Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus is all set to be released tomorrow and as expected, its producers and distributors have gotten into screen-sharing issues. Avatar: The Way Of Water, which was released last week, is doing exceptionally well and its studio Disney is unwilling to let go of screens, leading to a deadlock between the two parties.

A source from the exhibition sector told Bollywood Hungama, “Most of the multiplexes have opened bookings for Cirkus. But several single-screens, especially the ones with 2k projection, are yet to open plans for next week as both studios are fighting over shows. What has compounded the problem is that several theatres had signed a two-week contract with Disney. So they are bound to play Avatar: The Way Of Water till Thursday, December 29. Thankfully, there is a clause in the contract that based on the Hollywood film’s performance on the weekdays and the drop it faces, exhibitors can accordingly screen Cirkus. But in many cinemas, Avatar: The Way Of Water has held very well.”

The source added, “Moreover, the advance sales of Cirkus are not up to the mark. Hence, theatres are encouraged to continue playing Avatar: The Way Of Water on all shows or most shows daily.”

Another source revealed, “In certain pockets, Avatar: The Way Of Water is not doing that well, especially in 2D cinemas. And not all theatres have signed the contract. Also, Avatar: The Way Of Water is playing only in the 2k screens. The non-2k screens will happily play Cirkus. Nevertheless, there are regions where Cirkus will face a tough time in getting the best shows. The unusually long run time of Avatar: The Way Of Water will also prove to be a challenge while sharing shows.”

This source also stated, “In certain circuits, Cirkus distributors are simply asking for 1 prime time show if theatres are playing three shows of film a day or 2 shows in case the theatres are playing 4 shows a day. Yet, the problem persists. Even if Avatar: The Way Of Water is not doing well, Disney is not relenting and insisting that these cinemas should continue playing their film in prime time shows.”

However, reports are also coming in that both studios have been arm-twisting theatre owners. Mumbai’s iconic theatre Maratha Mandir has scheduled Cirkus for 3:30 PM and 9:30 PM. Executive director of Gaiety-Galaxy and Maratha Mandir Manoj Desai is hoping to play Avatar: The Way Of Water at 6:00 PM.

Manoj Desai told Bollywood Hungama, “Both the distributors of Avatar: The Way Of Water as well as Cirkus are asking for all shows. I can only play 3 shows. Like PVR, I am not in a position to screen films at 12 in the midnight or 6 in the morning.” When asked for his next plan of action, he said, “As of now, I have not opened the booking for the 6:00 PM show. We’ll take a call on Thursday.”

An industry expert remarked, “Disney is simply taking revenge. Last year on Diwali, Reliance didn’t let Eternals get sufficient shows as they grabbed most of the shows for Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi. At that time, the meeting went on till Thursday night. Sooryavanshi then was the hotter film and hence, Reliance had an upper hand. At present, Disney is in a strong position as Avatar: The Way Of Water has passed the weekday test and will also score on the weekends. Cirkus, meanwhile, don’t have strong ticket sales. I won’t be surprised if many exhibitors decide to prioritize Avatar: The Way Of Water. After all, it’s a Disney film and has given so much business to theatres this year through films like Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love And Thunder, Brahmastra, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Also, exhibitors suffered during Sooryavanshi and Eternals row. Kitnon ki Diwali kharab hui thi. However, the ideal scenario should be both studios should healthily divide shows. Let’s hope that better sense prevails.”

Pooja Hegde has established herself in Bollywood in addition to making a name for herself in the Telugu film industry over the past few years. Known for her South Indian blockbusters like Duvvada Jagannadham, Aravinda, Sametha Veera Raghava and others, the diva is all set to star in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming comedy drama film Cirkus.

Ahead of the film’s release, the actress – along with her other co-stars – sat for an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama and shared the crazy experience of shooting a hectic song sequence for Cirkus. When asked about her craziest day on the set, Pooja shared, “I think for me it was the last song of the film because there was this one really long shot.

“It was the longest take,” she added. “You had to have like hit the mark before the camera reaches because there are two Ranveers. And it’s all in one shot and it would be like– we would be waiting, just when the camera pans to us we have to do our step. And if one person messed up, we have to start all over again. It was exhausting for him [Ranveer Singh] especially because he was dancing with both of us [Pooja and Jacqueline]. So, he was almost like in every frame.”

