The makers of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial Animal dropped the film's first teaser last week, igniting the screen with the untamed ferocity of Ranbir Kapoor. It was unveiled on Ranbir's birthday. The film also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Rashmika Mandanna. Bobby's glimpse towards the end went viral on social media.

Following the buzz around the look, Bobby Deol dropped a behind-the-scenes photo of himself sporting his shirtless look. Flaunting his abtastic body, Bobby wrote, "Shoot life keeping me fit. #AnimalKaEnemy #BehindTheScenes #Animal #Grind." He is playing the antagonist in the movie.

Animal is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar’s T-Series, Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios, and Pranay Reddy Vanga’s Bhadrakali Pictures. The film will release on December 1, 2023, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 celebrated its one-year anniversary since its release. This historical drama set in the 10th century is a cinematic adaptation of Kalki’s renowned novel of the same title. The film, curated by Ratnam and his talented team, stood as a visual spectacle. Costume designer Eka Lakhani, who has maintained a decade-long partnership with Mani Ratnam, shared the fascinating journey from initial sketches to the silver screen.

Lakhani and her team, along with historians and experts, did a costume recce at the Thanjavur temple, meticulously studying the dynasty's sculptures. Kalki’s novel and the sketches of Tamil visual artist Maniam served as pivotal reference materials. Mani Ratnam's vision for the film, along with extensive research, laid the foundation for the authentic and distinctive look of each character. Collaborating with jewellery partner Kishandas, the hair and makeup teams then crafted every look with Eka.

Eka shared, “The Chola dynasty represented a golden era of heritage, and this had to reflect through the entire kingdom's attire, not just that of the emperors. It was levels of designing from kings, queens, ministers, guards and so on.”

“Each character had their own distinct style, elements that reflected their personalities. Karthi’s Kans mama costume’s inspiration arose from a traditional Balinese outfit that Mani Sir and Rahman Sir got from a music recce for the film. Of course, the end result was completely different, but the idea of using tasks, beads and layering appliqué craft work was inspired from the sample shown to us.”

Costumes played a pivotal role in visual storytelling, setting the tone of a scene through colours and mood boards. Eka's most challenging and favourite look was the faceoff scene between Aishwarya Rai’s character (Nandini) and Trisha’s character (Kundavai), where both characters dress to outshine each other. The team's challenge was to make both characters and their armies look prominent while ensuring they complemented each other visually. This scene required a costume team of 120-130 people, including costume assistants, drapers, and dressmen. To achieve authenticity, the team meticulously studied the era's trade routes and employed natural dyeing techniques like Kumkum and haldi for the costumes.

Eka also shared how Sobhita Dhulipala would creatively contribute curating her costumes. She had a strong knowledge of textiles and fabrics and was always enthusiastic during look tests. Eka is also the stylist for Karan Johar and Ranveer Singh and worked on their recent project.

Rocky aur Rani ki Prem Kahaani as a designer. Eka and her team also styled all the promotional looks for the cast of Ponniyin Selvan. She continues to be the stylist for Trisha in her subsequent projects and event appearances. Trisha shared her experience, “The first time I met Eka at Madras Talkies' office, I had minimal knowledge about Kundavai's style, aside from past references. Eka had done extensive research and study on each character, and she had a whole book and laptop filled with looks. This was my first time working on a period film, and Eka, along with the hair, makeup, jewellery, and costume teams, made it effortless for me to transform into Kundavai. We did a 100 look tests for Kundavai, which was the most enjoyable part. She and her team had sourced materials for all the costumes from different parts of India. My favourite look, hands down, will be the coronation scene with Kundavai vs. Nandini (Aishwarya Rai). That look was Kundavai personified in every possible way.”

Karthi, one of the leads in the ensembles said, “Designing the costumes for the most iconic characters in PS was no doubt an enormous responsibility but dressing up the cast and entire chola dynasty everyday seemed like prepping for war. Eka, Malini and team handled the job with ease and their smiling faces were the first thing we encountered every morning.”

