Actor Neha Dhupia attracted headlines in 2004 when she asserted that "either sex sells or Shah Rukh Khan." She had mentioned that since Shah Rukh was not there in Julie (2004), the movie needed to contain love-making scenes and shots in response to a question about her doing intimate scenes. In the movie, which also starred Priyanshu Chatterjee and Sanjay Kapoor, Neha played a sex worker. After viewing Pathaan on Republic Day 2023, Neha re-examined her earlier statement on Shah Rukh and recently praised him on Twitter.  The actor responded to a Twitter follower on Saturday who commented on the success of Pathaan at the box office. Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, was released on January 25, 2023 and ever since, it is rewriting history at the box office. Jacqueline Fernandez, who is currently being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate owing to her alleged involvement in the Sukesh Chandrashekhar Rs. 200 crore extortion case, has been granted the permission to travel abroad for professional commitments, albeit with certain conditions. The actress had earlier approached the Delhi Patiala High Court seeking the permit for travelling abroad to attend her scheduled performance for PepsiCo India conference where she was to perform at the Annual Bottlers Conference in Dubai. On Friday, the Delhi Patiala High Court granted permission to Jacqueline Fernandez to travel to Dubai after her counsel argued that the actress may face lawsuit from the brand for non-participation if she doesn’t make it to the conference. Considering the same, the court has granted her permission to travel but along with that it has also observed that it will come along with some conditions. Owing to the fact that the ED is still investigating the Sukesh Chandrashekhar case, for which, she has been named as a witnessed, the court has laid certain guidelines for the actress including a FDR of Rs. 1 crore, in case she doesn’t return. As per the court order, the actress is also expected to give a full disclosure of her stay details in Dubai including itinerary, arrival, and departure. In the past too, Jacqueline Fernandez had filed a plea seeking permission to travel but had withdrawn the same. While the counsel argued that the actress decided to cooperate in the investigation and decided against traveling for personal reasons, the current reason for her to insist on leaving for Dubai is because of the professional repercussions she may face if she doesn’t attend the event. On the other hand, the ED opposed it not only stating that the case is still under investigation but also pointing out that Jacqueline is a foreign national which increases the threat of her fleeing. After listening to both arguments, the court upheld its decision of allowing Fernandez to travel for the conference but keeping in mind the ongoing investigation of the Sukesh Chandrashekhar Rs. 200 crore extortion case, the court has asked the actress to strictly adhere to the guidelines that have been laid down. For the unversed, Jacqueline Fernandez is being investigated for her alleged relationship with Sukesh Chandrashekhar. While the actress claims to be a victim of the conman, the Enforcement Directorate is investigating and has filed multiple chargesheets regarding the same. The SCO Council of Heads of States and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) had collaborated to organise the film festival. On the opening day of the festival, Bollywood celebrities Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Hema Malini, and others received awards. In Mumbai for the festival's opening, Union Minister Thakur noted that the distinctions between regional and worldwide film have become more hazy and emphasised the importance of creating high-quality content that will be recognised on a global scale. He told reporters, "Somebody asked me about regional or how come it is an international thing here, nothing is regional today if the content has the power, it will go places, from regional to national to international. Keep making good content; there are no boundaries for good content. This (Appatha) is going to make great news at the box office and will be seen across the world." India is hosting the G20 Summit in 2023, and it also holds the SCO Presidency, according to the minister, making it a significant year for the country. He asserted that India and the SCO have close ties, and for many years, residents of the SCO's member countries have praised and adored Indian movies. "In one-year (these) big events are happening in India. And we have a lot of showcases, especially our rich cultural heritage, (and) we should only be proud of it. The world of cinema is incomplete without India and India is the largest filmmaking country and of late we are making right news, right noise at the international level," he added. The festival's mission, according to the minister, is to foster young filmmaker potential, foster relationships in the film industry, and function as a bridge between the cultures of this distinctive region. It also offers exchange programmes. When Thakur inquired about Akshay Kumar's readiness to appear in foreign movies, the 55-year-old actor responded, “I believe in being aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) and will do Hindustani films." On the other hand, Shroff asserted that he is open to acting in foreign films and that he thinks that cinema transcends all languages. He said, "Films transcends boundaries, it is a visual medium and creativity has no language. I am very happy to be here and be part of this event and celebrate Indian cinema and its growth, and of course world cinema and all the countries that have participated and showed their talent." Hema Malini asserted that a major factor in an actor's increasing notoriety outside of India is participation in film festivals. "Through the festival a lot can happen. Like, (for) SCO film festival, there is participation from Russia, China, Uzbekistan and other (countries), it is a good thing and the result will be good. Long ago, I acted in an Indo-Russian collaboration film, 'Alibaba Aur 40 Chor' and because of that many people know me (in that country)," the actress said. 2023's first mega blockbuster, Pathaan, is creating a rampage at the box office. The film is being loved not just for its tight script, music, scale, action, patriotism and of course the performances of Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, but also because it has some very exciting and unexpected Easter eggs. These are related to scenes and dialogues of past films, some of which belong to the YRF (Yash Raj Films) spy universe, just like Pathaan. Bollywood Hungama, in this special feature, lists out these Easter Eggs 1. One of the most hilarious scenes in the film is when Pathaan infiltrates the bedroom of a lady named Karen, who possesses the key to the safe where 'rakht beej' is stored, in Moscow's Woskwich Tower. Karen was supposed to be fast asleep after unknowingly consuming sleeping pills. But when Pathaan is taking her fingerprints, she unexpectedly wakes up. At this moment, Pathaan sings the iconic song of Darr (1993), 'Tu Hai Meri Kiran'. But he replaces Kiran with Karen not just while singing the song but also when mouthing the iconic dialogue, ‘K-K-K-K-Kiran’. As expected, viewers went crazy at this point. 