Speaking of Cirkus, Ranveer Singh will be seen in a dual role in this Rohit Shetty directorial. Besides Pooja Hegde, the comedy-drama also includes Varun Sharma, Jacqueline Fernandez, Tiku Talsania, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra and Vrajesh Hirjee in pivotal roles.

Cirkus arrives in theatres on December 23.

Exactly four years ago, on December 21, 2018, Shah Rukh Khan’s last film as a leading actor, Zero, had released in cinemas. Its debacle compelled the superstar to take a break and introspect about what he wanted to do next. He finally signed Pathaan and it’s all set to release a month later. As a result, Shah Rukh has now gradually started promoting the film and fans are happy to see the actor displaying his wit and humour during the campaign. During a promotional shoot, SRK not only raised laughs but also made a significant comment about the YRF (Yash Raj Films) spy universe, of which Pathaan is a part.

“The only thing missing in Pathaan is Hrithik Roshan. Hopefully, we’ll try to get him on board because that’ll make our film wonderful” – Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan appeared on a live show held during the FIFA World Cup 2022 final where he interacted with Sumedh Shinde, known for perfectly imitating celebrities. Sumedh pretended to be Aamir Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Hrithik Roshan and asked questions to Shah Rukh. The superstar funnily replied and pretended as if these actors actually asked him these questions.

Firstly, Sumedh Shinde turned into Aamir Khan and asked, “I do one film every five years. And this time, you’ll be seen back on the big screen. Are you following me?”. Shah Rukh replied, “If I had followed you and your speed, it would have taken me 20 years to do my next film! I am definitely not following you.”

Next, Sumedh, as Nawazuddin Siddiqui, asked, “I eat so much and yet, I am not able to build a toned body. How did you manage to do it in Pathaan?” Shah Rukh flashed his smile on hearing this question and answered, “Nawaz bhai, you mentioned that you eat a lot. Maine kuch nahin khaaya. Tum ulta kar rahe ho. If you eat less, you’ll build a better body and if you exercise, it’ll be even better.”

He added, “But Nawaz bhai, you are so talented that you don’t need to put in so much effort. Aap jaise ho, waise hi bade khoobsurat lagte hai. Mere jaise logon ko yeh sab koshish karni padti hai”

Finally, Sumedh Shinde masqueraded as Hrithik Roshan. He asked, “I just love Pathaan’s trailer. It’s so fantastic. It has action, entertainment…everything. Aur kuch hai usme?”. To which Shah Rukh Khan replied, “Duggu, if you are hearing this, the only thing missing is Hrithik. Hopefully, we’ll try to get him on board because that’ll make our film wonderful.”

Hrithik Roshan was seen as Kabir in War (2019), which also belongs to the YRF spy universe, apart from Tiger (Salman Khan). Salman Khan has a cameo in Pathaan and on SRK’s birthday last month, Bollywood Hungama reported about the theory going around that the ‘buddy’ Kabir mentioned in War might be none other than Pathaan.

Pathaan also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham and it releases on January 25, 2023.

While Ranveer Singh has won accolades for his unconventional roles like Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani, and Khilji in Padmaavat, the actor has also left the audiences impressed with Simmba. So we know that the audiences love him in different avatars and they are equally anticipating the deadly combo of Ranveer and Rohit Shetty on the big screens with Cirkus. On the other hand, the Bollywood star opened up about the kind of films he would like to be a part of. Being a self-proclaimed Govinda fan, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Singh wants to be a part of the actor’s film remakes and it seems the one he has his eye on is Raja Babu, co-starring Karisma Kapoor.

Ranveer Singh opens up about wanting to do Raja Babu remake; says, “I keep telling Varun Dhawan to not do the film”

For the unversed, Raja Babu featured Govinda as an illiterate man, pampered by his mother, who falls in love with the pretty and educated girl played by Karisma Kapoor. The 1994 film gained massive popularity owing to its songs like ‘Mere Dil Na Todo’, ‘Ui Amma Ui Amma’, and ‘Sarkaiye Lo Khatiya’ which turned out to be some of the biggest chartbusters of the era. Now talking about being a part of this Govinda – Karisma Kapoor starrer rom-com Ranveer Singh was quoted saying to Pinkvilla about how he requested his friend and co-actor Varun Dhawan to not be a part of its remake, if he was ever offered one.

