Saiyami Kher will soon be seen in R Balki’s Ghoomer, an emotional and inspiring sports drama. Saiyami plays the role of a para-athlete, a cricket prodigy. Although she grew up playing cricket, this role was especially challenging since she had the role of a para-athlete, something she had to work hard to get into character. Siayami says, “I play the role of a left-handed bowler in Ghoomer and, for me, in real life, I am a right-handed player. I could never actually step into the shoes of a real-life para-athlete, but even the small hurdles I had to overcome being an athlete myself, reminded me of things we take for granted. Preparing and filming for Ghoomer opened my eyes in a way that I never thought would happen to go into it. It was a physically and emotionally challenging time, but my struggles were minuscule when compared to those heroes who make our country proud by participating in so many sports as para-athletes”. Ghoomer, which is expected to release in 2023 is a movie about a sports prodigy and also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Angad Bedi and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles. Abhishek plays her coach and Angad Bedi plays her love interest in the movie. Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan has seen unprecedented collections at the box office for a Hindi film. It's broken several records and has surpassed Rs. 1020 crore at the worldwide box office. Actor-producer Arbaaz Khan thinks it is a perfect payback for what the Khan family went through for the past two years. In a recent interview with DNA, Arbaaz Khan said, "And it was perfectly timed. More so for Shah Rukh, for all that he and his family have gone through last two years, I think this was a payback for the poor fellow. It was a very deserving, entertaining film and Shah Rukh was best in it." Speaking of the boycott calls and the threats that Pathaan received before its release, Arbaaz further said, “The audience doesn’t care what’s being written about someone. If you will allow a smooth release, they will come. If you create distress or vandalise theatres, then they won’t risk their lives for it. Filmmaker Karan Johar is back to work. The director will begin the last schedule of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. He is set to shoot a massive song with Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh and has hinted that he is paying homage to his favourite filmmaker of all time. Sharing a video of his team on a flight flying to an unknown location, Karan Johar wrote on Instagram, “Shooting the last schedule of our film #rockyaurranikipremkahani…a film i have directed after 7 years…shooting a song which is a homage to my favourite filmmaker of all times… won’t say any more…” Over a month ago, Bollywood Hungama had reported that Karan Johar will shoot the song as a tribute to his mentor Yash Chopra. For the romantic track, Rishi Kapoor and Sridevi in Chandni are the reference points. In 2021, Bollywood Hungama was the first to reveal the title and cast of the upcoming family-centric movie. Starring Gully Boy pair Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead, the film's cast also includes Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles. Jaya, who has worked with Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Na Ho, plays Ranveer's grandmother whereas Dharmendra and Shabana play Alia's grandparents. Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani has been postponed to July 28. The film was earlier supposed to release on April 28, 2023. Akshay Kumar recently released his two-hero film, Selfiee, co-starring Emraan Hashmi. After the release of the film, the actor is all set to fly to the USA for a five-city show. Titled ‘The Entertainers’, it will be fronted by Akshay Kumar and also comprises Nora Fatehi, Disha Patani, Sonam Bajwa, Stebin Ben, Jasleen Royal, Mouni Roy, Aparshakti Khurana and Zahrah Khan. Unfortunately, one of the shows of ‘The Entertainers’ has been cancelled. As per a statement released by the promoter of the show, Amit Jaitly, the show that was scheduled at Cure Insurance Arena, Trenton, New Jersey on Saturday, March 4 will not take place. Amit Jaitly attributed the cancellation to the 'slow sale of tickets'. He added that the show wasn’t appropriately marketed and that they had 'less than stellar support for marketing from the Tour organizer'. The statement ended with an assurance that those who had booked tickets will be fully refunded. However, the rest of the four shows of 'The Entertainers' will take place as scheduled. Akshay Kumar and the rest of the actors will commence the tour with a performance on Saturday, March 3 in Duluth, Georgia. This will be followed by shows in Allen, Texas on Wednesday, March 8, Kissimmee, Florida on Saturday, March 11 and Oakland, California on Sunday, March 12. The cheapest ticket for ‘The Entertainers’ is available for $59, as per the information given on a booking