2. Pathaan and Rubina (Deepika Padukone) discussing how to steal 'rakht beej' leads to Pathaan uttering '7 din Rakht beej in'. It was an inspiration to the '6 din ladki in' sequence from Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), starring Shah Rukh, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan. 3. The famous number of War (2019), 'Ghungroo Toot Gaye', is mentioned by Pathaan in his entry scene. Interestingly, War, starring Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor, was also a part of YRF Spy Universe. 4. Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan coming together and fighting the baddies made for enough entertainment. Yet, the makers enhanced the scene by infusing humour. Tiger (Salman Khan) exclaiming "Bhaag Pathaan Bhaag" was a direct homage to the "Bhaag Arjun Bhaag" scene from Karan Arjun (1995), which featured both of them in leading roles. 5. Certain observant moviegoers have noticed that the background score used in Pathaan and Tiger's scene is the same that was used in War. 6. Finally, the mid-credit scene of Pathaan and Tiger is highly entertaining. It shows both the spies thinking of retiring after 30 years of service. But they are unable to think of a replacement and hence, decide to continue working. It became obvious to each and every moviegoer that they mirrored the real-life scenario of the industry as they are still the ruling stars and no one comes close. Due to that film, several people recognise me. It was a hit there. I want that through this Film Festival, filmmakers once again collaborate with us and make film."  Hema Malini appeared in the 1980 film Alibaba Aur 40 Chor alongside Dharmendra, Zeenat Aman, and Prem Chopra, among others.  The actress tied knot with Dharmendra in 1980. The couple had done several movies together and the duo was loved by everyone on the screen. They have two children, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.  Hema Malini had played small roles in Pandava Vanavasam and Idhu Sathiyam. The latest poster and release date reveal of Fukrey 3 earlier this week became a reason for happiness for the fans of the comedy franchise. The poster had the usual Fukrey stars like Richa Chaddha, Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma and Pankaj Tripathi. However, a major player from the franchise in the form of Ali Fazal was missing from the poster as well as the official press release. Ali has now broken the silence on his absence from the new announcement of the third film in the comedy franchise. The actor is unable to be a part of Fukrey 3 because his dates are clashing with the shoot of Mirzapur 3, the next season of Amazon Prime Video’s gangster show. Co-incidentally, both Fukrey and Mirzapur franchises are produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under their banner Excel Entertainment. Speaking about the absence of his character Zafar from the Fukrey 3 announcement, Ali said in a statement, “So Zafar aayega ya nahi? Sab yahi puch rahe hain baar baar. Making an OTT release, Yami Gautam starrer Lost is all set to exclusively premiere on ZEE5 from 16th February. Presented by Zee Studios and Namah Pictures, Lost is an investigative thriller, inspired by true events. ZEE5, India’s largest homegrown OTT platform, announced the release date of its next direct-to-digital original film, Lost. Kangana Ranaut criticized the working style of Bollywood yesterday for its ‘obsession’ over box office figures on Twitter. The Twitterati felt this was an indirect attack on Pathaan, which was having a phenomenal opening day at the box office. However, hours later, the actress hailed the success of Pathaan and also highlighted that such films should do well at the box office. Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback film Pathaan is expected to earn around Rs 50 crores at the box office on its first day (yesterday). The film has succeeded in pulling large crowds into the cinema halls in such a way that it is expected to break the record of the highest opening for a Bollywood movie. But amidst such scenes, some Right Wing organizations held some protests against Pathaan in parts of Madhya Pradesh yesterday, as reported by NDTV. The film was under fire for the saffron coloured bikini worn by Deepika Padukone in the song ‘Besharam Rang’ as that colour is considered sacred by the Hindus. But the state’s Home Minister Narottam Mishra has said that there is no point in having any protests now as there have been “corrections” made in the film by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certifications). Speaking to a group of reporters, he said, “I believe all rectifications have been made in it (film). The Censor Board has made corrections. Controversial words have been removed. So, I don’t see any point in protesting now.” He also said that those who are still protesting against the movie will be “counselled,” added the same report by NDTV. Mishra, who is a part of the BJP, was one of the first persons to raise objections in Pathaan last month for the colour of the bikini in the said song. He had said then, “The outfits worn (by Deepika Padukone) in the song are objectionable. It is evident that this song has been picturized by polluted minds. Anyways, Deepika ji has been a supporter of the ‘Tukde Tukde’ gang; she attended the JNU protests. The day has arrives as fans were thronging the theatres across the country as early as 6 in the morning to watch Shah Rukh Khan returned to the big screen in a lead role with Pathaan. The anticipation is through the roof, social media pages are buzzing and the fans are stoked to see SRK back in action. Like it was reported earlier, Salman Khan makes a cameo in the movie and it totally leads a roar when two superstars, fondly known as Karan – Arjun of Indian cinema, come together for an action-packed sequence.