Varun Dhawan is known for his impeccable comic timing and his style is often compared to Govinda and Salman Khan. Talking about in these reports, Ranveer Singh said, “Varun Dhawan keeps doing these movies man, and I keep telling him, ‘Kuch Bhi Karna, Raja Babu maat karna’ (I want to do it).” In the same interview, Ranveer Singh confessed that Raja Babu and Judwaa are amongst some of his favourite Bollywood films, which he has seen many times.

Coming to his upcoming film Cirkus, Ranveer Singh will be seen in a dual role in this Rohit Shetty directorial. The film also stars Varun Sharma, Jacqueline Fernandez, Pooja Hegde, Murali Sharma, Johnny Lever, among others and is slated to release on December 23.

Pathaan has been in news ever since the release of its first track ‘Besharam Rang’. The song seems to have sparked a massive outrage over outfit choices and its dance moves. Right-wing groups have been protesting, demanding the boycott of the film and some politicians have even threatened to ban the film in certain states. Now adding to it, an Ayodhya-based seer Paramhans Acharya has issued death threats to the superstar, adding about how he would kill him, if he meets him.

Pathaan Row: Ayodhya-based saint issues death threats to Shah Rukh Khan; says, “Will burn him alive”

In recent reports, it has even been revealed that he addressed superstar Shah Rukh Khan as ‘jihadi’. He reportedly said, "People of our Sanatan Dharma are protesting continuously regarding this. Today we have burnt the poster of Shahrukh Khan. If I get to meet the film Jihadi Shah Rukh Khan, I will burn him alive.” Followed by this, he also added if anybody else shows the courage to do the same, he would fight the legal case for them. The threat did not end here. As per reports, Acharya had gone on threaten theatre owners, asking them not to release the film or they will be burning the theatres down.

Readers would recall that the film Pathaan has been facing massive outrage over Deepika Padukone wearing a saffron-clad bikini that has not gone down well with certain religious groups. While they have raised an objection claiming that their sentiments hurt by this, they also further went on talk about how the gyrating dance moves of the actress and the intense chemistry between her and SRK in the film will be corrupting the youth.

Besides these protests, an FIR too has been lodged against the makers and cast of the song in Mumbai over the same matter.

Coming to Pathaan, the film is an action entertainer with Shah Rukh Khan playing the role of a spy. The film also stars John Abraham as the antagonist and it is slated to release on January 25 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

40 years ago, Disco Dancer (1982) was released and rewrote history. It made Mithun Chakraborty not just a nationwide sensation but a global star and moreover, its box office performance is unparalleled. As this dance musical celebrated its 40th anniversary (on December 10 or December 17; there’s confusion over its original release date), Bollywood Hungama decided to bring to you 24 facts about the film that’ll amaze you about its success and unbelievable impact

40 Years Of Disco Dancer: This Mithun Chakraborty-starrer was the first Rs. 100 crore film of Indian cinema; in terms of ROI, it is as successful as Jai Santoshi Maa and The Kashmir Files

1. Director B Subhash revealed that he had met Mithun Chakraborty, who was upset about the way his career was heading. To cheer him up, the filmmaker told him that he’ll make a film titled Disco Dancerwith him and assured him that it’ll make him a superstar. Needless to say, B Subhash’s words came true.

2. This was a time when B Subhash was shooting for Taqdeer Ka Badshah(1981), also starring Mithun Chakraborty. Subhash’s publicist, Jagdish Aurangabadkar, nudged him to announce the project immediately. In no time, a leading film weekly carried the announcement that B Subhash would be directing Mithun Chakraborty-starrer Disco Dancerand that it’ll also be his first production. B Subhash said, “Excited distributors from all over India wanted to buy the film instantly. And so the musical journey which brought the disco wave to India started.”

3. The ‘Jimmy Jimmy’song is remembered even today and B Subhash revealed that he was not happy with it after the recording. He told music director Bappi Lahiri that the song is not doing justice to the situation in the film. This is when Bappi Lahiri came up with the idea of using a double voice. It involved the artist singing the line separately after which both renditions are blended. “The result blew us away,” said B Subhash.

4. Today, we can’t imagine ‘Yaad Aa Raha Hai Tera Pyaar’in anyone else but Bappi Lahiri’s voice. But originally, Kishore Kumar was supposed to croon the track. However, the day the legendary singer was going to record the song at a studio in Cuffe Parade, the elevator wasn’t working. Since it was not feasible for him to climb up the stairs due to his ill health, Bappi decided to record the scratch version. B Subhash heard it and loved it so much that he decided to retain it. He took Kishore Kumar’s permission for it. Kishore Kumar, too, agreed with the director and gave his nod.