website. The booking website shows that the tickets are fast filling for the show in Oakland on March 12. As per a report, Nora Fatehi already reached the USA yesterday, on February 26. Akshay Kumar and the rest of the actors, meanwhile, will land in the USA on Tuesday, February 28. A grand rehearsal has taken place in Mumbai. Akshay is expected to dance to his popular tracks and the remix versions of some of his old songs, as per this report. Earlier this week, yet another film of Akshay Kumar hit the theatres. Selfiee, co-starring Emraan Hashmi, is an action comedy that is a remake of the Malayalam film Driving License. While the trailer and the remake of the song, ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ from the film was quite well-received, the film failed to make a mark among the audiences. In a recent interview, the actor, who insisted on giving up his Canadian citizenship for Indian citizenship, also opened up about his recent failures at the box office. The superstar also requested everyone to not blame the audience, further taking up the blame on himself about his films not working. In his interview with Aaj Tak, Akshay Kumar opened up about the performance of his recent theatrical releases, and said, "It is a great alarm, aapki film nahi chal rahi to galti aapki hai (If your films are not working, it is your fault). When your films flop in a row, it is an alarm for you that it is time for you to change. Mai koshish kar raha hun, wahi kar sakta hoon (I am trying to change, that is all I can do).” He continued, “Do not blame the audience or anyone else. It is my fault, 100%. Aapki film na chalna is not because of audience. It is because of what you selected. Maybe you have not given the right ingredients in the film.” Furthermore, the actor also opened up about experiencing a much worse fate in terms of films in the past, wherein he had given 16 consecutive flops. "This is not happening with me for the first time. There was a time when I had eight films in a row that did not work. Now, I have had three-four films in a row that did not work. The thing is that it happens due to your own fault, film ka na chalna (a film not working). The audience has changed, you need to change, you need to dismantle yourself,” he maintained. Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan began his career with a negative character in Daraar. One would question why the brother of one of India's biggest superstar, Salman Khan, and the son of a renowned screenwriter (Salim Khan), would start his career with the role of a villain. Arbaaz stated that there weren't many opportunities for him, so he wanted to get started in show business as soon as possible. Arbaaz Khan told IANS, “The opportunities were very less and there were only a few directors with whom an actor would have wanted to work then. Honestly, I was just waiting to start work.” The actor further said, “At the end of the day, I too had responsibilities, my father had such a terrific body of work, my brother (Salman Khan) was already a big star by then.” “So, it was important for me to take the plunge. In showbiz, you expect your break at the age of 21 or 22 but, once you're in your mid 20s and you haven't started working, there's pressure on you to work, earn and deliver. Suniel Shetty claimed that he first met his son-in-law KL Rahul in 2019 at an airport, where he discovered that they both hail from Mangalore.. Rajkumar said, “There will be 15 ways of how he is going to do this. Before I go on the set, I know what he is going to do. Sometimes I have kept two days for a shoot and he finishes it in two hours.” He also praised him for his command over the language. She shared how her marriage opened a complete different and unexplored aspects in her life. Sharing her thoughts on her beautiful partnership with her husband, she said, “We always had that partnership where we looked after each other and made sure the kids were always looked after and loved. There are times when it is difficult but there are times when we know whatever we are doing in life is for the good and is something we both want.” The actor revealed that she was able to experience many aspects of life after marriage. She said, “After I got married, I lived my life because we went out, we travelled a lot and we did a lot of adventure sports which I never did earlier. It just enriched my life and made me a better person. It also gave me a flight of fancy sometimes.” Sriram Nene also praised Madhuri for being a "supporting spouse" during their marriage. “Having a supportive spouse like this, who loves you and cares about you regardless of what happens, is critical to the journey. Javed Akhtar recently went to a festival in Lahore to honour the author Faiz Ahmed Faiz, where he learned that Indians believe all Pakistanis to be terrorists. In a sharp response, Javed stated that the terrorists of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks continue to roam freely in Pakistan. Since then, he has been at the centre of the debate; while Indian celebrities and politicians are applauding him for the statement, Pakistani celebrities like Ali Zafar have criticised him. Javed reiterated his remarks from the event while speaking at an ABP event. He said, “It became too big, it feels embarrassing, feel like I should not go (for such events). Yaha aya to laga pata nahi third World War jeet ke aya hoon. The people and the media have so many reactions. I was embarrrased aisa kya keh diya? Itni baat to kehni padegi, chup rahein kya?” He further added, “I got to know that people are abusing me there. They are asking, ‘Why was he given visa?’ Is tarah ki baatein, jo thodisi sensitive aur controversial ho… jis mulk mein paida hue, jisme rehte hain aur jisme marenge waha karte rehte hai toh do din wahaa gaye the, wahaan kya darna? Jab yaha nahi darte toh wahaan kya darenge?” He was questioned about how he mustered the confidence to say these things in front of a Pakistani audience. He replied, “I’m sure the youth of Pakistan will embrace you with open arms. I’ll tell you one thing — No country is a monolith. What happens is that we start believing that the policies of their government and establishment is what the country is about. But that’s not true.” He further added, “The fact is that it is very unfortunate that we are unaware that there is a huge segment in Pakistan that wants to have a good relation with India and that is totally understandable, not because they are saints, but because they are seeing a country next door jahaan itna development hai, itni industries hai, jahaan par corportate world itna develop kar gaya, jahaan culture itna hai, jahaan music aur films itni peak pe hai. So, an average citizen of that country would obviously be curious and would want to come here and see and if given an opportunity of a job or a presentation, he’ll run to do it and it totally understandable.” The Faiz Festival was a three-day event, which commenced on February 17 and ended on February 19. Javed believed that it was unfair to expect Indians to disregard the fact that the attackers were living freely in Pakistan after having witnessed the horrors of the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. The much-awaited romcom, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, is less than two weeks away from its release and there's considerable excitement among the audiences. The trailer and songs of this Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer have worked well and trade expects Luv Ranjan’s directorial to have a huge opening at the box office. And if sources are to be believed, the makers are thinking of releasing it sooner than expected. A source said, "Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is scheduled to release on Wednesday, March 8. But the producers are toying with the idea of preponing it and releasing it a day earlier, on Tuesday, March 7.” The source continued, "The second day of Holi falls on March 7. There has been confusion over this aspect. In many places, the Holi holiday will be on March 7. To take advantage of it, the makers felt that it was wise to come on March 7 since that's when it'll get maximum footfalls." The source, however, also added, “A decision will be taken in a few days. If Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar gets ready in time, it’ll be out on Tuesday, March 7. Or else, it’ll arrive in cinemas on March 8, as scheduled.” If Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar releases on March 7, it will enjoy an extended six-day weekend, which is very unusual as filmmakers prefer releasing the day on Thursday or at the most on Wednesday, if not on Friday, to take advantage of a festive holiday. Last year, the Diwali releases - Akshay Kumar starrer Ram Setu and Ajay Devgn-Sidharth Malhotra-Rakul Preet Singh starrer Thank God - also got a release on Tuesday, October 25, as that was the day of the post-Diwali holiday. Actor-director Deepak Tijori gave stellar performances in the blockbuster film Aashiqui. The actor has also worked with top Bollywood actors like Shah Rukh Khan in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and Aamir Khan in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. In a recent interview when Deepak shared his views on the superstars Shah Rukh and Aamir. In an exclusive video interview with Bollywood Hungama, when Deepak was asked who was a better co-star between Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan is, he said, “Actually both were the same because you know both had this unique quality. I had experiences with both of them in regards to similar ways. They are meticulous actors whereas I am a spontaneous guy, so I don’t believe in lot of rehearsals and same I had with Shah (Shah Rukh Khan) and I had with Aamir (Aamir Khan).” To explain his point, he cited an example from the time when he had shot with Shah Rukh Khan for the