Nearly four decades since its inception and several highs and lows later, Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment is reeling from a major financial setback. The production banner, known for making blockbuster entertaining movies like Coolie No.1, Biwi No.1, and Hero No.1, among others, is downsizing its operations following consecutive box office failures, Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learnt.

According to trade sources familiar with the development, Vashu Bhagnani has sold his seven-floor office of Pooja Entertainment to a builder. The identity of the builder who purchased the land and the amount it sold for is not disclosed yet, but they will apparently now demolish the building to create a luxurious residential project on the plot.

Vashu has also sacked almost 80% of employees and shifted the office base to a two-bedroom flat in Juhu, the sources have revealed. The layoffs began in January 2024 after Jagan Shakti’s film starring Tiger Shroff was shelved following a two-year struggle to take it on floors. The workforce was further reduced in April, specifically after the release of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. This development comes on the heels of the disastrous box office failure of BMCM, which barely earned Rs. 59.17 crores at the box office against the investment of Rs. 350 crores, resulting in losses of at least Rs. 125-150 crores for the production banner. Sources say Vashu has sold the building to pay off debts to multiple financiers, amounting to approximately Rs. 250 crores.

“It all started with Bell Bottom, which was one of the first Hindi movie to be released in theatres post the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. The film flopped badly at the box office and so did the next one, Mission Raniganj. The company faced another setback when the big-budget Ganapath failed to perform and was even rejected by Netflix despite an acquisition deal. Red flags had already begun to appear in the company's financial sheet by this point, and the enormous investment in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan made matters worse. Even still, the firm held out hope that the action entertainer starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff would turn around its financial situation. However, the historic failure of this Ali Abbas Zafar directorial almost crippled the company. Vashu had no choice but to sell the building to pay off the enormous debt,” a source familiar with the development told Bollywood Hungama.

Despite these challenges, sources claim that Pooja Entertainment is not folding. Vashu and his son Jackky Bhagnani are determined to reboot operations and have already started discussions with actors and directors for a fresh slate of movies. In contrast to rumours, they are going ahead with Shahid Kapoor’s Ashwatthama project that they announced just a few months back.

Pooja Entertainment was established in 1986 and has produced around 40 movies to date. The big successes include their films with David Dhawan, such as Coolie No.1, Hero No.1, Biwi No.1, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and highly appreciated movies such as Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Om Jai Jagadish, among others. The success ratio of the company, however, is outperformed by its big box office failures such as Himmatwala (2013), Humshakals (2014), Bell Bottom, Mission Raniganj, Ganapath, and the recent Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.

Taking his stardom to the next level, Sunny Deol signed a rather interesting deal this week. The actor will be making his big Telugu debut with the untitled film, which will be directed by Gopichand Malineni. The film, which is currently being referred to as SDGM, was announced earlier this week with the shooting commencing this month and will have Saiyami Kher as the leading lady as well as Regina Cassandra in a key role.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Gopichand Malineni revealed that the script was written for someone like Sunny Deol. Speaking of whether he is nervous or excited about directing Deol, Malineni said, “More than nervous about my Bollywood debut, I feel confident that it’ll be a good film. I wrote the script knowing it’ll be perfect for someone like Sunny. Luckily, Mythri Movie Makers also agreed and helped me approach him. To my surprise, Sunny said yes immediately because he liked it so much.”

Gopichand asserts that the film is not a remake

He refrained from revealing too many details about the film.  “I wish I could reveal much, but I can’t yet. Let’s just say the film has a particular plot point that sets it apart. It’s not just about the mass elements my films usually have; it’s going to be a racy script with a touch of realism,” he shared. “He’s a big action hero, I’m a mass director and we have the perfect script. And let’s be clear, it’s not a remake,” added the director.

The filmmaker revealed about the Gadar actor’s love for his 2021 film starring Ravi Teja and Shruti Haasan as he mentioned, “Sunny has seen Krack, he liked it.” Meanwhile, Malineni has a list of films which are his favourites and he stated, “Me on the other hand, I think I’ve seen all his films. My favourites are Ghayal, Damini, Gadar, Border.”

Meanwhile, speaking of Aryan, he will be soon making his directorial debut with a show, titled Stardom. The web series is expected to give a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes of a glamorous industry like the Indian Entertainment industry, and Red Chillies Entertainment will produce it. Going by the reports, the show will also showcase a bevy of popular names from the Hindi film industry who will be doing special appearances. Along with Bobby Deol, popular actor Mona Singh too is expected to play an important character. The show is extensively shot in Mumbai with a few portions shot in Goa.