Interestingly, not simply his cameo, but Salman Khan's Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’s teaser is also attached to Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan in theatres all across the country. The film is slated to release on Eid 2023 and will be a Zee Studios worldwide release.

Meanwhile, Tiger arrives on screen again in Pathaan which will be followed by Tiger 3 in Diwali 2023. Shah Rukh Khan stars alongside Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. Helmed by Siddharth Anand of War fame, the film has arrived in theatres in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

The day has come as fans are thronging the theatres across the country and worldwide to watch Shah Rukh Khan returned to the big screen in a lead role with Pathaan. The anticipation is through the roof, and social media pages are buzzing. A day before the release, YRF hosted a special screening attended by the lead stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham and director Siddharth Anand.

Shanoo Sharma, the casting director, shared photos with the stars. “Let’s Pathaan it! Let’s Go!!!!!” she wrote.

Lyricist Kumaar, who penned the song ‘Besharam Rang’, took to Instagram to post pictures with the cast and director Siddharth Anand. For the screening, SRK donned a black shirt, denims and unkempt hair. John opted for all-black look. Deepika wore a beige jumper and matching pants.

A Salman Khan Films Production, produced by Salma Khan, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is directed by Farhad Samji. The film stars Salman Khan, Venkatesh Daggubati, Pooja Hegde, Jagapathi Babu, Bhumika Chawla,  Vijender Singh, Abhimanyu Singh, Raghav Juyal, Siddharth Nigam, Jassie Gill, Shehnaaz Gill, Palak Tiwari and Vinali Bhatnagar with all the elements of a Salman Khan film – action, comedy, drama, and romance. The 2023 Oscars are right around the corner. Before that, the nominations are an important milestone. The nominations for the 2023 Oscars are out and three of India’s projects were nominated. ‘Naatu Naatu’ from RRR for Best Original Song, The Elephant Whisperers for Best Documentary Short Film and Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes for Best Documentary Feature Film.

All That Breathes follows the story of two brothers Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad. In one of the world’s most populated cities, two brothers — Nadeem and Saud — devote their lives to the quixotic effort of protecting the black kite, a majestic bird of prey essential to the ecosystem of New Delhi that has been falling from the sky at alarming rates. Amid environmental toxicity and social unrest, the ‘kite brothers’ spend day and night caring for the creatures in their makeshift avian basement hospital.

Director Shaunak Sen explores the connection between the kites and the Muslim brothers who help them return to the skies, offering a mesmerizing chronicle of inter-species coexistence.

On the nomination day, many team members met each other in New Delhi to watch the Oscars 2023 nominations while others including Shaunak Sen who is currently in Los Angeles joined via zoom call. Producer Aman Mann told News18, “It is very hard to describe what we all felt at the moment the nominations came through, the entire journey that film has had is extremely dream-like and we are just happy, relieved and grateful for how well the film has been accepted and appreciated. On behalf of the entire team, I can clearly say that it feels good to think that hopefully, this means that we were able to do justice to the story of our characters.”

The 95th Oscars ceremony, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will take place on March 12.

