The actress recently went out to dinner with her friends while sporting a look that belonged on a Maldives beach day. Disha selected a cropped top in the colour orange with a low neckline highlighted with orange lace panels and boning along the length of the top. With south cinema going pan-India, even Hindi film actors are keenly interested to be a part of a project of that scale. In recent times, actors like Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Salman Khan, and more have been featured in special roles in Telugu movies. Varun Dhawan is also one of them who wants to do a movie down south. He joined the roundtable conversation held by Galatta Plus where Karan Johar said that the Bhediya actor was “dying” to work in a south film. He said, “He will go to Hyderabad or Chennai and live there. He is dying… jumping.”

Tamil star Karthi, who was also one of the celebrities to join the roundtable conversation, said, “He (Varun) has already mentioned his interest and work there.”

Varun said, “We released Bhediya in Telugu as Thodelu. It was released by Geetha Arts. Even at the launch, they said you are more like a South Indian hero than a North Indian hero because of your energy level and the kind of films you do. I would love to do it because I have never seen a distinction. I grew up with my father (who) in the morning would show me Tamil and Telugu films.”

He added, “Given the opportunity, I would love to work there. There are brilliant filmmakers who are on my bucket list. I know it will happen. I don’t know how, but I know it will happen. It’s a plan.”

Varun pointed at Dulquer Salmaan, who was also part of the conversation and said, “He is a producer. Maybe, he can give it.” The Sita Ramam actor was laughing as he said, “I can’t afford you.”

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan was most recently seen in Bhediya with Kriti Sanon. The film released in theatres on November 25, 2022. He will next star in Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal with Janhvi Kapoor.

In one of the most horrific incidents, veteran actress Veena Kapoor was allegedly brutally murdered by her son Sachin Kapoor over a property dispute. As per reports, he admitted to the crime and said that the incident took place in a fit of rage as he repeatedly hit her head with a baseball bat. He then threw her dead body into a river in the Raigad district. Mumbai Police has arrested the accused and their house help Chhotu alias Lalukumar Mandal for murder after the interrogation.

A police complaint was filed when the security supervisor of Kalpataru Society in Mumbai reported that the 74-year-old actress had gone missing. During the interrogation, Sachin Kapoor confessed to the murder and said that the heated conversation to get the Rs 12 crore plot led to the killing of his mother.

Veena’s co-star from the TV show Meri Bhabhi, Nilu Kohli wrote on Instagram, “Veenaji you deserved better. I am heartbroken, posting this for you. Kya bolun? Am at a total loss of words. I hope you are finally resting in peace after soo many years of struggle.”

She spoke to TV9 Bharatvarsh and said, “I worked with Veena ji for about five years in Main Bhabhi. After this serial, we also did another serial together. But before Corona, we lost contact and I got busy with my projects. After the death of a person, we remember these things. I still can't believe she is no more with us.”

As per Economic Times, police also said that Veena Kapoor’s elder son lives in the US. They have registered a case against the accused under sections 302, 201 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The investigation is underway.

Veena Kapoor was also known for her performances in movies like Mitter Pyare Nu Haal Mureedan Da Kehna, Dal: The Gang and Bandhan Pheron Ke.

Born a century ago on December 11, the Dadasaheb Phalke laureate and Padma Vibhushan Dilip Kumar remains the only actor who was renamed for the screen by a novelist and not an industry person - B.C. Verma. It was also once revealed that Mohammed Yusuf Khan (his real name) would have preferred the screen names of either Jehangir or Vasudev; reasons unknown! Imagine the credits of his biggest hit, Mughal-E-Azam, as ‘Starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Jehnagir or Vasudev and Madhubala!’

Here are more lesser-known or unknown facts about the Thespian.

From the very beginning, Dilip was different from his colleagues. He maintained a rare exclusivity all through, and while other top heroes enjoyed a very social life, he largely spent his time within the four walls of his home studying the method acting of Stanislavsky, classical and contemporary theater and comparative religious cultures.

The last probably helped him authentically enact a string of Hindu devotional numbers from ‘Insaf ka mandir hai’ in Amar (1954) to ‘Sukh ke sab saathi’ from Gopi (1970) and ‘O Shankar mere’ in Bairaag (1976).

In 1998, the Government of Pakistan conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, their highest civilian honour, on the actor, making Dilip the only Indian to have received it. The house in which he grew up in Peshawar was also declared a national heritage monument in 2014 by the Pakistan government.