Sara Ali Khan had a rocking debut in 2018 with Kedarnath followed by Simmba. Both films were released within three weeks of each other. Incidentally, the films were also shot almost together. In fact, there was a point when Kedarnath’s dates got affected after Prerna Aroraa left the film. Sara’s management agency gave some of these dates to the makers of Simmba. But soon, Kedarnath was back on track as the issue was resolved. By then, Sara Ali Khan’s dates were given away. Abhishek Kapoor, the director and one of the producers of Kedarnath, went to court over this issue. During an interaction with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day, Sara Ali Khan spoke about this episode in her life.

Sara explained, “In May 2018, I was supposed to do Simmba. Kedarnath was happening; it was my debut film. Then, some dates went upar neeche and I also signed Simmba. Now, there were 3-4 dates that were coinciding. And yeah, I got sued for Rs. 5 crores (by the makers of Kedarnath)! I was very nervous because I didn’t have Rs. 5 crores (smiles).”

Sara Ali Khan said that it was a difficult period of her life, “My mother (Amrita Singh) was in Delhi as her father was dying. Ibrahim was in school. And I was served a vakaalatnaama. I was like, ‘Ab iska main kya karoon? Samaj hi nahin aa raha’! I sent the management to court as I had to go and shoot which the makers were aware of as they were also at the shoot (smiles)!”

Thankfully, an out-of-court settlement happened soon. She revealed, “Rohit sir (Rohit Shetty) and Gattu sir (Abhishek Kapoor) met in a room. Ranveer Singh (her co-star in Simmba) was also present and he said, ‘Okay, then’ and quickly left the room as it was a bit strange.” Thankfully, a solution was reached in no time. Sara revealed, “Kedarnath’s makers only wanted three dates and Rohit sir said, ‘Theek hai, le lo’! The case ended.”

She also added, “It was tricky as I spent a lot of time flying from Hyderabad to Mumbai. I was shooting simultaneously; Simmba at night and Kedarnath in the morning.” She also stated that due to the case, the equation with Abhishek Kapoor. Then, one day, she got her spot girl Zarna, who makes great coffee, to prepare the beverage for Abhishek Kapoor. She said, “After that, the shoot was smooth.”

Sara Ali Khan also made it clear that there is no bad blood between her and Abhishek, “He also had his reasons. And it’s all good now.”

"A film release is almost like the arrival of a child for a film maker," said Director Siddharth P Malhotra in a note as his film, Maharaj, finally released on OTT. Taking to social media, Malhotra penned an emotional note about how the film tells a story that “needs to be told against all odds”. He said that even though the battle to release the film was uphill, they hope the pain and obstacles were worth it as the team is “super proud” of the film, which marks Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan’s acting debut.

“The film is finally live. Please watch the film and share it on social media to spread the word. we promise you it’s well worth your time and your families too. It’s a story hopefully you will agree that needs to be told,” he wrote in the long post.

The film is receiving immense love from critics. While people are praising Junaid’s first stint as an actor, critics are raving over Jaideep Ahlawat’s performance in it. The film marked Malhotra’s return to the director’s chair after Rani Mukherji’s Hichki, which released in theatres in 2018.

Junaid Khan, the son of Bollywood star Aamir Khan, makes his acting debut in the Netflix film Maharaj, which is based on the life of journalist Karsan Das Mulji. The narrative focuses around the lives of a journalist who, against the odds, used the power of his pen to fight against the 'atrocities' perpetrated by religious leaders.

Members of a Hindu organisation filed a court petition to block its distribution, arguing that it violated religious feelings. Protests against its publication included social media boycotts. Its publication was subsequently postponed for one week. The suspension was lifted by the Gujarat High Court on June 21.

After Maharaj secured a clean chit from the court, Yash Raj Films (YRF) issued a long message of thanks to the Court on its official Instagram account. The statement noted, “We are grateful to the judiciary for allowing the release of Maharaj, a film that celebrates one of the most important social reformers of our country, Karsandas Mulji.”

Sanjay Gupta, known for his stylish and gritty films, spoke exclusively with Bollywood Hungama about the box office scenario at present, his memories of working on his first film Aatish and a lot more.