5. During Bappi Lahiri’s demise earlier this year, B Subhash had said, “Till date, whenever my actor friends like Jackie Shroff call me, they never say ‘Hello’, but sing, ‘Yaad Aa Raha Hai’. Such is the magic of Bappi da.”

6. Writer Dr Rahi Masoom Reza was not happy with the title. He suggested that the film be called Qawwal! But B Subhash didn’t change his mind.

7. Then, it was lyricist Anjaan who had reservations. B Subhash revealed, “Anjaan ji complained that he had no idea how someone would become a Disco Dancer and suggested I take another lyricist.” The filmmaker then visited a book shop in Mumbai’s Fort and bought pamphlets of songs from albums across the world. One pamphlet was about Michael Jackson’s mother who said that her talented son could sing before he spoke and dance before he could walk. This motivated Anjaan to write the lines, ‘Yeh log kehte hain, main tab bhi gaata tha, jab bol paata nahin tha; yeh paun mere toh tab bhi thirakte the, jab chalna aata nahin tha’.

8. The dance step at the end of the title song was shot in one take. Mithun Chakraborty went all out and collapsed after B Subhash shouted ‘Cut’. The director then asked for a retake. Mithun, however, didn’t mind, got up and said, ‘Okay Guru ji, let’s do it’!

9. B Subhash, for the title song, wanted a production design similar to the classic English song, ‘Video Killed The Radio Star’. However, he learnt that it’ll cost him around Rs. 6 lakhs. This is when B Subhash came across a small cycle shop with metal rings hanging outside. B Subhash said in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, “They were selling each for Rs 16 and I bought 100 at a discounted price of Rs 14, pasted paper on them and flashed light from behind, making for a colourful set decor that cost me no more than Rs 10,000. The film was all about such innovations since we were working on a shoestring budget.”

10. The part where Mithun Chakraborty is seen dancing to the peppy title track was filmed at Natraj Studio. The scenes of hundreds of junior artists witnessing Mithun’s dance were shot at Filmistan Studio. Mithun reportedly danced on cue and the junior artists got so excited that they also started shaking their legs with Mithun. Years ago, B Subhash spoke about this incident and said, “Pran saab who was shooting for another film at the studio told me that he had never seen such a crowd before as the queue of junior artists spilled onto the road outside.”

11.
Disco Dancer
also featured Rajesh Khanna in his first ever guest appearance. The superstar had agreed as his career was down and out and B Subhash had persuaded the producers of Thodi Si Bewafaii (1980) to cast him and not Sanjeev Kumar. The film was a success and gave his career a much-needed boost. This prompted him to give seven days to shoot for Disco Dancer and as per B Subhash, he didn’t charge any fee.

12. Parvati Khan made her debut as a Hindi playback singer with ‘Jimmy Jimmy Aaja’. Interestingly, she was married to cinematographer Nadeem Khan and her father-in-law was Dr Rahi Masoom Reza, both of who were involved with Disco Dancer. It was a time when she was upset as she was supposed to do a song with music composer Biddu but it fell through. Dr Reza requested B Subhash to let her sing a song. This is how she landed a chance to sing the iconic track.

13. Bappi Lahiri had admitted that recording ‘Jimmy Jimmy Aaja’was a challenge. He admitted that “The song took a long time to record because I introduced disco beats in Indian antara, to come up with an innovative sound. I also experimented with a new singer, Parvati Khan. But see, almost four decades later, people around the world are still playing it as a rare tribute to an Indian composer. I’m overwhelmed and feel proud to be accorded this honour.”

14. B Subhash had confessed that two months before the release of Disco Dancer, a film called Star(1982), starring Kumar Gaurav and Rati Agnihotri, was released and had bombed. Since it was in the same zone as Disco Dancer, many in the industry had doubts that the Mithun Chakraborty-starrer would also not succeed.

15. However, Disco Dancerbecame a huge hit in India, earning Rs. 3.20 crores, which was a huge number for that time and also for its budget.