Dilip Kumar had three flops – his debut Jwar Bhata in 1944, Prabhat in 1945 and Milan in 1946 – before his first hit, Jugnu (1947), in the same year in which Lata Mangeshkar also made her Hindi debut. Dilip openly expressed doubts about Lata’s vocal prowess in Urdu, stimulating her to achieve perfection in Urdu diction. The two shared a close bond. Not only did she sing in his home production Gunga Jumna but also sang with him in Dilip’s first song as singer, ‘Laagi nahin chhoote Rama’ in Musafir (1957).

Salil Chowdhury composed this song, and later, Dilip entered the recording rooms again for the Karma (1986) chartbuster, ‘Ae sanam tere liye’ under Laxmikant-Pyarelal. In this song, he recited the long introductory and naughty part, while Mohammed Aziz sang the rest of the portions along with Kavita Krishnamurthi.

Unlike his contemporaries Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar never established a production banner. But through his brother Nasir Khan ghost-fronting him, he produced and also wrote the story and screenplay of Gunga Jumna in 1961, besides reportedly ghost-directed a substantial part of it.

The bumper hit spawned an entire film industry in the Bhojpuri dialect of Hindi, and emerged a trendsetter, with Salim Khan admitting to part-inspiration from it for some of his movies. For his performance, Kumar also received the Special Honour Diploma as actor from the Czechoslovak Academy of Arts, Prague.

Dilip later also wrote the story of Leader and the screenplay of his 1976 film, Bairaag, in which he played the triple roles of a father and two sons. After Bairaag, its producers, Mushir-Riaz, announced an ambitious film featuring Dilip with Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor. Vijay Anand was to direct the Salim-Javed script. The script never worked out!

In the 1990s, he announced a directorial (after having reportedly ghost-directed many of his films!), Kalinga, which failed to make it to the finishing line. Recently, there was talk of completing the film, including the reportedly incomplete music score by Kalyanji-Anandji. The film also starred Raj Babbar and Shilpa Shirodkar.

Dilip Kumar also was involved twice in Bengali films – Paari (1966), a success, and Sagina Mahato, which also had the Hindi version, Sagina (1974). Officially produced by restaurateur J.K. Kapur, it was said to be ghost-produced by Dilip himself, and remains the only film in which Kishore Kumar sang playback for him. The Hindi version of Paari titled Anokha Milan, later flopped.

Incidentally, after his first hit, Jugnu, Dilip had five releases in 1948! Between 1959 and 1955, he had 18 more releases, including Devdas (1955). But after that film, a counselor advised Dilip Kumar to stay off tragic roles, which he had mastered, because they were taking a toll on him, and he resorted to a string of light movies. He had thus no release in 1956 and later chose only one or two movies a year till the end of his career.

His last release was Qila (1998) in a dual role – his fourth after Madhumati, Ram Aur Shyam and Dastaan. However, his Aag Ka Darya (1995) remained largely unreleased in India.

Interestingly, Manna Dey and Hemant Kumar were the only top singers who never sang for him. Among the younger singers, it was mainly the Rafi clones – Anwar, Shabbir Kumar and Mohammed Aziz. His last film, Qila, also had Amit Kumar’s voice for him.

Dilip’s most frequent singer was Mohammed Rafi, the most repeated composer was Naushad and the lyricist was Shakeel Badayuni. His most frequent female co-star was Vyjayanthimala, his most repeated male co-star was Anil Kapoor and he did the maximum number of films with filmmakers Nitin Bose, S.U. Sunny, B.R. Chopra and Subhash Ghai.

Dilip Kumar was to co-star with Sadhana in Sunghursh, but it did not work out. Years later, when her husband R.K. Nayyar offered him a film that he turned down, the filmmaker famously cried, “Why do you stand between me and immortality?”

And that remark proves what Dilip Kumar is.

The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan is all set to hit the theatres next year. Though the release of the film is still away, the action entertainer is creating a buzz ever since SRK treated fans with its first teaser on his 57th birthday last month. A few days later, director Siddharth Anand confirmed that before the trailer release, they will drop two singles from the film. And, one of them is announced, which is ‘Besharam Rang’. On Saturday morning, King Khan shared another still from the song to amp up the excitement of fans. He took to his verified social media page and shared a still of ‘Besharam Rang’, featuring Pathaan’s leading lady, Deepika Padukone sporting a yellow bikini.