How has 2024 been from a box-office point of view? Do you think we are at a better stage as compared to 2022 and 2023? Not really. Even though mid-sized and low-budget films have worked off late, it’s not a good sign. Munjya, Laapataa Ladies and Article 370 succeeded but when you are talking to a studio – only one or two are still left – they are not ready to back a small film. They want the safety of stars. So, even though these films are working, nobody is ready to make them. Hence, we are living in complicated times.

Why do you say ‘complicated times’? Take the instance of Ajay Devgn. His film Shaitaan worked but Maidaan bombed. Both were released a month apart. The surety of stardom is definitely eroded. Maidaan was a story one had seen before. Shaitaan, on the other hand, had a story that one had not seen before. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan completely tanked because one had seen it before. The content that we make now has to be something that one has not seen before. The audience is definitely looking for something new. There’s, after all, so much to consume. The biggest challenge to the film industry is screen time. We are constantly on our phones today. So, the need to be entertained is diminished.

Moreover, if word of mouth is not there today, the film is not going to work. Earlier, star-driven films did not require word of mouth. People came for the stars. Now, they don’t come for the stars. Shah Rukh Khan delivered two Rs. 500 crore films in the form of Pathaan and Jawan. Then his next film, Dunki, collected Rs. 250 crores.

Whichever films have worked at the box office post-pandemic, be it the ones down South or Bollywood, like Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, Jawan etc., in these films, one can see hard work in every shot and frame. The directors have not slacked and have given it all. That is what connected with the audience. They have noticed it as they are way smarter than us. We, filmmakers, are nowhere!

I am dying to get back to my set for my next film. And I am telling writers to make it tougher for me to shoot it and to ingest a whole new style and look into it. The moral of the story is that we have to work really hard.

There’s also a perception that people are bored of watching slick action films and that Bollywood should return to raw, hand-to-hand action, as seen in Gadar 2 and Animal… Yes, you are right. The next film I am directing, it is in the search-and-rescue mission space, more on the zone of Extraction (2020). We have already incorporated a lot of crazy action into the script. And the IMAX theatres we have today and even in general theatres, the sound and the projection are quite powerful. It is stupid enough not to make the most of it, be it with background score, sound design, action etc. Now is the time to innovate. Woh zamana gaya jab hum Gaiety-Galaxymein baith ke stereo ya mono mein film dekhte the. Today, every second theatre is equipped with Dolby Atmos.

Your first film, Aatish (1994), which completed 30 years on June 17, was a multi-starrer. It’s rare for a filmmaker to cast such big names in his first film…

And the fact that I was hardly 22 years old at that time (smiles)!

How did you handle so many actors? Did you feel the pressure? Not at all. I never considered stars to be larger-than-life. They are just actors. I am just a director who is directing it. The only time I was in a lot of awe was when I directed Mr Bachchan in Kaante (2002), that too just for the first scene. That awe was there only until we filmed the first shot. After that, all the ice was broken. I am just blessed that I’ll live to tell my grandchildren that I work with Amitabh Bachchan!

As per IMDB trivia, Shah Rukh Khan was the original choice for Aditya Pancholi’s role. Is that true? Not at all. Shah Rukh and I started together, in the same office of Sippy Films. As a matter of fact, I introduced Shah Rukh Khan to Viveck Vaswani, who then produced Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992) along with Sippy Films. So, I have known Shah Rukh way before he was signed by any producer. It is just fate that I have never approached him with any film as my loyalty was always with Mr Dutt.

In Marjaavaan (2019), it seems like Milap Zaveri paid a homage to Aatish. The scene where Shaad Randhawa loses his leg is similar to the scene in your film where Aditya Pancholi’s leg gets cut. Did you know about it?

Yes, he told me that he’s paying homage to me and my film. I have not seen the film yet but I heard about it.

Your wife Anuradha Gupta just won the Mrs World International 2024. How do you feel? I am very proud of her. One day, she told me that she had entered the competition. I told her to go for it. I was very calm about it. And we went to Delhi for the competition where she won. My kids are sensible enough now – one is 11 and the other is 13. They saw their mother walk the ramp and win the crown. It was a very proud moment for all of us.

They told me that to get work, you have to be ‘friendly' with actors. I am very friendly, but what does ‘friendly' mean? I am so friendly that Ekta Kapoor once told me to have some attitude.”

