Every year has its ups and downs, and 2022 was no different. On the fashion front, though, the ups outweighed the downs and offered us fashion moments that were beyond our wildest dreams. Bollywood celebs had a very hectic 2022, whether it was on the red carpet, at fashion shows or significant celebrity milestones. Only a few of our favourite fashion trends and accessories that made headlines in 2022—and that we want to see in 2023—are presented to you from our collection of most treasured fashion moments.

MINI BAGS
In the realm of fashion, the mini bag has a lengthy history. Women didn't carry a lot, therefore handbags started off little. Let's go ahead to the time when, surprisingly, handbags started to become smaller. The micro bag style as we know it now is mostly attributed to one designer and one particular bag. The micro-bag trend has exploded in popularity this year! Greater mobility is made possible by using a tiny bag; with less to carry, less to worry about. Clutch is more difficult to handle than a little bag. In contrast to clutch, which you must be careful not to put down and walk away from or leave on a table, you can just strap it on and call it a day with mini bag. By limiting their collection of everyday necessities to just a few objects, it encourages people to adopt a minimalist lifestyle. One example is how Disha Patani and Khushi Kapoor, two members of the Gen Z generation, accessorised their outfits with mini-bags from high-end brands.

BARBIECORE TREND
We are certainly not complaining that beautiful pinks are appearing on everything from runways to advertisements. Bollywood has adopted the pink colour scheme this season, from stars to models. Barbiecore culture has swept over the fashion industry this year, and it's all about wearing pink and dressing like a Barbie. Bollywood divas follow the pattern just as closely. Bollywood nailed the Barbiecore trend and left us flabbergasted, from Aishwaria Rai in a chic pink pantsuit by Valentino to Kiara Advani in a blazer dress.

COMBAT BOOTS
It's simple to make the majority of your wardrobe work year-round in the world today. Footwear also tends to be seasonless. There are countless ways to dress combat boots, one of the most adaptable shoe types in fashion, no matter what the weather outside may be like. Given that they are comfortable to walk in while yet being effective, combat boots are still a wise choice when putting together an outfit. These shoes look great with sweatpants, your favourite skirt, and even your ordinary jeans. From Deepika Padukone to Malaika Arora, our favourite Bollywood women who know how to look stylish with combat boots. This season's combat boot trend has been nailed by these females. Follow in their elegant footsteps.

COLOUR BLOCKING TREND
Colour blocking is the practise of combining hues that are on opposing sides of the colour wheel to produce an eye-catching appearance. Even while it may seem scary, if you do it right, it may actually help you come up with some fantastic looks. Colour blocking was popular in the 1960s, the 1980s, and most recently in the late 2010s, but it disappeared a few years ago. We couldn't wait for a comeback since we adore vibrant pops of colour, and it appears that our prayers have been heard. B-fashionistas town's have displayed provocative, colour-blocked outfits this year. Celebrities like Rakul Preet Singh and Ananya Panday attempted the trend and succeeded.

UNDERBUST JEWELLERY
When Priyanka Chopra made her three-year absence from India public, a lot of discussion ensued. Priyanka returned to her own country to promote her haircare business in Mumbai. She showed up in an elegant all-white ensemble to a brand marketing event. Although Priyanka looked great in her cropped top and flared jeans, one of her accessories truly got our attention. We're talking about the underbust gems that Priyanka wore with the blouse and proved to be the season's trendiest accessory. It was designed by Australian designer Christopher Esber, whose under-the-breast gem accent is already a favourite among fashionistas. He has been fashion's silent achiever for the better part of a decade and is set to take centre stage thanks to the ringing endorsements of stars like Zendaya, Dua Lipa, and Solange. Without a doubt, PC made a bold fashion statement with her all-white look, and we will remember the underbust jewels for a very long time. Malaika Arora joined in on the craze. It is already gaining popularity among influencers, and we are confident that it will soon reach the markets.

However, it seems that his wife Priya Runchal has been sharing sneak peeks from their happy married life on social media of late. While she shared photos way back in October during the Diwali season with the Pathaan actor, she shared another set of photos now which seems to be a part of the Christmas festivities at their household.