Eka Lakhani has three distinct releases as a Costume Designer this year, collaborating with renowned creative filmmakers, including Mani Ratnam for Ponniyin Selvan, Karan Johar for Rocky aur Rani ki Prem Kahaani, and Rajkumar Hirani for Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s latest advertisement with the platform Flipkart has landed the latter in trouble with mobile phone retailers. In their latest Hindi advertisement, which is a promotional campaign for the upcoming festive season, the actor is talking about the special mobile phone deals which are not available at the retail stores. The smartphone retailers are alleging that this is misleading the buyers.

The All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA), which represents 150,000 mobile retailers, wrote a long letter to the smartphone brands to address the issue. “Our purpose in addressing you is to express our deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent wave of derogatory advertisements that have been proliferating across various online platforms, social media, and print media. These advertisements have been influencing the buying behaviour of customers through false and misleading statements, such as the one promoted by Flipkart with the endorsement of the mega star, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, stating, 'yeh Dukan per nahin milne wala' (This will not be found in stores),” AIMRA said in the letter, as reported by Economic Times.

The report also stated that the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), which represents 80 million retailers, has written a letter to Amitabh Bachchan condemning the advertisement. “We are highly disheartened to witness your recent advertisement for Flipkart, where you claimed that deals and offers are not available at shopkeepers, thereby misleading and influencing customers,” CAIT said.

Jio Studios and Maddock Films have announced their upcoming film, Sky Force, with Akshay Kumar, set to release on October 2, 2024. October 2nd, which we all know as Gandhi Jayanti is also the birth date of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, and the film is set during his tenure.

Popular Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, considered one of that country's biggest stars and who made her Bollywood debut in the 2017 movie Raees, has tied the knot with her longtime businessman beau Salim Karim on September 30, 2023. The actress was in a relationship with Karim for a little over five years and kept it private. Reports state that the wedding was an intimate affair with families and close friends in attendance.

Taking to Instagram stories on Sunday night, Mahira Khan's manager Anushay Talha Khan shared two videos. One of them was Mahira walking down the aisle. The second one was the bride walking towards the groom who was in tears in the clip. Salim walked towards her to lift her long white veil. This was his first time in Mumbai and he charmed the audience who wouldn't stop cheering at his hilarious jokes! This show took place a day after his Bengaluru show was cancelled. He walked onto the stage and said, “We made it! What a journey it has been!”

The crowd was a mix of all age groups enjoying a comedy show along with some celebrities and popular Mumbaikars. There is a reason this particular show was so well received. In typical Noah style, he joked about everyone. From talking about four Amani family members occupying a building to G20 posters splashed across the city he also addressed real and local problems that affect every Mumbaikar. From getting stuck in Ganpati traffic to the entire city being under construction, the jokes hit a chord with the audience. A comedian being aware of local issues and being well-read is something that charmed the Mumbai crowd.

His show comes at a time when almost anyone cracking a joke can go to an open mic and get instant fame by hurling foul language. The go-to formula for many desi comedians is just the use of one abusive word and that gets them the claps and the clicks. Noah kept his show clean and full of humour. He did not abuse or humiliate anyone in the crowd, which has become a regular sight at local comedy shows. He kept the language clean which impressed a large number of people who had come with families. "His jokes were clean and funny. He was well-prepared for the crowd with relatable jokes. Everyone in the crowd was enjoying the show." said Mumbai jeweller Devang Zaveri.

Another important thing that makes Trevor Noah instantly likeable is his reference to his South African roots. He didn't miss a chance to talk about where he comes from and also didn't hesitate before cracking jokes on politics and state of affairs. If he thinks it is funny, he says it as it is. He also made enough fun of his own show getting cancelled in Bengaluru and joked about people ordering food in Bengaluru traffic, which was the talk of the internet on that day. He did promise that he would like to visit Bengaluru soon.