A couple of years ago, Isha Koppikar had opened up about how a ‘hero’ had invited her to meet him along without her staff. Sharing the incident yet again in this interview, Isha added, “When I was 23, one actor asked me to meet him alone, without my driver or anyone else, because there were rumours about him being involved with other actresses. He said, ‘There are already controversies about me, and the staff spreads rumours.' But I refused and told him that I couldn't come alone. He was an A-list actor from the Hindi film industry.”

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Farhan seems to have raised the hopes of fans who were not happy about Shah Rukh Khan quitting the Don franchise. Agreeing that a collaboration is definitely on the cards, Akhtar said, “Yeah, absolutely yeah. We’ll find something that we want to work on together, and I’m sure we will.” He continued, “You just have to find something that you can connect on with somebody,” and assured fans by adding, “100 percent.”

Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming films

Farhan Akhtar recently celebrated 20 years of his second directorial Lakshya starring Hrithik Roshan. The filmmaker-actor, who dons multiple roles with ease, is said to have started work on the ambitious Don 3 as the expectations are riding high on the movie. With Ranveer Singh donning this hat for the first time, and with Kiara Advani being roped in as the leading lady, this will also mark their first collaboration on screen.

Besides this, Farhan Akhtar also has the highly anticipated Jee Le Zaraa. Although the film was announced three years ago in 2021, the film’s schedule has been pushed multiple times. Featuring a female-led cast of Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif, it is expected to be a road-trip drama but due to dates co-ordination, the film has not yet been able to take off.

Sanjay Gupta and Sanjay Dutt go back a long way and have worked in several films together. It’s been 17 years since they last collaborated and their fans are eagerly waiting for their next. In 2022, there were reports that their collaboration is finally happening and after that, there has been no update. Bollywood Hungama recently spoke with Sanjay Gupta and asked him about this much-awaited venture.

When asked about reports that he and Sanjay Dutt were planning a film, Sanjay Gupta replied, “We are still planning a film together! As a matter of fact, his manager just came to meet me. We have worked out the script and now, we are working out the logistics.”

Does he recall his first meeting with Sanjay Gupta? The filmmaker, known for his styling and gritty films, answered, “It must have been 35-40 years ago. I was an assistant director and I met him for the first time on location. Later, we shot for a film called Thanedaar (1990) in Kodaikanal. It was during this outdoor schedule that we hit it out and we became friends.”

Sanjay Dutt featured in Sanjay Gupta's directorial debut, Aatish (1994), which completed 30 years on June 17. This was followed by Khauff (2000), Jung (2000), Kaante (2002), Musafir (2004), Dus Kahaniyaan (2007) and the unfinished film, Alibaug. Sanjay Dutt also worked in his productions like Plan (2004) and Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007). This means that both have worked in as many as 9 films.

In a 2022 interview with Bombay Times, Sanjay Dutt confessed, “In many ways, we grew up together, holding each other’s hands. I know Gups well and I know what he wants from me. Beech mein, main behak gaya tha. I wasn’t taking care of myself and I didn’t want to work with him at a time when I was not at my best. The reason I hit the gym is that I started preparing myself to work with him again. I am getting back to my home turf very soon.”

Deepika Padukone will be collaborating for the first time with Prabhas for this sci-fi drama which boasts of an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. While neither the Sinha family nor the Ratansi family are ready to reveal details of the impending wedding ceremony of Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal this week, there have been several reports which are doing the rounds about them. Anil Kapoor was in a great mood at the press conference of Bigg Boss OTT 3 and entertained journalists with his replies and antics. As expected, the veteran star was compared with superstar Salman Khan who has been the face of Bigg Boss and the host of several of its seasons for many years. At the very beginning, Anil Kapoor made it clear as he said, “Salman ko koi replace nahin kar sakta.” Later, he once again talked about Salman.

The youthful entertainer, Ishq Vishk Rebound, is all set to release this week and its makers completed its Censor process in advance. It received the censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) way back on June 10. The CBFC passed the rom-com with a U/A certificate with two modifications.

Firstly, the Examining Committee of the CBFC asked the makers to blur the middle finger visuals. Secondly, a disclaimer on alcohol consumption was displayed at the bottom of the screen in all liquor-related scenes.