Priya Runchal took to Instagram to share two photos from their latest family get-together and posted it along with a ‘feeling loved’ emoji. The investment banker, who also had a low-key wedding with John Abraham, posed with the entire family of the actor in this series of photos. The first photo has her posing with John’s mother Firoza Irani, father Abraham John, and brother Alan Abraham. The carousel photo also had John lovingly pose with his wife. Besides the rare family photo, it was also John’s look in a black tee and mustache that seems to have garnered quite a bit of attention. We wonder if the actor is sporting this look for a film!

An Action Hero was released on December 2, 2022 and met with an extremely positive response from the audiences and critics alike. After the release of the film, debutant director Anirudh Iyer checked into a wellness retreat, located in a ‘no-phone zone’. Yet, he took the opportunity to speak exclusively to Bollywood Hungama about his film, his journey and a lot more.

EXCLUSIVE: “Meeting Akshay Kumar directly on the day of the shoot made me even more nervous. But he was such a gentleman. He took me to his van and made me comfortable” – Anirudh Iyer

It’s been four weeks since An Action Hero was released in cinemas. How do you feel?
It feels good. I am quite overwhelmed with the response I have gotten, irrespective of the box office. I received so much love. The industry people have been nice and called me to tell me how much they loved the film. People in general have been all praises. Maybe, you can’t have it all but there’s something good to take from this whole experience.

In mid-December, you revealed in an interview that you are unable to find closure since though everyone has loved An Action Hero, it didn’t get the desired collections. It’s been over 10 days and have you got closure now?
The more I think about it, the more I feel that it’s best to move forward in life. I can take all the good things I have gotten from the release of my film. There are a lot of positives and a lot to learn. I have been told that I should be proud that I made a decent film and that I should be happy about it. Hence, I’d like to move on and make better films in life.

A lot has been spoken about the casting of the lead actors, Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahlawat. Could you tell us about how you cast Gautam Joglekar for the role of the gangster? His track was quite crucial to the narrative…
I have been his huge fan not as an actor but as a person and a director. We last saw him in a Hindi film named Prahaar (1991), starring Nana Patekar. That was a long time ago. We were trying to cast a fresh actor. I was very sure that I didn’t want a known face at that point in the film. When you have a known face or celebrity coming at this point, suddenly you get thrown out of the film. The actor takes over more than the character. Hence, we wanted a wonderful actor but someone who has been away from the limelight. Gautam sir fit the bill as he’s usually away from all the noise. When I met him, I realized that he is meant to be for this character. I met a lot of actors but as soon as I met him, I realized that it was a no-brainer. I was so happy that I got a chance to meet him through the casting agency.

A character in An Action Hero resembled Arnab Goswami and raised a lot of laughs. Has the real Arnab Goswami seen the film?
I don’t know if he has seen (smiles). The character was not particularly about anybody. We wanted to represent a certain idea of the voices we hear in general. So, it wasn’t particularly aimed at a certain person. I know it seems very obvious but it wasn’t our primary idea.

How was it to direct Akshay Kumar?
I wouldn’t lie - I was very nervous. I am a first-time director while he was a veteran actor. It was scary. I didn’t have a chance to meet him before the shoot and had only spoken to him briefly. Meeting him directly on the day of the shoot made me even more nervous. But he was such a gentleman. He took me to his van and made me comfortable. He told me, ‘Let’s read the scene. Let’s just have fun’. He started laughing when we went through the scene and he had such a good time just reading it with me. It made me realize that we overthink a lot of things and make a big mess out of it in our heads. But generally, people are quite good and they are supportive (laughs)! It was one of the best days of my shoot.

You mentioned in an interview that you had a back-up scene ready in case things didn’t work out with Akshay Kumar. What was that scene?
So we thought that if Akshay sir didn’t want to do it in a certain way or if he was uncomfortable, we had more of a simplified version of the same scene ready. But he is such a sport and has such a great sense of humour that he said, ‘I am not even reading the other one. Let’s do this scene’!