There definitely is a big audience in India that enjoys good and clean comedy shows that don't get personal or pick an audience member and crack the rest of the jokes about them, almost humiliating them. MS Dhoni The Untold Story featured Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role with Kiara Advani essaying the role of Sakshi Dhoni, the cricketer’s wife. For the unversed, followed by the Uri attacks in 2016, Pakistani actors were banned in India which further led to The All Indian Cine Workers Association announcing a total ban of artists in 2019 post the Pulwama attacks.

The clash of Prabhas-starrer Salaar and Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki on December 22 has sent shockwaves across the industry. The trade and exhibitors got worried since it’s become a norm for distributors to fight tooth and nail over sharing of screens. The exhibitors are also put in a spot as they are often compelled to choose a film out of the two. As a result, theatres across the country have been bracing to tide over this sticky situation on December 22.

But if sources are to be believed, then the exhibitors and trade can heave a sigh of relief. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Salaar will be distributed by Anil Thadani’s AA Films, who are also the distributors of Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, which releases on December 1. There was a worry among the makers of Dunki that AA Films might tell theatres that they would get a chance to play Animal, a very highly awaited film, only if they agreed to screen Salaar over Dunki on December 22. Many distributors in the past have indulged in this practice.”

The source continued, “Hence, senior authorities from Shah Rukh Khan’s company, Red Chillies Entertainment, reached out to the producers of Animal. The Red Chillies officials requested Animal’s producers to make sure that such a situation doesn’t arise where exhibitors are arm-twisted.”

The source added, “The producers of Animal found merit in the request put forward by Red Chillies officials. They assured them that nothing of that sort would happen from their side.”

An industry insider commented, “This shows the maturity of all the players involved. Communication is key in any relationship and it’s heartening that Shah Rukh Khan took the initiative to avoid an ugly battle of screens. And his efforts proved dividends. If all goes well, the  clash between Dunki and Salaar will be a peaceful one, at least with regards to screen sharing.”

Earlier this week, the industry was left stunned as the makers of Salaar decided to release the Prabhas-starrer on December 22 and thereby clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s highly awaited film, Dunki. The action flick was initially scheduled to release on September 28. Now that it got pushed to the Christmas week, it has had an effect on the other releases of the month as well.

Bollywood Hungama has learned that Yodha, which is scheduled to release on December 15, will move to another date. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Yodha is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Karan realized that it’ll be difficult for Yodha to retain screens in the second week once Dunki and Salaar arrive in cinemas. Moreover, it’ll become challenging even for Dunki and Salaar’s distributors since theatres would not want to lose out on Yodha, especially if it does well.”

The source continued, “Karan Johar has a long association with Shah Rukh Khan, which is well known. Also, he’s close to Prabhas as well since KJo presented Baahubali series in Hindi. Hence, out of respect for Shah Rukh Khan and Prabhas, he has decided to bring Yodha on some other date.”

It is not yet clear if Yodha will be postponed to 2024 or whether Karan will prepone it to December 8 or some other date in November. A clearer picture is expected to emerge in a few days.

Yodha stars Sidharth Malhotra, Disha Patani and Raashii Khanna. It is directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha. Incidentally, it was earlier supposed to release on September 15. It was pushed to December 15 again due to Shah Rukh Khan since the superstar’s Jawan took the September 7 slot.

An industry insider commented, “There are murmurs that Dunki might release on Thursday, December 21. If the film is released a day before in the international markets, then ideally it would be released earlier in India as well. In such a scenario, Yodha would have got just 6 days to score before the clash of the biggies.”

Yodha is not the only film that was going to be released on December 15. The Katrina Kaif-Vijay Sethupathi starrer Merry Christmas, too, has booked the December 15 date. It now remains to be seen if the makers of the Sriram Raghavan-directorial also change their date or if they decide to come a week before Dunki and Salaar, as planned.