Interestingly, the length of Ishq Vishk Rebound, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 106 minutes. In other words, its run time is just 1 hour 46 minutes long. This makes it the shortest significant Hindi film in a long time.

There have been some films in recent times that had a duration of or less than 110 minutes like Raksha Bandhan (2022; 110 minutes), Dhokha - Round D Corner (2022; 108 minutes), Kuttey (2023; 108 minutes) etc. Zwigato (2023) was one minute less, with a run time of 105 minutes. But it had a small release. As per records, the last film that had a major release and was shorter than Ishq Vishk Rebound was the Sunny Singh-starrer Jai Mummy Di (2020). It was released in around 750-800 screens and was 103 minutes long.

A multiplex official remarked, “It’s common for Hollywood films to be 1 hour 40 or 50 minutes long. But we were pleasantly surprised to learn about its run time. It’s rare for a Hindi film to be this short. Now, we can accommodate 6 or even 7 shows of Ishq Vishk Rebound in a screen per day, if required.”

Ishq Vishk Rebound stars Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan and Naila Grrewal. Backed by Ramesh Taurani’s Tips Films, it is directed by Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari. It will be released on June 21.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is digging deep into gambling, and money laundering, amid Bollywood glamour. Their investigation centers on a Mumbai-based event management firm suspected of recruiting celebrities to promote the Fairplay betting app, a subsidiary of the controversial Mahadev betting app. Big names like Sanjay Dutt, Jacqueline Fernandez, and rapper Badshah have come under scrutiny for their alleged involvement. The ED has already recorded statements from Badshah and the managers of Dutt and Fernandez.

As reported by Times Now, this investigation stems from a complaint filed by Viacom18 Media Pvt. Limited, which triggered an FIR by the Maharashtra Cyber Police in Mumbai. Before raiding the event management firm, the ED reportedly obtained a statement from a key individual there. The raids yielded a treasure trove of documents, including contracts with celebrities to promote Fairplay, details on payment methods and transactions, and other crucial company information. Reports suggest Fernandez may have received a hefty sum from a Dubai-based entity, Trim General Trading LLC, for endorsing the app.

The report further states that Badshah's alleged involvement points towards a Melbourne-based company, Lyukos Group FZF. Documents provided by the rapper to authorities reveal Lyukos Group partnered with two Mumbai talent management firms to promote the betting app. Dutt, on the other hand, is suspected of receiving Rs. 25 lakhs from a Singaporean gaming company to promote the app on social media.

The ED is examining all seized documents and the statements from Badshah and the managers. These statements were forwarded by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell for further investigation.

This isn't the first time Bollywood has brushed shoulders with the Mahadev app controversy. Kartik Aaryan’s trainer REACTS to accusations Pandey firmly refuted these accusations in a recent interview with the Indian Express. He explained that such doubts cast a shadow not only on the actor but also on the trainer's methods. He stated, "Whoever feels this transformation is not natural, I am ready to pay from my own pocket to take the NADA (National Anti-Doping Agency) test. When you cast doubt on an actor, you also start doubting the coach, that, ‘Oh this is a result of artificial supplement, this is because of dope and injections.’ It is said by only those who themselves can’t achieve it.”

Pandey, a former national-level boxer himself, is well-versed in anti-doping regulations and their importance. He stressed the long-term health risks associated with performance-enhancing drugs and his commitment to safe, sustainable training methods. "I have been a national boxer myself and I know after every match, we are tested. We know if we take something, we might win a match, but it will affect us long term. While the much-awaited third installment of Singham was slated to release on this specific date, immediately after the news of the film being postponed made headlines, makers of Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree 2 have unveiled its new release date to be August 15.

It seems that the Amar Kaushik directorial has been preponed by 15 days since it was slated to release by the end of the month. Maddock Films have taken to social media to share the good news about the release date of Stree 2 and have also revealed that the teaser of the film will be unveiled in cinemas on June 14 and it will be attached Sharvari Wagh starrer Munjya which released in cinemas earlier this month. saying, “Iss swatantrata diwas, aa rahi hai #Stree fir se! #Stree2 in cinemas this Independence Day, 15th August 2024. While Singham Again was expected to clash with Pushpa 2: The Rule, if it was to release on August 15, recent reports suggest that Pushpa 2 too may be delayed since work on the film is yet to be completed. On the other hand, the multi-starrer Khel Khel Mein starring Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, and others, will be produced by T-Series, have announced its release on Independence Day.