A source told us, “'Besharam Rang' will be released by Yash Raj Films (YRF) on Monday, December 12. As everyone is aware, it'll feature Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone and is a peppy number which is guaranteed to become the number one party song this festive season.”

Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who recently wrapped up the shooting of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, was seen on the sets of Patna Shukla. Produced by Arbaaz Khan, the film stars Raveena Tandon and Satish Kaushik among others. The actor visited the sets of the film recently and met the cast and crew.

Salman was seen donning an all-black outfit. Satish Kaushik shared the photos on social media and wrote, “It was a great moment of pleasure for the unit of Arbaaz Khan’s film Patna Shukla when superstar Salman Khan dropped in at the shoot to wish everyone for the progress of the film.”

Previously, expressing his excitement for the film, Arbaaz had said, “I guess since it’s a social drama and we have been known for making hardcore masala flicks, everyone is calling to know more about the film. Yes, it’s a social drama but since we as a production house believe in entertaining our audience, the film has (been) written like that. Patna Shukla has all the ingredients that an Indian audience wants to watch.”

Meanwhile, Salman Khan will next be seen in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which will hit the theatres on Eid 2023. The actor has, so far, unveiled several looks from the movie and even a teaser video. The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Venkatesh Daggubati, Jagapathi Babu, Jassie Gill, Siddharth Nigam, Raghav Juyal, Shehnaaz Gill and Palak Tiwari. Salman will also be seen in Tiger 3 which will release on Diwali 2023. Directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Yash Raj Films, the film marks his reunion with Katrina Kaif. The actor has a cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan which arrives in theatres on January 25, 2023. He has another cameo in Riteish Deshmukh’s Marathi directorial debut Ved.

Bollywood has had a bad 2022 with a large number of big films not working at the box office and only a handful of films turning out to be hits. In a recent roundtable conference by Galatta Plus, filmmaker and producer Karan Johar shared his views on where mainstream Bollywood went long over the decades.

According to him, the celebrated writer duo of Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) gave one of the most memorable films in the 1970s but we failed to capitalize on them further. “We, who should be very grateful to Salim saab and Javed saab, let go of that cinema and went to Switzerland,” he said.

Karan was hinting at the romantic films of the 1990s, of which even he was a part. “After Hum Aapke Hain Koun, everyone, including myself, decided to jump on the bandwagon of love and Shah Rukh Khan was created,” he said. “We let go of all our roots from the 70s, and in 2001 when Lagaan was nominated for an Academy Award, we were like, ‘Oh, now we’ll do these kind of films’ right up till the 2010s. My Name is Khan is still a root of Lagaan, in my head, which released alongside Dabangg, which again (changed trends) and people were like, ‘Now let’s start making commercial films again’. That’s the problem, we actually lack the spine and lack the conviction.”

Coming onto the kind of a year Bollywood has had, Karan said that a large chunk of the box office business comes from Mumbai and Delhi but, after the pandemic, the audiences of these two metros aren’t visiting the theatres that consistently. “So, what has been working is only the spectacle films, even if they’re dubbed films,” he added.

On the work front, Karan will be making a comeback as a director next year through Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which will release on April 28, 2023. The film has an ensemble cast of Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.

Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan understands how travelling in Mumbai can be time-consuming and locals are the best options to go anywhere as early as possible. Just a day ago, the actress shared a video on her Instagram where she was travelling by local train in order to save up time.

Taking to social media, she shared a video from a local as she travels back home from the shoot of Ae Watan Mere Watan along with some of her known ones. In the video, she said, "Namastey Darshako, jaise ke aap dekh sakte hai we are on a local train, because at this our traffic drives us insane, therefore we are enduring this back pain but no pain, no gain. Now, we are going to go and get a rickshaw from a random lane. See you soon, darshako!" Later, she was enjoying a rickshaw ride with one of her friends.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is all set for his next directorial Chamkila, based on the life of Amar Singh Chamkila. Back in March 2022, it was reported that the biopic will be headlined by singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh whereas Parineeti Chopra will essay the role of Amarjot Kaur.

As per a report in a media portal, Parineeti Chopra has been busy prepping for the role for the past few months. Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti have done several workshops together. The filming will begin on December 11 and will be shot over a span of two months. There will be breaks in December and January 2023.