16. In 1983, a Mumbai-based agency, Sovex Fort, invited B Subhash to screen Disco Dancer at a film festival in Moscow. B Subhash stated, “I was hesitant because it was a modern film with modern music and mostly dark films such as Do Bigha Zamin(1953) have been successful in Russia but Smita Patil convinced me otherwise.” It’s thanks to the talented actress that Disco Dancerwas then able to cross the Rs. 100 crores mark, the first Indian film to do so.

17. In the Soviet Union, Disco Dancer, as per reports, sold 120 million tickets. Forbes states that it grossed Rs. 90 crores in USSR.

18. While the industry looked down upon Disco Dancerbefore its release, they did the same for its Russian run as well. B Subhash said, “Industry colleagues argued that Disco Dancershould not be allowed to be released in Russia as it did not depict Indian culture! I was anxious and went for the first 3 pm show at Mir Theatre with a lot of trepidation. I was overwhelmed when, in the end, Russians were dancing to ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ and besieging me for autographs. I set out to bring disco to India with my first production and ended up creating the world’s eighth wonder.”

19. Besides Russia, Disco Danceralso had a huge run in China. In all, it collected Rs. 100.70 crores worldwide and at that time, it was the biggest hit of Indian cinema of all time, surpassing Mughal-E-Azam(1960), Sholay (1975) etc by a huge margin. If the reports claiming that Disco Dancer was made on a budget of Rs. 2 crores are true, then it means that the film earned 50 times more. In terms of ROI, it’s in the league of films like Jai Santoshi Maa (1975) and the recent The Kashmir Files (2022).

20. WhatsApp’s co-founder, Jan Koum, has admitted that while growing up in Kyiv (modern-day Ukraine), he had seen Disco Danceras many as 20 times.

21. Even today, people from this region continue to dance, perform and discuss Disco Dancer and its songs. Restaurants named ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ can be found in Vladivostok, Russia and Tbilisi, Georgia. In 2019, the ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ restaurant in Tbilisi was inaugurated by Raj Kapoor’s son, Rajeev Kapoor.

22. Recently, the people of China made use of the song ‘Jimmy Jimmy’to protest against the prolonged lockdown. ‘Jimmy Jimmy’sounds similar to the Mandarin term ‘Jie mi, jie mi, which translates into ‘Give me rice, give me rice’. Two Chinese women, dressed in Indian wear, were seen lip syncing to this song on TikTok, holding empty bowls, to indicate how they are deprived of basic food items due to the extreme measures taken by the government of China to contain the Covid-19 pandemic. This video went viral and reminded people that the craze of Disco Dancer refuses to die even after 40 years.

23. Even places like Tajikistan were charmed by Disco Dancer. Bappi Lahiri once stated, “I realized the enduring popularity of the songs ‘Disco Dancer’and ‘Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja’in Tajikistan when I visited the country a few years ago. They refused to let me step off the stage.”

24. In 2020, it came to light that Disco Dancerwas going to be remade as a musical on stage. B Subhash confirmed that he had given the screenplay rights of the film to the music director duo Salim-Sulaiman.

The much-loved film Welcome (2007), starring Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Katrina Kaif, Feroz Khan and Paresh Rawal, completed 15 years on December 21. The laugh-a-minute riot is considered a cult classic today, more so after its memes became famous. As Welcome celebrated its 15th anniversary, Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to producer Firoz Nadiadwala about the film and a lot more.

15 Years Of Welcome EXCLUSIVE: Firoz Nadiadwala reveals how the MADDENING climax was shot: “The entire set was placed on hydraulic suspensions. That’s why we could move the set in a see-saw manner. It was a big CHALLENGE”

How did you get the idea to make Welcome?
We started working on the film in 2005. I got the story and I shared it with Akshay Kumar. He approved it and then I shared it with director Anees Bazmee. He also liked it and came on board after which we started developing the story in detail and writing the screenplay. Then while casting, we approached Nana Patekar ji. For him to give his nod was significant as he had never done something like that before. After Nana ji committed, we got Anil Kapoor and Paresh Rawal as well. Finally, we contacted Mr Feroz Khan for the role of the don. Even he was excited to sign the film. Finally, we cast Katrina Kaif and Mallika Sherawat. This is how the casting of Welcome’s first part was done.

Do you mean to say that all these actors were your first choices?
Yes, fortunately, whoever we contacted, we had a detailed discussion with them. They were convinced of the story, the screenplay, and their respective characters.