Marking the return of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao to the franchise, Stree 2 is a part of the Dinesh Vijan Cinematic Universe which includes a series of horror comedies including Bhediya and the recently released Munjya. The first installment of this Amar Kaushik directorial was released in 2018 and hence the excitement around this franchise, which marks a return after six years, is quite palpable.

Produced by T-Series and JP films and written by Nidhi Dutta, daughter of legendary director JP Dutta, Border 2 will be the biggest war film in India. According to rumours, the story is placed in the same setting at the Battle of Longewala and will start shooting sometime in October this year.

Director-Producer Karan Johar has reportedly taken legal action against the creators of the upcoming Hindi movie Shaadi Ke Director Karan aur Johar. Johar, a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking an urgent injunction against the film's release, since it is slated to hit theatres this week, on June 14. With the film being only a day away from its release, Johar seeks not only a temporary stay on the film's distribution but also a permanent injunction against the unauthorized use of his name in any context related to the movie.

In his plea, Karan Johar emphasized the necessity of preventing the unauthorized use of his name in the film's title, arguing that such usage directly infringes upon his personal rights, including his rights to privacy and publicity. He also went on to firmly clarify and assert that he has no involvement whatsoever with the movie or its creators. Karan also explained in his complaint that this is blatant exploitation of his 'brand name' without consent, which undermines his hard-earned reputation and goodwill in the industry. The lawsuit underscores the urgency of the matter, given that promotional materials, including trailers and posters, are already in circulation on various platforms, including social media.

In an official statement which was reported by India Today, the suit read, "These trailers and posters have caused and are continuing to cause irreparable loss and damage to the goodwill and reputation of Johar. Further, such a release of the film with the title containing his brand name 'Karan Johar,' together or in parts, will cause irreparable loss and damage to the goodwill and reputation which he has gained after investing huge amounts of time, effort, and money,"

Justice RI Chagla's bench has agreed to hold a hearing on June 13, Thursday, a day prior to the release of the film.

Known for his unconventional cinema, Anurag Kashyap was one of the first filmmakers to explore the world of OTT with Netflix India’s first original web-series Sacred Games starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The filmmaker recently discussed the evolution of the platform wherein he asserted that the medium has undergone extensive changes and is on the verge of turning into TV. He explained that it is being controlled by algorithm which is preventing many creators from exploring and experimenting with their content.

In an interaction with Radio Nasha, Anurag Kashyap told, “I think we are past the golden time of OTT. Now OTT is starting to turn into TV. Long-format storytelling has always had potential but now it is not dictated by quality, it is dictated by algorithm. And that’s where the problem is.” He compared it with TV and added, “TRPs started deciding what kind of television should be made. When shows were being on Doordarshan, they had a certain quality. Until the time they need new subscribers, they will experiment with new things. When they have exhausted that, then it turns into TV. This is a cycle.”

Further, mentioning that he has been here for around 32 years, Anurag continued, “Now the same multiplexes will play the same film on four screens. They are not supporting the films they were initially doing. When the studios came in, they were also making new kind of films, but then they also started catering to the same formula.”

He opened up about the time he created Sacred Games with Vikramaditya Motwane and said, “Me and Vikram made the first Netflix India show and that kind of a sensibility and support, we will not get anymore. Because that sensibility has changed. People who have no experience in filmmaking are now running the department of shows. And they have come from television. So their sensibility is television. Any creative person will tell you that when you are dealing with them, sometimes it’s like hitting your head against a wall.”

“I don’t think that the kind of long format I want to make, I will get to make it. And they are also scared. Maximum City is one of the examples. An approved green lit show, that got dropped with no official communication. They only want to do what their algorithm dictates,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, currently, Anurag Kashyap will be seen as a grey character in the upcoming Disney+ Hotstar web-series Bad Cop featuring Gulshan Devaiah in a dual role along with an ensemble cast.

Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan continue to share one of the closest bonds in Bollywood. It is a known fact that the Bollywood megastar started off from scratch in his film career and recently opening up about their struggling days, Farah Khan reminisced about the memories associated with the Kundan Shah film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. She revealed that the movie makers did not have a high budget for the Shah Rukh Khan, Suchitra Krishnamoorthy, and Deepak Tijori starrer and hence they even went on to cast regular people from Goa.

