Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2005) completed 20 years on April 15 and its surely a film that has stood the test of time. It was one of the first films of Shiney Ahuja and launched the ravishing and talented Chitrangda Singh. Both these powerful actors were joined by the equally powerful Kay Kay Menon. As Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi celebrated its 20th anniversary, Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to its acclaimed director Sudhir Mishra about the film, its butchered OTT version and a lot more.

I could see many French names in the cast and crew of Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. Please tell us about this French connection to the film… Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi began in the mid-90s. The script was written by me and Shiv Kumar Subramaniam. We jammed for a year and I told him many stories of my childhood. Only I could have made the film and nobody else because it comes from a personal space. It’s about things that have happened to me or those around me while I was growing up.

In the mid-90s, I went around hawking the script to many places. Through Shabana Azmi, I took it to Ismail Merchant, Channel 4 and later to the French. I met a producer, Joël Farges, and his company is called Artcam; they agreed to step in. Through Joël, we applied for funds in France. It was approved but we only got a part of the budget. We still needed money from an Indian counterpart. For a year, I tried to raise money. Then, one day, I met Pritish Nandy on a flight. He noticed that I looked worried. I explained to him my situation. He asked me, ‘How much money do you want?’. I replied, ‘A little less than Rs. 2 crores’. I also narrated him the story of the film and he asked me to meet him the next day in his office. That’s how Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi happened.

That’s the French connection. When they give you money, they have a condition – either you have to use French technicians or you have to complete the post-production in France. If you see All We Imagine As Light (2024), its post-production happened in France for the same reason. In my case, I decided to use a French DOP (Jacques Bouquin), editor (Catherine D'Hoir) and sound recordist (Jean-Claude Brisson). All of them were brilliant.

Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi is also memorable as it launched many people… I was very angry while making it and I was clear that I didn’t want actors who were known. Therefore, we went looking for new faces. Also, people forget that Swananand Kirkire was my associate director on Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi; he was not just the singer-songwriter. He wanted to be a director then. He was a part of the film till the end. He had written ‘Bawra Mann’ and I assured him that I’d use it in the film. And I did use, during the end titles. As Shiney puts his head on Chitrangda’s shoulders, ‘Bawra Mann’ plays. The placement of the song is such that it makes you sit down and process. The audience doesn’t immediately get up from their seats.

What was the total cost of the film? It was roughly less than Rs. 3 crores.

As per the censor certificate, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi was certified on October 24, 2003, and it was released only 1 ½ years later… Yes, it took a while as it was a difficult film to be released. It was a bad time in Indian cinema. There were very few multiplexes in the country. There was no social media either. Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi is a film which was publicized by those who saw it then, through text messages or by calling their friends and loved ones. Also, it did reasonably well. It ran for 8 weeks in 3 theatres in Mumbai and also for 10 weeks in Delhi. Sadly, many also consumed the film on pirated prints. Now, everywhere I go, many know me by Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. It is unfortunate for my other films though!

Did the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ask for any cuts? During the first stage, they did. I had to go to the Revising Committee. Then, it was passed. When it was released in 2005, there was the UPA government. Therefore, they didn’t consider the film for the National Awards.

I happened to catch the film again on Amazon Prime Video and I was shocked to see many scenes are cut. The film begins with the iconic speech of Mr Jawaharlal Nehru followed by your observation about the ex-Prime Minister’s ‘horological mistake’. The Amazon version begins straight with the text, thus cutting out the speech. The riot scenes that follow this text have also been deleted. Vikram’s (Shiney Ahuja) intro voiceover is cut halfway. Vikram looking at Siddharth’s (Kay Kay Menon) mansion and remarking ‘And these guys are supposed to be Marxists’ is also chopped off. There are many other shots that have been butchered… I don’t know why those parts have been cut. I really find it odd. I don’t own the film. I have been saying this for the long time that the beginning of the film – Nehru’s speech – is not there. I have no idea why they have done that. Earlier, it was on Netflix; even there, it was cut. I don’t know who edited it. Maybe, you should ask PNC (Pritish Nandy Communcations)

Do you think it is possible to make a film like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi in today’s times? If I wanted to make a film, I would have tried. I am not that kind of sensationalist that I’ll make a statement that I couldn’t have made this film in the present day. I made Afwaah (2023), which is far more aggressive than Hazaaron. I also made Serious Men (2020), which is about a Dalit man. I am now making a film about the JP Movement. Hence, I’ll make the film I want to make. If I can’t tell, then I’ll tell you. If I start saying that it is difficult for me to make films, what will happen to the young and aspiring filmmakers?

Also, every society has some weak points and default lines. We need to learn to circumvent them. Look like how Iranians make films in a certain way. Even the Americans are required to make films in a certain way. There’s no such thing as absolute freedom! Go to Europe now and you’ll realize this aspect even more. Therefore, one should not get bogged down by imaginary fears.