film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. He said, “(Shah Rukh told Deepak) Deepak let’s do the reading once again or let’s do the scene again. So, I was like boss I’ll do the reading, you do the scene. So, I will just go for the take.” Explaining the kinds of actors Shah Rukh and Aamir were, he said, “There are two kinds of actors. There are actors who get better and better with every take because it is like performing and getting it better; crafting the whole thing and getting it better. So, Aamir and Shah, both are very good in those things.” On the work front, Tijori received fame after Mahesh Bhatt casted him in Aashiqui in 1990. He had produced the 1993 murder mystery Pehla Nasha, which was directed by Gowariker. The movie struggled at the box office after receiving negative reviews upon release. Deepak has contributed to a number of movies, including Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. His will soon feature in Tipppsy and Ittar. As for Shah Rukh Khan, he was recently seen in the blockbuster film Pathaan starring alongside Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. He will be next seen in Jawan and Dunki this year. Yesterday, it was reported that Sanjay Dutt has been cast in Hera Pheri 4. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Sanjay Dutt has indeed signed the film. It is said that he’ll be playing one of the antagonists in the film. His character is blind and is quite quirky. He’s expected to add to the madness quotient of the Hera Pheri series.” The source further said, “Sanjay Dutt is superb in comedy roles and the makers felt he’ll be right for this role. Moreover, his casting will add to the brand value. He’s an exciting addition to the Hera Pheri universe and it’ll be interesting for the audiences to see him locking horns with Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Suniel Shetty) and Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Paresh Rawal). Besides being an actor, he also donned the hat of a director for a bunch of projects. For the unversed, he made his directorial debut with the 2003’s release Oops. In a fun rapid-fire round with Bollywood Hungama, the actor-turned-director briefly spoke about Oops. The news about the third film in the Hera Pheri franchise was out two days back on February 22. A leaked photo of the famous trio from the series – Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal – along with the team were spotted shooting a promo for the movie in a studio in Mumbai. Interestingly, despite it being the third film in the franchise, it is titled Hera Pheri 4. There is a lot of curiosity among the fans to know what the next instalment of the series has in store. It is now learnt that this time, the Hera Pheri trio of Raju, Shyam and Babu bhaiya, played by Akshay, Shetty and Rawal, would travel internationally. Rawal revealed this in a conversation with Mid-Day along with the shooting schedule of the film. “We’ll begin shooting in three months,” he told the publication. “It will be a (long) schedule in Mumbai. The movie will also be shot in international locations like Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Los Angeles, as Babu bhaiya, Raju and Shyam go abroad. They’ll do hera pheri globally.” Rawal was happy to meet his co-stars for the promo shoot recently. “Meeting them felt like ghar wapsi. It’s always a joy shooting with Akshay and Suniel. They are talented actors who are not insecure about their work. We have mutual respect. Our off-screen camaraderie reflects in our on-screen chemistry,” he further told the publication. Earlier, there were reports about Kartik Aaryan replacing Akshay in the third part of Hera Pheri. Reacting on this, Rawal revealed, “As far as I know, initially, both Kartik and Akshay were to do the film, but it didn’t work out. I don’t know what happened.” The first film in the series, titled Hera Pheri, had released in 2000 and it became a cult classic. It was directed by Priyadarshan. Ali Zafar, a Pakistani actor and singer, criticised Javed Akhtar for his remarks about the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks at the Faiz Festival in Lahore last week. Ali had previously taken to social media to share his happiness over singing in front of Akhtar recently. He talked about his love and loyalty for his country in an Instagram story. He also wrote about the impact that Akhtar's insensitive and uncalled for statements can have on so many people's feelings. He took to his Instagram Stories and wrote, “Guys, I love you all and truly value your praise and criticism equally. But I always request one thing – verify facts before reaching any conclusion or judgement. Ayushmann Khurrana has carved a niche for himself in mainstream Hindi cinema with his unusually funny and quirky dramas over the years, including his spectacular debut in the form of Shoojit Sircar’s Vicky Donor in 2012. Similarly, his younger brother Aparshakti Khurana has also succeeded in displaying his talent