In an extensive interaction with Radio Nasha, Farah Khan revealed, “The budget was very low. Shah Rukh was paid Rs 25,000 for that movie. I was the highest paid person on that movie, let me tell you. I was paid Rs 5,000 per song, and there were six songs. Just because of that, I was paid Rs 30,000. We couldn’t even afford an assistant.”  She continued, “That full song ‘Aana Mere Pyar Ko’, we cast regular people from Goa,” and added that because of they were regular people they did not understand the cues. She stated that SRK resolved the problem by pinching them as a cue to stand up and do their bit.

Further elaborating on their camaraderie, Farah also mentioned that she did not have a great impression of the megastar after she saw him in an interview.  “We started the shoot in 1991, and I was also new. We were in Goa, and I’d only read an interview of Shah Rukh in which he sounded very brash and arrogant. I was very scared. I remember what he was wearing and doing when we first met; Kundan Shah introduced us,” she recalled. However, their similarities led to a beautiful friendship between the two. “Sometimes, you instantly hit it off with somebody. You feel like you’re friends from school. That’s what it was like with Shah Rukh. We had the same interests, we’d read the same books, we had the same sense of humour,” she asserted.

Farah Khan made her directorial debut with Shah Rukh Khan as her leading man in Main Hoon Na in 2004. She went on to work with him in films like Om Shanti Om and Happy New Year.

Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha has responded to the swirling rumours about his daughter, Sonakshi Sinha, reportedly tying the knot with her rumoured boyfriend Zaheer Iqbal. Reports suggested that Sonakshi and Zaheer are set to marry on June 23 in a private ceremony in Mumbai. However, Shatrughan Sinha has stated that he has no knowledge of these plans.

The veteran actor also revealed that he has been inundated with calls regarding the rumoured wedding. “I am being asked by people close to me why I am not aware of this (the supposed wedding), and the media is aware of it. All I can say is, aaj kal ke bachche consent nahin lete maa-baap ke, sirf inform karte hain. We are waiting to be informed,” he concluded. Inside the Sonakshi Sinha-Zaheer Iqbal wedding plans A Hindustan Times report suggests that the couple will host a two-day wedding ceremony. “The wedding is going to be an intimate affair, with only the couple’s families and close friends in attendance. Sonakshi doesn’t want to give out much details of her wedding before it happens and wants to keep it just in her close circle. Many of her actor friends will also be marking their presence to be a part of the most special day for the couple,” an insider shared.

As of now, neither Sonakshi Sinha nor Zaheer Iqbal has confirmed the wedding rumours. Fans are eagerly waiting for an official statement from the couple regarding their wedding plans.

Legendary actress Meena Kumari's legacy continues to spark conversation. Sharmin Segal, star of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's series Heeramandi, drew criticism for her performance despite the show's overall success. In a previous interview, Sharmin cited Meena Kumari's portrayal of "nothingness" in the classic film Pakeezah as an inspiration for her character in Heeramandi. However, Meena Kumari's stepson, Tajdar Amrohi, has expressed strong disagreement with this comparison.

Speaking to Zoom TV, Amrohi asserted, “Zameen aasman ka fark hai between ‘Heeramandi’ and Pakeezah (There is a difference of earth and sky between them). Don’t compare the two. Nobody can make Pakeezah again. Neither Meena Kumari nor Kamal Amrohi can ever be born again.”

He further added, “I don't want to say much about this since Bhansali is a big fan of my father Kamal Amrohi. In every film of his, Bhansali tries to take shots in a very similar way as my father did. Once, he had come to Kamalistan Studio, he asked where my Dad used to sit, where my Dad walked. Out of great respect, he touched the ground where my Dad sat. That was 15 years ago, and after that I never met him again. I must say here that each one of of us has an individual taste. This all is my opinion. There might be people who have liked Heeramandi more than Pakeezah.”

He concluded by saying, “I don't know Sharmin. But no, I can't relate to her statement on nothingness.” For the unversed, Sharmin, in an interview with ETimes stated that, “Meena Kumari was one of my inspirations. I tried to bring Meena Kumari’s nothingness from Pakeezah into my character in Heeramandi.”

Coming to the Netflix show, it is set against the backdrop of India's independence struggle, and explores the lives of courtesans in Heera Mandi, Lahore, during the pre-partition era. The series boasts a star-studded cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditi Rao Hydari, and has been renewed for a second season.