It’s the era of re-releases. Would you like to re-release Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi? I want it to be re-released. When Pritish Nandy was alive, I had asked him. But now he is no more. Nevertheless, I’ll ask Rangita Pritish Nandy. I didn’t ask earlier as Pritish had just passed away. But now, I will bring this topic up.

Producer Prerna Arora got talking about the debate over star kids, her upcoming venture and the accusations of financial irregularity levied against her in an interview with us.

The never-ending debate on star kids continues. Your take on this?

There are good and bad in every walk of life. There are the talented star children and the not-so-talented ones. Sir, are you trying to say all outsiders deserve success? The ones who are talented get their due. Akshay sir and now Kartik Aaryan are outsiders who became superstars. And what about the two biggest superstars of Hindi cinema Amitabh sir and Rajesh Khanna ji… Did they have relatives in the film industry?

So, would you like to work with the star kids?

I would definitely like to work with some of them like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan and among the newcomers Babil Khan who seems to have inherited his father’s intensity. Some of the others I would pass.

Whom would you pass?

Sir, am I stupid to tell you that? It is never nice to speak ill of anyone, especially those who are just starting out. They are all children, precious to their parents. Would I like it if someone spoke ill of my child when I have one? We must give them space to grow.

You shot recently in the South with Sudheer Babu for Jatadhara. Was that good?

It was not just good, sir. It was a revealing experience. The discipline, the work ethics, the value of time… all of these and many other factors made my shooting in the South a memorable experience. And why are we talking South-North? Didn’t we cross that line long back?

You have recently been accused of financial irregularity?

We all value our reputation. I am not going to allow anyone to slander me.

Her look featured a sculptural antique gold breastplate detailed with ghungroos and crystals. At the center of the design were two connected forms—Mother Heart and Baby Heart—linked by a chain symbolizing the umbilical bond. The visual narrative of the gown extended into a dramatic double-panelled cape, a tribute to the late fashion editor André Leon Talley, known for his towering silhouettes and influence on fashion history.

Speaking about her debut, Kiara said, “Making my Met Gala debut at this point in my life, as both an artist and mother-to-be feels incredibly special. When my stylist, Anaita, approached Gaurav to design my look, he created 'Bravehearts', a vision that honours the transformative phase I’m stepping into connecting it beautifully to this year's dress code ‘Tailored for You.’ Inspired by the legacy of André Leon Talley, we reflected on what it means to show up with intention, individuality, and strength. This is a silent tribute to that — it’s a reminder that everything we do paves the way for the next generation.”

Veteran Indian actor Prakash Raj has publicly opposed the ban on the upcoming Bollywood film Abir Gulaal, starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor, arguing that audiences should have the freedom to choose what they watch. In a candid interview with The Lallantop, Raj condemned the growing trend of film bans in India, calling it a deliberate tactic to instil fear and stifle creative expression.

The romantic drama, directed by Aarti S. Bagdi and slated for release on 9 May, was halted following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April, which claimed 26 lives. The attack prompted a backlash against the film, with the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) renewing its boycott of Pakistani artists and the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirming the film would not be released in India. Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) also vowed to block screenings in Maharashtra, citing Khan’s Pakistani nationality.

The Singham actor rejected the censorship, stating, “I’m not for banning any films, whether it’s right-wing or propaganda. Let people decide. You can’t ban films unless it’s pornography or about child abuse. But a thought process? So what? Let them come.” He criticised the hypersensitivity driving such decisions, referencing past controversies like the threats against Deepika Padukone during Padmaavat (2018) and the uproar over a saffron bikini in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (2023). “Today, anybody can get hurt,” he remarked, pointing to a culture of manufactured outrage.

The actor also highlighted selective censorship, noting that films like The Kashmir Files faced no hurdles, while others, such as L2: Empuraan, were targeted despite clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). “There’s a conscious attempt by every powerful central government to be intolerant of questioning,” Raj said, warning that excessive power breeds intolerance and erodes freedom of expression.

Abir Gulaal, shot in London, was poised to mark Khan’s return to Bollywood after a nine-year hiatus, following his last appearance in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). The film’s teaser, showcasing Khan and Kapoor’s chemistry, had initially sparked excitement among fans, but the Pahalgam attack reignited tensions, leading to the removal of its songs from YouTube India.

In the fifth episode of The Filmy Hustle, hosted by distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi, Kabir Khan opened up on his journey and what went behind the making of his memorable films. He revealed fascinating trivia about his third venture, Ek Tha Tiger (2012), starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. This film, in a way, has two epic entry scenes of the superstar. One is when his face is actually revealed and one is during the opening titles when Salman appears in a silhouette shot.

Kabir began by saying, “Today, a lot of people talk about the entry of Ek Tha Tiger. However, it was not written (in the script). There are a lot of things you do organically. Because of my documentary training, I react a lot to space, situations, props, etc.”