For unversed, Amar Singh Chamkila was a songwriter, musician, and composer. Hailing from Punjab, he became popular with the stage name Chamkila and was regarded as one of the best performers Punjab has ever produced. His music was very much influenced by his surroundings. The songs were a commentary on Punjab and its culture. His best-known hits include ‘Takue Te Takua’, and ‘Pehle Lalkare Naal’ among others.

In a tragic turn of events, Chamkila and his wife Amarjot Kaur were brutally assassinated and gunned down along with two members of his band on March 8, 1988. As reported back then, a group of armed youths on motorcycles fired several rounds fatally injuring all of them. No arrests were made at the time and the case has been unsolved to date.

Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh was last seen in the Punjabi film Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne. His last Hindi film was Good Newwz. He is currently on his music tour in India, which he kick-started in Mumbai on December 9.

On the other hand, Parineeti Chopra was last seen in Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai last month. She has also signed the Akshay Kumar-starrer Capsule Gill.

Known for his interesting genre of films, Ranbir Kapoor recently revealed that he would like to retire from the genre of rom-coms. The actor recently attended the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah which also saw his cousin Kareena Kapoor Khan and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan walk the red carpet last week. While the Kapoor boy received a grand welcome owing to his massive fan following, they were left disappointed when the actor maintained that his upcoming film with Shraddha Kapoor, directed by Luv Ranjan might be one of his last in the genre.

Although, many heroes continue to explore the rom-com genre despite their age, Ranbir Kapoor believes that he should retire from this because of his age. During the Red Sea International Film Festival, the actor said, “I don't know it is probably going to be one of the last romantic comedies I do because I am getting older." Further talking about age, he also revealed that he wondered why he didn’t become a father sooner. “I am wondering why did I take so long. My biggest insecurity is that when my children are 20 years old, I will be 60 years old. Will I be able to play football with them? Will I be able to run with them?”

On the other hand, talking about films, the actor also expressed his excitement about doing the Sandeep Reddy Vanga film Animal. He described it as a ‘crime thriller and gangster film’. In the same breath, he also revealed that the film will feature him in a grey character. During the festival, he also asserted that he will be doing more movies from now on.

After last seen in Brahmastra, Ranbir Kapoor was on a paternity break after the birth of his daughter Raha with Alia Bhatt.  The actor has the untitled Luv Ranjan film, the Sandeep Vanga Reddy film Animal with Rashmika Mandanna, in the pipeline.

For anyone growing up in the 90s, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was the epitome of romance. The film which has broken records and still has a matinee show daily at the iconic Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai has been a cinematic benchmark for romance. Guneet Monga earlier this week, took to social media to express how deeply “spoiled” and inspired she was by SRK and his signature romantic style. 

Having found her life partner in Sunny Kapoor, with whom she’s been engaged for a few months, their wedding invite is borrowed with nuances and elements of DDLJ. The invite has iconic elements like the fields, the train, and such elements to reflect the film and it's impact on their love story.

For the unversed, Guneet and Sunny are all set to tie the knot on December 12, and their wedding festivities will start from tomorrow onwards, that is December 10. Guneet had earlier also shared a heartfelt filmi note about her love story while paying tribute to the all-time classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

“Anyone I dated, I ran to my friends to tell them this is it, I found my partner for the rest of my life. Some even indulged me a couple of times but mostly rolled their eyes and wanted to say, ‘Guneet please just take your time.’ I never wanted to take my time, my magical forever started from Day 1. I was ready to commit from Day 1!,” read an excerpt of her letter to her Raj, Sunny Kapoor. 

Concluding her note, the producer added, “As cliche as it sounds, when the time is right, the universe makes it happen. I’ve found my Raj! Bade bade deshon mein chhoti chhoti baatein, hoti rehti hain,” in the caption of her Instagram post.

Shabana Azmi is playing a character based on super-chef philanthropist Vikas Khanna in an untitled film that will release early next year. The film is directed by Vikas Khanna.

Revealing details Vikas Khanna told me, “Shabana plays a failed chef New York and comes back to India to redeem her reputation. It was very challenging to direct Shabana who is unarguably the best living actress today. When I approached her for the role she very frankly told me she couldn’t cook to save her life. I wondered how she could play a chef if she couldn’t cook. She assured me it was easy. It is called acting.”