Lord Curzon Ki Haveli got a grand reception as the closing night film at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival 2024 with a packed house audience giving it a standing ovation at the end. Anshuman Jha & Rasika Dugal had an hour-long Q&A - post the screening - with many audience members calling it the best performance of Rasika Dugal and Arjun Mathur's career. Rasika reacted by saying 'I just had fun while shooting for this character Ira.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who has been busy shooting Dunki, took to social media on Thursday to wish his followers on Eid Milad-un-Nabi, which is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. This was an exciting week for cinegoers as they were treated to the release of promos for several upcoming films. One teaser that stood out was that of Tiger 3. Starring Salman Khan, it is one of the most awaited films not just due to the superstar’s presence and the popularity of the earlier parts, Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). But this is also because it is the next instalment in the YRF Spy Universe. Hrithik Roshan-starrer War (2019) and Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan (2023) are also a part of it. In fact, Salman even played the part of Tiger in Pathaan. The scenes of Salman and SRK together played a huge part in enhancing the film’s collections. And now, Shah Rukh’s Pathaan character will play a key role in Tiger 3, due to which the action entertainer is expected to be yet another blockbuster of 2023.

And now, Bollywood Hungama has learned of an interesting development. Yash Raj Films (YRF) has incorporated the YRF Spy Universe logo in the trailer of the previous films of the franchise. The logo was unveiled to the world on January 7 this year and made its first appearance in the trailer of Pathaan, which was released on January 10. This means that the earlier movies of the universe and their trailers didn’t carry the exciting logo. But now, YRF has smartly updated the trailers of Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai and War with the Spy Universe logo on YouTube.

An industry insider commented, “It’s a wise thing to do. People like revisiting the trailers of these old films, as proved by their ever-increasing views and also comments. When they see the logo in these trailers, the idea will be hammered in them that the characters of Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan and also that of Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone belong to the same world. Moreover, those who just been introduced to these films will be acquainted that there exists a cinematic universe. It just enhances the value of the previous movies.”

An exhibitor agreed, “The YRF Spy Universe logo is a super-hit idea. The moment it was shown in the beginning of Pathaan, there were whistles as viewers knew that they were about to see a film which belongs to a series comprising some of the biggest superstars of the country. Also, it is the only universe of Indian cinema with its own logo and it should be flaunted.”

Coming back to Tiger 3, the Maneesh Sharma-directorial also stars Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi. It will be out on Diwali 2023.

Netflix India secured two International Emmy nominations at the highly coveted 2023 International Emmys. The nominations include Best Performance by an Actress for Shefali Shah who reprised her role as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi aka Madam Sir in Season 2 of the crime-drama, Delhi Crime, and Vir Das' uproarious stand-up special, Vir Das: Landing, in the Comedy category. Meanwhile, Jim Sarbh has secured a coveted International Emmy nomination for his performance in the Sony LIV original series, Rocket Boys.

Delhi Crime Season 1 put India on the map with its historic first-ever win for the country in 2020 for Best Drama Series at the International Emmys. The crime drama has secured a second International Emmy nod this time around in the Best Actress category for the inimitable, Shefali Shah. Vir Das was previously recognized for his 2021 International Emmy nomination for his Netflix special, Vir Das: For India, and made a return with Vir Das: Landing in the Comedy category this year.

Talking about the International Emmy nomination, actress Shefali Shah said, "I can't find the words to describe what I'm feeling. Delhi Crime is such a special project to me. The highly anticipated Animal is already garnering ample attention for its intense action and violent action sequences. The brief teaser of Ranbir Kapoor fighting with goons have already been receiving rave reviews from action lovers and now adding to the same, makers have been unveiling the looks of other interesting characters from this world of gangster war. After the poster of Anil Kapoor as Ranbir’s father, the next character poster which was unveiled was of Bobby Deol – the villain of this underworld.

The poster, which was unveiled on September 26, features Bobby Deol in a well-suited avatar. However, the face is covered with blood splashes and it looks that the antagonist of the gangster world has unleashed the ‘Animal’ within. The very big news about Prabhas’s Salaar clashing with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki has taken the entertainment world by storm. Salaar, which is produced by Hombale Films, was earlier supposed to release on September 28. However, the makers decided to postpone the release and it wasn’t known whether the Prabhas starrer would release this year. But the decision of releasing Salaar along with a biggie like Dunki has come as a jolt.