According to a source close to the development, Salman Khan has an extraordinary screen presence as Tiger in his 15-minute-long action packed extended appearance in Siddharth Anand's Pathaan. "From helicopter, to guns and hand to hand combats - you will see Salman Khan acing the space that he excels in to rescue his friend Shah Rukh Khan from tough times of being trapped by Russian Mafia," a source told Bollywood Hungama.

The two superstars have a dynamic presence in the film leaving the fans asking for more and more of the two. "And that combo will be back soon in a full-fledged film, as a crossover of Tiger and Pathaan is in the making. The idea of Aditya Chopra is to celebrate two of Hindi Cinema's biggest megastars - Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan," the source told us further.

Pathaan is an extension of YRF spy universe that kicked off with Ek Tha Tiger in 2012, followed by Tiger Zinda Hai and War. While it all started with the Salman Khan film, the superstar is now being joined by Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Shah Rukh Khan in this action packed universe, which is undoubtedly the biggest universe of Hindi cinema. Meanwhile, Pathaan has taken an earth-shattering opening at the box office.

After Chanakya was put on the back burner, Ajay Devgn and Neeraj Pandey decided to collaborate on another project. It was announced in October last year without any of the two sharing any details about the genre. Bollywood Hungama has discovered that the film in question is a romantic thriller set in 2 eras.

"Ajay Devgn and Neeraj Pandey's next is set in the late 90s and the present times. It's a romantic thriller, whose story begins in the 1990s and then takes a 20-year leap switching to the present," a source told Bollywood Hungama, adding further that the younger portion is played by Saiee Majrekar and a young actor, whereas the older portion will see Ajay Devgn with Tabu.

It's a one of its kind film for Indian cinema and both Ajay and Neeraj are confident to win over their audience with their thriller. The film begins soon in Lucknow with a start-to-finish schedule. "Ajay Devgn has 25 days of work in the thriller and will complete all of it in one go. He will be shooting with Tabu soon in Lucknow," the source further told us.

The movie was announced for a June 2023 release, but we hear it has now been pushed further to the last quarter of 2023 and a new date will be announced once the shooting is wrapped up. Ajay will next be seen in Bholaa, which is all set for a March 30 release.

Kamlesh Sawant recently rocked the show as Gaitonde in Drishyam 2 (2022). However, many might not be aware that he began his career in Bollywood with Khakee (2004). As Constable Kamlesh Sawant, he made his presence felt and in the pre-climax, he moved viewers with his death scene.

As Khakee completed 19 years on January 23, Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Kamlesh Sawant about his experience and a lot more.

How did you bag Khakee?
My guru is Vijay Khanwilkar. In 1996, DD Sahyadri had passed our serial called Shraddha. This was a time when I assisted and also faced the camera for the first time. I played a villain. Then, I did a few more Marathi serials. We had a theatre group called Addict Mumbai. Its members today are prominent actors and directors. An actor, Sushant Shelar, was a part of it. He’s our senior and I had worked with him. We became friends. Sushant was at that time assisting director Mukul Abhyankar on a TV serial named ‘Gubbare’. One day, Sushant called me and asked me if I’d be interested to do a role of railway police. He informed me that I just have two dialogues. I told him, ‘Ghar pe hi baitha hoon. Tu bolta hai toh aa jaata hoon main’! I did the rehearsals. I remember I shared the screen with Dilip Prabhawalkar ji and Deven Verma ji. I did the scene and Mukul was happy with my shot. Sushant told me to talk to Mukul Abhyankar and tell him that he should offer me a longer role next time. I told him ‘Apne khoon mein aise maangne ki aadat hai hi nahin’ (laughs)!

However, Mukul Abhyankar came forward and said that I have told Sushant several times not to call Marathi theatre artists for such small roles. He then told me, ‘Aapne accha kaam kiya. Agli baar aapko bada role karna padega’. He cast me in ‘Thriller At 10’, in which I played the sub-inspector. I also worked with him in the horror serial ‘Achanak 37 Saal Baad’. Even in this TV show, I played a cop. Shridhar Raghavan had written the show and he liked my work. He also wrote Khakee. He called me one day to Rajkumar Santoshi’s office. He said that he has written a role keeping me in mind. I met Raj ji and he gave me the narration. Woh bahut accha narrate karte hai. Mujhe aisa laga ki main hi hero hoon! I got selected for the part and this is how Khakee became my debut Hindi film. It was my good luck that my first 3 Hindi films all starred Amitabh Bachchan – Khakee, Deewaar – Lets Bring Our Heroes Home (2004) and Family - Ties Of Blood (2006). It was a fun experience. Raj ji and his whole team were quite warm and hard-working.