He added, “We wanted a location which looked fabulous and which had never been used by any other Hollywood action thriller. I read about this one location on the Turkey-Syria border (Mardin). I saw its photographs and was wowed by the brown mud houses on a hill. Nobody had ever shot there. Later, I realized why nobody had used it as it was really difficult to shoot over there (smiles)! It’s difficult to access.”

Kabir Khan continued, “I saw the hill from a distance and I realized that I’d love to see Tiger come in a silhouette and stand over here before I start my story. Hence, it was a reaction to the location and light conditions. I had not written in my script that there would be a hill town with muddy houses and Tiger would enter in silhouette. I knew it would be an iconic shot. And it went on to become an iconic shot!”

He smiled and stated, “When I went to the first-day screening of Ek Tha Tiger at Gaiety-Galaxy, that silhouette shot came in and the whole cinema erupted.”

He also said, “That scarf went on to become an iconic symbol of Tiger. I always wore the scarf when I was shooting in Afghanistan as a rule. Even today, I wear these scarves while I am shooting. I was also wearing it when I was doing the look test for Ek Tha Tiger. I realized that something was amiss. This is when I removed my scarf and gave it to Salman. He put it on and there it was! Hence, a lot of things happen with your gut instinct and spontaneity.”

A R Rahman appeared on stage at around 6:50 pm and began the show by performing on ‘Jai Ho’ from Slumdog Millionaire. Soon, Jonita joined her on stage and they performed on ‘Muqabla’ (Humse Hai Muqabala; 1994). Rahman also performed solo on ‘Urvasi’, which is also from the same film. Some of the other songs sung by the team were ‘Tere Bina’ and ‘Barso Re’ (Guru; 2007), ‘Enna Sona’ (OK Jaanu; 2017), ‘Vida Karo’ (Amar Singh Chamkila; 2024), ‘Rehna Tu’ (Delhi-6; 2009), ‘Kahin Aag Lage’ (Taal; 1999), ‘Satrangi Re’ and ‘Dil Se Re’ (Dil Se; 1998), etc. During the performance of ‘Tu Hi Re’ (Bombay; 1994), fans were encouraged to switch on their flashlights.

Zanai Bhosle came on stage and an audio of her legendary grandmother Asha Bhosle was played. In the voice note, Asha Bhosle requested fans to give the same amount of love to her granddaughter that has been showered on her. She performed on ‘Rangeela Re’ (Rangeela; 1995) and got a lot of appreciation.

A R Rahman then introduced Sukhwinder Singh, calling him a legend. Sukhwinder, in return, said, “A R Rahman is not my Godfather. He is my ‘God friend’!” There was a frenzy as spectators knew that the energy levels would now go high. And as expected, the singer set the stage on fire as he sang ‘Ramta Jogi’ (Taal). Both the legends performed on the song ‘Jinguchaa’ from Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film Thug Life. The excitement dipped as many were not aware of the track. Nevertheless, fans continued to enjoy the experience.

A surprise entry was that of Mohit Chauhan. He sang ‘Sadda Haq’ from Rockstar (2011) and also joined A R Rahman in performing on the crowd favourite, ‘Kun Faya Kun’ from the same film. Mohit also crooned ‘Ishq Mitaaye’ from Amar Singh Chamkila.

The crowd then couldn’t believe their eyes when none other than Dhanush suddenly walked onto the stage. He and A R Rahman then sang ‘Adangaatha Asuran’ from Raayan. It was the only non-Hindi track sung by the artists at the concert and it got a fine response.

Throughout the concert, fans kept demanding for ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ and A R Rahman saved the best from the last. The moment a female singer began by singing ‘Jinke sar ho ishq ki chaao’, the craze was seen to be believed. Sukhwinder Singh once again came on stage and rocked the show with his performance.

And that’s not all. The Oscar-winning music maestro ended the show on a patriotic note by singing ‘Vande Mataram’. It was truly a goosebumps experience for every spectator present in the stadium.

The concert was not without its share of blemishes. The graphics on the screen, during some songs, were like a 90s wedding video. Some also complained that A R Rahman’s mic quality was not up to the mark. Hence, whenever he spoke to the fans, a few of his words were not entirely audible. Thankfully, these were minor complaints and overall, the experience was truly fantastic.

In what promises to be one of the most electrifying face-offs in recent Bollywood history, Akshay Kumar is set to take a dark turn in Priyadarshan’s upcoming thriller opposite Saif Ali Khan. While Bollywood Hungama was the first to report on Akshay Kumar joining the cast of the Hindi remake of Oppam, we now have an exclusive update on the superstar's role—and it's bound to surprise his fans.

According to a well-placed industry insider, Akshay Kumar will be playing the villain in this edge-of-the-seat thriller. “While Saif Ali Khan takes on the lead role, it’s Akshay who will be cast in a menacing avatar. The film is essentially a high-stakes battle between Akshay and Saif, and they’re going to go all out against each other. It’s going to be a gripping and intense watch,” the source revealed.