Interestingly, this will be the second time that a film under the banner of Hombale Films will be clashing with a film not only starring Shah Rukh but also produced by his production house Red Chillies Entertainment. The last time it happened was on December 21, 2018 when Zero had clashed with Hombale Films’ KGF: Chapter 1, which starred Yash in the lead.

The result of the 2018 clash between both the banners was easily won by Hombale Films. KFG: Chapter 1 turned out to be a success while Zero became a box office debacle. It was after this film that SRK decided to take a take a break from films.

But the situation is way different now. During December 2018, SRK was going through a bad patch. However, right now he is in red hot form as his two films of 2023 – Pathaan and Jawan have turned out to become historic blockbusters. Prabhas, on the other hand, has had a series of non-starrers like Saaho, Radhe Shyam and Adipurush.

Fleabag, which gained immense popularity for its groundbreaking approach, featured Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character frequently breaking the fourth wall. However, the 4-floor space, owned by superstar Salman Khan, was vacated by Food Hall some months ago. It has now been replaced by a new chain, Food Square.

Salman Khan bought the property at Linking Road, Santacruz West, Mumbai in 2012 for around Rs. 120 crores with the intention to use it for commercial purposes. It was leased out to Food Hall in July 2017. As per reports, it was Salman Khan’s father who did the paperwork. The reports at that time stated that the deal was signed for Rs. 80 lakhs per month as rent for a period of five years, after which it was going to increase to Rs. 89.60 lakhs per month. Future Group, currently debt-ridden, had also given a deposit of Rs. 2.40 crore to Salman Khan.

Once the five-year period was over, Salman Khan reportedly renewed the agreement with Food Hall for two years, in 2022. As per the conditions in the agreement, the retail giant was to pay him Rs. 89.60 lakhs per month for the first year and Rs. 94.08 lakhs per month in the second year.

Then, news came in March 2023 that Salman Khan wanted to terminate the agreement and seek back the property, supposedly due to non-payment of dues. The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) in April ruled in the star’s favour.

As per a report in The Economic Times, LandCraft Retail, which owns Food Square, will pay a rent of Rs. 1 crore per month to use the prime space. The story also states that just like Food Hall, Food Square has also tied up with Versace for its collection of cutleries, live stations by Entisi Chocolate, and Italian food at Oliveology.

On the work front, Salman Khan is gearing up for the release of Tiger 3, co-starring Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi. It’ll release in cinemas on Diwali this year.

Just 30 days before the film's release, Prashanth Neel and Hombale Films announced that their action-packed thriller, Salaar, starring Prabhas, will not release on September 28 due to VFX issues. The announcement sent shock waves in the industry as the release was delayed after the commencement of advance bookings in some territories. And just days after the news of postponement broke out in the media, Bollywood Hungama has got its hands on some scoop.

According to sources close to the development, Prashanth Neel and co. have silently reunited to reshoot some portions of Salaar, which includes high points of the film's climax. "The idea is to better the product for the biggest cinematic experience. Prashanth Neel wants to outdo his previous work and when he watched the film in one go recently, he felt there was still a lot of scope of improvement. Prashanth is a taskmaster. He got support from his producers, who took the risk of delaying the film and increasing the budget to creatively satisfy the director," revealed a very close source.

The reshoot aspect has been taken positively by all the stakeholders. "Given the money at which film is bought across the market, it's always good to come up with a polished and complete product. When there is scope for improvement, it's always nice to improve. The idea of this short reshoot is to enhance the cinematic experience for the viewers," the source further told us.

That's not all, as according to the source, VFX is also a reason for the delay in Salaar. "Approx. 600 vfx shots are yet to be received by the team of Salaar, and to date, that's pending. Basically, the delay has come for multiple reasons, which include delay in VFX output and some reshoots in the climax," the source shared with us.

A new release date of Salaar will be announced once the VFX shots are received and Prashanth Neel stitches the reshot portions in the final edit.