Could you tell us about the experience in detail?
After my meeting with Raj ji, I met the associate director and I made it clear to them that I don’t know how to ride a two-wheeler, four-wheeler or a horse and neither do I know swimming. He confirmed with Shridhar Raghavan, who assured him that I don’t have any scene where I have to drive. But during the shoot, I was told that I need to ride a van! Action director Tinnu Verma was in full form. He installed a jimmy jib and crane. He excitedly came to me and said, ‘Kamlesh, chalo yeh scene karte hai. Tujhe gaadi chalani hai’. I told him that I do not know driving. He was shocked and said, ‘Kya baat kar raha hai? Marwaayega tu mujhe’! He got so stumped. Then he put a gypsy in front of the van. The gypsy pulled the van forward and I simply pretended to drive (laughs)!

Your death scene on the railway track is very memorable. How was it shot?
We shot it at Apta railway station. One express mail passes from there in the morning and one in the evening. As per the scene, I get shot by Ajay Devgn and I fall down on the track. Just before we shot the scene, an express train passed from the station. We had taken our train on the track next to it to let it pass. Ab mail jaane ke baad aapko pata hai track pe kya kya gir jaata hai. So during the take, I fell down and just next to my nose, there was poop. I was lucky I didn’t fall on it. I was hoping that Raj ji says ‘Cut’ soon as I was not able to bear the stench!

Just a day before this shot, I had malaria and was hospitalized. I had a 104-degree fever. I still went for the shoot as the producer had paid Rs. 2 lakhs for the train. He should not suffer a loss because of me.

How was it working with Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar? Both are known to be punctual…
Oh yes. With Amitabh sir, if the call time is at 7:00 am, he’d come at 6:30 am and he’d be ready at 7 am sharp with his make-up and costumes. I remember during Deewaar – Lets Bring Our Heroes Home, the production team went into a tizzy because his vanity van had not arrived. The van operator was late and on the other hand, Amitabh sir arrived at the location. The production members used to comment, ‘Yeh aadmi itna punctual kaise hai. Thoda 5-10 minute toh late ho jaaye kabhi toh’!

Even Akshay ji comes on time. With him, I have worked in 2 films – Khakee and Family - Ties Of Blood. He would get a ball with him and whenever there was a break, he would start playing. He would always be making fun and cracking jokes. There was D Santosh in our film. Once Akshay called me and told me, ‘Kamlesh, tune aadmi mein kala colour dekha hai, gora colour dekha hai. Tune baingan colour dekha hai?’ I was amused and said ‘Nahin’. He took me to D Santosh and said, ‘Toh isko dekh’!

He also pulled Tusshar’s leg. We were shooting a scene of the hospital. In the film, it was shown as a government hospital and hence, posters in Marathi were put up. One poster read that ‘a newborn baby should only be fed mother’s milk’. It was written in Marathi. Tusshar doesn’t know the language. He looked at the poster and was struggling to read it. Tusshar asked Akshay Kumar ji what was written on the poster. Akshay said the poster mentions that ‘a newborn baby should be fed lassi, and not mother’s milk’. Tusshar felt Akshay is joking. I happened to pass by. I had heard the whole conversation but Tusshar didn’t know about it. He asked me to read. I said that the poster mentions that ‘a newborn should be fed lassi, and not mother’s milk, and that too from Kailash Lassi at Dadar East’! Believe it or not, Tusshar thought Akshay ji and I are telling the truth. He’s very simple. Seedha aadmi hai woh.

Akshay Kumar ji, Tusshar, Atul Kulkarni sir and I used to play memory games on the sets. Like we’d be told to list the names of fruits and so on. I used to be the first one to lose followed by Atul Kulkarni ji. But Akshay and Tusshar would go on till 30-40 rounds. Once, Akshay lost while Tusshar, I remember, lost when both were listing the names of countries. I used to make it only till 10-12 rounds.

Do you have any memories of working with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan?
We didn’t have many scenes together. There was just one scene where she was supposed to sit in the police van. It was her close shot. I was sitting inside as well. I told her, ‘Madam, thoda sambhal ke baithiye’. She said, ‘Aadhi film mein yeh van hai. Yeh kaisi van mili hai. Aap bhi sambhal ke baithiye’. I told her, ’15 din se mein iss van mein shoot kar raha hoon. Iss gaadi ke purze-purze se main vaakif hoon’. In reply, she said something in English. And I don’t understand the language. I understood that I need to leave. Kyunki unka angrezi thoda alag hai, accent ke saath! So, I said ‘Excuse me’ to her. ‘Excuse me’ is one of the few English terms I know. I stepped out of the van and asked the associate director if my shot is there. I was told that I am not required to. I didn’t go back to the van again (laughs)!