How did you become a film director? Is there anybody in your family into films?
Nobody from my family was in films. It was harder to enter. I was raised in Mulund in Mumbai. I come from a humble South Indian family. We were not allowed to become anything else except a doctor or an engineer! While my friends and my sister were fascinated by the film actors, I was fascinated by how films are made. I was 6-7 years old when I once asked my father to open the TV to check what was happening inside! That curiosity kept increasing as I grew. The making of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) used to be aired on DD on Sundays. I watched that and the making of other films and I realized that there are people putting so much effort behind a film. Since then, I have been excited about this stream. Then, I was exposed to films by filmmakers like Mani Ratnam and even international filmmakers. Fortunately, I was based in Mumbai and hence grew up in a cosmopolitan society where there are so many cultural influences in one area. I had a lot of exposure at a young age by watching Gujarati, Marathi and Tamil films. In short, I was always in love with the idea of telling stories through cinema. It never happened overnight.

Since the age of 18, I have been working in films. I would study during the day and I would work at night. I took a lot of extra shoots. I did sound, worked as a gaffer etc. I would take up any work that I was given and also worked on short films and small projects. If there’s one thing I am happy about, it’s that I never stopped. I only worked. I loved it so much that it became an addiction.

Did you work in any film before Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015)?
I worked on Bobby Jasoos (2014), produced by Dia Mirza. I met Dia through Mr P R Balan, Vidya Balan’s father. This was a time when I was doing a lot of corporate films. I got a chance to meet Dia and she was nice enough to involve me in her company. She asked me to make corporate films for Born Free Entertainment. There was some minor logistical issue on the sets of Bobby Jasoos. She sent me on the sets and that’s how I started working in films. Otherwise, I was working on corporate and ad films. Then I met Aanand L Rai sir, who has been a father figure. He’s been with me for 10 years. Thanks to him, I learnt how to run a set, how to talk to people etc. There’s so much that he taught me on-ground. A film school teaches you the academics of filmmaking, which I feel is very, very important. It is the best way to gain confidence in your craft. But if I know on-ground experience, it’s because of Aanand L Rai. He’s the only person who held my hand and brought me to this point. I only have him to thank.

How was it to work with Aanand L Rai?
I saw on the sets that Aanand sir doesn’t stress about filmmaking. He always tells me, ‘You are getting to do what you love and you are getting paid for it. So, if you are going to get stressed about it, you don’t deserve to be here’! He’s always happy and makes people laugh. The only time he stresses is when his food doesn’t come on time (laughs)! He’s crazy about food. He only gets angry if the wrong food shows up. Otherwise, he’s such a calm and happy director. Today, even I am calm and laughing on the sets because I have imbibed it from the person I grew up working with.

EXCLUSIVE: “Meeting Akshay Kumar directly on the day of the shoot made me even more nervous. But he was such a gentleman. He took me to his van and made me comfortable” – Anirudh Iyer

You then worked on the VFX-heavy film Zero (2018), which featured Shah Rukh Khan as a dwarf. It must have been a big learning experience...
It was the ultimate learning experience because, after Zero, Aanand sir told me, ‘You now stop assisting me. Now, there’s nothing more for you to learn’. Zero was a long journey. We shot for 192 days. Every shot had to be filmed six times because of VFX demands. It was a very taxing film for all of us. Zero was a film school in itself. After that, there was nothing much to learn. I had seen all kinds of scales, different kinds of sequences, VFX etc.

It must have been quite hectic for Shah Rukh Khan to shoot Zero
He had to repeat every shot six times. We shot in different layers. When you had to shrink an actor in size, you had to shoot the background and other elements separately. Hence, every shot is filmed multiple times. So, he had to repeat the same thing he did in the okay take and that was crazy. No other actor could do that. He worked like a machine and he was so smooth. You wonder what is left after you learn from someone like him.

Did you also work on any Hollywood project?
Yes. Our film school used to send us as interns and hence, we worked on several films. I had the privilege of working on the sets of a lot of English films.

Tell us about your film school experience.
I studied at MetFilm school in London. I did my cinematography degree there. I feel that no one can teach you how to direct because directing is essentially talking and sharing your vision. You need to understand that on your own. So I decided to go for a course that teaches an actual applied skill. I decided to opt for cinematography as it would help me understand the visual vocabulary of telling a story. So, I am visually very inclined as a director. I believe that if you can show something, don’t say it.

What are your future plans?
Right now, I am sitting in a wellness resort, eating simple food and doing yoga and meditation. I plan to resume work in January 2023 once I am back. I have a bank of stories. I have always had it because when you work as an assistant, you always dream of that big day when you’ll become a director. In the last decade, I have worked on multiple stories and multiple ideas. I have a notebook in which I keep noting down. I have a few stories that I want to tell. I’ll start working on one of those and let’s hope we do well!