This marks a rare departure for Akshay Kumar, who is known for his heroic turns in action-packed dramas and comedies alike. His decision to play an antagonist in a Priyadarshan thriller adds a fresh dimension to both his career and the film's anticipation.

Priyadarshan, known for crafting some of Indian cinema’s most memorable comedies and dramas, is reuniting with Akshay after several years. The duo has given audiences beloved hits like Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Garam Masala. However, this collaboration ventures into darker, more psychological territory, as it adapts Mohanlal’s acclaimed Malayalam film Oppam for Hindi audiences.

The film is scheduled to go on floors in August 2025 with a start-to-finish schedule, and is targeting a release in the second half of 2026. With Saif Ali Khan anchoring the lead role and Akshay Kumar stepping into the antagonist’s shoes, expectations are sky-high for a riveting showdown under Priyadarshan’s seasoned direction.

As fans gear up for this unexpected twist in casting, the Saif-Akshay dynamic, bolstered by Priyadarshan’s trademark storytelling, is all set to redefine thriller entertainment in Bollywood.

The Ajay Devgn-starrer Raid 2 has taken a solid start, collecting Rs. 19.71 crores. The opening day number was a surprise as the industry expected the film to open under Rs. 15 crores. It held very well on the second day as well and it is now all set to collect nearly Rs. 70 crores in its four-day weekend. Realizing that the film will hold strongly even on the weekdays, the distributors have taken a significant step, Bollywood Hungama has learned.

Yesterday, the distributors of Raid 2 mailed exhibitors throughout the country with a request. A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “The distributors first thanked their exhibition partners for their support in playing the film. They also informed that Raid 2 is doing exceedingly well in all the territories of the country. They then made two requests. Firstly, they asked them to not drop the prices to normal on weekdays. Raid 2 is playing with popular pricing on the weekdays and cinemas were asked to keep the same rates on the weekdays as well as the second weekend.”

The source continued, “The distributors further requested the cinemas to not run any special offers on the weekdays of the first week. This means that the newly launched Tuesday 99 offer should be exempted for Raid 2. Similarly, any such scheme like Women Wednesday or any special discount for school and college kids should also not be enforced for their film.”

The Tuesday offer was launched by PVR Inox from April 8. Called ‘Blockbuster Tuesdays’, it involves the properties of PVR and Inox selling tickets for normal seats for just Rs. 99 and Rs. 149. Since the multiplex chain owns a large chunk of properties, the other theatres and multiplex chains realized that they’d be at a disadvantage if they didn’t offer tickets for cheaper prices. Hence, almost all theatres also followed suit. This resulted in slightly higher collections on Tuesdays for films like Jaat and Kesari Chapter 2.

Bollywood Hungama was the first one to break the news that Salman Khan is planning a film named Ganga Ram, co-starring Sanjay Dutt. It was to be directed by debutant director Krish Ahir. A few days later, Bollywood Hungama reported that while Salman Khan will essay the role of a character named Ganga, Sanjay Dutt will reprise the role of a man named Ram in this action entertainer. These news reports spread like wild fire and also got a lot of negativity, especially among the die-hard fans of Salman. Bollywood Hungama has now learned that the superstar has decided to put the film on the backburner.

A source told us, “Fans were up in arms when they heard that Salman is planning a film named Ganga Ram. The news came days after Salman’s Sikandar was released and became a huge debacle. The fans feared that Ganga Ram might not work as intended and it’ll further impact the star power of Salman Khan. Hence, they created an uproar on social media over this film.”

The source added, “Salman Khan learned about the reactions of the fans. He also met some of his fans a few days after Sikandar’s release. Fans expressed their concern over this film and Salman assured that he’ll look into their issues. A few days later, he decided to put this project on hold. He’s now looking at scripts from other filmmakers like Kabir Khan, Ali Abbas Zafar, Sooraj Barjatya, etc.” Bollywood Hungama also reported that Salman Khan is in talks with Apoorva Lakhia for a film on the Galwan Valley 2020 incident.

An industry insider lauded Salman Khan and his fans saying, “Usually, fans of other actors are in denial mode when their favourite star delivers a debacle. They continue to defend the actor. But Salman Khan fans are unique. They accepted that Sikandar was not up to the mark and they also broke the internet with their displeasure over Ganga Ram.”

The insider continued, “And Salman is also one of a kind. He met his fans after Sikandar bombed. Which star does that? He heard them patiently and is now taking concrete steps so that his fan base is not dejected. This is what makes Salman Khan a true-blue star. There’s no doubt that with this approach, he’ll bounce back.”

Singer Sonu Nigam is facing trouble after a police complaint was lodged against him by a pro-Kannada organization. The complaint, filed by the President of the Bengaluru city district unit of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), accuses Nigam of making comments that hurt the sentiments of the Kannadiga community. The complaint alleges that Nigam compared a fan’s request for a Kannada song to a terrorist attack, potentially inciting hatred between linguistic communities.