in films and web-series in the last few years. Although both the siblings are different in terms of their acting skills, they do share a common penchant for humour. Now, the two are all set to display their comic skills as the hosts of this year’s Zee Cine Awards, which will be taking place on February 26 in Mumbai. Ayushmann was recently announced as the host of the show. Now, the news about his brother joining him is just out. Speaking about sharing the stage with his brother, Aparkshakti said in a statement, “It’s always great to work with him. We had previously hosted another show together and that was a riot. When it comes to work, we are aware that it’s a professional commitment and it’s not often we come together. But given our personal background, it definitely adds a layer of charm and fun to the show and I hope we can bring that to the stage. At the end of the day the idea is to make the evening memorable and both of us are going to do our best on that.” Coming to the work front, Aparshakti had two theatrical films last year in the form of Dhoka: Round D Corner and Bhediya with Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. He is also gearing up for Atul Sabharwal’s thriller film Berlin, which also stars Ishwak Singh and Rahul Bose. Readers may be aware that for the past few days, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is in news after his ‘former’ wife Aaliya Siddiqui threw major allegations against his family, including that of house arrest and as well as forcing her and their children to only use selected facilities within their residence. Along with her complaint, she had also alleged that Siddiqui and his family are harassing her for dowry and had moved the court regarding the same. However, as per recent reports, the Mumbai court has dismissed her pleas after their divorce documents were presented. In recent reports, lawyers Adnan Shaikh and Drishti Khurana had alleged that the couple are not married anymore. Presenting evidence to support their argument, the lawyers clarified in their statement that they produced divorce documents of Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Aaliya Siddiqui aka Zainab. Following this, the court dismissed two pleas. In their statement, the lawyers also alleged how the marriage documents were presented to the court but their divorce documents were concealed. Talking about Aaliya Siddiqui, after she claimed that she and her kids were being tortured by Nawaz’s parents in their house, she had taken to social media to post videos of how there were security guards in her residence. In the video, Aaliya aka Zainab had shared how these guards refused her access to basic places like bathroom and toilet as she and her kids, were allegedly, allowed to use only the living room. As for the case, Aaliya had registered the case at Versova police station against Nawazuddin Siddiqui and his family by filing an FIR against them under sections 498A, 509, and others of IPC on the grounds of dowry harassment and protection of women’s rights. This came after Aaliya was allegedly accused of trespassing by Siddqui’s family. Boney Kapoor and Sridevi were one of the most beloved couples of the industry and her demise definitely left the entire Kapoor family in shock. Boney, who often recalls his memories with her, posts about it on social media and today on her fifth death anniversary, the filmmaker took to Instagram to share two video clips from the India Today Woman Summit, which had Sridevi as the Chief Guest. In the video clip, Boney Kapoor is seen in the audience and he was handed over the mic to talk about the Indian actress. During the same, he recalled his first meeting with her. In the video, Boney Kapoor recalled how it was love at first sight for him when he saw her in one of the Tamil films. "It happened the first time I saw her on screen, this was probably in the late 70s, when I saw one of her Tamil films. I said to myself that this is someone I would want to have in my film. We were planning to make a Rishi Kapoor film those days. I had bought the rights for a film.” In the same video, he also added that at that time he was working on Rishi Kapoor film. Although Rishi had not read the script before speaking to the Kapoor actor, Boney took off to Chennai to meet Sridevi in a bid to sign her as the leading lady. However, he added disappointingly that he couldn’t meet her then because she was in Singapore shooting for one of her films, adding, “She was always on my mind.” Later, he went on to talk about how he loved her Hindi film Solva Sawan (a Hindi remake of her Tamil film 16 Vayanthinile) and how it had an impact on him. Brown, Karisma Kapoor's latest show, has already garnered a following at the Berlin Film Festival before it ever airs. It is a dark and gritty investigative thriller. In a recent interview, the actress spoke about her character in Brown. She suffers from alcoholism and has been severely beaten by life. Curiously, because