Masterchef Vikas Khanna’s directorial debut The Last Color last year collected accolades all across the world. Apparently Khanna who is an ardent Shabana fan convinced her to play a chef on condition that he teaches her to cook. They shot the entire film before the lockdown

For the first time ever, Akshay Kumar introduced social media users to lavish and luxurious home in Mumbai. We all have seen bits and pieces of his residence in his and his wife Twinkle Khanna’s posts. But for the first time ever, we got a sneak peek into his living room, the massive lawn at the entrance and a glimpse of the sea-facing backyard. The video posted by the superstar is for introducing his new collection of apparel brand Force IX.

The video kicks off with Akshay Kumar confessing that it is the first time he decided to host an interview inside his house as he always to do it outside his residence. As he introduces audiences about his new venture, the superstar also takes us through the living room which is filled with art, paintings, and even unique sculptures. The video also showcases a beautiful lawn landscape design with ample seating and a massive Ganesha idol can be seen at the entrance. As the actor takes us to his wardrobe in the bedroom, we also get a sneak peek of the sea-facing backyard, where the actor is often seen exercising in the morning.

Coming to his wardrobe, he introduces his apparel brand Force IX as comfort wear which also comprises of casual wear like tees, hoodies, and sweatpants. Just a day ago, we had announced that the first song from the film Pathaan will be releasing on December 12. Now the makers of the Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham starrer has confirmed the same adding that the dance number ‘Besharam Rang’ picturized on the leading man and leading lady will indeed release on the said date.

As revealed by Siddharth earlier, the makers of Pathaan are trying to keep the plot of this action entertainer a secret and have devised a strategy to release the songs of the film before the trailer drops. The first song from the film to release Besharam Rang’, will hit the tube on Monday, December 12. ‘The song is supposedly set to present Deepika Padukone in her hottest best and showcase breath-taking chemistry between her and Shah Rukh Khan. SRK and Deepika are one of the biggest on-screen pairings in the history of Indian cinema given their epic blockbusters Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express and Happy New Year.

Coming to the song, the two shot for the peppy dance number in Spain as leaked photos from the sets of ‘Besharam Rang’ took the internet by storm! The duo shot this massively mounted song in Mallorca and later, headed to Cadiz and Jerez in Spain where they wrapped the schedule on March 27.

Talking about the song release, director Siddharth revealed, “Yes, it is true that the first song of our film is releasing on Monday. It’s called ‘Besharam Rang’ and it will present two of the biggest superstars of our generation Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in their hottest avatar yet.” He added, “For us, this one is the party anthem of the season that people have been waiting for and I’m confident that it will stay a party anthem for many, many years to come. So, I want to tell the fans and audience to patiently wait for the song when it releases on Monday morning! The wait for this one will be worth every second from now!”

Producer Aditya Chopra and director Siddharth Anand are putting in all the effort to make Pathaan one of the biggest ever action spectacle for audiences. The Yash Raj Films’ action extravaganza is a part of Aditya Chopra’s ambitious spy universe. Going by the adrenaline pumping stunts, readers may have understood that Shah Rukh Khan plays a gun-toting spy with a license to kill in the film. Pathaan is set to release on January 25, 2023 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

While son Sunny Deol and grandson Karan Deol planned a havan for the well-being of the Bollywood star, Dharamji’s wife and actress Hema Malini rang in his birthday with a cake cutting ceremony. The yesteryear star and the couple’s daughter Esha Deol took to social media to share photos from the birthday celebrations.

Hema Malini took to Twitter to share a series of photos from the low-key and intimate birthday celebrations of Dharmendra. While there was a mandatory photo with daughters Esha Deol, Ahana Deol, and son-in-law Bharat Takhtani, there were a few other photos of the yesteryear popular Bollywood couple too. After the World premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Asian premiere at the Busan International Film Festival, Applause Entertainment and Nandita Das’ ‘Zwigato’, is set to premiere in India at the 27th International Film Festival of Kerala. The film has been selected as the opening film in the Kaleidoscope section of the festival. The screenings are on the 10th and 13th of December 2022.

Written and directed by Nandita Das, the film features Kapil Sharma, as a food delivery rider who grapples with the world of ratings and algorithms. Shahana Goswami plays his wife, a homemaker, who starts to work to support his income. It is the story of the relentless struggle of life, but not without their shared moments of joy. Set in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the film captures the lives of invisible ‘ordinary’ people that are hidden in plain sight. The film is life-like - bitter-sweet.