The incident took place last month during a musical concert at East Point College of Engineering and Technology in Virgonagar, Bengaluru. A video from the event went viral, showing Nigam recounting how a fan had pressured him to sing in Kannada. In the clip, the singer appeared visibly upset by the interaction.

Sonu said, “Mujhe accha nahin laga ki wahan ek ladka jiski umar, jitni uske umar nahin hogi us se pehle toh main Kannada gaane ga raha hoon.”

“Yahi kaaran hai, Pahalgam mein jo hua hai na? Yahi kaaran hai jo kar rahe ho, jo kiya tha na abhi? Dekho toh kaun saamne khada hai,” he added.

Although the singer clarified during the concert that he holds deep respect for Kannadigas and the Kannada language, his remarks connecting the fan's behavior to the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack caused widespread outrage.

The complaint filed by KRV stated, “Sonu Nigam’s statements have caused severe distress to the Kannadiga community. By equating a simple cultural request to sing a Kannada song with a terrorist act, Shri Nigam has portrayed Kannadigas as intolerant or violent, which is contrary to their peace-loving and harmonious nature.”

The terror attack in Pahalgam, which took place on April 22, resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, mostly tourists. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and intensified concerns over suspected cross-border terrorism.

The issue has since escalated, with demands for a formal apology from the singer. However, no legal action has been taken so far, apart from the filing of the complaint.

Ajay Devgn, known for his no-nonsense persona, has finally addressed the persistent rumours about him and wife Kajol owning a private jet. The buzz has been around for years, with many believing that the star couple enjoys jet-setting across destinations in their personal aircraft. However, in a recent episode of BookMyShow Unscripted on YouTube, Devgn cleared the air.

Dismissing the claims, he said, “No, not at all. I was planning to buy it and had secured one deal too. But it didn’t go through. So, it is not true.” With this, the Singham star put an end to the speculation that had followed him for a long time.

In the same interview, Ajay also tackled another piece of gossip — the claim that he was originally offered Kabir Singh before Shahid Kapoor. The actor’s brief but direct response was, “No,” effectively quashing the rumour.

Devgn also opened up about his general aversion to publicity and media attention. “Yeh rumour nai hai (This isn’t a rumour). Because I am an introvert,” he shared. "I believe that my work will speak for itself. You don’t need to talk too much. I have been like this since the start. Initially, people told me that I was in the wrong profession. It requires me to be an extrovert and talk about my work. But I felt that I wanted to do my work my way... Rest, it is up to God. Now, I feel jo kiya thik hi kiya (whatever I did, I believe it was the right thing)," he added.

Despite staying away from the spotlight, Ajay continues to make strong cinematic choices. He was recently seen alongside Riteish Deshmukh in Raid 2, which hit theatres on May 1. A sequel to the 2018 hit Raid, the film sees Devgn reprise his role as IRS officer Amay Patnaik. This time, the story takes on an even darker web of political corruption and black money, with Riteish playing a powerful antagonist. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid 2 has opened to positive reviews for its taut storytelling and Devgn’s restrained, powerful performance. With his trademark subtlety, Ajay Devgn continues to let his films — not the rumours — do all the talking.

A court in Mumbai has granted actor Malaika Arora a last chance to appear as a witness in the 2012 hotel brawl case involving actor Saif Ali Khan. The court warned that a non-bailable warrant will be issued against her if she fails to appear on the next hearing date, July 9.

The warning comes after Arora failed to comply with summons and skipped the hearing on April 29, despite a bailable warrant already being issued against her. Chief Judicial Magistrate K S Zanwar observed that Arora was “intentionally” avoiding legal proceedings, noting that while her lawyer was present in court, she chose not to appear.

The incident in question took place on February 22, 2012, at a five-star hotel in South Mumbai. Saif Ali Khan and two others—Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi—were arrested following a complaint by NRI businessman Iqbal Mir Sharma. The complainant alleged that Khan punched him, causing a nasal fracture, after he objected to the loud behavior of Khan and his companions.

According to the police, Khan was accompanied by his wife Kareena Kapoor, her sister Karisma Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Amrita Arora, and some friends when the altercation occurred. Sharma also claimed that Khan and his friends assaulted his father-in-law, Raman Patel.

Khan has denied the allegations, asserting that Sharma made provocative remarks and used abusive language towards the women in the group, which escalated the situation. Khan, Ladak, and Amrohi have been charge-sheeted under Section 325 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to causing grievous hurt.

The court initially issued a bailable warrant against Malaika Arora on February 15, which was re-issued on April 8 after she failed to appear. Her continued absence prompted the magistrate's latest warning.

The matter is now scheduled for further hearing on July 9.