the story is set in Kolkata, Karisma had to learn Bengali for her part. Not only that, but the actress also had to learn how to roll a joint because her character is a chain smoker. In an interview, when Karisma revealed what compelled her to sign up for Brown. She told ETimes, “When I heard the script for Brown I was wowed. The character of Rita Brown is so different, she's so raw and human. The story touches upon certain topics which are not normally danced with or put forth. I remember my first reaction was, 'Should I do this?' After the narration and experiencing the insistence of Abhinay Deo (director) and the entire team of producers at Zee Studios, I decided to take up the challenge of being Rita Brown. It was a wonderful experience.” Karisma’s character in Brown was that of a chain smoker and an alcoholic. Hence, the actress had to learn to roll a joint. When asked whether it was similar to having a culture shock after getting acquainted with her character in the show, she said, “I wouldn't call it a culture shock, but these are definitely not things that I normally do. I was not in my comfort zone in that sense. But then that is what the challenge of being an actor is, right? And you always want to push yourself. I always want to take myself to the next creative level. Being Rita Brown was an extremely interesting experience and I think a creatively satisfying one at that.” She further added that every show demanded a lot of hard work. “Hard work here was to the point of very nuanced hard work, whether it was on the character, locations, on the script level, on every level of making the show,” she said. Brown had got selected for the Berlinale Series Market Select. Karisma Said, “The honour is that Brown is the only Indian show in Series Market Select at Berlin. It feels very humbling and exciting at the same time. The real victory is that all the hard work that we put into the show is getting noticed. And not just here in India, but on an international platform. It's also encouraging to know that our show has brought an all-new perspective to Indian content on a global stage. The kind of themes and topics that the show highlights are different. And the story tells you its fine to deal with all that stuff.” Brown is a dark and gritty investigative thriller. When the actress was asked what makes it so different, she said, “It is not just a regular crime drama. It is also a human drama. It's a show about human emotions. It's about certain topics that we don't bring to light or put forth too often. I think it's an inspirational story. I would call Rita Brown an inspiration to women around the world. You can be beat up, you can go through certain things, but there is always a way out.” Karisma’s character in the series is an Anglo-Indian character who is a cop. When asked how did she react to the character that was offered to her and how was her experience while playing the role, she said, “Yeah, that was very interesting. We did a lot of work to get that side of the character right. I saw a lot of footage, I had to read about it. We had a lot of workshops with Helen aunty and Soni (Razdan) aunty. It was a lot of fun playing an Anglo-Indian character.” Further when she was asked if the show was designed in a way that it would appeal not just Indian audience but to international viewers too, she said, “I don't know. I never thought about that, actually. I never looked at it that way. I don't think it was intentional. I think maybe Abhinay just tweaked the tone of his show in such a way that it has reached an international audience. The idea was always to make something different, a bit out of the ordinary. I don't think we set out to make something that must reach an international audience. It was set out to just be something out of the ordinary.” In the show, Karisma’s character Rita looked jaded. However, she was put in a corner and she had to push through. Comparing Karisma’s character reel life character to her real life, the actress was asked how did she relate to this and whether she could recall a similar situation in her real life where she had to fight back. She said, “That was the most interesting part for me. You don't really see these things with your average Indian female protagonist. Sometimes our characters are made to be superhuman. On the contrary, with Rita we get to see someone who is so beat up and so down and out. I just feel that going through a life journey, you see people, you see things happen in your life and other people's lives. And these are real human emotions that you experience. I think that's what touched me about Rita Brown, that she was so real and raw. Her thought process and her body language is not that of a typical heroine or a typical Indian character. She has not been portrayed as a typical woman. She is totally different.” Brown also stars Helen, KK Raina and Jishu Sen alongside Karisma, Surya Sharma and Soni Razdan and shall be one of the first series to follow a police procedural in an emotionally twistful manner. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway is a special film for Rani Mukerji as this is the first time she has turned singer. A soulful composition in the film has been sung by her and it will be one of the film’s highlights. The song has a mix of Hindi and Bengali lyrics.” This is the first time that Rani Mukerji will be credited as a playback singer in a film. Pakistani actress Sajal Ali is currently busy promoting her first international project, Shekhar Kapur’s cross-cultural British romantic comedy What’s Love Got to Do with It? Starring alongside Emma Thompson, Asim Chaudhry, Shabana Azmi, Jeff Mirza, Alice Orr-Ewing, and Oliver Chris, the film releases in the UK in February followed by March 3rd release in India. Amid the promotions, the actress spoke about working with the late actress Sridevi, who passed away in 2018. Speaking to BBC Asian Network during the UK promotions, Sajal Ali recalled how young she was during the shoot of Mom alongside Sridevi. She said that she had developed a good friendship with Janhvi Kapoor who was yet to debut in movies and that Sridevi was guiding her throughout the process of filming the movie. Interestingly, it was also the first movie she worked on. “It was kind of unbelievable for me, sitting in front of her, acting, giving dialogues and stuff like that. You can simply forget everything after simply looking at her. I think an indication of a good actor is that it is important for them to be a good human too. Sometimes you get intimidated seeing actors and they understand that the other person is kind of scared and intimidated. But, if you know, the first thing a good person, a good actor will do is make the other person comfortable. She was that kind of actor. She had a lot of empathy and kindness towards me.” Recalling the scene where she wears a red dress in Mom, she continued, “I got ready and she said ‘Oh, get some curls done to your hair’. She was acting like a mother to me although she was simply a co-star and if she didn’t say anything, it wouldn’t have made much difference. But, just the fact that she actually cared about how I looked and how I can look better, won my heart completely.” Furthermore, when asked about her equation with Janhvi Kapoor, who accompanied Sridevi to the sets of Mom during the shoots, Sajal Ali said that they had become close. The actors had met each other after several years at Filmfare Middle East 2022 award show and the video of the two of them hugging each other had gone viral. She said, “We met after six years after my mother and her mother passed away. Probably because of our mothers as well, we sort of became quite close. I connect with her and she does the same. We used to keep in touch but obviously, she started her career as well and got busy.” Sajal Ali is busy promoting What’s Love Got To Do With It? The story is set between London and Lahore, love and friendship, tradition and iconoclasm. Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has begun promotions for his upcoming movie Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. The trailer seemed like the actor is back with a lively romantic comedy starring opposite Shraddha Kapoor. With three songs out, the actor is out and about promoting the movie. At an event, a journalist asked Ranbir about the bad phase of Bollywood at the box office. The video sees a journalist asking Ranbir, “Bollywood ka abhi thoda dicey chal raha hai…(Bollywood is currently in a dicey phase).” Quickly interrupting her, Ranbir replied saying, “Kya baat kar rahi hai? Pathaan ki collection dekhi nahi thi? (What are you saying? A while back, there were reports claiming that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi would feature yesteryears diva Rekha. However, the rumours were quickly shot down, with confirmed reports that Rekha would not be featuring in the series. Now, Bollywood Hungama has learnt that though the actress was not too keen on featuring in the series, the filmmaker is continuing his pursuit to feature the actress. Revealing details about the same a well-placed industry source informed Bollywood Hungama, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted Rekha to play a prominent role in Heeramandi. However, the actress was reluctant to feature in the series and talks between the two soon fell apart. However, SLB has not given up the idea of having Rekha feature in Heeramandi. As it stands right now, Bhansali is still in talks with Rekha but this time for a much smaller part.” Ask for details of what Bhansali has planned for the actress and the source continues, “Currently, Bhansali is in talk with Rekha to feature in a special song sequence at least. He is adamant on having Rekha feature in Heeramandi even if it for a small part.” While talks between the two continue, the show itself, will explore the cultural reality of Heeramandi, a dazzling district, through the stories of