooted connection with the beloved character of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, popularly known as Babu Bhaiya, and hence, sought clarity before proceeding further with the project.

The actor’s legal team told Times of India, “Admittedly, they did not deliver the story, screenplay and also a draft of a long form agreement which was fundamental to the engagement of our client. In the absence of these and also since Mr. Nadiadwala, the producer of the original films, issued notice to our client and raised issues on the making of the film, our client chose to exit and returned the money with interest by terminating the Term sheet.”

With mounting legal tensions and blame games, the fate of Hera Pheri 3 remains uncertain.

The recent row between Bhool Chuk Maaf and PVR has brought to the fore many complaints from the producers about the national chains. One of them is that the makers are asked to pay if they want to put up posters or standees and to play trailers of their films. Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, wrote on his social media pages, “Asking for monies to be paid for trailer playing, film publicity displays at their sites, cinemas which are already in red are further going downhill. With OTT onslaught sitting on their head, they should instead comfort producers & give them ease of doing business, so that more makers are encouraged to take risks & choose the big screen release instead... the exhibition community should avoid nailing their own coffin !!”

We asked Girish Johar to comment more on this aspect. He said, “The cinemas have started asking monies against showcasing film publicity, be it trailers, digital posters, video walls, etc. It is apparently one of the major sources of revenue for theatres. A certain set of producers have started paying for it. This puts the pressure on even other producers. Small-time filmmakers tend to give in. To each its own I feel. But there should not be a blanket rule for everyone in this regard.”

A multiplex official on condition of anonymity revealed how this model works, “They charge Rs. 10,000 per property roughly for it. But usually, they do a package deal. They’ll ask you to pay Rs. 15-20 lakhs. In return, they’ll not just install your film standee and digital poster but also play the trailer of the film, that too in 200-250 of their multiplexes. Sometimes, the deal also includes the film banner on the multiplex’s website or booking app. The producers include this spend under ‘marketing activity’. It’s an additional cost to the producer.”

The official continued, “Pre-pandemic, this used to happen very rarely. But post-pandemic, this has increased as everything is under the red. They realized this is a nice way to earn additional moolah, not realizing that they are killing the same hand that feeds them.”

A duty manager from a prominent multiplex said, “Many non-national chains don’t charge at all for posters or standees. We put it up for free. However, playing the trailer incurs a charge.”

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, commented on this matter saying, “I have heard that the multiplexes charge. I am not sure whether they are doing it or not. But if they do, toh isse bada ghatiya kaam aur kuchh nahin ho sakta hai! If a shopkeeper sells Coca-Cola and decided to install its standee, is he going to charge for it from the soft drink brand? Of course not. This doesn’t happen in any business.”

He continued, “This is the reason why the multiplex business is so messed up in India. These multiplexes, especially PVR Inox, have completely destroyed the sheer fabric of the exhibition sector. It’s no wonder that in 1995, there were 25,000 screens in India before the multiplex era. 30 years later, the number has down to 9000.”

Producer Pahlaj Nihalani, who runs a revamped single-screen Nishat in Mumbai, lashed out at this practice. He said, “PVR Inox has been charging for it since the very start. Then, a lot of new producers came in. Also, many actors turned producers. These people had no qualms about paying for it. Soon, it became a standard practice. What is saddening is that there’s a possibility that your film might not play in some theatres where your trailer is being screened. A viewer has come to see ‘A’ film; he’ll see the trailer of ‘B’ film in the interval and decides to watch it. But then, the film might not get showcasing in that cinema hall. Isn’t that unfair to the producers and also to the moviegoers?”

He made it clear that in the single-screen era, there was never a question of paying to play trailers or install standees. “They never charged and even now, they don’t,” he added. “However, if the projection system in a single screen is provided by a third party like UFO, then they’ll charge.”

Pahlaj continued, “Single screens continue to have great relations with filmmakers. Sadly, the same can’t be said about the multiplexes. They squeeze money in every way possible from us. They are killing new talent and ruining the film business.”

He also said that this practice hurts makers but there’s no solution to it, “There’s no industry leader among producers who can talk about these things. Most of them have isolated fights. It happened with Dinesh Vijan (with Bhool Chuk Maaf). Earlier, Ronnie Screwvala was also alone when he spoke about VPF. His next film (Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota; 2019) didn’t get shows in some theatres as he went against them. Imagine if all the producers rise together and decide not to give films to them. Phir yeh log kahan jaayenge?”

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh, however, had a different point of view, “Today, everything is commercial. The multiplexes are allowing the space in their property to install the standee and are also playing the trailer on the screen. Hence, they feel that they need to be compensated because even they are paying higher rent. It’s a circle.”

He added, “I have seen standees being put up of OTT show. Their promo is also screened before the film or during the interval. The multiplexes obviously would charge for it. Why would they play for free?”

Vishek Chauhan, meanwhile, continues to have reservations on this model. He said, “Theatres should not be charging for all this. It’s a matter of pride to put up a poster in your theatres. That’s our primary job – to promote films. If films work, I’ll be at an advantage. And if I am asking the producer to pay for it, then nothing can be more shameless.”