Ameesha shared that the Dutts had thoughtfully prepared special gifts for their guests following the birth of their children. She said, “When Shahraan and Iqra were born, it was so beautiful because Maanayata is Muslim and Sanju is Hindu, even though he had a Muslim mother. Ameesha, who is currently unmarried, spoke candidly about the varied relationships of her colleagues. “I have seen all kinds of relationships around me; I see harmonious ones like Sanju, and then there is someone like Hrithik, who has had a divorce, but they are (Hrithik and Sussanne) co-parenting beautifully, and they are the best of friends now. Actors Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Singh, Palak Tiwari, Aasif Khan and Beyounick, writer-director Sidhaant Sachdev and producer Deepak Mukut attended the launch of the song 'Aya Re Baba' from their horror comedy The Bhootnii at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. Sanjay Dutt was in his element as he gave interesting replies to the questions asked by the media. However, at one point, he got emotional as he rued about the film industry.

Sanjay Dutt sighed, “It’s sad that our industry has been divided. I had never seen something like this before. We were a family and would continue to be one. Abhi thoda bhatak gaye hai.”

He explained, “Every film is important for this industry. All films should be given the chance by distributors and cinema owners. They should treat all films equally. The Bhootnii ko itna zor nahin diya ja raha hai lekin mujhe pata hai ki yeh picture bahut aage niklegi.”

He added, “Hence, I request the film industry to once again be a family. Let’s help each other so that the industry grows. I am not talking about myself. I am talking about my community and industry. I love my industry.”

A journalist asked about not having regular releases. Sanjay Dutt raised laughs as he said, “If I don’t take such a long gap, aap log mujhe dekh-dekh ke bore ho jaaoge!” On a serious note, he said, “Bhole Baba has showered his blessings on all of us. As Deepak Mukut said, the film was made thanks to Bholenath. Hopefully, I won’t take such a long gap from now on.”

Sidhaant Sachdev, on the other hand, lauded his lead actor for doing stunts on his own, without the use of a stunt double, “Sir has jumped for real at a height of 40 feet. I’ll upload its making. There’s no body double or stunt double. It’s just him supported by 2 ropes with a fire blast happening behind him. None of it is fake; nor we have done face replacement. That’s how he has worked hard, and he has been an inspiration for us.”

The Bhootnii releases in cinemas on May 1.

She was very chilled out.”

Sabyasachi also shared how last-minute the entire wedding was, revealing that he had just one week to create the bridal lehenga. He said, “She came over for lunch one day and said that she is getting married. I asked her how much time I had and she said one week. I had to put something together in that much time. Aamir Khan has decided to postpone the trailer launch of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par following the recent tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The attack, which claimed the lives of several Indian tourists, has deeply affected the nation. On April 22, a brutal terror attack left 26 people dead and many others injured when gunmen opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam. This incident stands as one of the most heartbreaking attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

The trailer, which was originally set to be released this week as part of the film's promotional campaign, has been postponed. In light of the tragic attack, Aamir Khan and his team made the decision to delay the launch as a gesture of respect for the victims and their families.

A source close to the film's development told Hindustan Times, “Aamir Khan and his team felt it would be inappropriate to proceed with the launch at this time. A new release date for the trailer will be announced later.”

The terror attack in Pahalgam occurred around 2:30 pm on Tuesday, leaving a devastating aftermath of grief and terror. Among the 26 victims were a young Navy officer, who had just been married days earlier, and an Intelligence Bureau official, who was tragically shot in front of his wife. Officials confirmed that the casualties also included two foreign nationals, one from the UAE and the other from Nepal, as well as two local residents.

Returning to the big screen, Aamir Khan is set to make his comeback with Sitaare Zameen Par. His last film, Laal Singh Chaddha, was released in 2022. Reports suggest that the trailer for Sitaare Zameen Par will be launched by Darsheel Safary. Announced in 2023, the film stars Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh in prominent roles.

According to independent industry sources, “Darsheel Safary will be launching the trailer for Aamir Khan’s highly anticipated upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. After he delivered a flawless performance in Taare Zameen Par and became a star, it will be exciting to see Darsheel unveiling the trailer and being a part of the sequel to the 2007-released film. More details about the trailer launch are awaited.”

The brilliant and visionary filmmaker Shahji Karun created his own Gone With the Wind with Piravi (1989). If he had directed no other film after that haunting debut, he would still be considered a master of Indian cinema. Though he went on to make six more films — all in his native language Malayalam — none achieved the same critical or emotional impact as Piravi.

At one point, Jaya Bachchan expressed keen interest in remaking Piravi in Hindi, with herself in the role originally played by Archana. However, Shahji Karun wasn’t inclined toward a remake.

When I recently asked Shahji Karun why he had directed only seven films in a span of thirty-three years, he offered a deeply introspective explanation. “Yes, seven films so far as a director. My last directorial Oolu was made in 2018 and released in 2019. But I can’t rush into a new film just because I have to. Making films is a meditation for me. The inspiration has to come from within — it cannot be forced.”