courtesans and their patrons set against the tumultuous backdrop of the Indian freedom struggle of the 1940s. A mix of love, betrayal, succession, and politics in the kothas (house of courtesans), Heeramandi promises Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s signature style of larger-than-life stories, intricate and soulful characters, and rippling dynamics of a world rife with conflict during a defining time period for India. Bollywood is known for its love stories. But we have also had a lot of films based on love between friends, right from Sholay to Dil Chahta Hai to 3 Idiots. In 2013, a film on the same relation arrived in the form of Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che. Apart from being successful, it also managed to stand apart from other mainstream films on friendship purely because of its rooted storyline and much more realistic approach. Based on author Chetan Bhagat’s book ‘The 3 Mistakes Of My Life’, Kai Po Che saw Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh play three friends growing up in Ahmedabad during the early 2000s and their coming of age through some serious events that took place back then. Amrita Puri led the female cast of the film as she played Sushant’s sister and Rajkummar’s love interest. As Kai Po Che completes 10 years today, the actress looked back at the making of the film in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama. Amrita said that she is proud to be a part of a film that is iconic, still talked about and loved. The actress was relatively new 10 years ago. Her casting happened unplanned as she met Abhishek Kapoor at a party and got talking. “He asked ‘What do you do?’ He didn’t know that I am an actor. Then I told him that I am an actor. So, he thought of me for the role of Vidya Bhatt and asked me to audition,” she said. She auditioned with Mukesh Chhabra and a month or two later she was told that she has bagged the role. Although Kai Po Che has quite a few dramatic twists, it stayed away from melodrama. This was also seen in the subtle performances of the cast. Amrita told us that they achieved this through workshops with Mukesh Chhabra. “We did character development and script reading with Gattu (Kapoor) and the rest of the cast,” she said. “He said that he wanted my character to be cute and sweet but at the same time flirtatious. He said those scenes need to be like kachcha kairi (raw mango). All this really helps you get into your character.” One of the biggest challenges for Amrita was her diction since her character was from Ahmedabad. “I had to work a lot on my diction with a diction coach because I am from Bombay; I am urban and so is my accent. There was some Gujarati (in the dialogues). The pol in Ahmedabad is very old school. It should look like I am from there,” she said. The other challenge was the scorching heat of the summer. In fact, she revealed that Sushant once got a heat stroke and later on, almost everyone faced issues related to the heat. As Amrita played Rajkummar’s love interest, the two had to shoot together on quite a few occasions. “At that time, he (Rajkummar) wasn’t a known name as he was relatively new,” she said. “He was very honest, sincere and hardworking. But he also wants his co-star to shine as an actor. We would work on the scene and dialogues.” She also had a good time shooting with Sushant and Amit. “All of us were quite new back then and very excited. When you are new, you are also naïve and fresh and there is that idealism as well; you haven’t seen the world yet. We got along very well. Each of us wanted to prove ourselves,” she said. Kai Po Che was the Bollywood debut for Sushant Singh Rajput. But he was already popular because of his hit TV show Pavitra Rishta. Apart from playing Amrita’s brother on screen, SSR also played his scooty coach off screen. “I didn’t know how to ride a scooty; I still don’t know much,” said Amrita. “But I had to ride it because girls in Gujarat and Ahmedabad do that. So, Sushant became my scooty coach. We used to ride around Aaram Nagar (in Mumbai). Everyone used to recognize him and run after the scooty. At times, I couldn’t ride properly as they used to surround us to see him. So, we had a lot of fun memories like that.” Looking back at Kai Po Che after a decade Amrita feels emotional. “It’s very nostalgic,” she said. “At that time, we didn’t even know that it will be such a big hit. You don’t realize when you are shooting and that that time won’t come back. Now Sushant is no more, so it’s very sentimental and nostalgic. I always get emotional when I am talking about it. When I think of Kai Po Che, I feel a lot of love for everybody who was involved. All the actors and crew. It was like a family unit.” Talking about her forthcoming projects, Amrita will be seen in the web film Neeyat. Produced by Abundantia Entertainment, it also stars Vidya Balan, Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Neeraj Kabi, Shahana Goswami, among others.