Who are the filmmakers that you admire?
I am a very big fan of Mani sir. I have grown up watching his films. I am crazy about the way he tells his stories. There has also been this big Hollywood influence of filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Darren Aronofsky, Quentin Tarantino etc. They are everyone’s film school. As far as our films are concerned, Mani Ratnam is a big influence in my life. And then it was Aanand sir. If Mani sir’s cinema has inspired me, Aanand sir taught me how to be a good director. He has taught me how to be a good person as well as a good director at the same time.

Which are your favourite films?
There are so many of them. I love Iruvar (1997) and many other Mani sir’s films. I also love all of Zoya Akhtar’s films. Lagaan (2001) is such a wonderful film. I can keep watching it again and again. There are many other films that are on my list of all-time favourite films.

For the past one week, media has been abuzz with reports regarding the suicide of Ali Baba Dastaan-E-Kabul actress Tunisha Sharma, which was followed by the arrest of her ex-boyfriend and co-actor Sheezan Khan. After the families of the victim and the accused addressed the media regarding their respective children, many of their co-actors too have spoken about their opinion regarding the issue. The latest one to talk about the matter is Uorfi Javed who posted a long note on social media, a day go, not only addressing the issue but also requesting females to give away their life for anyone.

Tunisha Sharma suicide case: Uorfi Javed says Sheezan Khan might have ‘cheated on her but can’t blame him for her death’

Uorfi Javed took to her social media to share a long note regarding the issue on her Instagram story saying, “My 2 cents on Tunisha’s case, yes he might be wrong, he might have cheated on her but we cannot blame him for her death. You absolutely cannot make someone stay with you who doesn’t want to stay. Girls no one I REPEAT NO ONE is worth giving up your precious life. Sometimes it might just seem like the end of the world but trust me it’s not. Think about the people who love you or just try loving yourself a bit harder. Be your own hero. Please give time some time. Even after suicide the suffering doesn’t end, the ones that are left behind suffer even more.”

The statement comes after the Sharma family claimed that Sheezan Khan had cheated on Tunisha Sharma, which led to her suicide. The actress committed suicide by hanging herself in the makeup van on the sets of the ongoing show Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul which also featured Khan in the male lead. As per statements given to the officials, it seems that the actor had spoken to the late actress fifteen minutes before her demise.

The much-awaited film Cirkus has bombed big time at the box office. For Ranveer Singh, this is his third consecutive flop after ’83 (2021) and Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022). We asked trade experts to discuss this aspect and the way ahead for the highly talented actor.

As Ranveer Singh delivers three back-to-back flops at the box office, trade experts share their views; say, “When a film flops, the hero gets the blame”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan said “He is one of the top actors today and has one of the highest numbers of endorsements. ’83 got acclaim. It came at a time when it couldn’t do well. His performances have always worked, even when the films didn’t. Filmmaking is team work. You can’t bog down an actor after he goes through flops. Also, these actors are too big and 3-4 flops in a row don’t affect them. One hit and he'll be back in the game. Thankfully, he’s working with top directors and banners.”

Film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi agreed and felt that his next film, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, is a promising entertainer that can help him get back into the big league. He said, “It is helmed by Karan Johar, one of the most exciting directors out there. And he’s also a part of Shankar’s next, which seems huge. Right now, we are living in a time when every actor or star is as good or bad as the films that he’s doing. Ajay Devgn delivered Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior (2020) which was the biggest hit of his career at that point. This was followed by flops like Runway 34 (2022) and an extended cameo in Thank God (2022). Then he delivered a blockbuster, Drishyam 2. It’s not like his stardom was eroded between Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior and Drishyam 2. It’s just that the films didn’t work. The same applies to Ranveer Singh. When his films work, he will deliver more Padmaavat’s and Bajirao Mastani’s all over again.”

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh, however, opined, “It would make a dent (to his track record) because when a film flops, the hero gets the blame. Log bolte hai ki ‘hero ki film flop ho gayi’. Even Rohit Shetty is being blamed but Ranveer has delivered 3 flops in a row. All 3 were backed by reputed names like Kabir Khan, Yash Raj Films and Rohit Shetty. It can’t get bigger than Rohit Shetty, that too in the Christmas weekend.”

Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise in Jaipur, remarked, “Ranveer Singh will have to be very careful while picking up his new films. ’83 was not a wrong choice. Any actor would have given his right arm to work in that film. It beautifully and intelligently recreated the 1983 World Cup but commercially, it didn’t work sadly as the youth probably couldn’t relate to these yesteryear cricketers.”

He continued, “Ranveer Singh had a nice time working with Rohit Shetty in Simmba (2018). He also did a cameo in Rohit’s Sooryavanshi (2021). Then when he was offered Cirkus, it seemed like he must have thought that Rohit Shetty jo film laayega, main kar dunga. That’s where he went wrong. He shouldn’t be emotional now in choosing scripts. He’s a good actor and will continue to do good cinema. But since 3 of his films didn’t work, uska career jhatka kha gaya.”

A saree is that one item that has the power to completely change the way you look and can be worn by anyone. But some people really pull off the drape in an outstanding way. Janhvi Kapoor has always caught our attention when it comes to her sense of style, but we've observed that she looks especially lovely when she's donning a saree. The lehengas and saris worn by Janhvi Kapoor come directly from the racks of eminent fashion houses like Manish Malhotra and Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, making her ethnic wardrobe unparalleled. Kapoor is a pro at choosing a distinctive Indian outfit and anchoring it with a provocative blouse. She was pictured wearing a seductive floral Alex Perry dress before turning up in a black body-con dress. The gen z celebrity recently chose a Shikaarbaag sari by Mayankraj Singh, an Indo-French luxury brand, to freshen things up a little.

It is easy to conclude that flowers are a recurrent motif throughout the year. You may use flowers in a variety of ways to stay fashionable and new, whether they are large or little designs, worn by Indian people or modern designers. One ardent supporter is Janhvi Kapoor. The actor frequently favours relying on artistic blossoms using a six-yard staple approach. She was seen wearing a sheer organza drape that was embroidered in classic couture style with three-dimensional flowers made of shell sequins and beaded foliage and finished with a satin band and delicate beaded border. A matching sleeveless ivory halter neck blouse rounded off her look. For Janhvi Kapoor, choosing easy-to-wear ensembles and dressing them up with intricate accessories always works. She chose a set of small pearl-studded earrings to go with this Shikaarbaag drape for maximum effect. Her beauty options for the day were a dewy base, gentle smokey eyes, old rose pink lips, and a side parted locks with romantic curls.

Meanwhile, on work front, Janhvi was last seen in film Mili alongside Sunny Kaushal and Manoj Pahwa. She will be next seen in Bawaal opposite Varun Dhawan and Mr.& Mrs. Mahi alongside Rajkummar Rao.

A while back filmmaker Hansal Mehta had announced that he would soon be directing a film starring Kartik Aaryan. However, months after the announcement there has been no progress on the project at all. In fact, industry buzz claims that the makers have now shifted focus from the venture totally. If that was not enough, the grapevine claims that with Kartik and Hansal both busy with no dates for their joint venture, the film has almost been shelved.

Hansal Mehta directorial starring Kartik Aaryan pushed indefinitely

Revealing details about the delay of the untitled project a well-placed industry source informed Bollywood Hungama exclusively, “Yes, Kartik and Hansal had planned on working together and had announced an untitled venture. However, there have been constant delays with the project, and now it seems like the film has been pushed indefinitely.” Further talking about the delays, the source continues, “Kartik Aaryan has had a stellar 2022, with the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Freddy hitting the mark he has become one of the most sought-after talent today. Besides Katrik already has his hands full with Shehzada and Satyaprem Ki Katha so it is unlikely that he will have time for anything else in the immediate future. Hansal is too busy with Modern Love: Mumbai and has Scam 2023 and a couple of other projects he is working on. So essentially with both director and actor busy the collaboration has been put on hold.”

Though the source refrains from stating that the film has been shelved, he adds, “You cannot say that the film has been shelved since both Kartik and Hansal are still keen on doing the film. They will get to it when both have time and dates. But till then, the film will remain on the back burner.” Echoing a similar thought, a source close to the duo says, “No the film is very much on. It is just that neither has had the time to allocate to the project.”