He also revealed that his creative energies have been directed elsewhere in recent years. “Now, additionally, I have a big responsibility as the Chairperson of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation. I must ensure the all-round development and upliftment of the Malayalam film industry. Once the problems are addressed, I will move on and let others implement my ideas. But for now, I am totally immersed in this job.”

Shahji added that the COVID-19 pandemic delayed everything by at least two years. “I have two films in hand, but I requested the Chief Minister of Kerala for this assignment to upgrade cinema in the state — and that comes first. Once the developmental process begins, I’ll return to filmmaking. This time, I promise you there won’t be a five-year gap.”

Tragically, Shahji Karun’s promise of another film remains unfulfilled — a loss for cinema lovers who still await the next meditation from one of India’s most thoughtful auteurs.

Manoj Bajpayee doesn’t easily praise his own performances or those of his co-stars. The last time he showered so many compliments on a female co-actor was when he spoke about Tabu. Now, it is Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who celebrates her birthday today, receiving that rare praise. “I came away from The Family Man Season 2 with so much respect for Samantha. Her dedication to getting Rajalakshmi’s body language and spoken language right was inspiring,” says Manoj.

Season 2 of The Family Man was widely appreciated for the powerhouse performances delivered by both Manoj Bajpayee and Samantha. Manoj reveals that while he did his own homework for the role, Samantha was deeply committed to preparing for hers. He even watched her previous films to understand the kind of actor she is.

Says Manoj, “When I got to know Raj and DK had cast Samantha, I wanted to know more about her work. I’m a film buff. I watch all kinds of films and series to stay aware of what’s going on around me. I love to recognize, acknowledge, and bond with talented colleagues. Yes, I saw Samantha’s work.”

When the two finally met, Manoj didn’t hold back his admiration. “The first thing I did when I met Samantha in Chennai was to congratulate her on her performance in Super Deluxe — she was magnificent. As an unfaithful wife trying to hide her lover’s body with her husband’s help, Samantha nailed it. Like me, she’s not afraid to take risks.”

The actor was equally impressed by her preparation for The Family Man. “Her preparation was amazing. I’ve seen her training videos where she’s practicing martial arts and more. This is what I love about my co-stars — when they bring that kind of passion to their work, it inspires me to give my best. When they don’t, I try to talk to them. Really, I came away with so much respect for Samantha Ruth Prabhu.”

Long time no see, Kunal! Where have you been hiding your talented self? The last I saw you was in Ankahi Kahaniyan. Why are you so picky? Hiding? I've been standing in plain sight — it's just that the spotlight hasn’t been on me. People assume that because you're not seen, you're not connected to the industry. But I always am — constantly working on getting better at what I do. At the same time, I've got a writers' room where we are creating scripts, some that I want to act in, some to produce. The idea was that if you can't find the scripts you have your heart in, you need to develop the work you believe in.

What gravitated you towards Jewel Thief, and how pivotal is your role? What drew me to this project was the opportunity to break away from my usual character types. Throughout my career, I've often been cast as characters who embody thoughtfulness — the poet, the philosopher, the voice of reason. My character Vikram represents a complete departure from that pattern. He's defined by actions rather than words; there's an economy to his expression that I found compelling. I've essentially traded poetic monologues for punchlines in this role.

What was it like working with other talented actors like Saif and Jaideep? Though my character spends most of the film in pursuit rather than sharing many scenes with them, the experience of working alongside both Saif and Jaideep was great. What struck me about Saif was how he commands attention without ever demanding it. There's an effortlessness to his presence. While some stars feel they need to assert their status on set, Saif simply immerses himself in the work, and people naturally gravitate toward him. Beyond his talent, he's genuinely great company. Jaideep possesses this remarkable quality of authentic presence, both on camera and off. He has mastered the art of simply being, which is perhaps the most difficult skill for an actor to cultivate.

How do you assess your career so far? Don't you think you have not done enough work? It's been a mixed bag, honestly — equal parts gratifying and frustrating. In pure quantity? Definitely not as much as I would like. People often ask if I'm being too selective, but it’s more like I haven’t had enough good scripts to choose from. A movie set is my favourite place in the world — it’s truly where I feel most alive. I've had a 25-year love affair with cinema, evolving from production assistant to assistant director and now actor. But I know the best is yet to come.

How conducive is the OTT platform to good work? It's definitely opened up the possibilities for different kinds of stories and opportunities for actors that weren't available earlier. When I started off, you had to fit in. I think with OTT platforms; there's a lot more space for the misfits as well.

What after Jewel Thief? There’s a film with Chiranjeevi sir called Vishwambara. It's the kind of role I've never played before, and I don't think I'll ever get a chance to again. I'm looking forward to seeing how people respond to that. And then there’s Ramayan.