Could you tell us about some of the memorable moments during the shoot?
We got stuck in one scene. It is where Nana ji is seated in his yacht and he’s meeting a family to fix Katrina Kaif’s marriage. It was supposed to be a one-day shoot but it took us four days to film. We began shooting on the first day and it started raining. This happened on the second and third days as well. This sequence was shot in Dubai.

Welcome was shot in several foreign locations…
Yes. Nana ji’s house scenes were filmed in the Dubai Grand Hyatt hotel. Some scenes were shot on the royal stud farm. We requested them and they agreed. In fact, the horses seen in the horse shooting sequence belong to the royal family. So we were literally in the royal stables!

More than 80% of the film was shot in Dubai. A couple of songs were shot in South Africa’s Sun City and Cape Town. We were, in fact, the first people to film in Cape Town for Kartoos way back in 1996.

The sequence where Akshay ji is driving the car and his brakes fail was shot on Palm Beach Road, Navi Mumbai. Some scenes were shot here while majorly, it was shot in the UAE.

The climax where the house is about to collapse is maddening and one can’t help but laugh even today. How was it shooting this portion?
The exterior of the house was put up on a rocky road, which goes from Lonavala to Aamby Valley. The interiors were shot on a set in Film City. The entire set was placed on hydraulic suspensions. That’s why we could move the set in a see-saw manner. It was a big challenge though. Action director Ali Abbas Moghul was of big help.

Welcome clashed with Taare Zameen Par. Did that cause any tension with regards to screen sharing?
Not at all. That was Aamir Khan’s debut film as a director. So, it was a very amicable understanding of how to balance both movies in terms of the number of screens. Fortunately, Welcome as well as Taare Zameen Par both did well. That was a different kind of movie compared to ours. We wished each other all the best. It was a very celebrative period!

How did the audience react to the film in cinemas?
Our intent has always been to make a family movie. And that’s how the audience felt too. We could judge by their reactions in cinemas that they were enjoying it, especially Uday and Majnu’s antics. These characters are innocent and also dimwits. But they are still dons and hence, people are scared of them. And in their innocence lies the fun.

How did the critics react?
They loved it! By God’s grace, Welcome was a huge success commercially as well as critically. It was a well-mounted movie with good songs also. It was great fun shooting the film with Nana ji, Akshay, Katrina, Anil, Paresh ji…it was a pleasure working with everybody.

Welcome was followed by Welcome Back (2015)…
In 2013, we got the idea of making the second part. As per the story, the casting was done accordingly. In this film, the place which was shown as Nana ji’s house was the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray hotel, Dubai. It was the same location which was passed on as Anil ji’s mansion in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011). It was a grand place. Now to show Naseer bhai’s house, we had to scale up since Nana ji’s house was quite grand. Hence, we had to search for a grander place. We had to wait for 5-6 months to get permission to shoot at Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. The main cast of Fast & Furious 7 (2015) was staying there at that point but they were not permitted to shoot inside the hotel. Once the permission came through, the UAE government was kind enough to provide us all with kinds of assistance. They permitted us to shoot in the main lobby. They even cordoned off the lobby for us for 4-5 days.

The helicopters seen in the climax belong to the Dubai royal family. The ones seen jumping from the plane and landing in the desert are the real para jumpers from the Dubai Sky Diving (DSD) team. This whole sequence was shot in Margham located an hour away from Dubai. We also filmed in Burj Khalifa. Getting to shoot at these places was a challenge and required a lot of coordination. In terms of the canvas, it was bigger than the first part.

Welcome is huge in the world of memes. Even Majnu’s painting has become a cult image. Your comments?
It’s great. People are loving it and share it regularly. And the way Majnu’s painting is also being used to spread happiness is lovely.

15 years ago, you brought so many prominent actors together in Welcome. Do you think it’s difficult to do so now?
If there’s an understanding between all the team members, be it the technical side or creative side, then it doesn’t matter whether it’s a single-hero film or a multi-starrer. You can take a single hero in a film and it might not be a fun experience. On the other hand, you can cast 4-5 actors and it can be a pleasure to work with them. So, it all depends on the camaraderie with the people. Single-hero doesn’t mean that the journey will be nice and multi-star cast doesn’t mean that the journey will be difficult. People should say ‘Kal shooting pe jaana hai. Maza aayega’. That should be the mood of the unit members.