The 27th International Film Festival of Kerala takes place from December 9th to 16th at Trivandrum, Kerala.

Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) completed 10 years on November 13. The film is remembered not just for its emotional moments, music and performances by the lead cast (Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma) but also that it was the debut film of actor Sharib Hashmi. On Jab Tak Hai Jaan’s 10th anniversary, the talented and ever-smiling actor spoke exclusively to Bollywood Hungama about his experience of working on Jab Tak Hai Jaan and a lot more.

How did you bag Jab Tak Hai Jaan?
It was a time when I had almost given up hopes of becoming an actor. I had been auditioning for three years. I didn’t get work and hence, I took up a job at UTV Bindaas as AVP Programming since I had a family and a lot of responsibilities. Jitne logon se main udhaar maang sakta tha, main maang chukaa tha. My savings were almost over. That’s why I had to take up a job.

3-4 months after I joined UTV Bindaas, I got a call from Shanoo Sharma, YRF (Yash Raj Films)’s casting director. During my three years of struggling period, I made several attempts to meet her. But it proved futile. And then, one day, she called me. She had seen my short film and hence, and she asked me to audition. There were several rounds. Incidentally, my first audition was conducted by Bhumi Pednekar. It was a wonderful experience. Mujhe toh audition mein bhi bahut mazaa aa raha tha! Later, I got a call that I have not been selected and somebody else has got the part. I was sad though what lessened my pain is that at least, I had a job.

After some days, Akshat Kapil from YRF called me, requesting for another audition. I auditioned and straight away went to my office. In 30 minutes, I got a call informing me that I have bagged the part and that I have to report for the shoot 2 days later! Main hil gaya tha.
I was so scared by my experiences during the struggling phase that I didn’t want to quit my job. During the same time, my other film Filmistaan (2014) also got a producer. The shoot of both films was to happen back to back, starting with Jab Tak Hai Jaan. So, I asked for 45 days' leave. I was ready for unpaid leave. I didn’t want to quit my work but at the same time, I wanted to make good use of the opportunity at hand. But the management told me, ‘Ya tu naukri kar le ya acting kar le’. I realized that I don’t want to work in a place where my passion is not respected. So, I left the job.

There’s a scene in the film where Shah Rukh Khan jumps on you on the bed. How was it to shoot that scene?
It wasn’t choreographed as such. I was told to dance and jump on the bed, which I did. I remember cinematographer Anil Mehta sir saw that and told me, ‘Aaj isko dekh ke Kishore da ki yaad aa gayi’ (smiles). For me, that was a big compliment.

Shah Rukh Khan usually does rehearsals. Did he do it with you as well?
No, he didn’t. I wish he had. I would have got more time to spend with him! On location, he would read the scene. That’s it. At the most, we would rehearse once.

How was it work with Shah Rukh Khan?
He was very chilled out. I really want to work with him more. Lekin mauka hi nahin mil raha. Pata nahin kyun? Woh baatein itni acchi karte hai. He’s such a fine actor and a human being. Unki company kaun nahin chahega (smiles)?

You were directed by a legendary director, Yash Chopra. Tell us about your experience.
It was a dream come true. In fact, yeh ek aisa sapna tha jo maine dekha bhi nahin tha aur woh poora ho gaya (laughs)! I had never imagined in my wildest dreams that I’ll get a chance to work with him. It was an amazing experience. I used to keep observing him. He used to interact with everyone warmly and would take care of everyone. I still remember it clearly. Once, we were shooting in London and it was an off day. He met me in the elevator. He told me, ‘Sharib, mazaa aa raha hai London mein? Ash kar rahe ho ya nahin? Jacket-wacket chahiye toh bata dena’! Woh khaane ke khatarnaak shaukeen the, though due to his age, he had some restrictions.

How did your life change after Jab Tak Hai Jaan?
I couldn’t understand what happened after the release of the film. I was told that industry mein kaam dekh ke kaam mil jaata hai. But I didn’t get it. Many people assumed that I am not based in India! They thought that I was an actor from Pakistan (since I played a Pakistani) or some other country. This is because no one had ever seen me. I didn’t even know that you are supposed to speak to the media and publicize yourself. Most reviews mentioned my performance positively and the audience also liked me. But it didn’t translate into film offers. I did get some TV offers but I was not keen. As for films, I didn’t get a single offer. Things changed only after Filmistaan (2014).