The month of May will begin with a bang with exciting releases in different languages. In this article, Bollywood Hungama will focus on the cut list of two of the releases – the Hollywood superhero entertainer Thunderbolts and the Telugu action entertainer, HIT: The Third Case.

The Central Board of Film Certificate (CBFC) thankfully hasn't asked for any visual cuts in Thunderbolts. Hence, all the action scenes remain unscathed. However, they asked the studio to mute five abusive words. These five words are ‘a**’, ‘a**hole’, ‘d**ks’, ‘b***h’ and ‘prick’. The last word is not considered as an objectionable cuss term and hence, the muting of ‘prick’ is sure to raise eyebrows.

After these cuts were made, the studio was handed over the censor certificate on April 23. The length of Thunderbolts as mentioned on the censor certificate is 127 minutes, that is, 2 hours and 7 minutes. The film was passed with a U/A 13+ rating.

HIT: The Third Case, like Thunderbolts, also releases on May 1. With this film, the Examining Committee asked for both audio and visual cuts. The makers were asked to limit the use of 'f**k' and mute 'c*****a'.

The rest of the cuts were related to the violent scenes. The makers were asked to suitably modify the visuals of butchering of the neck; the visuals were reduced to a flash. The scenes of girl torture were also reduced to a flash. The pool of blood was covered with CG.

A gruesome scene in the film involves the neck being cut and close-up shots of amputated hands, legs and fingers. In this case, the CBFC reduced the gory visuals to flash, blood spilling effect was reduced by 50% and cut body parts were darkened. Moreover, in two scenes, the CBFC told the makers to modify the red colour of the blood to a dark shade to reduce impact; a first for any film probably. Lastly, the visuals of a child were modified and reduced. A disclaimer was added that the makers have used a CGI baby.

Once these changes were made, HIT: The Third Case was passed with an ‘A’ certificate on April 21. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 157.06 minutes. In other words, the Nani-Srinidhi Shetty starrer is 2 hours 37 minutes and 6 minutes long.

Actor-singer Shruti Haasan, daughter of veteran actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika, has opened up about the humbling impact of her parents’ divorce, revealing how it transformed her perspective on life. In an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Shruti shared that the separation led to a drastic shift in her circumstances, taking her from a life of luxury to navigating Mumbai’s local trains.

Shruti Haasan Recalls a Journey of Resilience and Growth After Parents’ Divorce “I was very humbled by my parents’ separation. When we moved from Chennai to Mumbai, it wasn’t like we moved from a mansion to another mansion. It wasn’t really comfortable in Mumbai. But I am glad these lessons happened. From travelling everywhere in a Mercedes to taking the local train was an abrupt changeover, and I realised how we can learn from both these journeys,” she said.

The divorce of Kamal Haasan and Sarika, finalised in 2004, marked a pivotal moment for Shruti and her younger sister, Akshara. Raised by Sarika in Mumbai post-separation, Shruti candidly admitted that her privileged upbringing initially fostered a sense of entitlement. However, the challenges following the split reshaped her attitude. “I think there was a fear inside me, and even though I was projecting confidence, I was shaken to my core for many years,” she explained, adding that embracing humility brought her genuine confidence.

Shruti’s reflections highlight her journey from a sheltered childhood to embracing financial and personal independence. The actress, known for films like Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire and her upcoming role in Coolie alongside Rajinikanth, credits these experiences for grounding her. Her move to Mumbai, a stark contrast to her earlier life in Chennai, taught her to adapt and find value in simplicity.

Speaking of the professional front, Shruti was last seen in Salaar.

Indian table tennis legend and Olympian Sharath Kamal has expressed his desire for Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal to portray him in a potential biopic. In an exclusive interview with The Free Press Journal, the retired athlete shared insights into his career, retirement, and aspirations for documenting his journey, revealing Kaushal as his top choice due to the actor’s stature and proven success in biopics.

Kamal, who recently visited The Free Press Journal’s Mumbai office, discussed his plans to first pen a book about his life before considering a film adaptation. “Before making a movie, I would like to write about my journey. Writing gives you clarity, and it also explains the complete picture,” he said. When asked about the actor he envisions for his biopic, he promptly named Kaushal, stating, “Probably somebody who is tall. So, we can probably have Vicky Kaushal.”

Vicky Kaushal, celebrated for his roles in biopics like Chhaava, Sardar Udham, and Sam Bahadur, has cemented his reputation as a go-to actor for real-life portrayals. His recent film Chhaava, a biopic on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, grossed Rs 600.6 crore, making it the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025.

The table tennis star, however, expressed uncertainty about the commercial viability of a film on his sport. “I don’t know if my sport is popular enough for the industry to pick it up,” he admitted. Despite this, his achievements, including multiple Commonwealth Games medals and the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, make his story a compelling candidate for the big screen.

Speaking of Kaushal’s upcoming projects, he has an exciting lineup with films such as Love & War with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, and Mahavatar, a biopic on Chiranjeevi Parashurama.
